well i use it for the same thing. one for my spam and signups and another for my personal mail. actually i had all these other emails that i used to use for my junk mail stuff, but they didn't have spam filtering. so now i forward all those other email accounts through the gmail one, and the gmail spam filter cleans out all -- well, not alll, but out of 100 junk emails, maybe one or two get through. I used to recieve over 150 junk emails a day, and now it's around 2 or 3. GMail rocks!!

LOL if it's illegal, how come in just about any country in the world, at any newsstand, there's a whole rack devoted to the stuff. Maybe in some Middle East countries it's illegal, but heck no in the rest of the world.Privacy online, yes, is only a myth. No matter what service you're using, there's some way the government can get ahold of it. So if Google doesn't turn it over, there's other ways to get the info. So explain please, why would the government just want a million random addresses to check? How the hell is that supposed to be investigative work? Here's a thought: rather than trying to trawl through every person's data in the effort to "stop the possibility of children being able to access porn", why not just buy some company's porn blocker, and make it freeware, and make it available for download so that parents can install it on their lkids' comps if they feel the need to. And once that's done, then the government can, as you said, go after the webmaster who are encouraging the stuff.

And does anyone know what to do when you're trying to close a process, but it won't let you? not as in, "this is a critical system process" type error, but like when you're trying to close media player (frozen) and it's not using any processor power, but it allocated memory starts climbing past 200 or 300 MB, your computer slows to a crawl, and the ctrl+alt+delete trick doesn't have any effect. Yeah you can push the restart button, but what if you have important info you haven't saved yet?& to xbox, I would like to install linux on my laptop, but when i checked into the different distros, and which one was reccomened for my Compaq Presario, it was said Ubuntu had the most built-in driver support etc for Compaq models. However, when i installed it it wasn't able to find the proper drivers for about half the hardware in the computer. So what other distro would you reccomend i try?

That's quite a sweeping statement. Setting aside the issue of "brainwashing", which has been proven in court to be simply a convenient escape from having to take the blame for your actions, who's to say that we are any better? Maybe our supposed moral standards are higher, and as people become "civilized" they leave behind the primitive aspects of cannibalism, human sacrifice, and indiscriminate killings, but where's our reality check? untold millions of people slaughtered in just this last century, in which almost every nation on earth had a part in some way or another.... does that make us all brainwashed? No. And it sure doesn't make us any better than the Aztecs, the Romans, or what have you. It's only gotten worse.

I have it on one of my computers. it's a pretty good one i think. but it hasn't stood out to me as a truly stellar product, such as NOD32. but it free, so why complain? it's not too hungry on system resources, and does a decent job. as you pointed out, the updates are a bit on the slow side. again, NOD32 has updates sometimes several times a day.

Yes! NOD32 is absolutely the best. it's not for absolute novices though, so i also use avg and kaspersky on general used computers, but for me personally, NOD32 all the way. definitely one of the highest detection ratios, and in years of using it on many computers, never once did i get infected with a virus.

There is a way to do it. I wouldn't know about freeware, but you should be able to get a trial version of cakewalk. i've used that. import the mp3, create a blank track to record to, and then arm the track for recording. then just play the midi, and it automatically records it in realtime. then to export, you need to pay for the mp3 encoder, but just do it to wav, and then to find a wav>mp3 encoder freeware is a piece of cake. read up on the help files for cakewalk, and who knows, you could figure out how to do it in other freeware programs too.

I agree with you, but you need to realise that these arab "terrorists", as many call them, or more accurately i think, FREEDOM FIGHTERS, are young people who, ever since they were children, have grown up in an environment that oppressed them, hated them, filled with bias and prejudice. That is not a healthy surrounding for any child, and the result, having grown up seeing only violence, is that they believe violence is the answer to their problems. And why shouldn't they? Israel, the dominant power in the region, can hardly be called civilized in its treatment of the arabs in the occupied territories. so in a way, yes, violence is an answer. Not the best one, but it's a way they can strike back. It's funny, all they have are stones, guns, and bombs, and we call them terrorists. If they had a large army, we'd call them freedom fighters or guerillas. If they were really rich, and possibly had nuclear capabilities, we'd call them a proper nation, and treat them as such. Rings a bell, that last one, doesn't it? Sounds exactly like Israel. A non-violent solution would be the best, in fact, Tom Clancy makes a sound case for it in one of his novels, The Sum of all Fears. All it would take would be for someone to be brave enough to try it. I imagine blood would be shed on a significantly larger scale than Tom Clancy portrayed, but it would definitely get public opinion and the media on their side all the more.

Getting back to the subject of Office, what's that supposed to mean? is Microsoft going to wait until NEXT YEAR to release the final? I love the new interface and way Office 12 beta works, but if it means i'm gonna have to wait a whole year till they come out with a final version where all the bugs are fixed, i'll switch back to Office 2003. For those of you who haven't tried it, you should. A totally different concept from previous versions. so much more versatile and useful. only problem is that it's not backwards compatible. at least mine isn't, in that you have to save your document in earlier formats if you want it to be able to read on other computers that still use the 2003 version. that may not be a big deal if you're just converting a word file, but if, for example, and i speak from experience here, you've created this great powerpoint presentation with all this fancy wordart, shapes, backgrounds, text styles, and what have you, and it may look great on your computer and save at a mini 5 MB or less, but just try to save that same file in 2003-compatible mode --- forget the 95 mode. Your computer will slow to a crawl as powerpoint searches every text and graphic in each slide, and makes a list of what will be converted to graphics in the powerpoint so that your show will be viewable. that will take a good 5 minutes at least. then the final saved file will be about 10 times larger than your original. come on there has got to be a better way of doing things. --stuff like that is my only gripe.

