I think its just a case of the feeds not being live but instead having a refresh time of about an hour or so. Its rather annoying to find out someone already posted what you were gonna say so i dont bother with em anymore. But some people might find them useful.

There is one for new topics and new posts i think. But IMHO they are useless. They dont update enough and you often find that you click on a topic with 0 posts and it has 25!! (im one of those people that rarely reply if it has a lot of replies already, i cant be bothered to trawl through 25 posts and by the time i do i often find that what i was going to say has already been said.) Try clicking on the new posts part or something and you'll find it eventually. Firefox has the best RSS system IMHO with its "live bookmarks" you should try it if you havent already, you can check the feeds without an external program or leaving the page you're currently on. I have it for the BBC news which comes as standard.

Aye, thats the problem with games. They are simply stories that are paused while you do something..."And the hero battled the 3 goblins" *Waits for the user to kill 3 goblins* "and then went to his trainer in the city" *waits for user to get to the trainer* and so on. its too restrictive!

Just to clarify i didnt mean the raping of people! But the raping of villages EG stealing everything, destroying it etc... ID never buy a game that included rape unless it was part of the storyline and was condemned by the story and/or game makers "Girl gets raped, you see it, turns you into a mental psycho vigilante who goes round killing rapists" Thatd be acceptable, and a pretty fun game i expect. But yeh, it is a shame that game makers have instead gone with the "Save your realm from the dark side" option. I liked hte fact WoW has the horde side that gives you a bit of that experience but at the end of the day its an MMORPG so your actions change virtually nothing in the world and its only really the storyline that gives it the "evil" feel.Im just fed up of all the "rules" as it were with current games. Oh no you cant kill him, hes a bad guy... BOOM. I did kill him, now what ya gonna do?! Thats what i want!Definitely going to get prototype though. Theres something nice about free-running your way around a city and slashing everyone you see... I liked Assassins creed for that too. They just need something darker, amassing an army of the legions of death and marching them up to the gates of a fortress of white knights, demanding their surrender and when they refuse laying siege to their pretty little town. I could quite happily be a game writer! I also have a fairly original twist on the assassination genre too

I am indeed looking for a mediaeval/fantasy setting. I had a look at the oblivion series but like you said, the darker side is limited. I dont know *exactly* what im after, i just like the idea of riding through the landscape on a horse of doom laying siege to everything i see! But i dont know if game makers have come round to that idea yet!I think fable is much the same as Oblivion in its good/evil thing and isnt quite dark enough. Free roaming is good too

I was wondering if anyone could give me a few titles i could look at. Basically im after something that follows the general story line of:You become a dark lord, overlord, evil soldier within a horde or something like that, and you then steal rape and pillage your way through the world killing anyone who stands in your way and taking their stuff etc...Sort of like the classic RPGs that go something like:A dark portal has been opened and the hordes are approaching. You are tasked with defending your realm and slaying the dark lord before its too late....But i wanna be on the dark side :)I looked at the "Overlord" games but they had rubbish reviews so im thinking perhaps not. But thats the style of game im interested in! Something violent, dark and mature. Not corny or childish. Are there any such games for the 360? Not much of a PC gamer and i dont have a playstation (nor any plans to get one)

What about some sort of acidic substance like lemon juice, vinegar etc... I really have no idea its just a guess! OR perhaps EXTREMELY Salty water. Again, just a guess. You could try leaving a few flea collars around and giving the cat one for a week or so, see if that helps?

Well done for installing spyware into your PC :(Take it as a lesson to never install browser toolbars. 99% of them are virus ridden, badly made, extremely difficult to remove, spyware, adware and irritating. The other 1% are not necessary. Uninstall the addon (well, except you cant do that because its a pain to remove... so instead google "mywebsearch remover", download and run the tool after ensuring it is safe.) And then try firefox after restarting your computer. Firefox already has a built in search function and popup blocker which is everything that mywebsearch offers anyway, so you really dont need it.

A Q&A forum would be a very good idea, so that either guests or normal members can post a question like "My monitor isnt working, how do i fix it?" And then the regular members can reply. If you allow guests to post in this special forum it might not increase membership much but it will increase the hits i expect. -
Aye Nick was the best charcter, the way his dad just wanted to get rid of him and his mum loved him, it was rather amusing!I dont Jeremy Kyle, thats pretty funny when he just blatantly insults them, but jerry springer, please!!! ITs ridiculous! "I married my horse" what the hell?! And then it always ends up with a ridiculous fight, someone strips or is "accidentally" relieved of their clothes, the crowd cheers and thats it. I challenge you to find a jeremy springer show that doesnt follow this format.

Agreed! We invented the language and time format to stick to it :(Same as the american spelling of colour (which is wrong i might add) and their use of the word "*BLEEP*"...... I remember the 20th of Feb 2002 at 8:02 in 24hr format was 20/02/2002 20:02 quite interesting!

You can manually modify the theme either with CSS or simply by finding the images used (for the title bars and edges of the boxes) and editing them, maybe rounding the corners, adding more a gradient or modifying the colour/tone. Easier than hunting down one that fits you needs perfectly. That way you could have like a rounded theme, grey theme, blue etc... all using the same theme to start with, just copy/pasting the folder, renaming it and then editing the images and CSS contained within. It shouldnt be too hard, especially to change the BGcolor in CSS. -
Have to agree there rvalkass, i HATE american comedy, i mean its not even funny its just so stupid!"Oh, i sure hope the bath doesnt overflow upstairs and flood my new sofa *goofy laugh*" Aproximately .7 seconds later.... thats right, the bath overflows and starts dripping quietly behind the character. At that point the fake audience all go "ohhhhhhhhhh" in the most exaggerated way possible and then the character either goes on holiday only to return to a flood, or the roof collapses drenching them and the lovely new sofa in water. Its just so predictable, i mean really, is the american public that dumb or are the directors just retarded?A good example of a brittish sitcom is "My Family" It is centred on a couple who have three kids and a cousin living with them. The father is grumpy and cynical, the mother loves the kids while the father make comical snide remarks. One child is frankly mental, extremely dumb and funny, the other boy is the opposite, too clever for his age! And the daughter is the classic blonde "i only care about shopping and boys" type girl. It sounds stupid but in essence its actually really good. I just cant stand american comedy, its just not funny, ever. Its predictable, childish, dumb and badly timed. Theres nothing there but cheap jokes and silly audience reactions. The Jerry Springer show is a good example....

