Iframes Sick Of hates
moonwitch1405241479 replied to creedgaming's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I've never used iframes, but heh, I'll look into it LOL. I do use frames on one of my sites... and here's the why. There is an index page, which doesn't have the frames, it's a disclaimer where you click "I am 18" or "I am underage and scared of what you're saying" (which takes em to disney.com). Then the actual site starts with frames. A top frame where I have a flash banner and a nested left frame with again a flash menu (xml driven). The content (main frame) is basically static, external style sheets and uhm about 5 graphics one on each profile. So to protect my bandwidth there, I do use frames. Also the use of frames when using flash etc is nice for dial up users, it only has to load once and it stays :DBefore anyone here thinks I am violating the TOS, this particular site is not hosted here. I wouldn't do that. -
OK OK... First off.. I approach a lot of things with some basic sarcasm, it's my coping/defense mecanism (don't ask LOL).. Now, my name is Kay, I am 21 years old and I am bisexual. I have basic knowledge of BDSM/Ds/Gor. That's all the confessions so far. My mother is hetero, she is in a loving relationship with some guy I don't like LOL. Does my sexual orientation change me? No. I am who I am. So I am fat, so I have submissive AND dominant streak... Doesn't make me a bad person As far as the "being born gay or not", for as long as I can remember I have been attracted to women, to men as well, but more to women. This doesn't make me lesbian, but bi with a stronger "feel" to women. It does get more complex, if I would tell you all more about MY personal history. All my life (since the age of 4) men treated me like the filth of the road, an object to use and abuse (yes, in just about all possible ways), I feel that this did contribute to my sexual orientation, I grew up naturally distrusting men. So needless to say, I was closer to women. In that aspect, no I wasn't born bi. But I do feel it has some roots in my genetics, the tendencies... This may seem a stupid comparison, but not everyong likes dark chocolate, some prefer white, some milk. Are you born with those "presets"? Or are you brought up into them? I also know a few transgenders, does it make those people evil? Heck no, they're the same as you and I, they just happen to have the mind of a woman and the body of a man (or the other way around). Your sexual preferences don't change your ability to love, your ability to do whatever you want.... but it does affect how people see you... For example, I completely disagree with OpaQue (earlier this thread LOL), but this won't affect how we interact (at least I hope it won't ). Or let's say Nils (yeah, everyone knows we're shouting in the box often LOLOL) - will he now see me different? I can only hope he won't. *Moon gets off her soapbox and passes it to the next* Edit from here *Moon reads Sadas' post and decides to get back on the soapbox* I am NOT diseased, not crippled, not disabled (well I am for different reasons LOL look it up - it's called Borderline Personality Disorder.. before people think it's caused by the bisexuality - it's my dad's fault - go kick him LOL). Even someone who's gay/lesbian/bi is a person, not an object. Now, about parenting, adopting children. Like I said, I am bi. I have a sister, she's almost 4. I love her more than the light on my eyes, and I know she loves me as well. It doesn't matter to her, she loves me for me. Not for my choices in life. For a child, a stable, warm loving home is important. There will be more than enough role models from the other sex present in the childs life. Teachers, grandparents, aunts, uncles,... Now as far as the child seeing and accepting homosexuality as normal and then having loads of problems and getting discriminated. Uhm, that is NOT the fault of gay people, but of those who choose to look at gay/lesbians/bisexuals as abnormal, diseased, sick, etc. Actually, it's the reaction of society on homosexuality that causes some to stay "in the closet" about their sexual preferences, and yes, that can lead to suicide.

