I just read a new article in the TIMES magazine. On page 13 entitled "Iraq: Counting the Costs"This write up is based on findings by Harvard budget expert Linda Bilmes and Nobel-prizewinning Columbia economist Joseph StiglitzJust to quote a few juicy data"Final cost to US of the war could be $2 trillion" - "10 times higher than $200 billion suggested by White HOuse before the war."To arrive at this amount, they have included "lifetime cost of disability payments and health care for some 16 000 injured soldiers; increased recruitment budgetsl debt financing for war expenditures"Implicit in the article was that the government has not curbed spending or increased the inflow of money through raising taxes. A huge budget deficit on the way...The only good news the article has to offer, which I cannot really atest to is that of divorce rates. Down from 10 477 in 2004 its just 8367 in 2005.But the numbers itself should scare anyone. Even if the soldiers do not die in battle, their families are being broken up.I think it is time for the people to do something. Vote a government that will not go to war and just mind "our" internal affairs.

Well that would mean all the more, the war is a complete waste of resources, time and the cons are more than the pros.Whatever it is, war can never be a good thing. History repeats itself. What in the world was Bush thinking.Yet then again, the loss is one the US can handle well. Even though the government may now be on a huge budget deficiet, the economy is doing well (partly because of the war) which means that though there is a huge deficit, in real terms, it is only a small percentage of GDP. In that sense the American government is doing very well. Economically at least. Public opinion is another issue

But seriously speaking, if you haven't done anything wrong or have nothing to hide then why would they wire tap you? Even if you have your private life to hide, wtih so many people's private lives to look at I doubt they even bother much about you. What I find funny is that this technology is so widely used for terrorist and those big criminals but never used on more minor criminals to find out the truth of the matter. Thus, I think we can all be at ease, they will not spy on us (unless again, you did something very wrong)
-
I actually read the article from the TIMES magazine about wiretapping and I believe its quite hard to conclude who's in the right or in the wrong. Bush has his reasons to use emergency powers. However, since it's Bush we are dealing with (who isn't by most people's faith been doing a very good job) then we have doubts.Overall, be thankful you have a media that will expose this. Think of other countries where the media is so controlled you may not hear of these atrocities but that may not mean they are not occuring.

It is a war after all, so there are bound to be casualties. Probablly we have to ask a few questions. Are the casualties worth it? What is the war for anyway? If we think about it, what the war is for, and the benefits to be gained from it, or the benefits to be gained from not going to war compared with that to be gained from going to war, I think it is not worth fighting and the deaths are hardly worth it.First Bush may be going there for the oil, for the ideology (which is to assume the role of a superpower, extent spheres of influence and show it is in control), or maybe as the Press things on the assumption of defence and flawed intelligence. If it were for the oil, it may be worth the fight. However, USA has enough reserves to keep itself running for another 100 years IF and only IF the Bush administration cuts down on its cost spending. However, with the Iraq war, spending has increased and its quite silly to get more oil just to spend it away, though probably less than 50% is spend away. However, at the moment it seems there are no concrete signs of US taking over all of Iraq's oil rigs for themselves or anything close to that sort. As such, I firmly believe the war is a stupid idea and should not have been fault. Besides, no amount of economics and empirical calculation can account for the emotional and psychological hurt of the soldiers loved ones.

Glasses are cool. They've got tons of uses. For me, i'll rather wear glasses than contacts coz glasses look nicer, though the real reason is that i cant afford contacts so its either glasses are a few twigs and some broken glass glued together. But anyway, glasses do have a few advantages. For nerds, glasses make you look more nerdy, sometimes thats how girls are attracted to nerds, i dont know how, its just the glass physcology. For da punks, sometimes you might wanna look studious, especially during lectures with some 2-bit teacher who bases everything on impression. So you wear glasses and you get more marks for exams. Or maybe its simply because you see better. Either ways, glasses would help the hopeless, though its probably just a last resort. And after all the random babling, i safely conclude that glasses are useful. Some probably dont realise it yet, but most of the people in universities wear glasses, that goes to show, wear glasses and you get into a university. Cool isnt it. So wear glasses, look cool, look hip, look studious and make a good impression.

Would You Reccomend Adsence? for my situation?
liauce replied to psychiccyberfreak's topic in Search Engines
Google adsense is not too bad. I've tried it before but because I didnt have a lot of traffic I decided to cancel it. Why not give it a shot. On the other hand I have also heard stories about accounts being acused of flauting some rule at the last moment just before payment. I am not sure if google really did this but it seems you cant really earn a lot. If you do google may just find some way to cancel your account. Moreover, due to security reasons (as they claim) they deal with the matter in a very high handed way, you cant appeal, ask them to explain or even reconsider, you will just receive a computer generated message. Therefore try but do not get your hopes too high. -
Very interesting. I always thought radio stations had to pay for their lisences, or else, how does the music industry make their money? Also this only works on the internet right, i.e. you cannot broadcast it on air on radio waves so that people can tune in to listen. Hmm anyway this is an interesting method of sharing your songs with friends. But I have to say I don't have the time to commit to regular radio DJing.

Hmm, if what you say is true, that the price is the same and the quality is good, then maybe the bargain is not all that bad after all. But you forgot to mention the screen size. Does it affect your enjoyment? Entertainment? Please share with us

DO you think we will ever get to live on the moon, or even mars. Won't it be too expensive to put everyone there. At the rate our technology progresses, I don't think things will be much cheaper though they will get better. When you say the sun is going to explode and become a supernova lol it sounds so much like Amagadon or sorts. However, I never really read this stuff but always believed that the world was never created to last for eternerty. Interesting...

