This Guy Has Issues... Hes cut from the team.
roggle replied to darkranger's topic in Websites and Web Designing
This is rather sad actually...I felt pained rather than found it funny but to each his own. Though it was rather mean to film it and post it on the net to let everyone see the depravity of this man/woman. -
Thank you :PI also found out that ie and firefox render the xxsmall font differently so I recently reset the thing to 12 px.Well i kinda did this website on my own without them asking me so the forums had a lot of stuff that have not had time to merge. Also nrgservers is taking a long time to get back to mysql support for the dkp site so till then gotta wait.

ATI Radeon 9250 Issues Ive been working on it for weeks now...
roggle replied to evion's topic in Hardware Workshop
What kind of problems did you have with your Radeon before? The part about the power light makes me a bit worried...just for the sake of it, try checking your card's connection to the agp slot...I actually had a similiar problem with my 9600 XT when i kept on taking it out and putting it back in. Just had to make sure it locked back and cleaned off some dust and it seemed to work again. Did this power light problem happen immediately after your driver reinstall or after some tries of taking it out and putting it back in? Regarding the driver issue...I don't have personal experience in this but I am unsure whether you need to uninstall the previous drivers...If things are acting up...I suggest you revert back to the nvidia intergrated first and then add the Radeon and install the drivers on top of it. See if that works. It should automatically override in my opinion. -

By the way for those of you interested as to how perpendicular technology works...hitachi made a queer little flash vid to explain it to us. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ expect 3-5 TB hard disks in the future -
What error does it show before it shuts down? Do you get any blue screens or does it just turn itself off. Do the shutdowns only occur during using those following programs?

Need Info: Quadro 4 700 GoGL Clock Speeds Need information
roggle replied to roggle's topic in Hardware Workshop
Yes I did...no luck at all.Went to the page and it didn't give me the clock speeds though they have it for the Geforce 4 line... -
I don't care if it's a copy...A lot of the best things come from copying but making sure it's implemented well.Firefox wasn't the first to use tabbed browsing so did they copy Opera?I welcome the change but just hope this isn't another open door for vulnerabilities. But firefox is going down the dark path of sluggishness, security vulnerabilities and instability sooo... might just use IE instead again or try out Opera.

Hello new to this forum . Started out looking for webhosting but glad I found a community as well.Anyway a bit about myself i'm 24 years old and am around 1 month away from being a barrister. Studying in London at the moment but will be returning to Malaysia to practice with my dad and sister.I enjoy the odd bit of web design though I'm pretty old school and don't know all the fancy new stuff. I still miss the days of minimalistic web design instead of the bandwidth consuming flash sites that are out there. Or maybe I'm just being a sour grape.I also watch tons of anime! Besides that I am a long time practitioner of Aikido and also play the piano (though I was forced through the latter).Nice to meet you all and oops my name is Reuben.

Seagate To Laungh 750GB Drive !!
roggle replied to miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Jeigh is right. With broadband speeds increasing and the higher availability of downloadable media 750 gb will soon start seeming normal. Remember the days of dial up or isdn when most downloadable media was around 30-60 mb including movies? Now we have much higher quality videos out there and once large hard drives and fast broadband becomes a norm, you can expect the size of downloads to expand to fill this space.Anyone know what's the speed on these babies? Does the large space affects its reading/seeking time at all? From what I read they did something like increase the density of the information as compared to just making larger platters so perhaps it shouldn't affect transfer speeds that much. -
Oh btw weaponx i'm not recommending the 7200 rpm. It's only if you're willing to pay the price for the best performance. But it's not very cost effective (the 7200 rpm one). Get the 5400 rpm one. Decent speed, more storage more bang for buck with little loss in performance. Btw when you say fan, is this the cooling air fan from your notebook? Sometimes the weird whining sound can be due to your fan being dirty and it needing to be cleaned a bit. I usually have to clean mine like once every 2 weeks as I leave it on 24/7.

Questions About Firefox Web-Page Rendering
roggle replied to sandeep1405241520's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Unfortunately IE Tab has a memory leak...would give you a performance hit in your browser and potentially unsafe. Take a look at the memory leak list here. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problematic_extensions -
I use Google but it's not necessarily the best search engine. Its results are all algorithm based which has its plus and minuses. Most of the time it is right but at times you get really odd sites.Yahoo is actually arguably a better search engine as it is powered by Google AND its own human based search people. So you are basically getting Google + human interaction. You will get the Yahoo people results first followed by the auto Google results. As long as Yahoo continues to use Google for its other results, yahoo is probably the best search engine out there. It's just that Google has a very nice clean interface while Yahoo doesn't and that is why my homepage is still my own personalized Google page.

