  1. When the one-year is almost finished, Xisto - Support sends you a mail asking if you want to renew, I found this very comfortable. Then you go to your Xisto account and you click "renew".
  2. Surfermac says that, according tohis own experience, formatting too often (not precised how often :every day, every hour?) makes your hard disk burn out, and beeing physically out of order, you have to buy a new one.Personally, I think that this should occur only if your hard disk is already "almost" out of of order.
  3. I suppose that we are talking about formatting the "c:" disk, the operating system disk. Because formatting a data disk will not remove a virus from the operating system disk. And, yes, formatting the main hard disk will solve all your software problems because you will have no more software... More seriously, if your operating system gets infected, a full re-installation usually solves your problem, provided that you also know how to re-install your network, your graphics and all your applications. It should not burn out your hard disk, except if your disk is already dying and has a few bytes to be written before final stop : in that case, a write-intensive will make it die faster. however, this could be a good thing, because if your disk is not reliable, if you loose if during the initial operating system installation, namely during the formatting action, is less harmful because no precious data are on it yet. So, if it's time to buy a new disk, the initial format is the good moment for crashing. If it crashes during a format, it would have crashed after a few hours of normal usage too. And, of course, formatting is not the solution to the virus problem. The solution is to have an up-to-date efficient anti-virus and keep out of infected pirated softawares. If you have a malicious software on a CD, formatting your hard disk will not prevent the virus from coming back as soon as you will read your infected CD.
  4. If it's your only disk, you can also boot on a ms-dos floppy and format your drive, or let the Windows or the Linux installer format the drive, this will also remove the bad cluster error.

Effectively, your site is a subdomain of the google domain. However, it's fully your site, it's content is exactly what you inside it.
  6. this was not a question, this was a warning : posting infos about illegal things here will lead to a ban.
  7. It's supposed to warn you, I guess. When I unzip a file, sometimes McAfee tells me "A possible harmless file has been detected and destroyed". This is very helpful because it allows me to know that my zip file was correct downloaded, but contains a possibly-non-correct file...
  8. Note sure. The devices the current topic is talking about, have some gigs of storage, even 16gigs storage. Starts being interesting, isn't it?
  9. If you are on a Linux system, you can do a little bit scripting in order to do the job. Once you have the names of the files you renamed (for instance names.html should become names.php) You can obtain the list of the concerned files with something like "grep names.php *" And then, for each of the concerned files, do cat $1 |sed 's /names.html/names.php/g'|sed 's/file2.html/file2.php' >$1.tmp; cp $1.tmp $1Of course, backup your source folder, and first test it without the last "cp" instruction...
  10. And usually the fstab file settins are correctly implemented during a fresh install of Mandriva.
  11. You need the data on your flash drive to be encrypted, I agree. You need the data transfer to be encrypted. OK.But you don't need to keep them encrypted in the final computer, in the remote pharmacy. You only need the transfer to be protected. Once the files are arrived, they can remain not-crypted because the pharmacy is a safe place. So, you can use scp to perform the transfer. you need a scp server on the remote computer, and scp client on your pc. You can use portable FileZilla on your USB flash drive, so nothing to be installed on the pc you use. scp will perform the crypting job during the transfer, and the data will be standard data once uploaded on the remote system. You will have no long way to walk with your customers, only explain them that you need to install the scp file transfer protocol because this is the way you work, they can understand that.
  12. What you describe is not the standard Mandriva Way.You will have to explain more precisely what you are doing (are you trying to open internal drives ?)However, the usual way for Mandriva is : you click on the drive and it opens it.For instance when you perform a fresh install of Mandriva on a machine having Microsoft Windows already installed, you see the Windows drives and you click on them.Same thing with the USB pendrives, if automount is installed, they are automatically mounted and you simply double-click.You cand boot on the MandrivaOne LiveCD, which allows you running Mandriva without installing it, and check all these features on a this ready-to-use system.Probably your problem is due to a failed or a partial install. Also, have a look somewhere else : probably the mountpoints are already created for you and you just have to use them, they are probably in the /mnt folder.Hope this helped.Yordan
  13. The 10mb modem speed is not a real information : I have a 100Mbits/sec modem, but my Internet provider gives me 0.5 Mbits/sec connection. The real speed you see is when you download a file. For instance, when you download a 1 Megabyte jpg picture, how long does it last ? have a second or five seconds ? Or, while you download a free portable application from http://portableapps.com/ , which download speed does mozilla say ? 500 kilobits ? 5000 kilobits ? 10000 kilobits? This speed is the info we need in order to understand if the buffer trick could improve something.
  14. It works exactly that way. You order what you want from Xisto, and you pay with the MyCents from your Xisto account.
  15. Effectively, Shutmail.com seems to have problems. Also see here : http://www.emaildiscussions.com/showthread.php?t=35258
  16. Sorry, SisteMo, you already posted this thread here : http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ You cannot post the same topics on several forum, at least at Xisto you must quote the copied part. Even if you are the original author of a post, you must post it at Xisto first, or you must quote the copied text. I did the quoting job for you today, next time I expect you to do the quoting job by yourself.
  17. I think that the real question is the USB stick write speed compared to the disk speed.Placing the virtual memory file on a USB improves the overall Windows performance if the USB disk is faster than the internal disk. If not, you are doing a negative performance tuning. Most of the USB sticks I have used till now were very cheap, but also very slow : a disk-to-USB copy was far slower than a disk-to-USB copy. If this is the case with your USB stick, you will have no performance increase when putting your virtual memory on it.
  18. They have their own player, you need to increase the buffer size, the best solution is asking them how to increase the buffer size.the other important question you did not understand is your line speed : please tell us which bandwidth you have. For instance if you download from the net using Internet Explorer, which speed do you see ? 12k ? 3000k ?
  19. Sometimes it's simply physically not possible, for instance if the distance between your home and the provider's DSLAM is more than a few kilometers. :(In that case, the only way to have more bandwidth is to tell your provider to create a brand new datacenter near your house.

  22. This simply means that the playtime of a given sequence is smaller than the time needed for downloading this sequence.Differently said, your Ethernet line is too slow.No matter your buffer size is, if you empty the buffer faster than you fill it, you will experience a freeze from time to time.Nevertheless, I agree with you, if somebody can tell you how to increase the buffer size, you can test it, simply it will probably improve nothing.
  23. And I also don't understand the aim of your question. If you want to put your database on a db2 remote server, you simply have to use the db2 tools in order to export your database to a local flat file, ftp this flat file to the remote db2 server, and use the remote db2 server import tool in order to load the data from the flat file into the remote db2 database. And of course, from a philosophical point of view, we usually work the opposite way. When I want to create programs for a remote mysql database, i install mysql and php on my PC, I test it on my PC, and I upload it to the remote server. But I always look at the remote server first, and secondly install on my PC the same softs as the server. This is the first time I see somebody first creating a db2 database and secondly looking for a remote db2 server. You must know that db2 servers are very professional and incredibly expensive servers, so only huge company can sustain the corresponding fees. Whereas you can find mysql servers for rather reasonable costs.
  24. It's worth try it. It only needs the virtualbox virtual network adapter to be included in your ubuntu distro.
