  1. Unfortunately, I have already done that, so I can't recieve an extra speed increase :-(. I'll live.
  2. What are you guys talking about locking up hardware?!?!?!?I have owned both Dells and HPs, and have always upgraded them one way or another, whether adding disc drives, changing the hard drive, etc. In fact, the HP I currently have has really neat mounting solutions for the disc drives and hard disk - no need to unscrew, everything is latched in place with specially designed holders.
  3. I have bought a relatively cheap 17in LiquidVideo model, though I do not remember the exact price. Chose it because of a 16ms response, and good contrast ratio. So far, I am happy with it.
  4. lol...Nice. I need to learn how to use the .htaccess page with all the errors and things...
  5. Very nice. Something to keep in mind when building my own site...Though now I am more into learning php and mysql.
  6. Firstly, I would do it using an array, as it is much neater and easier to access: var titles = new Array("Home", "Biography", "Gallery");var urles = new Array("home.html", "bio.html", "gallery.html"); Next, to send pages to the iframe you would write: function open_content (which) { iframename.location = urles[which];} Or something like that.
  7. I ask the same question. I assume you cannot just rename .jps eh? . Somone said it takes a while to load - it shouldn't. It is a 16x16 image file, so it should be VERY small, no more then one kb, maaaaaybe two.
  8. I think this is the time it takes for the page to generate, not load. After all, the php is purely server side, and once the page is generated by the server it cannot report back (unless you tell it to with a seperate frame and using javascript perhaps). After the page is generated, it is sent to the user where the user needs to download it, including all images, and the server cannot know the user's connection speed, etc. Still, an interesting script that would be cool to develop on with javascript (onload) so that it truly shows the loading time.
  9. I got here from :http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. I was looking for a solution with PHP and MySQL for free, even if it means a little more work. I have the time to post the the required number of posts in order to have access to a good free hosting solution. I actually think that this idea is brilliant. People are happy because they get good hosting for free, and the webmasters are happy because they get advertising profits from a active forum. Nice compromise.
  10. A major component of both startup and shutdown times are the programs that the computer loads at startup and must shut down at shutdown. Go to start, then run, then type msconfig and click the startup tab. then remove everything that is unnecessary, such as a music program, adobe acrobat, printer/scanner, etc. the only thing I leave is the virus scan/gaurd.
  11. My Email: smartbei at gmail dot com (remove spaces and change symbols)Number of Invites: 100I don't need anything in return, and just send an email if you want an invite. As was said by somone, nearly everyone has roughly 100 invites, so there is very little chance of you not getting an invite for some reason from someone .
  12. Presumably this was in the era before emails . This would take hours to set up correctly, so applause for the guy who set this up. On the other hand, it would have been relatively simple to create a substitution cipher to make it unreadable without the correct key. Check this program out: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Perhaps the letter is more romantic though .
  13. This is just like Horoscopes, and the same level of unintelligence is required to believe in these things. Notice how many of them are inherently the same? Ahh well. Just btw...my name is Gahl .
  14. Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is a relaitvely old game (2001 I believe), but still has widespread following because it is free. It takes place (All the original maps and most of the custom ones) in Europe and northern Africa, during World War II. As such, the weapons, equipment, etc. are all from that era. Each map consists of an objective that one team - the attacking team - has to accomplish and that the defending team must prevent them from doing so. The six original maps have objectives such as stealing gold from a fortified bank, breacing a coastal fortress and blowing up its main gun and sneaking into a fortified desert oasis to blow up the two anti tank guns. My favorite map used to be (I don't play anymore) Oasis. I was a part of two different clans, the PhReaKz and Insane Asylum. Are there people here that play/used to play? Favorite maps?
  15. As has been said, an Image map would be best for the navigation. Flash can do it too, but it is much more complicated and unless you are going to have som flashy things there is no need for it. I think it could also be done in CSS and javascript, but I am not sure.
  16. So normal HTML does not work well in FireFox? If this is true...Crap...I need to go through and change everything. Is XHTML considered better practice or is it just somehting that firefox cares about and the other browsers do not?
  17. I am surprised that IRC is still alive. After all, it is a much more cumbersome product than the newer free IM programs. What are its advantages?
  18. That is EXTREMELY limited. Three applications: Internet Explorer Itunes (music) Notepad for taking notes. These are all very light applications, easy on the computer, and yet they would still be restricted. Still, I want to finally see Windows Vista, as they have kept pushing it back. Taking a look at the new Internet Explorer you can expect some changes in appearence and function, but will it just be a copy of the features found in pre-existing applications (mac os, linux) or something better?
  19. I really enjoyed Age of Empires, Kings (Empires II), Mythology and all of their expansions, but I have to agree with you about ROME total way. The game was made too complicated and makes the player micromanage the game, which apparently many enjoy, but was not for me.
