  1. It is easy to use phpmyadmin webadmin interface as well. The mysql website has a hell of a in depth documentation on all the features so if you get stuck on something visit their site for an answer first. When you think about it mysql is a very easy to use if not complex database system, if you use phpmyadmin you should be right.-HellFire
  2. Wow nice.. i'm looking for a wireless keyboard and my wireless mouse is starting to break, the rubber pads down the bottom are comming off and then it sticks to the mouse pad. The wireless is good because you don't have to have all these messy wires that could block the movement. It also looks better because there is no wires.Only downside is that you need to buy batteries or get rechargable batteries for your keyboard and mouse, then if you havn't got spare batteries you pretty much can't use your computer until you buy them.Overall you should get wireless.-HellFire
  3. I have google desktop and all i can say it's useless, what's the point in having a search engine when i've got probably about 80% of my files organized. In the rare occasion when i need to find a file i just use the windows search. Google desktop opens 3 processes related to it and it uses about 10-15mb of memory overall. The 'gadgets' are nice but there is no point, the taskbar thing wastes space when all it displays is a button called 'gadgets'If you keep your files organized then there will be no need to use a desktop search engine.-HellFire
  4. Wow thanks.. it looks like this is the reason i'm loosing a few kilobits a second according to the rated speed, or at least it will bring the speed up a bit, only thing is, i only have about 600mb on my download limit that's meant to last me another 12 days, can't wait so I can see the full potential of my connection.I think there is a setting in the registry or some other place to disable this because you can just disable the packet scheduler in your network connections, that worked a bit for me and it might help the users that aren't on windows xp.Hope that helped, -HellFire
  5. Personally I wouldn't do this, if you have a lot of ram then why do you need to make your hard drive faster? The only thing that would benefit (In my case anyways) is cutting off a few seconds on the loading time of applications.Overall I think waiting a few more seconds is much better than decreasing the overall performance of your system by using more ram than necessary, also if you change the wrong setting then there you have it, a possible non working windows copy-HellFire
  6. I got this problem too, about a week ago windows update installed a genuine check thing and it stuffed it all up, I bought windows but the strange thing is that the genuine notification disappeared after a reboot, I could still use windows update and the genuine downloads, looks like some strange bug in the genuine software checker. Also do you think firewalls (Both OS and internet firewalls) could be blocking or garbleing the signal so that the checker thinks you have an illegal copy? I think that might be the case but i'm not too sure. That was the first time i've ever seen the genuine windows notification-HellFire
  7. Yep.. go for gmail, sorry but that is pretty much the way it is now.Hotmail doesn't even offer pop3 support for free anymore, plus if you can still use msn messenger if you've got a gmail email address, just hook it up with windows live id (formly known as the .net passport). Also you'd only pretty much use hotmail for basic emailing as it only gives you what? 200mb of space? Gmail on the otherhand increases space every second and is over 2gb so imo gmail is the way to go, it even has a nicer UI and a more friendly design, hardly any banner ads nor any broken images-HellFire
  8. I never use windows media player, i reckon it's a waste of time.I use winamp, it's so much better than windows media player and doesn't use that much resources. It has loads of plugins so if windows media has a feature you like (for example the 'what i'm listening to' plugin for msn messenger), you can just get a plugin for winamp to do the same job, in most cases it does a better job.The visulizations in winamp are awesome. It comes packed with well over 50 and you can download a new visulization engine if you'd like to get better effects/features.I think windows media 11 is a waste of download bandwith but i MIGHT get it to see what it's like (Maybe when it's out of beta)-HellFire
  9. I used to play runescape but it gets VERY boring after you have finished all the quests etc.. it is very tempting to go and buy members which in my opinion is a total waste of money. Pay to play sucks, bad. You have these cool free games that are just as good. Also runescape is java based, yeah sure it's good for cross-platform compatibility but for a game I say no, that is one reason for the limited graphics, also if you have a really good graphics card and only a 500mhz pc you won't get better fps, it uses software rendering.Overall it's not worth it. Believe me once you finish most of the quests it gets boring and the members is tempting. You might as well go for a free game instead-HellFire
  10. Hahaha yeah.. who would memorize that if they don't speak the language? bit crazy also the site is pointless, you can hardly get to it without having the direct link (Because it is so long and hard to remember).. imagine the email address if they set one up, with no direct link someone is going to have a hell of a time typing that in lol-HellFire
  11. It looks like microsoft has gone out of its way in providing the best graphics, so you really do need a good pc to run it i guess. My old pc even struggled a bit on office 2003 (It was a 1ghz celeron).Looks like once 2007 is released we might need to learn where everything is again and what all these shortcuts do.It also looks like microsoft wants to create an online development environment by bundling servers with the respective products. What if you only need the programs for offline use?-HellFire
  12. I'd have to say the tekken series. I've been playing them since the old versions on playstation 1.The characters are pretty cool, especially with the newer games and the special effects. Also the gameplay is great, it has alot of modes and unlockables. If you finish the game you can still play it without much loss of fun.Although i have to admit it does get boring after a while once you've unlocked everything. It also makes for a good party game. Get some friends together and you can have a great time.Overall i'd give the series about 8/10. Only downside is the replayability imo-HellFire
