Welcome to Xisto This is a fantastic place to be! Ive been to a lot of forums but none like this one. The people here are very friendly and i try to be the same what kind of things are you interested in? graphics? programming? nothing?! lol Im very interested in PHP programming and most of my posts are made in the php forums. ITs also fun to surf the GFX forums and check out the cool stuff the talented members here have created

I cant say i know of any and i very much doubt they exist as windows is massive and a collection of a lot of small programs instead of one or two larger ones like linux. Can i ask why you need a windows one so urgently? If you explain the problem im sure I or (more likely) someone else will know a solution. IF you simply need access to a hard drive (eg your OS is corrupt and wont start but you need to get files from the hard drive) then a linux disk will do the trick. Let us know the problem and someone will help out

I shall add the security then. Already got a script for that :wacko:and as for writing to a different file it shouldn't be anything difficult. I shall write a variable into the php code and add comments to show you what to change and show how it should be written and that way you can change the directory yourself to any folder you want. And if you're going to have the php file in a directory like "/editor" or something then you can use the cpanel directory protection tool to add a password t that folder so that only you can access it. *gets to work* Ill post back once ive sorted out the login thing and changing the folder[hr=noshade]The security has been added, remember its probably not 100% fool proof but if you do put this into a folder of its own you can definately use the cpanel/htaccess methods of securing that folder. Inside the check.php and login.php files is a bit with a big line of "/////"'s in those lines is instructions for how to change the username and password used to login. You have to change both values in both files for it to work properly. Also in the file_edit.php file is another similar block of slashes with instructions about how to change the directory. Its a little messy and complicated so ill explain again here.Basically if you put these files (and they need to go into the same folder together) into a folder like var/www/file_edit/ and you want to create files in the folder var/www then the $var_directry value you will need is "..//" Note there are two slashes on the end instead of one. This is because php will automatically remove one slash so putting two makes sure that a slash is left. In any directory containing a slash eg www/files/" or any other folder you will need to add an extra slash so it would be something like "..//files//" I hope that makes sense. Well ive got the scripts finished now. Its three files, one is the php file which is used to take the input (filename and its contents) and save them. It also checks to see if a file exists already with that filename and wont let you save over it so you wont accidentally delete files! And there are two HTML files, one is the top half of the html code and one is the bottom half. Its obvious which is which from the filenames! They are included by the php script and added to the content you input in the form and the whole lot is saved. This way if you even need to change the top or bottom of the HTML code its much easier to do by editing the relevant HTML page Ive added the scripts in a ZIP as an attachment, i can post them as code if you'd prefer but i thought its easier this way. And like i said in te above post if you want i can add a little security and you will need to chmod the directory to 777. If you have any problems let me know and if possible ill sort it out

Hey thanks guys, its much better today, went to bed early last night so feeling mkuch better Still at college at the moment though, fun! should be home in a couple hours though.AD you will need to set the permissions of the directory in which this file will be made to be 777, if you use the cpanel its easy as clicking the directory and changing the numbers to all 7's or clicking all the check boxes, otherwise the script wont be allowed to make any new files as was the case with what truefusion said. Royal pain in the.. that error. Well my lesson is about to start so the next post i make should hopefully be the code *EDIT*AD do you plan on having security on this file? Unless its going into a protected directory or something any old user could find this script and write files to your server to do all manner of things. If you've got security planned and ready then fair enough, if not i can add a simple login page which i wont guarantee is 100% secure but its better than nothing! Let me know if you want me to include it, it will only be another script used to check for a session and then either forward you to the page im currently making or, if not logged in, will ask you to log in.

By this do you mean that i would put the scandir outside the loop and then use the variable $file as the loop condition and reading of the array based on the number of times the loop has run? Eg first time it would read the ) array, then the 1st, 2nd etc....? If so i think ive tried that but ill try it again in the morning (i cant concentrate now so it means its time i got some sleep!) And also the list will be clickable once ive got it to display the files/directories, that wont be a problem once ive got it to not be so infinite!

