  1. This is not true, what is true is that there can be no output (to a browser) no HTML at all, I use it after processing a form and entering new data into the database and then sending the user either to a welcome page or another page immediately after filling in the fields. The header() function may be used anywhere in the script so long as you place it somewhere within that script that produces no output, what do you thinkis happening when you fill out the registration data here on this site, you are being redirected with a header, you are not clicking any links and somehow that data got placed into a database while you were being sent to the next part of the registration process.
  2. The Fair tax is basically a National Sales tax on new purchases, a used car no sales tax, just a sales tax on new godds, of course I guess food would be in that as well, but you would not have anything at all taken out of your paycheck. There is currently a new book out about this by Neal Bortz a former lawyer and talk show host on WSB radio in Atlanta Georgia. Seems he's already selling quite a few of them and lobbying congress to pass this law.
  3. Well merely passing the Fair Tax would stop all that stuff and help everyone once and for all, and eliminate the IRS and many other superflous jobs being done to support the stupid and complex tax structure that we have already.
  4. That is because normally MySQL runs as localhost, there is one host that I must connect to as mysql not localhost. Most of the time localhost is fine it is the username and password that matter to the MySQL server.
  5. The mention crimpers are Ideal Telemaster crimp tools, and there are even more expensvie brands than those, a cheap set of Cat 5 cost me $70 at a lowes where they were marke wrong I went back and the were $98 but only after I had seen the bargain, even at the supply house they were $87 for the least expensive of test exuipment. The fibre optic cable testing equipment required to be used on all fibre optic cable at WalMart cost$16,000 and send full reporst on all cable right striaght from their own system to their headquartes. The $to crimpers would not have lasted me a day, when I might terminate 50 cat5 cables, do 20 or 30 telephone modular plugs for cat3 (telephone cable) a punh tool is 45 dollars with just one set of blades either for cat5 or cat3, I had to have both and a spare for each. Doing a patch panel for just 1 calbe require 8 punches to the patch board and I might patch down 50 or more of those in a store if it were a major new system going in. $10 crimpt tolls might be a deal for someone who does it maybe once in a blue moon, but 7 days a week up to 16 hours a day, it just wouldn't work. When doing new sotre instead of 1000 foot boxes of cat5 we used 20000 reels of cable, and of course the more you buy the les it costs, but go to Home Depost and buy just 10 feet of cable it will be about 17 cents for indoor and 28 for outdoor rated cable then you still have to have the RJ45 male plugs and the least I believe you can buy is a pack of 25 for $15, I think you might buy a small kit with4 plugs bot about $5 I have never bought that few, and if your cable fails you will probably need to repair at least one if not both ends, and without a tester you wouldn'tknow till you plugged it in and nothing happened. Believe me when I say you are best off to just buy the cable right off the shelf at Wal-Mart or Best Buy or Home Depot or Lowes or K Mart, and getting a 5 foot cable when you think you realy only need 2 or three if you are wrong you will spend all the time and gasoline to go swap or posssibly pay even more for the right thing.
  6. Try "localhost" for the host name it works fine for me change it to $host="localhost"; // Host name$username="hp2001"; // Mysql username (make this your username that you login to cPanel with)$password="********"; // Mysql password(make this the password you login to Xisto cPanel with)$db_name="hp2001_ucscKGD"; // Database name$tbl_name="members"; // Table name
  7. You can go straight to the download page on Nuke Cops at this LINK and it will be the second one. PHP-Nuke is a CMS (Content Management System) with news, forums, weather (if you add it) topics, RSS feeds, all kinds of modules and blocks some coming standard with it and others that you can add. It uses a ported version of phpBB2 which is why you need to convert the database tables. phpBB calls its users phpbb_users where with PHP-Nuke they are nuke_users phpBB calls is Posts table phpbb_posts where PHP-Nuke calls them nuke_bbposts. phpBB calls the tables in script with $table_prefix and PHP-Nuke uses $prefix this is the reason for changing the table structure with a utility like phpbb 2 PHP-Nuke. Also most MODs for phpBB will not work without being ported to PHP-Nuke, I have ported 30 of them to PHP-Nuke, such as the Attachment MOD or the BB Code Box, country flags, logos, gender MOD, and more if you do go to PHP-Nuke and wish to find MODS that work with PHP-Nuke them PM me and I'll point you to plenty of them.