What Keeps You Occupied On The Internet?
moonwitch1405241479 replied to harriko's topic in Websites and Web Designing
In all honesty, at times I seem to have too little time... Here's a list of current projects, sorta.. Being active here, and moderating Running a forum for a bunch of friends building a site for the same bunch of friends (who really deserve a kick someplace ) building MY own site being a mod in an msn group of survivors doing some photoshop learn/work in flash/actionscript talk to people who need to learn to GOOGLE for answers to questions such as "do you have any links to ....." trying to actually finish a program in Delphi (I know ... Delphi is bad, but it's the first thing I learned and didn't pay attention in class blegh) Playing ShadowMUD making futile attempts to keep my posting rate up in USI (Play by email RPG) Oh yeah, I also listen to music, read articles, read other forums and just do some occasional Idle surfing -
I am realizing this may start a lovely debate but still... I choose Other in the poll..*MoonWitch gets on her soapbox and clears her throat*Well, maybe you thought the "witch" part in my name was there for fun, but it's not. And I don't have warts, I don't fly a broom, even though it would be so handy Anyhow, I was brought up in an open way, more or less pagan looking back. Growing up I never really felt closely connected to one religion, however; I did dislike the Church as institute. Because I then felt the Vatican was so rich and preached to give to the poor. I am older now, and mellowed down some, my views about those things are less strict, but they didn't change much. I was about 14 - 15 and wondered about religion, belief systems etc. I knew so little, so I looked up all I could find. For some reason I came across a website about Wicca and read up on it. I felt it somewhat described me, but not perfectly. I ended up finding more info about WitchCraft. After alot of looking, thinking, I felt that it described how I was, thought and felt. I told my mom and much to my surprise she told me she was the same... So, my religious choice is WitchCraft, not wicca. There's a small difference. I believe in a higher power, with a masculine and femine aspect. The God and Goddess. They both have many many names, each name represents a different aspect they possess. I found much comfort in this. For the record, to avoid misconception, I don't worship the Devil, I don't believe in the devil. I do believe in Dualism, that everything has a good side and a bad side. For example, being stubborn is considered negative, however you can also be "stubborn" in trying to solve something, which is called determination, considered good. So to me, this is dualism. To me, the true magick (no miss spelling here - this is how most witches spell magick ) of life, is the sun setting.. the beautiful colours lingering in the sky.. the power of a thunderstorm, the smile of a child, laughter, the smell of rain on a hot summerday... (do I need to mention I am an ever romantic soul LOL)

Hehehe, a fun topic Well, for starters, I prefer openOffice over all other office suites. It is smoother, faster and looks better than M$ Office, I feel it's more userfriendly than STarOffice (I have used M$ Office, StarOffice, OpenOffice and back in the DOS days and 386, CorelWriter or something LOL - I can't remember). Now, I have tried all those options, to create pdf's like that. And I felt they lacked a lot of control. In school, I was taught to use LaTeX, THE typesetting system. Yes, I will admit it, it takes a long time to learn the code, it's not the easiest way to do it. But you have full control. In Linux, this can be selected to install, or you can do it manually. In Windows, it's less easy (believe me it is sad). \documentclass[a4paper,titlepage]{report}\usepackage{times}\begin{document}\title{Chemistry: Cb4}\author{Me LOL}\date{\today}\maketitle\begin{abstract}Blah blah blah blah\end{abstract}\tableofcontents\part{Carbon Chemistry/ Organic Chemistry}\chapter{Epilogue}\section{Section of something}\end{document}That's what the code looks like So yes, I actually do use this, I've written a chemistry course this way (I felt the teach did a bad job, asked if she wanted a hand and I converted her word doc into Pdf this way ) Now, in Linux, this is the fun stuff. You just enter a few commands and you're set $latex file_name.tex (this will create the dvi of the tex file ) $dvips file_name.dvi -o file_name.ps (this converts the dvi into ps - postscript , the -o tells dvips to save the conversion to an output file) $dvipdf file_name.dvi file_name.pdf (Conversion from dvi to pdf) $ps2pdf file_name.ps file_name.pdf (conversion from ps to pdf) $latex2html file_name.tex (will make each chapter into a different html page with the link in order etc) In windows, you need to get MikTeX first, install it (it's HUGE), get a dvi viewer (I think it does come with MikTeX - it's called Yap) and at this point I still haven't successfully created a website from tex in windows LOL URLs (all for windows, since in Linux it's usually already there LOL) TeX User Group MikTeX NotePadd++ to write the tex files WITH syntax (you'll be happy to have that LOL) WinTEX 2000 (another Tex editor) Well it seems this is longer than I intended LOL... maybe one day, I'll actually start a genuine tutorial for LaTeX LOL

Welcome here Phoenix Bro Glad to see you Anyhow, I have a wee comment about CrestSign's site, the navigation is only present on the index page, and thus making prospective customers having to use (this can not be correct grammar) the "back" button in their browser. Just a small comment Love, Moon - Kay