I have been playing World of Warcraft for two years now and am basically in a top end guild. I however terminated my account once and am actually planning to do so again pretty soon.Reasons:1) Finding a group is still cumbersome if you don't have a guild of dedicated players. Player makeup is important and you need balance. Sometimes if you can't just find one class like a warrior or a healer you may end up just wasting a lot of time before you can find an instance.2) Instances (dungeons) are way too long. This game is not for the casual gamer. It says it is but seriously, when your regular instance takes 2-3 hours (with a Tom **** and Harry group) and maybe more including the time finding players and travelling to the dungeon. These are just the normal level 60 dungeons (level 60 being the level cap). However there is quite a variety of different level 60 instances.First you have the 5 man ones:Scholomance, Dire Maul, Upper blackrock spire, lower blackrock spire, blackrock depths (sub 60), stratholme (undead and living side).Taking from 45 minutes (with a super group with no hiccups) to 2-4 hours (with a bad group which is much more common). However the gear you can obtain from here is rather limited. Then there are the middle ones which require 20 people.Zul GurubAhn Qiraji 20These take around 3-5 hours with a reasonable group. The top end instances that require 40 peopleAhn Qiraji 40, Blackwing Lair and Molten Core are a whole different kettle of fishTHIS WAS THE KILLER FOR ME.First of all these instances aren't easy. They take time to learn and guilds that do these instances tend to spend like 4-6 hours on these instances every day or every other day.Getting 40 active people that don't mess up is very difficult. Sorting the drama between them is harder. Basically by requiring 40 people it's tough to just play with a close group of friends and things become really messy. One person messing up can cost the entire raid and trust me it happens.A top guild takes 3-3.5 hours to clear Molten Core, 3 hours to clear Blackwing Lair and no one has cleared Ahn Qiraji 40 yet not including the time it is to get 40 people on and to the instance. If you're lucky your guild can show up on time though most of the time u'll end up spending 6 hours or more in these instances. Most of the time remaining days are spent dying in Ahn Qiraj 40 learning the encounter. This isn't really the bad part yet. The bad part is that once you have conquered the instance, you have to do it over and over again. Over and over again. I have been doing Molten Core for 2 years and trust me killing the same boss over and over again isn't fun but I'm forced to do it for the other guild members who are less well equipped. Now with three top MUST DO instances...this leaves really little time for any life outside WoW.WoW is a great game...but if you have a life...it's just not worth it.

I can't advise specifically as I am lacking some information but some things you might want to checkout... I didn't notice what graphics card are you using? Is it onboard graphics? If you have a dedicated graphics card especially a high end one you might need more power. The other major concern I have is you say you bought yourself a 450 W power supply. What brand is it? There are tons of crappy power supply manufacturers that overstate what they actually provide...In fact your 450 W supply may be just worth half of that. Brand matters here. Enermax, Antec, Akasa, PC Power and Cooling are all good brands that don't overstate their power ratings. You pay for what you get so cheap ones which obscenely high wattage ratings are almost guaranteed to be fakes. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ is a guide to choosing a power supply. Weight matters as well . My only guess at the moment is that your power supply is a crap one but until you provide me the brand or your power supply and whether you have a dedicated graphics card I can't say too much. Otherwise I don't see why you should be having power issues as besides the Pentium IV, you don't really have that much high end power guzzlers. I'm also assuming you didn't overclock anything. Also get a program that monitors your temperature of ur cpu and graphics card and see if anything is overheating. http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php I think does it and it's freeware.

I used to love Firefox but not so much anymore although I still use it. It used to be lightweight, secure and revolutionary but now other browsers are catching up fast. Firefox has a very slow start up time as compared to other browsers even IE. Its page load times aren't the best either. Its memory footprint has gotten rather large as well. Some of its popular addons have memory leaks further increasing its memory usage as well though this is being remedied. The only reason why I still use is it is familiarity. Performance wise, Opera blows everything away though it also has a large memory footprint. However startup time and page rendering times are super. But it also costs something... Take a look at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ for the performance charts. I suggest you give Internet Explorer 7 beta 2 a go. It looks like it's shaping up well and once it's a full product should be quite good. As much as I hate to admit it, Microsoft is catching up and has learnt from its mistakes. Is a bit buggy still but even firefox is beginning to crash a lot more...

