Another good and also free graphics editor is the Gimp. I haven't used it before, but I have heard that it has all of the functionality of Photoshop, but not the big price tag.

Now if only I could actually afford Lance's bike.

Which Email Provider Do You Use?
atomicnacho replied to alexia's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I use Gmail and Yahoo. I have two Gmail accounts one spam one professional looking, and the yahoo account that I have had for a long time that some how over the years never managed to get spammed. I really like the new autosave feature in gmail, I can't count how many times I wrote a long email and started doing something else before I sent it then accidentally closed the browser. -
Huge Python Dies Trying To Eat A 6ft Alligator crazy
atomicnacho replied to atomicnacho's topic in General Discussion
I'm guessing that the python must have strangled the alligator first, then tried to eat him but didn't really have enough room. That's the best I could come up with as to why the alligator didn't just chomp the python in half. Also I think that alligators are strong at biting down but have weak muscles for opening thier jaws, so the python can easily hold the alligator's mouth shut. You've probably seen that crocidile hunter guy do it.PSThanks Kubi for fixin' my linky -
I think that things like your #2 are a bit of a consequence of the posting points system. There are a substantial number of people here (myself included) that are trying to build up points to either get hosted or get an upgrade. These people see the first post and maybe even all the other posts and want to get thier post in to get points and ignore the fact that the question was answered already. Obviously it is not as bad a outright spamming and posting nonsense, but I agree that there are a lot of posts that add nothing. It kinda falls under the same category as the "Me too", or "Nice Find" posts. Which I'm sure if I check all of my posts I have a substantial number of. But I guess these are accounted for by the small amount of posting points that you recieve for short posts.my 2?

Trap17 Vs Asta which one do you like and why?
atomicnacho replied to badinfluence's topic in General Discussion
Trap 17 has slightly more interesting topics in my opinion. As many have already said they offer a more broad range of topics. -
Great post. I never knew about the calculator function in google. Much quicker than dealing with the windows calculator for quick calculations.

The setting I use in Style XP is on the Options Tab, under run at startup. I have checked Use No Resources. With this setting I don't have style xp running in the systray, and I have no problems with system resources.
-
I run stylexp on my laptop and don't really notice any performance problems. I have a 1.8Mhz Dothan and 512mb ram. I haven't noticed it taking up that much system resources. I do seem to remember setting something in it so that it takes less resources, but I have not had any problems.

Hey dodger did you ever try either of those. I'm curious as to weather they are good or not, but too lazy to try myself. -

I googled free web hosts and found it. First I ended up at some other site with listings of free hosts and I chose Xisto after seeing some good reviews for it on that site, unfortunatelly I don't remember the name of the free web host site.

Well it definetly seems like an interesting partnership. I never would have expected a web search engine company to eventually partner up with NASA. But I think at it's current state NASA needs all the help it can get.

Build A Computer How to build your computer from scratch
atomicnacho replied to tuddy's topic in General Discussion
I was just wondering why you say a floppy drive was reccomended? At this point I really can't see any reason to have a floppy drive. They just don't seem necessary to me, almost everyone has a cd burner, so you can just make bootable cds. -
W00t - Woot! no not we owned the other team
atomicnacho posted a topic in Websites and Web Designing
I don't know, nor do I care, what w00t actually stands for. There are many historical accounts as to it's origin and actual meaning. All these do is give people with nothing to do something to agrue about. The w00t I'm talking about is Woot!. Woot is a website that provides discounted surplus and reconditioned goods of various kinds. They sell things from computer parts to blenders, pretty much whatever they can get thier hands on. The catch/tagline is One Day, One Deal. Meaning that they have one product on any given day. When a product is sold out, or the day is over that product is no longer available and another product is presented at midnight central time. Some items have a tendency to reappear (dell 5.1 ch speakers usually around 20 bucks) while others are one time only. Most of the computer related products, especially the speakers, sell out ina matter of minutes after they are posted at midnight. If you check out the forums there you will see that there is a culture of people that stay up every night until each item is posted. For all of you graphics gurus I know are lurking here. Woot has a weekly photoshop contest based on one of their items. Usually involves photoChoping a product into some humorous situation. The winner each week gets a $100, second gets $50, and third gets $20. (The worst submittion also gets a boobie prize). Anyone who doesn't know about Woot! should check it out. In the meantime: all your base are belong to us -
Especially with the new systems coming out soon. The prices of the current gen systems is going to go down considerably. I might get an xbox if they get cheap.
-
You're right the core system won't have the wireless controllers or a hard drive. It common concensous that buying the xbox 360 core system is not worth it because it lacks those things.

Logithec Laser Mouse Not so good as they said
atomicnacho replied to sader's topic in General Discussion
The laser mouse has a rechargeable battery and charges on a cradle that acts as the reciever too. The fact that it uses a laser is really just a gimick, it doesn't really make any difference, however the other features that the MX1000 has make it a great mouse. It has 8 buttons, and can scroll up and down and side to side. The software is ok, but the real strength in my opinion is comfort. That's why I bought mine, it was the most comfortable mouse the had all the features I wanted. I find that people either love or hate wireless mice. Most hardcore gamers won't touch a wireless mouse, and lots of people don't like the weight. It just comes down to personal preference. If you like wireless mice the MX1000 is a good choice. -
Another thing you can do is get a tv tuner/capture card. If you do this and you plan on doing a lot of recording of tv (ie you want to build yourself a tivo) be sure to get a card that has onboard encoding. Meaning it has the chip that does the encoding is on the card, so it doesn't stress your cpu while recording. Hauppauge makes some of the best tv tuner/capture cards.