Msn Messenger Digital Signature GAAHHH
moonwitch1405241479 replied to szupie's topic in Security issues & Exploits
Maybe you have ActiveX disabled in IE (MSN dislikes any other browser then IE) and that's the issue? I have never tried the games on MSN LOL. But if the certificate is no longer valid shouldn't it obtain a new certificate (it expired over a year ago) -
Well, I am posting that on a few mailing lists LOL Thanks for that story, it's too funny LOL... Ya made my day brighter.. *starts to call some dude named dad and insulting him, thinking "thank goddess for unlisted, secret numbers"*

O...k.... If OpaQue is Bill Gates in disguise, then why are the servers running Linux (or at least that's what my cPanel reads LOL)... (I would die laughing, if the Microsoft servers would be running Linux ) I don't know about other global mods, regular mods or admins other then OpaQue, but I don't get paid to be here, I am here as Global Mod, because I like it. I think it's fun, at least I have fun here. I am learning new things every day, I meet nice new people, I have excellent free hosting. All I have to do for all this, is post on a regular bases and read posts, see if they violate the TOS etc? Good deal if you ask me. I can have fun, learn things AND be hosted in return for posting *DECENT* posts?! Yep, I think we got a very good deal here

My Website Banner/ Logo What Do You Think?
moonwitch1405241479 replied to Shogi's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Well, I think the third edit of Sadas was too much, I think the noise overdoes it, it seems cluttered. Shogi, Uhm the chrome, I would put a mild texture on the chrome part. Nothing too dense, because that would again seem to cluttered. Maybe add some dark clouds to the chrome, I don't know. But I'd try to increase the level of realistic in the chrome part. Other then that, looks great -
Well, I solve that easily. Especially those .exe, .pif, .cmd, .bat files... I don't hit any key in that window and just decline. Even if I know who is sending it. Most of the people I know, or have on my messengers don't even know what command line is, let alone willingly spread stuff like that. So if for some reason that screenname attempts a transfer of such files, I just know it's not them doing it, but some virus LOL. So I give em call (yes, I do call folks in the US etc, which is bloody expensive LOL, or I just text them on the cell).

Wow.. that's amazing! Be sure to let us know those stats Does this mean apache is good? Or that those that tried are bad LOL. I don't know...I feel that in order to have a good secure server, you should know how to see if there are exploits and which level of security (lack thereof) those exploits are.It was part of our final in school, to "hack" into the main server, retrieve the root password and then change it. Sad part was that our teacher seemed to have forgotten that with the root password, we also had access to the administrations mainframe, which allowed us to change our own grades. But oh well, who counts Of course when we told him, he did stop laughing. He was one of those "einstein hairdo" head on subspace types, forgot everything, he even once forgot to MAKE the final assignment, the test itself LOL

Firefox 1.01 Problema
moonwitch1405241479 replied to chris1234's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Well, I have FF, been using FF since v0.4 or something. Because I got fed up with all popups, lacking security in IE. I recently upgraded to v1.0.1 and never had an issue. Other than one, which was not FF LOL (I will post about that soon ) I will second everyone with the uninstall/reinstall. Sometimes issues can also be caused by plugins that are not fully compatible with the new version of the browser and you may need to uninstall the plugins and get them again. Also be sure to check your connection settings, it seems like a stupid thing to mention, but even the best can forget a small detail like that. Well, you can turn off Java or limit it in FF, so that may be the issue with you installing Java-plugins. This is actually a security feature of FF, to disallow Java plugins, since a lot of malicious code can be embedded in Java. -
THank you!ZA is fully gone, because it messed up my pc to the extend that in order to get it removed from registry (which I did try, but somewhere I must have done something wrong because my laptop told me I no longer had a cdrom drive, and in order to reinstall the drivers I had to put the disk in the cdrom??????) So I got fed up, and reinstalled LOL.I will give Kerio a try, and I also heard some good things about BlackIce. And if worse comes to worse... heh, I just reinstall Windows LOL, a clean sweep wouldn't hurt my system, in fact I normally reformat every 6 months and I am late for that LOL. Again, thank you

