bah, all of the consoles mentioned in this thread put together can't beat my commodore 64 clone :)Seriously though, apart from being much cheaper, I don't know why anyone with a PC would ever get a console...

If you want to see a warn, look over here!I don't think they ever go down... :)edit: ... where did it go? -
I don't agree with your Classic Rock examplesClassic rock would be all about the 70sbands like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Black SabbathDuring the 80s Rock started to turn into Pop with guitars been replaced more and more by synthesizers.Today anything that is not Pop is called Rock, but for me, it only resembles pre 80s classic rock bands.

don't agreefirst of all 256MB ram is noway near enough if you want a fast system, you need at least 4 times more considering today's standards.but thats beside my point. Something like a 600Mhz , 512mb system is perfectly fine for general computing such as word processing and internet browsing, email and most current and older games. A 200-300 dollar PC will do just fine.Paying a thousand bucks for the latest p4 5ghz system with ati x800 graphics will only let you run Doom3 and maybe make Firefox (note, not IE ) start 1 second faster.

ok, firstly to all the people who said it is fake. I can understand that, since you kids didn't grow up with the original Transformers, (now called Generation 1 because of all the crap continuations they tried to make). Being a total TF maniac, I would no doubt, start making something like this if I had the resources and the time. But also no doubt, there are people who do. Also nice to hear there are some Asimov fans around here. I'm still waiting to start on the last Foundation Book.

[Tech] Blu-ray Disc ... Stores up to 50GB Data
alperuzi replied to rowita's topic in Science and Technology
well, by the time Blu-Ray becomes the standard we'll have terrabytes of data stored in harddisks anyway, so it won't be any different than dvd-r today. However there is a bigger problem. Hollywood decided to go with the DVD Forum and the next gen HD-DVD which stores up to 20GB on a single layer. So if they divide, then sony will lose its movie playing function. Moreover, manufacturers are already picking their sides. For example Sanyo, NEC and Toshiba opted to go with HD-DVD. Hopefully this competition between the formats will bring down the prices -
Alice is actually the best artificial language interpreter out there. I dunno about a forum, but I once hooked it up on Miranda (IM program for those who don't know). People actually believed that they were speaking to a real person. Except ALICE doesn't really understand weird phrases such as the ones used in messaging language and starts making stuff up.

easy, get Spybot and cleans everything right off. Don't have a single adware or spyware on my system. In fact, I don't even see Ads anymore cuz of Firefox's ad-block extension
-
hmm, this would be great, but probably not very possible :)I mean, it would be a first I think, I dunno of any free hosts that offer shell access, not many people would use it though I guess. I would just use it to unrar or unzip stuff cuz I hate upping small files

M Manson is a very smart guy actually if you have ever watched an interview of him, but I don't like most of his songs too.Ok she may not be a "band" herself, but I hope Britney Spears never existed!

Flashget, beats everything I have tried. And has a Firefox extension too!I've used flashget all the way back since it was called JetCar! lol (hmm, before then, there was GoZilla! and before that, there was Getright, which started the whole madness)

well DOS was great for gaming yes. But that was when all the Developers used to write their own hardware interfaces. Now that there is a standard (directX) how can DOS be suitable for gaming? It can't. Actually it can't be suitable for anything really. One point in Saint_Michael's post though, you don't need windows to have DOS. Windows was actually installed on top of DOS, especially with Win 3.1 and Win 95. They tried changing it in 98, but it was still there, just kinda invisible. And totally got rid of it in 2K and XP.Anyways, want a gaming OS? How about the OS in arcade machines such as Konami?

I would disagree with that.Know C or C++ -> you know Java (but never use it )Know java -> C++ and especially C is difficult for you because it is more low level than javaSo it all depends upon which one you start with, and starting with C is much more advantageous.C is the standard for programming today, maybe someday it'll be java, but hopefully not! Anyways, you can't really compare C with Java since Java works in a completely different way.

Budapest is probably the most beautiful city I have ever seen. So if you are going there, I consider you very very lucky.

Windows XP - please help! crashing unexpectedly :(
alperuzi replied to Vacant's topic in Web Hosting Support
hmm, I heard all those symptoms before, but it doesn't fit into context. Do you use any CPU intensive programs? like watching Divx, playing games, ripping to mp3 or the like? Because it sounds as though your cpu may be overheating, although that is not possible if the only thing you do is just browse the internet, word processing etc.If for example, the slowing down problem you mentioned occurs when CPU intensive prog is running (ie. game) then it must be overheating. But if that one prog is internet explorer or such, it doesn't make sense. It must a virus or something similar. -
(slaps head) duh, I missed a "w", sorry, should be working now

Well, there is a difference for this Quake: Quake Developer: id, Publisher: id Quake II: Developer: id, Publisher: Activision Quake 3 Arena: Developer: id, Publisher: Activision Quake IV: Developer: Raven, Publisher: Activision Now let me list some of Raven's products: Soldier of Fortune, SoF 2, Jedi Knight 2, Jedi Academy, Elite Force. All of which are great games, and all using Quake technology (not sure bout Elite Force). And considering id could never implement a proper story into their games (they hired a pro for Doom III, but it still sucked), I think Raven can probably do a much better job, than Quake 2 for example (worst Quake game ever)

bah, ask me...100webspace.com say their servers have been damaged from the power outages caused by the hurricanes. It wasn't even a week before I lost my entire website. And that was just after I reopened it from a large upgrade. I send emails to all the members saying that the new site is ready, the next day it goes down! That sucked big time.Needless to say, the site is hosted in Xisto now. I mean who would setup a server in Florida anyways?edit: my english was terrible, fixed it a little!