  13. You sure you didn't knock anything out when you removed the case? I'd check if everything is in properly, jumpers are set correctly etc..If it still happens i reckon probably the hard drive is gone or the ide/sata connectors on the motherboard are faulty.Again, go through all the connections to make sure. That is the most likely problem-HellFire
  14. Nice.. I might consider using this especially with some sites I have my own design.Don't you just hate it when you have worked ages on a design and in the end it just looks like some profesional made it, only to find out that someone has stole the images and html etc..Great job on finding this out mate.. Also Is there some kind of script to hide your images if people try to copy them onto their pc or download them or whatever.. because as above i have made some images that i have worked ages on then i see some people have stole them.Once again, thanks for this. I'll try to make it more plain if i can by removing the javascript incase some of my visitors do have javascript disabled. Very unlikely in my opinion though.-HellFire
  15. I would say just make steam compulsary for online games, seriously what's the point in using steam for single player games? It isn't really doing much harm because online is where most of the fun is, so if someone downloads the game illegaly they would more than likely want to play multiplayer etc..-HellFire
  16. The languages needed in my opinion would be PHP and MySQL at least, also some javascript would inhance the interface making it more playable and easier to navigate. You can do most things with the php and mysql, the forum, login (And registration) page, so really you need ideas to make it happen. The shoutbox would be pretty easy to code with php and flat files (No real need for a database there). It also depends on what style game you plan to make. RPG, some other text based games? That is probably the bare minimum of what you'd need as far as the programming side goes-HellFire
  17. Try smartFTP, it's free for home and personal use and it has a bucket load of features. The new version 2 of the program implements an office 2003 interface style making the program not only easy to use but it makes it look much nicer. https://www.smartftp.com/ Try it out when you need a good FTP program, it pretty much does everything. The feature I like the most is the remote file edit feature. It will let you open a file on the server, edit it and when you save it, it will automatically replace the file for you. Very handy -HellFire
  18. Dogs that can smell out cd's now? Wow.. What if you do have legally purchased cd's though, I don't think every visitor to the country/out of the country that is carrying a cd, to have their bags searched.Another thing.. What if people copied their LEGALLY owned cds because they didn't want to risk losing the original ones, now that would take alot of explaining to do.What are they going to come up with next? A dog that can sniff out usb flash disks and mp3 players? Yeah right. I'd like to see that - how can someone prove that they have legally owned songs on it even if they did rip them from their legally owned cd. I reckon this is all a big mistake and a great way to chuck people in jail-HellFire
  19. Yeah wow.. 500gb single hard disk, imagine having one of those. As vizskywalker said you can just use raid arrays (Which MIGHT be a bit faster, not sure on that) but 500gb would be a hell of a lot of space. My old pc had a maxtor hard drive and i am currently running on a seagate which i'd say is better in every way, so i'll wait until a seagate one comes out if i want to get one. I'm happy with my 120gb one atm, it's more than enough for what i need it forThis sure would make life a bit easier for server companies.-HellFire
  20. Pretty much they are the same but with some tweaks. You can go for a cheaper version of the same card but it might perform just a little less than the one that costs the most.In most cases the cheapest to the one that costs somewhere in between are quite adeqate for normal gaming/office use.I'd only go for the top priced ones if you want the maximum fps out of your games, these ones usually come with a decent bundle of software too.In short, there is little difference to the actual chipset, but there can be some small tweaks that will show quite some performace gains-HellFire
  21. Yes you need to purchase CS. Either through steam or at your local shop.Cs will only run if you have steam installed and running. Same with all the steam gamesCs comes with hl1 and cs:cz if you buy online, i think it's $15 so it's a good deal.Once you have it on your system you can use it with xfire-HellFire
  22. Heh yep that's definatly typical of microsoft..I don't have to exprience this problem though, i use opera and it's in built mail client. It's good enough plus no need to open any new windows for clicked links.Outlook isn't great.. Mainly because it's slow on my pc. Oh well.. opera's mail is good enough for me-HellFire
  23. I too have been looking for a linux distro but for a server computer. It will need to be able to run lots of servers with great stability.I've been looking at the fedora core 5 distro, it looks alright actually. The main task of the server in my case is to pretty much act as a server, but sometimes i'll need to get on it to do stuff.I've heard alot about fedora though, i'll have a look at SuSE too but personally fedora is my choice for now. The only real downside i can see is the download size, 5 cds where 4 of them are 650mb and the last one is around 90mb (I think)-HellFire
  24. Hmm I might try this..Wonder if it works with Opera's integrated email client (That's what I use mainly)Sounds pretty good at defeating spam though-HellFire
  25. Really.. they would have had to cut it off at some stage... those operating systems are very old.. I can understand that microsoft cutting off the support for that reason.. 98 is around 8 years old now, plus with the new vista comming out it is going to give microsoft a bit of a headache.Only bad thing is the users still on 98/ME/2000..What if they can't afford a newer one or if their computer isn't powerful enough to run XP and they can't upgrade their pc?They can get 3rd party support somewhere i guess but microsoft needs to remember that those customers payed for that os.. it's like just chucking the manual out when they're pulling the plug on the support.I think 98 and ME have the help center feature anyway, cutting normal technical support does seem like the thing to do. But. They have millions of articles in the knowledge base. They don't need to clear that too.Hopefully vista will be less buggy (Ms won't need to cut support then i guess)-HellFire
