  1. yep, the idea is the same. they don't actuall crack it. they just try out any string and take the hash of it. it's ok if you know that the word you are looking for is about 8 letters long, a password or so, but it might as well be something completely different. besides, if you hash it twice, no way they'll find it...it's kinda stupid i think.
  2. yeah, openoffice 1.X was ok, but it lacked a database program. 2.X (beta versions) finally have one! i really like it a lot. besides, the ms office compability improved.for those who wouldn't know: there's a windows version too!, it's not just linux-fun!
  3. never had problems with linux on my laptop. oh, one thing maybe: if i change the cd, it won't mount but that's more a problem with my laptop than with linux.really, go for it. if you're doubting, backup your files before you do. it won't kill your computer. in the worst case scenario, you'll **** up and loose your windows installation (you just have to be carefull when you're asked about where it should be put and partition info), but if you make the right choices, all will be fine. and if it isn't, it won't kill your computer. a simple windows re-installation or a format should do the trick.beginners, you might wanna try out mandrake linux. it has a nice configuration panel that looks just like the windows one. it's like linux power for windows kiddo's. linux, you gotta love it
  4. if from school: it's probably because their firewall blocks the 2082 portcheck out cpanelproxy.net the trick for mee
  5. on the site of yahoo, there's a link to submit your site. you need a yahoo id to do so however, which kinda sucks i looked up the link for the submission: http://search.yahoo.com/info/submit.html
  6. i've been into hardcore for about 7 years now. don't call slipknot hardcore dude :Pif you wan't real hardcore, get dillinger escape plan, converge, botch,...you might like poison the well and stuff, old cave in and stuff like that.avenged 7fold, darn i dislike that band.
  7. it's more than that tobias. java would allow you to make just about any program. if you'd want to, you could make microsoft office with java or photoshop. and it would be multi-platform then: you could run it on any os that has a java virtual machine!butttt, it's not that efficient.java's cool though.besides that, Ihunath was 100% right
  8. aw, overread that. maybe this might help, but i guess you'll need a knoppix copy or another live cd (like ubuntu, which has apt-get, which is great) otherwise: partition magic, it's the easiest way i guess.
  9. if you wanna do it good & easy: search google for dvddecryptor and autogk gordian knot is probably the best windows dvd ripper. i use it to backup al my dvd's. autogk is short for auto gordian knot. so what you wanna do: go here http://www.autogk.me.uk/modules.php?name=TutorialEN it's an excellent and easy tutorial. they'll tell you to download dvd decryptor and how to adjust the settings (don't forget this!!!) this will put a copy of your dvd on you harddrive, uncompressed. then with autogk, open the dir where you put the copy and it'll compress it to xvid or divx, as you like. for divx, you need the official divx codec though. xvid is better anyways.
  10. my laptop is about 2 years old now. amd 2500+ with an ati radeon 9600 with 64mb dedicated, 512mb ram, 60gig and a dvd rewriter. paid 1400 back then. still does the job fabulously :Pbut those tablet things are cool.spacewast, it's not the same as a handheld. it's as big as a laptop, but you can turn the screen so it seems as you're holding nothing but a screen. and then you can write on them with a special pen, touch screen and stuff like that. nice thingies!
  11. haha, that abcd... one is so cool. i found it a couple of months ago. it's like asking for trouble. a lot of sites won't let you enter it when you try to register and stuff.
  12. what i think of it: that it's a few years old now, i never bought it and thought it was a good prank as a lot of people did. shocking people is cool. like jim carey in man on the moon
  13. you can just ping the host too:open command prompt (start menu -> run and then type: cmd and press enter)then in the command prompt, you type:ping thehost.comyou see the ip address apear in less than a second
  14. don't install k-lite mega codec pack, it installs a lot of **** you don't need. either you go looking for the codecs you need, but if you don't know how to find out, the easy solution is: vlc, the player that will play everything, going form dvd, to wmv, avi, bin files,... it's here: www3.telus.net/jefmil/Stairway%20to%20Heaven%20clip.mp3 it's free it's good!