Hi, it's me again LOL...Anyways, yesterday I went through a series of problems connecting to Yahoo, Paltalk, ANY chat client for that matter, I also seemed unable to have Thunderbird connect to my ISPs pop3. I figured it was just a coincidence, but after half a day, I finally decided I had enough and started looking around. I found out that when I disabled my Sygate, I could connect to those services, when I enabled it, I couldn't. The weird thing is, I've been using Sygate for a few weeks now and never had those issues, my rules were not changed or updated. I made sure that PT (PalTalk) and Thunderbird had full allow open even. But it did not change a thing. In the past I have tried ZoneAlarm and found it NOT nice. I am a person who likes to be able to configure a lot and ZA did not meet my standards. The problem is (I disabled the firewall completely - I also noticed that when I rebooted my pc, my network card doesn't start up automatically, which well it used to do LOL) on PalTalk there are a few really rotten apples, (I can fill an entire Board on them alone LOL) that in the past have tried a few things on my pc, so I prefer to actually have a firewall running (even though I at the moment still run ProtectX and ProPort, which scans MY ports)Does anyone have an idea on how to fix the Sygate issue? Or recommend me a good, highly configurable firewall? Preferably free, but I don't mind a paid one either... heh, I did learn that it pays off to pay for security..

What Is...[are] Your Favorite Programs On Your Pc
moonwitch1405241479 replied to firedoor's topic in Software
Mmm, it is hard to actually "rank" the programs... FireFox and Thunderbird : I use this more than anything else on this computer Notepad ++ : I use this instead of the normal notepad, this is the same but way more, it has nice syntaxhighlighting and tabbed interface Here's the link. WinAmp : I would be lost without my music, I almost never have silence, even when sleeping I have music playing. It silences the thoughts (but let's not go there LOL) Dreamweaver and Flash MX Pro (I should write Studio MX though, but Flash and Dreamweaver are the main ones I use): Gah, even though I am NOT good at Flash, I still like it. PhotoShop WITH ImageReady : together they're unbeatable, I am truly in love LOL SSH : the program, not the protocol LOL. Ok, so I obviously am bad in choosing a few programs only LOL, but I tried. Actually I prefer most of the programs on my computer. I've checked a lot of programs, and those I really like stay on it, those I find not meeting my needs or requirements have to go. Since I am cramming this on a wee 12GB HD. -
Astahost Mini-banner For on your site
moonwitch1405241479 replied to friso's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Went there... and snarfed them (snarfing = copying a graphic to your pc it's a word me and some friends use often LOL) I would love to put a banner up on my site And I now also found out OpaQue is a "FLashy" guy all I can say WOOHOOO! LOL (ok so I am on a sugar rush) -
Astahost Mini-banner For on your site
moonwitch1405241479 replied to friso's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Hey Friso, Cool idea (I have a text link on my blog here). Well, I would think that it is best to stick to that banner design, since I think it's the Xisto.com logo. Maybe the creator of this could release the lil H shaped round logo in psd format so we can make our banners with it? And the font? (I so agree with you friso ) We could even turn it in to a banner design contest Just an idea here of course... -
Question About Html Need help
moonwitch1405241479 replied to Kyle Perkins's topic in Websites and Web Designing
The graphics issueWell, what your site shows is already in the folder /public_html/ so when you give the source of the image as <img src="/public_html/images/mainbanner.jpg"> It will make the computer think the image is in public_html/public_html/images/ See the difference, the actual graphic is in public_html/images/ You're best off using <img src="images/mainbanner.jpg"> The forthslash BEFORE images should not be there, because that tells the computer to go look in the folder ABOVE the one you're currently in (ok I am not explaining this very clearly - sorry - I am trying LOL) Basically, what your site displays is the content of the folder "public_html" (without quotes), so when you want to link things (be that pages or images) you don't have to include that folder or the entire sitename. It's called relative linking, it makes it easier to relocate files. What you need to remember is of ALL the folders you find on your space on Xisto.com, only "public_html" contents (the files WITHOUT a . before them) will be shown when someone surfs to your site. So when you go to http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ you are already in "public_html" which then makes the need to specify that folder when linking unnecessary. The non working links Kyle, I also noticed your links. For example "Information" links to "http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/; This file doesn't exist, well, I am sure it does exist, the link is wrong. The link should be (in code of course) <a href="information.html">Information</a> Assuming that you didn't place that file in the sub directory of "public_html" of course. I hope this explained it at least somewhat It's the explaining part that is hard LOL If you have any other questions, feel free to post them... And of course, someone will probably do a better job in answering you than I can... Editted, because I learned that there is a code to highlight HTML in UBBC (thank you spacewaste ) -