  8. You mean people actually buy such articles, I thought this was the worst economy in the world, because George Bush gave people a tax cut, surely it wasn't enough to peuchase a Plasma TV or anything more expensive than a 50# bag of gravy train to eat, and everybody lives in tents. Are these People drug dealers and do they deal in cash? I bet that is what it is. How do they buy gasoline to get to the Best Buy store to get this rather luxurious merchandise? I would think that by reading the news with the widespread unemployment of (4/8%) of which 5% if considered full employment (shhhhh don't tell anybod that). My I am surprised that you are even employed or going to school and not eating gravy train out of the 50# bag with the rest of your family, you should consider your self to be quite fortunate, I'll bet you even own a car and drive it to work to sell those very expensive aritcles to those rich people and drug dealers.I am just kidding the economy is great and welcome to Xisto, I just don;t neceessarily like the krud that the news media spews. There are at least two ways of lying one is commission where you actually say something that you know is not true and another is to not state at all anything concerning a particular even and in the case of the media you get both, if something is good they don't state it and if it is bad they tryto not only report it but embellish is at the same time or in the case of George Bush going AWOL (a military term he was not charged with, because it didn't happen). Then you have CBS new actually presenting document that were apparently bogus, due to the time frame they were suppose to be written in and also becuase of the protocaol of the military in the event of such documents.Welcome from Houdini a Vietnam Era Viet who knows about liars about the wars our country gets in whether they are right or wrong....I could keep it on but maybe you might know I don't like some of the news that I see and hear. By the way I volunteered for service in the 70's and didn't burn my draft card or run to Canada to escape the FBI.
  9. What all are you really wanting to use from one system to the other, do you want all the posts, all the users, what? If you are converting from phpBB to PHP-Nukes ported version then I could see the need for it, but the original post is almost pointless, like it has been stated earlier why go from a free to a paid site or vice versa. If your just want all your users then it can be done and you actually doing a little work on your own prior to swithcing to the new system and possibly at least testing on your new site before going live, at least that way they can all still log in or just do like I di and start all over letting users know that they needed to reregister due to the magnitude of the change and most of them weren't really active anyway.
  10. Actually there used to be a job classification of Production Typist, and these people were expected to type at least 120 words per minute with zeo mistakes. When in my stupid keyboarding class there was a woman there taking a course required by her employer for a raise and a promotion, who violated all the rules about posture and all that but her speed was 135 words per minute, she had been a typist for 20 years as a professional, there used to also be certifications given for keypunch operators to keypunch IBM cards for programming computers. When in my earlier years in college 1972 my COBOL programs were written on IBM cards that had to be key punched, usually the programmer would hand a programming sheet to the keypunch operator who would punch out his program and hand back the packet of cards for insertion to the card reader which would run the program, and you should never drop your cards and get them messed up or you would have to go through them one at a time and read them and see what sheet they belonged to or have the cards marked with a felt pen with a number on them in case of such a disaster.
  11. Yes I agree XAMPP is great I have been using it for at least three years now WAMP is also good, I do not know alot about easyphp but to test your MySQL install, since apparently you have not made any changes to your MySQL server yet copy and place this in your web root directory if it is www then put it there, or the place where you placed the phpinfo code earlier mentioned. This file will connect to your MySQL server and show its status. Name the file mysql.php as shown in the comment of the file then point your browser to your localhost and that file and you should see a table with all kinds of stuff about your MySQL install, or you will get an error. <html><head><title>Test MySQL</title><body><!-- mysql.php --><?php$host="localhost";$user="root";$pass="";mysql_connect($host,$user,$pass);$sql="show status";$result=mysql_query($sql);if($result==0) echo("<b>Error ".mysql_errno().":" . mysql_error() ."</b>"); elseif(mysql_num_rows($result)==0) echo("<b>Query executed sucessfully!</b>");else{?><!-- Table that displays the results --><table border ="1"> <tr><td><b>Variable name</b></td><td><b>Value</b></td></tr> <?php for($i=0;$i < mysql_num_rows($result);$i++){ echo("<tr>"); $row_array = mysql_fetch_row($result); for($j=0;$j < mysql_num_fields($result); $j++){ echo("<td>".$row_array[$j]."</td>"); } echo("</tr>"); } ?></table><?php} ?></body></html>
  12. Nearly the entire tutorial can be found here at this PHP Manual page and actually almost verbatim the HTML in Email example if right from the manual. To learn even more then I sould suggest that you download the manual and possibly also get a great free PHP editor like PHP Designer and it will incorperate the manual and do keyword lookup of PHP functions like the PHP mail() and you would learn even more if you use the online book at this link Practical PHP you might even learn more, it is full of examples and covers just about everything including PHP 5 with the support for OOP.