Hi all ive got a small and simple (for the moment atleast )file and directory listing script in php as follows $dir = ".";$num = 0;$file = scandir($dir);while($file = scandir($dir)){ echo $file[$num]; echo "<BR>"; $num = $num + 1; };the concept is simple enough, the directory to start with is the current one, so scan this directory and while we have a result do a loop to echo the file/directories found, incriment the array number by one so we get the next file and not the same one. But it seems to go on for infinity, and perhaps beyond! I think the problem is that it keeps incrementing the variable $num and then it prints out the array $file[$num] even though the value is empty. So i think the solution is how do i check how many files/directories are in the path i want to scan? And if thats not the problem then what is the problem? and how do i fix it? Other than that the script works Its a start! Thanks

Ive done two small free scripts involving an online file editor and a form like the Xisto hosting application form, they went fine though it was only one php file Trouble is when im doing projects for myself i dont know what to do! Im thinking of writing a small CMS mainly because im bored and then i can use it on my own site as the mini one i wrote is abit lame lolThanks for the advice, i finish college this year so ill have loads of free time after exams and i might try to get a few jobs in to get me a little bit of experience and money maybe before i start uni. Hi, jlhaslip's advice sounds good, i have a friend a bit like that and it annoys me that he thinks of girls like that, just for their body etc. Some guys are like that though, its just how things are and it shouldnt be that way but it is. As jlhaslip said ignore him, hes just immature. If you want to find a guy who likes you for your personality then make sure you give a guy the chance to know your personality. If a guy cant see your personality as well as your looks then he isnt worth your time really. Dont get downbeat that you havent found the right one yet just keep looking, you'll find him soon

Well if i get diagnosed with a terminal illness ill buy a boat and find out, and if i should survive i shall report my findings here! Im not reaally sure what it could be, but one very good theory of how boats sink there is to do with gas bubbles being released by the ocean floor and reducing the density of the water so it cant bear the weight of a ship or boat...great theory for boats but what about planes? It could be magnetism of the earch or something causing boats and plans to be sucked down, but where is the wreckage? they must have looked at the ocean floor by now, and if they havent then this theory is good! Atleast untill they do search it and find nothing!And for all the conspiracy theorists maybe the government has a second "area 51" underwater? Or maybe its the lost city of atlantis affecting something. Just ideas! But technically all are possible!

Hi allIve been using php for a little while now and i feel confident enough to try out some freelance work. But i have a few problems...i dont know how good i am, does that make sense? I feel that if i took on a project, even a small one i might not be able to follow it through as i might find problems. For example one project i am looking at is to add fields into a form and database and then output them on a profile page and allow the user t edit the details. Ive messed with things like this before and all it involves is adding some extra fields onto pre-exsiting pages and database. But i feel the pressure of working for someone else because at the moment im a student at college, have no "education" in php/sql/HTML only things ive taught myself so i have no proof i can do it and i doubt myself as i dont know my level of coding if that makes sense. And the student thing is annoying too as it means i have only evenings and weekends for the php work and if i have hmework or coursework i have less time for the freelancing and i dont want to hold up a project and dissapoint someone! And ive no experience in freelancing but i guess that will be gained. And where can i find freelance work? ive registered on phpfreaks and php-freelancers but most of the projects ask for qualifications etc...and are in america meaning i loose cash due to the exchange rates ! any advice greatly appreciated!

It also depends what software you might be using. Some software such as forums do contain errors in their early days allowing a "hacker" to gain access to things they should etc...so always take avaliable updates and so dome searching to look for vulnerabilities in the coding. That can hel you avoid deathtrap software!Also if writing your own code get someone to check it if possible and remember basic security like being careful with variables (eg register_globals in php and SQL query strings and try not to use javascript for anything high on security like logins as its all veiwable in javascript and much easier to crack. Try using server side languages such as php or asp. And remember anything you write in html, javascript, even VB in your html files can easilly be ready by anyone by veiwing the source of the page! And dont ever trust user input, validate it and check it using atleast two different methods to make sure its safe for your website to use. Especially strip html tags from input and slashes also. I think keeping an eye on your site by veiwing access logs and looking at it from a users veiw can help to see changes you havent made yourself and stop a hack being harmfull.and definately keep backups of all files and databases on your website for damage control! and if a hack does occur change all passwords related to the site and if its easy to do change any scrits you can to use a slightly different validation method etc.. to stop them next time!