  15. try this in dos:ping othercomputernameoripconfig on computer A. write down the ip addressthen on computer B: ping ipadressyouwrotedownif this works, it should work. on your network card (config. panel -> connections -> the connection you use), go properties-> in first panel, find tcp/ip in list and go for the properties button again. check if netbios or bui or something like that is installed. if so, it should work.one one computer, say computer B, rightclick on a drive, properties, sharing, and share the drive, with write-option checked.then it should work.on computer A, open "this computer and type \\ipadressofcomputerBthen you should see your shares.
  16. i have one of those net models.i'm quite dissapointed. mp3 support... rrrright. all your mp3's are converted to their attrac format, which i kinda dislike.recording... no digital copying afterwards. sucky. no mic in but a line in, you need a self-feeding mic.anyway, i'd never buy one again, although the battery lasts long and the quality is good, it lacks recording support.
  17. dunno if i'm to late or not:set one computer's ip fixed. like 192.168.0.1.best a xp pro, 2000, or 2003 one. xp home should work too. dunno about 95/98then connect all of them to the hub. the other computers should get an ip address in the 192.168.0.x range now. should work like a charm.
  18. most of the distro's have a bootloader though. would be installes on your linux disk.basicly: you need: a windows partitionat least... let's say 3gig of spacethen during setup, make a swap partition of about the size of your memory. the rest of the free space, you make ext3 partition, mounting point /if you install windows after you installed linux, you can boot from your cd and most of the times, type "rescue" as boot command.that'll give you the option to reinstall your bootloader.my 2 cents
  19. today's paper said that fat people (with big body-mass indes) have smaller penisses... hehe.glad to be slim!
  20. alrighty, let's get things straight:irfanview has very little options.gimp is about the best thing you'll find for freeif you're willing to spend money or go illegal, go for adobe elements if you wan't easy photo correction, or paint shop pro. this is for things like red-eye removal and stuff.if you really want a pro-tool, adobe photoshop is the only answer , but gimp is getting pretty close, so i don't think you need to change editor, gimp is really really good!
  21. wow, about 5 years now. started with C++ and C, went to java (swing), vb &nd vb.net, c# and some others. still love C++ though. although C# is really easy to make nice GUI-apps.and scripting... well, i'm pretty good in bash scripting and stuff, awk, php, javascript, vbscript, and some more, can't think of em right now.still.. i heart C++
  22. i got a.i. at school. they're making progress but they're far from the end.the most know test is where they put a person in one room, and give him a computer. he's in a chatroom with 2 other persons. one of them is a computer. he can ask them questions and he has to guess which one of them is the computer. up to now, the computer fails to act human every time again.imagine the person asking the computer to solve a calculation, like: give me the squareroot of 1184648114681843. the computer has to realise that that is to hard for a regular person to calculate. so he knows the answer, but he can't give it.anyway, i don't think we have to fear for matrix or i robot kinda scenarios for the first 20 years but it is an interesting research area, as it could make a lot of work lighter (and make a lot of jobs obsolte )
  23. firefox has had some security issues to. last one was an exploit that could fetch the content of your ram-memory. all of it. including passwords, documents you recently opened,...so it's not that safe either, but it's better :Pbut indeed, the more people use firefox, the more security issues will apear. it's always more interesting to make an exploit for a product that is used by millions of people than for one that's only used by thousands.however, firefox is getting bigger & bigger, growing to the same popularity of ie now!best thing would be to buy a mac, as they only represent 5% of the world computers, not even worth writing virusses for, hehe.in the same way, their browser is one of the safest around.
  24. got another one: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ fine with me. the only issue i have regarding webbased ftpclients is security. they could easily fetch your login information, as you just hand it over to them.but then again, most of our sites aren't interesting enough to hack or take over i guess, hehe.but still, i prefer a common client. but if you have no option...but the main reaon why you would use this and not the file manager in your Xisto cpanel would probably be that port 2082 is blocked where you are. work, school,... most of them block that port.the solution: cpanelproxy.net my advice:change your cpanel password to something silly.go to that site and start the auto installer.go back to cpanel and change your password again to you regular one, just to be safe.now go to cpanel.yoursubdomain.astahost.com, should work fineand it's safer!
  25. i changed to hapedit recently. freeware, has php code completion,...tswebeditor is quite good too, but i didn't like the way it handles indentation.for linux: gedit & quanta plus, although my quanta keeps crashing on me :Pfor the ones who don't know a lot about html: i'd go for dreamweaver. frontpage really sucks! really!