  13. I can type 200 words per minute, but you can't read them cause they are all mixed up and not necessarily spelled correctly (Just kidding) I had to take keyboarding for a college course and after being in a self paced course for abot a month the instructor came to me when I was hovering aound 40-45 words per minute and asked if I would take a B for the class and I said YES, it was my worst grade all others were A's.I do have a friend who was also a typesetter and also a freelance journalist who types with his two index fingers. He went to college and part of his course work was either called keyboarding or possibly typewriting, because they still had typewriters back then where you actually had to take you right hand and slap that lever to return the carriage and make a line feed whilst typing. In the course the instructor asked about his unorthodox finger placement, and then the instructor agreed to allow him to challenge the course with a couple of rounds of speed typing. His average over three attempts resulted in 115 words per minute with two index fingers and almost no mistakes, so you never really know.I alsways did hate the correction fluid and trying to line my page back up to make corrections, I love the new way, I am still waiting for the "smart keyboards that know what it is that I want to type and will be one of the first to own one of them).
  14. Actually I believe that a breeder reactor for the supply of energy would be a better choice, and the sun is actually just such an example of one, why harness something that can be done here on earth with samll resources, the Nuclear Industry has been around for years but those that don't fully undetstand it are deathly afraid of it with no real basis other than uninformed opinions of journalists (first-third graders with a college degree in BS).Look closely at developing the energy from the smaller parts of the earth or universe for that matter. Stars last for eons and will continue to do so, and using a technology like a breeder reactor (which puts out more energy than it takes to fuel the process) would be a step in the right direction, face your fears and conquer them. The USS Ronald Reagan just commissioned is designed to last 60 years and can travel the world many times over. It is nuclear powered and will require refueling one more time in those 60 years. If you have never been aboard an aircraft carrier, then I can tell you that I have. The energy demand is tremendous to launch and recieve aircraft and feed, cook, bath, and provide the massive electronic and electrical systems aboard such a craft, it is a floating city with a crew of thousands, not to mention weapon systems, the bridge etcetera required to run a ship like that.Even a nuclear submarine could supply electricity to a small city i the event of an emergency, but due to security porposes this is not done. Get nuclear and be assured of a job for life and refine that and help take the scare out of it to actually improve energy dependence in the near future. Also learn about abiotic theory where petroleum or oil is actually produced by the earth itself and not from dead animals (dinasaurs) just do a Google on it to see what I mean, and the Russians already not only make use of the theory but prove it to be true.
  15. The only thing I would suggest is to go to the home page of all of them, possibly actually install them one at a time, look at the available addons, etcetera and then make a decision. You could google for CMS then find all kinds of CMS systems. If you want to try them out locally then you would need a web server PHP and MySQL installed in most cases to try them out locally and if you don't like it remove it and if you do then upload it to Xisto and actually use it.
  16. Being a contributor on PHP Builder in the forums ocassionally you will see posts that do have such garbage, but you also see that it is evident that some are not comfortable with the English language. I will also preface this with stating that my job in the United States Navy was to train pilots, all pilots and also those that speack with them speak in English, it is the international language for that industry. Many who do not speack or possibly have difficulties with the language of English can get their point out, and they do not use UR or any chat or (CB type lingo from the old Compuserve days). In a chat room I can see that because that is real time and the quicker the response the better, but a forum for asking questions to those that might not have the chat manual handy to respond might not really know just what the h e double toothpicks you are talking about. I am the worst about mispelling or possibly it is that the keys are in the wrong place of my keyboard (if only I could invent the smart keyboard that knows what I mean to press) so I don't mind a misspell or comma splice or even an occasional abbreviation. As an example I was in FASO in the US Navy which is the acronymn for Fleet Avation Specialized Operations but where I was assagned was FASOTRAGRULANT-DETCECIL which of course stands for Fleet Avaition Specialized Operations Traning Group Atlantic Fleet Detachment Cecil Field ( I know it does not exactly work correctly, ask the Navy about that part). So Sometime I can see an acronym but if it had in parenthesis what it stands for it would be nice.
  17. What I am talking about has nothing to do with using an editor that is WYSIWYG especially if it costs money, my PHP Designer 2006 works just fine for code development. The question posed by the user could not have been solved by using an editor, it needed someone to look at the objective and come up with a solution. Again here is the persons query; You don't use includes with MySQL so no editor in the world will make that happen. They were using the wrong logic about what they actually wanted to do. If the purpose was to place a large amout of data into a field in this case the contact field (column if you prefer) was to use the SQL of LOAD DATA INFILE "datafilename" INTO TABLE tablename which is a far cry from an INSERT or UPDATE query. This was actually more of a MySQL question than a PHP question although you could use PHP to perform the query, I haven't checked back because I and another member suggested the same approach but the user that posed the question seemed to have something different in mind (I think).