They're supposed to hold around 25 GB per disc, but I think for a year or so at least it'll be cost-prohibitive for most people to even think of switching. Maybe later down the road once Windows Vista has got a solid foothold, then Microsoft and partners will probably think about subsidizing blu-ray or something like that, so that they can help pull off the switchover sooner rather than later. that would be their end goal, if only for copy-protection and related issues, as well as HD content. But with a simple internal burner going for roughly $1000, and a bly-ray dvd player for your living room at slightly under $2000, it'll be a tough act to pull off right away.

I got an old laptop from someone, and had to load windows98 on it, as it's too slow to take anything better. I was able to find all the drivers on the internet, in particular from driverguide.com and IBM's website, but there was no driver for power management or battery. There is a battery in the laptop, but in power options it says i don't have one. how can i get the computer to accept that there's a battery there? As it is now, as soon as i pull the power cord the laptop goes off.

Ok, I got mixed up. I didn't delete them, simply disabled them. I did try to re-enable them, but it didn't make any difference. BUT... these were the entries I disabled:Ypager (Yahoo Messenger), NeroCheck, Acrotray, Qttask (Quicktime), and Ypops. As far as I know they don't have any bearing on the system startup status, other than using memory. I don't see how they could be related to the windows services.

I daresay you wouldn't find one. That's simple enough for anyone to find out. Where are the millionaires? Where are the top-level congressmen who help declare the war? Where are the armaments manufacturers who create all these weapons? They're definitely not out on the front lines. It's summed up very well in this essay by David Berg, and although it was written during the Vietnam war, I don't think the situation has changed one bit. WAR-BOOM-BUST "WAR" CALLS FOR AN INCREASE OF FACTORY OUTPUT (WEAPONS, ETC.). FACTORY INCREASE MEANS MORE WORKERS BEING HIRED AND PAID. This means more people have more money to buy products of all other industries (IDOLS). This increase in jobs and spending is a "BOOM," but this increase in money leads to inflation. INFLATION is when the value of the dollar drops (or the amount of things it can buy drops). It is the old law of "supply and demand." When something is scarce people value it more; when something is plentiful its value drops. THE BOOM IS GOOD FOR THE POOR MAN AND WORKERS EXCEPT PENSIONERS AND THOSE WITH FIXED INCOMES, because even though the money is not as valuable, at least he has SOMETHING. The BOOM is when we have a time of plenty of money, and everyone has got some (even though its value is less)--because everyone is involved in jobs to produce weapons of war, and other jobs to provide idols that this increased working force will buy. This is when the sellers have to compete for the favour of the few buyers by dropping their prices to lure him to their place. This is a buyer's market. People will give up their houses and cars just to get their hands on a little money. The money is now worth a lot more because of its scarcity. THIS IS A "BUST", recession, or depression. This eventually ends with most of the people selling their possessions for a little money and the Big Merchant ends up with everything. Of course, there is always the chance of a slaves' revolt at this point (Revolution). SO THE MERCHANT TAKES A FEW STRAWS OFF THE CAMEL'S BACK by having the King open up some soup lines, and even a WPA scene (government work projects). Sometimes it is cheaper to keep the slaves in line by giving them a few crumbs, than it is to contain them with firepower (police, guards, etc.). A few soup lines are cheaper to maintain than an armed occupation force. BUT THE QUICKEST WAY OUT OF A SEVERE DEPRESSION IS, OF COURSE, TO START ANOTHER "WAR". THIS COMPLETES THE CYCLE by opening the war factories which puts enough money (paychecks) on the streets for the idol factories and manufacturers of necessities to start producing and selling again. BUT THE VIETNAM WAR IS MANIFESTING A PECULIAR PHENOMENON. The threat of Revolution is so impending and well-advanced, that the powers that be (Business, Politics, Armed Forces) are aware that a recession would set it off. They know that a few soup lines, and lying promises won't be enough to hold back a Revolution in the event of a recession (which would be inevitable if the war ceased). They are also aware that their present policy of feeding the youth of the Nation into the war machine is also fuel for agitating the revolutionary element: so, either way--TROUBLE!

I used msconfig to delete a couple non-essential programs from the startup. I've done this many times before and never had problems with it. However, the other day I tried it and when I rebooted my computer, almost nothing worked. Flash drives wouldn't recognize, the sound card in device manager was supposedly working properly, but if i tried to play anything it would tell me there was no sound card installed. The system slowed to a crawl, my virus scan, firewall, and pgp wouldn't start. I repaired the installation off of the original windows cd, and it fixed the sound problem, but then my network wouldn't show up, and device manager was a total blank. I happened to go into services.msc and there I found that every single thing was disabled. How on earth does something like that happen, and how can i prevent it from happening. It cost me hours of work to try and fix, and if i would have gotten any more frustrated, i probably would have resorted to a clean install.

True...everyone has their own set of morals, but there are limits to such. You can live by your own rules, but only as long as they do not coincide with the laws of your country. Ok, that is subject to interpretation as well, but simply put, you can do whatever you want as long as it doesn't harm anyone, or affect them without their consent. Therefore, while euthanasia shouldn't be the automatic cure-all, it's different than abortion. An abortion is most of the time a quick process, which while i do not entirely agree with it, as it IS the killing of a life --though there are times when it can be the best pick of a lot of bad options--, you can later reverse your decision and have a baby. Death to someone who has already settled in on earth, on the other hand, is as far as science goes today, irreversible. perhaps that will change in the future, but for today, it's the way it is.