Happy numerical order day to you too!!It doesnt mean anything though, anyone could predict it, its just a numerical coincidence that will happen a lot at given intervals. Here in the UK we do the date properly so its 08/7 (8th of July) So we have to wait until next month!Though september the 9th will be 9/9/9 which is the number for the UK emergency services (God knows why because on the old circular dial phones 9 was the last number so you'd have to spin the dial, wait for it to rotate back then spin it again and wait, then spin it again and wait! So it was the longest 3 digit number possible!)

Thanks, ill give that a try at night. I know with a 60 second exposure at night it comes out pretty well. I can hold the shutter down for 4 minutes continual exposure too, the only problem is it will take 4 minutes of exposure and then 4 minutes to process it so if i dont get a strike i have a 4 minute downtime!

Aye, and personally i think cloud computing is the wrong direction to go... Perhaps online storage, using internet folders in the same way we map network drives today on LANs but not cloud computing... There is no need for it for most users, the only ones that would benefit are those that travel a lot and cant take a laptop with them. Otherwise it makes more sense to have the control over your own software etc....Google are headed in the right direction in making it light and secure, but in essence they are developing a web browser with an integrated OS backend which essentially controls access to the internet and supports very little software except the browser. But if they made a fully featured OS i would be sure to use it at least once. With the financial backing that google has from its other products they could easily topple microsoft and this could be the first step. And i suspect if they did topple MS the google software would be free, at least for a home environment and a lot better. But that remains to be seen. After google Chrome i need to be persuaded to have faith in their OS. Though google sketchup is good i must admit...The other concern is privacy, thats top of my agenda so we shall see.

Apparently it will be based around a linux kernel so i expect almost all linux Apps will run on it, and i expect google will have a WINE like system for windows, after all windows is the one to beat so they need to lure windows users in somehow.I think it will be worth trying as a dual boot system but as google wants to pursue cloud computing and this is aimed mainly at netbooks i think it will be very lacking, just like their browser which was frankly disappointing and im a google supporter not an anti!!Id like to see something light and yet feature rich, security orientated and user friendly yet with a powerful backend to allow techies to fiddle and customize it to the max, like linux with the ability to use its "dumbed down" windowed GUI as well as use the terminal to really hack your way through the system to do what *you* want with it, not just what the designers intended.Am i hopeful? No, sadly not. I fear it will be weak, bland and fairly useless to all but those who spend 99% of the time using a web browser and nothing more. Ideal for cloud computing which is where Google want to abduct us to, but not so useful for the way computers are used in the real world.

Well the aperture is f3.5-5.6 and the maximum lens speed is 1/4000 (seconds). Im a newbie to photography really but the lens speed seems pretty good!I think it was just my reactions so i wondered if the pros had any special device or technique to it? If its a device then ill forget about it, we dont get many storms here in the UK except on the most humid of summer days (like last week, amazing storm!!!) so its not worth me buying more stuff!!
-
The title says it all really! Got my Lumix G1 (damn i love saying that!) and yesterday we had a lovely storm in the afternoon, all dark and moody, extreme rainfall and some fairly cool lightning, not the best but good enough! I tried to get some shots just by holding the shutter button to focus it (on the G1 half depressing focusses) and then quickly depressing it fully when i saw a flash. Needless to say it wasnt very accurate. I did however get one shot out of about 30, but unluckily i was shooting from a window and unknown to me the camera had focussed on the brick just visible in the edge of the photo and hence the lightning was just a blurry white zig zag :(So i was wondering how the pros get their shots? Good timing? light sensors? Or some sort of long capture/video from which they just take out the lightning frames?I did think of a long shutter speed but it would have just over exposed so that was out the window!

Try getting rid of all your addons and check it, it could be a small bug with the new release acting against an addon, i havent noticed much difference to be honest, mine is fairly slow to load but then i do have plenty of big addons including lots of themes and what not.

You never reboot it?! This is a windows machine right? If so then no wonder you are having problems! Damn! If its linux you can get away with leaving it on for a long time, but windows is useless with giving back resources to the computer, it just hogs them and doesnt clear them away so they get wasted until you reboot and flash it all.

I think the problem is that because its an education facility, probably funded or regulated some how by the national government they want to minimize the risks of copyright lawsuits and such like, given the amount of illegal material of torrent sites its no wonder the colleges want to try to minimize that content entering their systems, not because other people might get it or for security or whatever but purely because the college would be to blame for allowing the material to be downloaded in the first place and hence any law suit or legal action would be directed against them and its a risk they cant afford to take (imagine 200 copyright suits from companies like universal music, warner brothers and such.. that would be an extremely costly bill to pay).I agree with the windows PCs being burned though....The thing is the administrators can only take reasonable steps, the head of the college might want 0% virus infection, but theres only one way to do that, format all the machines, fresh install and then block everything, networks, floppy, USB and optical disks etc.... Of course thats not reasonable hence there will always be a risk, they just have to minimize it as much as they can and blocking downloads is a good way. Within limits of course.