  18. I am not the most regular contributer to PHP Builder but every now and then there is just a question from a newbie or someone that can not be fixed. I do not know if it is that they do not know how to ask the question but this one has been going on too long. It seemed from the question that they asked that they wanted to insert some data froma text file into the MySQL database. So after looking at their query (the original question) I deduced that what they really wanted to do was More posts went by and I got disgusted, either because I do not know what they want to do, and am not a mind reader but an escape artist (I have been known to even disappear) what other method of doing what you saw quoted would help the poor soul, 'cause I don't know?
  19. You could try the online Practical PHP book at this link right here and see if that not only saves money but is pretty complete, and I found pretty easy to understand.
  20. The closest you can come to what all you have defined that I can see is a conetent management system or CMS. PHP-Nuke, Joomla, XOOPS etcetera can be found by googiling CMS (open source) PHP is simply a scripting language that can be used for web development and editors do not by nature provide predefined setup of all that you have specified so I would look at just the existing CMS systems that are freely available and learn from them. Highlighing is good for debugging nto for designing or seeig potential problems while writing the code but not much else. This might not answer your question but what you are looking for is a very specialized IDE, and I doubt you will find it unless you build it yourself.
  21. Interesting topic, and subject to mathmatical and or physical error, and given in such a timeframe that it is more than likely just a theory, and of course it could not be fact becasue those have already happened or can be proved by experimentation (or testing) that can be repeated by using a set of criteria that must be followed. There is also the uncertaintenty factor. This I do know that there is a bomb that has been created called the cobalt bomb, which in theory is so powerful that they are afraid to test it becuase it could destroy the entire earth in the process of testing it, and they are afaraid to test it even in space. But if we knew the trajectory of an astronomical body that was heading in a direct collision course with earth we could place one or more of these bombs in a ship that launched a missle with such warheads to explde within a couple of thousand miles of the body (which was at least a million miles from earth) and then one of tow things will happen, we will know that the bomb is really powerful and would have blown the earth up and did in fact destroy the threat, or it was a dud and just made a big mess and perhaps did not do anyting at all to the threat. Of course there is a third and possible forth possible with number three being that the blast did ifact destroy the incoming threat but the effects of the blast were also coming our way to knowck the earth out of it normal wobbly orbit around the sun and we would wtill all die a quick death, only the governments of the world or at least those in the know would not let us know of the impending doom. The forth possibility is that the bomb would in fact destroy the object and everybody would be happy only to find that a study from some more pointy heads would state that the result of the gravitational forces of the solar systen were so disturbed that the earth was placed into a different orbit that eventually would sling us into another galaxy and we would all still die once the sling took effect, and they are still working on the math and physics of it to let you know how bad it is gonna be. Good thing I won't be around to see or feel it.
  22. What happens if the user has java or javascript disabled? I guess it don't doo too much.
  23. You could always use PHP <?php $email="john@zend.com"; if(!eregi("^[_a-z0-9-]+(\.[_a-z0-9-]+)*@[a-z0-9-]+(\.[a-z0-9-]+)*(\.[a-z]{2,3})$", $email)) { echo "The e-mail was not valid"; } else { echo "The e-mail was valid"; } ?>Yes I know that this is a Perl & CGI but PHP is considered cgi and server sides like javasxript with a user not haing it enabled will not work while the above will. Plus it takes care of .de.tk.anything with two character tlds.
  24. With a CMS it is possible that those that are not registered will only see the content that they are authorised such as to register and maybe a news page or topic that only unregistered users will see when viewing your site, they can't view forums, they can't download files, post news articles actually just about anything. This is probably why it is called a content mamagement system or CMS for short. On my site unregistered users can view m downloads but not download them, and if I wanted they could view topics in the forums but not post or if I wanted they couldn't even view the topics if I wanted it to be that way.Using a content management system is definately the best way to go for almost total control over your site and its content and is not hard to learn to use one and set it up the way you want it, with very little knowledge of PHP or even HTML although knowing some of both is a great help.
  25. What "buttons" are you referring to and what kind of application are you talking about? It is hard to offer any help wihout much more information thanyou have just given. Are you talking about the browser type buttons for forward back recycly stop and home or what?
