  1. i would have to say i fall into the nerd category, I would like nothing more than to spend most of my time with my technology (pc, laptop, xbox, etc) and watch science fiction (star trek, firefly, etc) than do much else. although I do actually have a girl (yes a real life, not something in a computer girl) which almost pust me out of the nerd group. can i be forgiven this one thing?
  2. it is a shame what the world has come to. I was brought up to not swear, i remember swearing at my mum after i had over-heard some builders and my mum washed my mouth out with soap (not a fun experience and a briliiant way to teach a child not to do something) however i have noticed as I got older and hung around with people who swore a lot these words have crept into my vocabulary and i swear sometimes without even noticing it, it tends to happen most when i am angry or drunk. I do wish i could stop it but I don't ever expect to be able to completely. Maybe i need to go visit my mum so she can do the old soap trick again.....
  3. hmm i've got ati cards in my computers and will be branching into the world of linux shortly and would dearly love to find the hardware i own being supported fully under nix. I am surprised in the world like it is today with a large number of pc enthusiasts using linux for varous reasons that they would neglect to take care of this huge customer base... shame on you ati.... shame (bad derryn hinch impersonation for you aussies out there)*signing now*
  4. when you're not sure what something means and you can't find it in a regular dictionary, its time to head to http://www.urbandictionary.com/ the source of definitons for urban slang terms. urbandictionary has this tounge in cheek definiton of skeet:
  5. ok so each credit gives me a day of hosting, but i don't understand about "pointing a domain to the Xisto servers" does this mean I don't need any additional services, just register the domain?
  6. this would be pure bliss for me, at the moment I use an extetion USB cable to take my wireless keyboard / mouse further away from my pc, i never had one until recently and could never return to using a corded version. now if only all pc parts ran the same way like the monitor and other devices so you would be able to take your pc (monitor keyb and mouse) all over the house.
  7. I have looked thru the faqs and can't seem to find answer to my first question and also have another1) it is shown obviously how much credits you require to request a website, but what are the ongoing credit costs (ie does the 20mb offer require 10 credits to setup then 10 credits a month or something similar)2) what is required to use a domain name with an account? i've never used a domain before so if i register one do i just tell it to point here, or do i need to do something with DNS servers? does Xisto offer these DNS server things?any help would be greatly appreciated
  8. i wouldn't keep using a surge protector that didn't do any protecting before, its kida like using a bulletproof vest that didn't work before..... I must say tho in my 18 or so years of computer usage i've never encountered a surge. only started using a surge protector with my latest one (coz it came free with the pc. yes i'm a tightass), and i've never met a person who has had a surge issue (that they've told me about, i don't walk up to every person i meet and say "g'day, had a surge hit your pc before" lol) so maybe i'm just lucky, or maybe its the power system here in sydney. dunno, but I hope i never do end up getting surged....
  9. well i'd say that the power cords would be produced by some random company that gave microsoft the best price. also my xbox (original, most recent model) has had errors and crashes, i've seen it a lot more on ps2s, hell i remember back with the NES ans SNES never having any crashes or problems unless you actually kicked the machine and moved the cartridge. people are always wanting more and more from their consoles/pcs and they are getting it, with more and more bugs to go with them. if only we could return to the good old days....
  10. i started paying board when i was 13, did grocery shopping all the time, and at 12 I could prepare and cook a lot of meals, i didn't do it that often as I would eat out with my friends a lot more than eating at home.
  11. hmm i'd have to go with1) Civilization 12) Chronotrigger3) Final Fantasy 74) GTA35) Zelda: Ocarina of Time6) Minesweeper7) Myst8) Starcraft Brood War9) Mario 310) Minesweeper
  12. I am currently playing The Ledgend of Zelda again. yes the original one from the original nintendo, playing it on my xbox using an emulator. Its amazing how some old games like this with no graphics can remain playable 20 years after they were released.I've also been playing ricky ponting cricket, being an australian I must admit i love my cricket and this is the most enjoyable cricket game i've ever played. contains a lot of things to unlock and different modes of play.
  13. i grew up under the impression that nobody is supposed to get along with their inlaws, and that they're all crazy, i feel sorry for my fiancee as my mother is crazy like the one you described and will refuse to accept anything other than what she already believes (unless its a pc issue, she at least listens to me about that). It can be very frustrating when she gets like that, and sometimes will even remember things that never happened, or in a way different to how they actually did happen, and nothing you can say will convince her otherwise... in short avoid your in laws at all costs if you don't get along with them, and have a happier life
  14. VOIP is where telephone services will all end up going, you'll have internet, tv and phone all come through one cable to your house, old telephone networks are not neccicary anymore and will be phased out within the next 20 years. VOIP will be great because combined with wireless networks all phones will operate like cellular phones and you will be contactable on one number whever you are, even when overseas....
  15. gta games are better than halo because they were original (they spawned many "clone" games like simpsons hit n run) and more enjoyable to play, sure the halo games are great games but its shoot, run, shoot, over and over again..
  16. that is because some web designers design their websites for IE rather than to the web standards. It makes sense for some people considering the market share that IE holds. unfortunately while windows is the most popular OS people will continue to use IE, who knows one day it might actually become a fast, stable, secure web browser. I'd say it would be the same day I'm skiing in hell.....
  17. don't forget Phreaks but I believe to be a true geek you have to be at least a little bit crazy. Some of us derive happiness from overclocking pcs and seeing what fps we can get in our favourite games, when asked by a regular person "why" we do this we just seem to stare at them as if they asked the stupidest question ever and reply "because we can"....
  18. yes google is god, it searches webpages, images, the news, newsgroups, provides translation, e-mail, calculation and conversion (it converts measurements, currencies etc), google earth, desktop search, the list goes on.... I wouldn't have any reason to continute living if google wasn't here......
  19. well if he's passed out on the back seat he might just have a drinking problem, parents can be a real pain sometimes. I grew up with my mum and let her know who was boss when I was very young (12 or so) and after that I had no issues with her. My dad could also be called a drunk, but he doesn't pass out when we are out, he just drinks way too much.... but what can i say, you can choose your friends but not your parents
  20. hi, my names terminal2k and i'm an alcoholic..... oops wrong place...lets see, i'm Mark, a twenty something guy from sydney. i like sci-fi and killing things... also i like my xbox and my girlfriend says i should start dating it because i spend more time with it than with her.....