Just for your information...7200 rpm is very rare among laptop hard disks and a pain to get and cost a bomb. Mine is a Hitachi one with a 7200 rpm and it costs a bomb compared to the 5400 rpm ones but I'm the kind of person who wants the best. I sincerely doubt your Toshiba one was a 7200 rpm. Its performance boosts are not bad but probably not worth the price difference between 5400 to 7200. Here is a review with some performance comparisons between different speed laptop hard drives. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I doubt you should have problems getting a 5400 rpm one for your computer. The price difference from a 4200 to 5400 is also not large. Go for a 5400 instead of a 4200 rpm hard disk, there shouldn't be any compatibility issues. In fact, the 7200 rpm one in my notebook was upgraded from a 4200 rpm and it works like a dream in my 4 year old notebook pc. Btw weaponstar, your fan spinning a lot has very little to do with your hard disk speed. It just means your overall heat generation from your pc (processor and graphics cards being the biggest culprits) is high and your fan has to work hard to keep things cool. Hard disks don't generate much heat and faster speeds generate negligible additional amounts of heat. The rpm listed for the hard disks is the rotational speed of the disks inside the hard drive and only can be tested via benchmark tests. Go for a 5400 rpm. You'll notice a modest improvement in load times with little additional cost. I think the price difference is worth the performance boost unless your pc is a tortoise as it is already. PS: loose parts in a HD is never good...Depends what kind of sound you're hearing. If you don't hear anything really out of place, it should be fine as yes sometimes the arm is a bit loose and makes a slight sound. As long as you don't hear a rattling sound like things flying all over your place in your hard disk.

I don't think you should wait too long. According to Dell and Alienware, they would for the most part remain separate entities with possibly Alienware utilizing Dell's economies of scale to lower prices slightly but I don't see this as being significant for at least a while. Alienware and Dell are still going to be two separate brands final design. There will be some more funkiness to the XPS systems but they are going to be alternatives rather than removing the XPS line altogether. Dell suffered mainly because of its business corporate image and its bond to Intel chips which made it suffer a lot in the past year or so due to AMD's superiority in gaming. Purchasing Alienware is the solution to this. If the only reason why you're buying Alienware is for the AMD chips inside you might want to wait though. The Dell XPS line might make a comeback especially with its competitive pricing. I believe Intel has a new chip (Conroe) up its sleeves that is due to be released later this year and rumour has it that it might even be better than the AMD next generation chip. It's based on completely new micro architecture which overcomes the failings of the Netburst architecture for games. http://www.anandtech.com/show/1963 Dell having its dibs on Intel stuff will get these chips in their pcs really fast and at good pricings. My policy is don't wait. If you like it, buy it. If you start waiting for prices to drop, you'll never get your pc but if your consideration is mainly price and super performance, you might want to wait for the XPS with Conroes which should be slightly cheaper than Alienwares.

Anyone Tried Norton 2006 Yet? Feedback Please
roggle replied to sandeep1405241520's topic in Software
I have to agree with sandeep. I used to be a fan of Norton as it used to boast great detection rates but it really is a resource hogger and other antivirus companies like kaspersky and mcafee now have similiar if not better detection rates while taking a lot less resources. Boot up times become slow, your faster computer slows to a crawl and it eats a hell lot of RAM. That is my experience with Norton 2005/6. Most reviews report Norton being unresponsive though having a lot of protection. Nowadays, I'm using a free one called Antivir available at http://www.avira.com/en/free-antivirus-windows which is actually pretty good. Very lightweight in terms of system use, reasonably fast scanning and respectable detection rates. Lacks features but does its basic job well which I like. But yes I've heard good things about Avast but didn't really like its interface and apparently has a much poorer detection rate. Take a look at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,1864601,00.asp to compare the free ones. For a look at the pay ones you can take a look over here http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,1891760,00.asp http://www.consumersearch.com/ also is a good source for checking out antivirus reviews. -
Actually it all depends on the model of your notebook. If you could state what kind of notebook you have with its model number I may be able to look into what kind of upgrade options you have. However if you already have intergrated graphics, it's very unlikely that you would be able to fit a graphics card in.Even those without one of those slots for slotting in a graphics card may have some upgradeability options especially the larger notebooks or those that when you buy/configure them have several graphic card options. For example in my Dell Inspiron 8200, I upgraded it from a Geforce 440 MX Go to a Quadro 4 (Geforce 4 Ti) equivalent which quite a boost in performance. Had to scrounge around some part websites though and find a good price.Beware though as most of the time, ugprading a graphics card in a notebook is expensive and not worth the money.