Precisely! I think everyone one here sort of agree that the idea is not a good one. However probably if they could work on battery life, a bigger screen and have say the screen on one side the buttons on remote or on the other side then the size of the screen could equal the size of the device. That means a fairly big screen without too huge a device. I also think that recent power technology has improved tremendously so if one is willing to pay for it, a powerful long lasting battery should not be a difficulty.

I think a lot of people are now using the PSP to watch videos because the sound and graphics are good and the screen is big enough. I really do not see the point in watching movies with such a small screen because personally i own a laptop and I watch my movies on a train. Now that experience is truly enjoyable. I cannot ever imagine myself squinting at a small screen watching a movie, getting to know the plot, but unable to enjoy the action and cinematics. I think that is a pity.So if you want to watch movies while on the go, go get a laptop with a DVD drive and you will not even have conversion and uploading to device headaches.

My first impression when I read the title was that it was about pop stars and rock stars but lo and behold, its about our universe. That is really very interesting. In fact, I never knew a star had like a life and much less a life cycle. Does anyone have any idea how much a decent telescope for seeing stars might cost and where to get them?

Do You Burn Feeds ? www.feedburner.com
liauce replied to nehemiah's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Personally, I use wordpress to blog but dont see any feeds on my blog and am very fearful of it using up extra bandwidth. I think, at the end of the day, your visitors want to read about you and whatever content you promise, not the news or the weather report for they can easily find that with a simple search or even on a google bar for example -
Do You Burn Feeds ? www.feedburner.com
liauce replied to nehemiah's topic in Websites and Web Designing
sorry but what does feed burning mean. I know what feeds are but not sure what exactly you mean when you use the word burn. To me feeds can me a waste of them because we go to the website for the real content and not all the other cheesy stuff. But then again, if its a blog or a community website where people spend some time surfing around then I think the feeds will be helpful. Personally, those are the times when I read feeds. By the way, do feeds use up a lot of precious bandwidth? -
I think that with all the improved 3D graphics, the game slows down a lot and even after minising all the graphical effects the game is still too slow for me. Can anyone help me out on this. I mean i'm using 1.6 GHz the Intel Pentium M Processor with a 1GB of ram and maybe not the lastest but very new graphics card and the game is still too slow for me. Especially with all the complicated terrain the tanks manuveour so slowly and really destroys the fun. If you ask me, I prefer Red Alert 2 and the good old Red Alert 1 which seems incompatible with windows XP.

Clixsurf.com - New - Hot manual surfbar, 10% daily, 50%profit/10d
liauce replied to suny2k's topic in Business Forum
I still take a strong stance against such websites. To me they are just scams. I mean what can be so good in this world. In fact the thing that you are asking can be done easily by almost anyone. Then I think similarly the pay would be too little to notice or else the firm would be running at a huge loss. Whenever I come across such stuff. The first thing I'll do is close the window and blacklist the site. Its simple, I don't feel anyone should be wasting their precious time and their life away on such offers. I feel that such companies should find another way to gather information, instead of using people and not paying them. My friend had one such experience. -
Largest Known Prime Number A very long number...
liauce replied to sonyguy's topic in General Discussion
Interesting. But why have they stopped at that number. I thought the computer might be capble of finding an infinite number one that is close to infinity and keep on finding. Numbers are fun and if you think deeper about complex numbers, real numbers, rational, irrational numbers and the number 0 which the romans never did use, you would see it is really God's wonderful creation. Numbers always puzzle me anyway. -
What Is Singing All About? How to sing? Some tips and answers..
liauce replied to liauce's topic in General Discussion
Up to your imagination what is considered "something huge" to "swallow".On how to increase your rangeThere are many different ways to increase range for different singers, that is, soprano, alto, tenor or bass. However I am only familiar with how to successfully increase a tenor's range up to a high E or even F (beyond the G specified as the highest note in Bach Chorale) -
You are very right Lycon. But in reply to Goosetaf, I think most amatuer or intermediate users will find that Front Page and Dreamweaver can in fact be compared in the same league because we do not explore or use its functions to its fullest. Though I have personally never tried front page, the fact that I am not a supportor of microsoft and also reluctant to change to another program that works totally differently especially since there is no lack in Dreamweaver, I do not see myself making the switch, unless someone on this forum with hard evidence can really convince me.

Mambo... is horrid. I mean its so not user friendly and the stuff is so hard to configure. How do I change the outlook of the mainpage totally. I can't. And the stuff about categories and sections just gets on my nervers because there is no simple way to do it. Its all very repetitive work.Of course the plus point is that the website you build with mambo is VERY professional looking and VERY powerful too

What Is Singing All About? How to sing? Some tips and answers..
liauce replied to liauce's topic in General Discussion
Haha, good question I'm actually studying voice under a local vocal coach and actually still in pre-university school which where I am we call it Junior College. Singing is my pasttime and I sing with one of the best choirs in the world Victoria Chorale. - The webpage of VC - I am also the conductor of my church's youth choir and I intend to do my further studies abroad at Indiana University Bloomington, however, I can't scarcely afford that at the moment. Anyway What vocalist career are you in?? I doubt I know more than you. I would love to learn from you actually To those interested in learning how to sing... You must get a vocal coach, no amount of reading and online lessons will help much. It is only a good supplement. You cannot do without the basic grounding and foundation. I will also tell you why. Everyone is different, has a different body and different strengths and abilities. What you do to make you sound good may be slightly different from what I do to make me sound good. Therefore the vocal coach is there to tell you, hey that's a good sound and then you continue producing it and repeating it. Or the vocal coach may tell you do more of this and more of that and you experiment till you get a nice equilibrium voice that is uniquely yours and the most beautiful sound you are capable of producing. But to identify this most capable sound requires a trained ear. -
thanks, really helps. Now i can finally recover my long lost information in floppy discs.