Upgrading An Ancient Notebook which HD?
moonwitch1405241479 replied to moonwitch1405241479's topic in Hardware Workshop
That's still pretty pricey I think. I had made a budget plan, meaning I looked for the parts I wanted (ok not exactly true - I wanted 1024MB DDR2, but I am NOT rich LOL)I came at 1500€ ($2000) with 17 or 19" TFT included, no OS though. So I decided to stretch the budget for a pc to 2000€ ($2700) maximum. LOL. I'll post my specs to get your guys approval ... I am just the kinda gal that has pretty high standards (good thing when I am doing something, but a bad thing because I am a perfectionist in everthing) Oh, and about running XP on this machine, I have considered doing that, but my friend has the exact same laptop and she tried XP, took the laptop about 15 min to boot up and it was dreaded slow so I think I'll stick with 2k LOL. It's not like I am running a Dinosaur OS like another friend of mine does (Win 98Se) -
Upgrading An Ancient Notebook which HD?
moonwitch1405241479 replied to moonwitch1405241479's topic in Hardware Workshop
I know, but still it was worth the overthinking... and I can't switch to Mac solely, somewhere I need to have a windows I use a few programs to communicate with friends that has no mac or linux client (PalTalk - and yes, it's with spyware IF you have the free name there ) I used to consider less functionality in MSN groups (when posting on site) as a point, but heh, FireFox is not supported either (I didn't really expect it to be) so I post in HTML there LOL I just code it on the spot (although if I want to use colors, I do look them up ) Now is an iBook really THAT good? I've never used a Mac so I don't know... -
Upgrading An Ancient Notebook which HD?
moonwitch1405241479 replied to moonwitch1405241479's topic in Hardware Workshop
I expected this spacewaste, but I do appreciate the reply thanks.... Firstly, I don't have any idea how those programs are able to run on the machine but they do LOL. Thing is they do run slow LOL... Photoshop works pretty ok just takes a lil while to start up. Flash is ok too, the worst actually is PSP9 and Delphi (takes 10 min to start). Maybe I just manage it well (on background I always have Sygate, ProtectX, Proport, AVG, Abyss WebServer and Yahoo running ) And yes, I need and want a new system... -
Ok, now I have a real question, I intent to actually do this, so please do not give me the bad advice LOL... Currently I only have a 12GB HD in an IBM Thinkpad 390E (the series with a 14.1inch screen). I would like to have a bigger HD, anything more than 12GB, the idea is so that I can run a Dual Boot more or less. Well, it doesn't have to take me to dual boot I could for example keep this 12GB for Linux and use the bigger one for Win. Or something like that. Anyhow that is the goal. Does anyone know which HD I can use? I don't know which MB this thing has (looked on the IBM site). Here are whatever tech specs I can find Processor -> PII 333MHz RAM -> 256MB which is the maximum. HD -> IBM standard 12GB Current OS -> Win 2000 Pro (for anyone who wishes to know, I can run Photoshop 7, Flash MX 2004 Pro, PSP9, Dreamweaver MX, Delphi 6) This is what I could find on the IBM.com site. I can come up with a few from Ebay. Finding them new seems to be harder LOL (I at one point actually asked in a hardware store) I just found this article..... and I wanna cry now LOL Bad News (Max storage?)

As Nils pointed out, it depends on the program.. And here is the WHY you need to empty the folder first... The server is Unix and your FTP program will, when you click, feed a command to the Unix server. For example when you remove a folder named blog from your public http, your FTP program gives : (charly being you as user on the server, then /home/charly being your home directory on the server and $ being the prompt - in case you know this already sorry for repeating) charly@Xisto.com/home/charly/public_http/:$rm blogOR charly@Xisto.com/home/charly/public_http/:$rmdir blogWhile this works fine when the folder is empty, you need a lil extra options to get rid off the folder when there are files in it. (the rmdir will not remove directories that are not empty - this only removes empty directories - rm is usually used for files) charly@Xisto.com/home/charly/public_http/:$rm -R blog This should remove the folder AND its content (I can be wrong, my command line knowledge is beyond rusty). The options -R is recursive. That is the cause of the issue. How you can implement that in your FTP program I have no idea LOL, I intend to message OpaQue for shell access (Where I feel better LOL) I hope this didn't confuse the issue too much, sorry to not be able to serve you with the answer yet. Just let us know which program you use and we'll try our best to solve it
