  1. Hey, are you having a problem?

windex or some cleaning agent get behind your screen?

look no further. I will show you how to suck that giant blob out of the screen.

Please read ALL of the instructions carefully before attempting!

    Step 1:

make sure the screen is facing up. put the PDA in a cool, dry place overnight. Even if you wake up in the morning and the blob is still there, leave it alone.

    Step 2:

Now it's time to break out the vacuum, and the narrow crevis tool. Put it on, and hold the end like a pencil about a half of an inch away from the screen. Make sure that the attachment DOES NOT touch the screen. Flip the switch. If all goes well, the blob should be "vaporized" and look like it is rapidly evaporating.

    Step 3:

only do this if you see a stain of any sort

Take some rubbing alchohol and get it under the screen again. Try leading it to the side of the screen, or get a spray bottle and "inject" the liquid in. Once it's in, try to get the alchohol to the stain. Wait overnight again. When you wake up, vacuum the blob out again (see step 2) and it's fixed!

    It's not?

    FAQ:

Q: the rubbing alchohol evaporated overnight, and now the stain is back!

A: try using something like water, and add a good ammount of rubbing alchohol. Ajust the ratio as necicary, so it doesen't evaporate overnight.

Q: I don't mind the stain. Why am I putting liquids back in?

A: if you don't get the stain out, it will become sticky, and screw around with the digitizer, the touch screen, etc. You want to dissolve the stain, and then suck it out.

    Q: I don't have rubbing alchohol. Can't I just use water?

A: well, if the vacuum fails, you can allways dry it out the old school way. If you still are having problems with the screen, then you send it in to repairs.

Q: So, why am I leaving it out overnight?

A: You need to let the liquid spread out so it will go through the little air vents in your screen better, easyer, and with minimum damage.

Q: The vacuum failed. Now what?

A: now you either dry it out under a 75 watt light bulb, or you send it in to get repaired if that doesen't work.

Q: what should I do next time I clean it?

A: get one of those computer sprays, so if something happens you can sue them :P or try just breathing on it and wiping it off with your t-shirt (like you do with glasses).

Q: Why did you write this, Isen't this problem a little rare?

A: well, my sony Clie (PEG UX50) had this problem, and I couldn't find any good tutorials anywhere, so I just combined a few, and tested them on my clie, and they worked.

Q: Can I give this tutorial to my friends, and/or put it on my site?

A: yes, just add a link to http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ to it, and you can. You don't even have to e-mail me.

Deticated to my clie, who almost lost it's life when I sprayed windex on the screen. Don't worry, you aren't screwed, or dead in the water. you will find a way.

  2. I had some files tweaked for my liking. That's why.also, my hacker proof patch is basically all the securety breeches found. If there's a problem, like a DOS attack, thin it takes care of it. If you guess the password for the admin panel more then 3 times, it reports that to me. IT's called Nuke Sentenel, and I downloaded it at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. It's for PHP nuke, but you could probably take some stuff and include it in your site.

  3. I found this on the same page:

Maybe try putting a towel over a table lamp shade and set the Axim to rest there for a few hours (with the light on of course). The heat rising from the lamp should be enough. Please look for a lamp with a lower wattage bulb in it too. 40-60 watts. I would do this and evaluate the results every hour or so.

    and,

I also happened to be stupid enough to put some alcohol directly on my X5's screen to clean it, and it leaked under it. A huge bubble formed and even though the thing still worked, the touch screen sensitivity was completely lost. Okay, the regular symptoms. However, I happen to work in a laboratory where I have access to a vacuum "box" that is used to keep reagents moisture free, so I put it inside. The alcohol dried up in a few minutes and the touch sensitivity came back to life; however, a stain remained at the spot where the bubble had been. The stain apparently is some kind of icky residue from the evaporation. It looks bad, but is only visible with some light reflections or when the unit is off. The real, annoying problem is that if I press the screen on the stain, the two layers of the screen stick together again and the touch sensitivity is lost again. I've found I can fix this easily in the lab without having to put it in vacuum, just using the pump hose directly on the screen to 'suck' and separate the 'membranes'. Sucking with the mouth worked for me once, but the cleaning afterwards is messy and not worth it. :D
This is getting quite annoying not only for the bad aspect of the stain, but mainly because if the screen sticks away from a sucking device, I'm basically screwed for a while. So, I was thinking of deliberately introducing a liquid to rinse the stain and then vacuum-evaporate it; however, I am still doubting whether I should do it and what liquid to use. I could use distilled water, but I am afraid that water might not evaporate as readily and/or not dissolve the icky stain. I was thinking about using reagent grade isopropanol (which in theory should be purer than the ethanol I was using), but I don't know if it could damage the internal membrane irreversibly. I am also afraid that the stain might come not from an impurity of the original ethanol, but from something it dissolved along the way and so using isopropanol could just make the problem worse.

what do you think will work best?

  4. I found this on another forum:

Oooooooook, dont turn the unit back on. Leave it off and remove the batteries. Now sit it on a shelf for a few days and give the Windex time to completely evaporate. It shouldnt take more than 3 days. After this, put in the batteries and turn it back on. If it still doesnt work, theres nothing left to do. I work on PC's for a living and I've had systems with almost any liquid you can imagine spilled in and on them and this is the routine I always follow and for the most part it works. I had a very similar incident with a new laptop someone brought in, he cleaned his screen with 409 then it was lights out. You've got nothing to lose at this point anyway.

So, do you think I should still keep it in front of my air conditioner?

  5. I like kyocera. My last phone was made by them, it lasted for 3 years. The battery is all scratched up, but the phone is fine. They have a good selection too. I got my current phone from them, the slider se47, and it is the coolest. Hope you like it too.the one bad thing is that it has no bluetooth support, but soon, I think everything will have bluetooth. It's allredy in cars, some phones, some lpatops, most PDAs, you know?

  6. I think we should make new technologies, but perfect them, so they don't drive us crazy. Let's perfect the operating system before we move on to software and hardware. Sometimes I think paper and pen are better. My computer takes so long to boot, and it's because my prossesor is overkill, so why not only have the best, for a low price, so I can take care of my boot up problem. I only have like 5 programs starting up, so what's wrong?

  7. Help!!!I was cleening my PDA screen, and wham! windex crawled behind my PDA's screen like my worst nightmare!I did everything I could. now it's hanging in front of my dehumidifyer.Does anyone have any suggestions?btw, it got better, and it didn't mess with the inside. Hopfully it wont, but the screen is seperate from the components (I have a sony clie PEG-UX50)so please, tell me what to do on a low budget, please!