As crazyrob said its silly kids aka script kiddies who know nothing of actual programming or real hacking, they simply scan the web for vulnerable things like the old SMF systems for example then keep looking and asking until someone will tell them how to do damage and follow the instructions. Im not personally worried by them as they failed at my site but Absolute has a good point, if you do get affected by them particularly if you loose money due to the defacement its worth trying to get at least the losses back. The problem being no-one knows who these kiddies are. Possible the security websites where they post their latest defacements. If those security companies would be prepared to hand over the IP's to authorities the little group might have a problem. Though i suspect they will be behind a chain of proxies, if not they really are stupid

Yeh the story line was much more different and actually for a change it had a story line with some (limited but good) character profiling of the father character and his wife and their relations and also of amanda which was good. And i must say i didnt expect the ending as it happened, i was expecting something more positive but it was a great twist along with many of the task to be completed. Very gruesome which i like although near the beginning i was thinking "what the?!?! ew ew ew!" but i still loved every minute!shame it all appears to be over though. But i expect one more film as a sort of spin off along the lines of someone like me thinking the man is a legend and then replicating some of his games. Would be good to see i think! It does make you wonder though what goes through the minds of the writers of these films?! they must be mad! I would absolutely love to see the saw films being made, to see the film itself and its terror and gore and hatred then to see the cast laughing at mistakes and the second the director says cut the entire crew would probably smile in contrast to the fear they show during the film. Would be great to see!

Id also like to quote this and ask that even though satan as believed is not "human" if he succeeds in hiding evil from the world then he is rather intelligent. I dont believe in heaven and hell for heaven and hell are different for every single person. Also what if you are madly in love with someone who also loves you too, and you die, then you go to "heaven" yet without that person "heaven" feels like hell...so there cant be a heaven or a hell for anything you experience (and at the risk of quoting an excellent film) is simply the interpretation of impulses from your nerves. And in the case we do have a soul, and i think we do, anything you experienced must be processed and then the label of good or bad will be applied. It all comes down to the illusions created by the mind. Heaven is only heaven if you believe it to be. That is related to the topic because it also implies that evil is only there if you believe it to be. I think that almost all humans are in fact evil. due to our destruction of our planet and its wildlife etc etc etc.. so if there is a satan trying to hide evil he needs to get into gear and do a better job of it. I don't think any of the things first stated are bad at all, sex before marriage seems fair to me because in my opinion you dont need to be married to love someone, and though i think that to have sex you should love that person as it is a special connection you dont need to be married. Masturbation is in fact (for men at least) a natural way of keeping fresh healthy sperm ready to breed and therefore more likely to create a baby. I think the reason some believed it to be a sin is because it could be seen as killing thousands of potential babies. Judging others is how the human race works, without judging others we couldnt make friends, talk, in fact we couldnt live. Humans have a horrible problem that we must judge and label everything and everyone otherwise we feel very uncomfortable. For example walking along the street you see a man dribbling making faces at people and running up to people screaming, it would cause you discomfort but you would feel more comfortable by telling yourself he is mentally troubled and needs help. Its just how we we are! Betrayal yes, is bad in my opinion I agree with JasperIk that by evil i mean something that would adversely affect another, unless of course they deserve such things which is another can of worms!

Thankie you I do like it, although it doesn't ring true at this moment in time, a dream is simply that, a dream. Though looking back over my own work i must say i do like the contrast between the coldness of the environment and the warmth of the love. Didnt even notice that until now! But then im bound to say i like it for i wrote it!

Hi allI just got in from seeing Saw 3 the film and i thought it was fantastic . Not as good as the first two because jigsaw (the masked dude in control) is a bit ... well madder in this film as hes not the one in control anymore. In the first two films i thought he was great i actually want to be like that. The man is a legend, torturing those who truly deserve it, the scum of the earth, in a sense cleansing the earth. Even though its extremist to the limits. I admit i have a lot of anger inside but if there was someone like that, maybe a bit more in touch with reality who took people like rapists and tortured them and normally ending in their own death he would get my support. I mean rapist and such like deserve that kind of thing (eg having a key put behind their eye and given a scalpel to get it out and thus save their life from a bear trap over their neck) And i would love to be that man. He is great. And the film as a whole is very good, im beginning to think if they have some sort of hidden messages in the flashing screens (you'll understand if you see the film) to make it more intense. The character jigsaw is a genius, even at his demise he is still able to control those around him in ways you couldn't imagine, i personally think he is great,, maybe theres something wrong with me. I laughed my head off at the last scene right before the credits, i wont explain it but go and see it!!! and if youre too young get your parents to buy it on DVD! its that good! Slightly disgusting but maybe thats why i love it so much Anyone else think jigsaw is great?
