Googlebot attacks? Htaccess To Block Bots
Xarex replied to iGuest's topic in Websites and Web Designing
You could redirect the bots somewhere else or deny them access.Create a plain txt file called: Robots.txtYou will upload this file to your root directory.Add these contents:User-agent: *Disallow: /This will block everything from everything. If you want to specify blocking certain files or folders:User-agent: * Disallow: /admin/ Disallow: /db/ Disallow: admin.php Disallow: config.php Disallow: mainfile.php Disallow: /administration/This should prevent bots from accessing your files. If this is not what you were looking for, as advised from the poster above.. then I suggest you simply get some extra protection for your site.Visit http://www.crawltrack.net/ for more information on advanced protection. -
A site that I used to frequent in my teens when I was a pro at VB was VBForums.com. Endless help there. Also for tutorials, source code, etc. You can visit: http://www.planet-source-code.com/ Amazing site for just about every programming language there is.Why VB 5? The latest Edition is 10. And it's online for free at the Microsoft website. So long as its the Express / Student edition.

I apologize for misunderstanding. In re-reading my reply to your post, I am confused as to why I wrote that. And I think I was working on problem with something else.. having to do with my Mac OS partition and Windows and thought you had a similar problem. There are programs that will make clones / copies / backups of your entire hard drive so they can be moved on to a new partition. https://www.raymond.cc/blog/how-to-create-full-windows-backup-by-imaging-without-using-norton-ghost/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Ghost of course.Google for more.I hope this might lead you in the right direction.

Tutorials are awesome. If you can, I'd suggest to kind of jump right into it. I will admit that I do have some background knowledge in programming -- HTML, VB, Python, Javascript, Java. And as long as you can understand the logic within any programming language, you can catch on very quickly. I picked up PHP in about a week. I'm not an expert, but I learned it by doing a lot of editing and rewriting code that either didn't work or didn't fit my needs and I had to change it around to make it work with my website. While I'm slightly biased with a PHP CMS, I don't have too many complaints and there's a new version that came out. I suggest trying PHP Fusion. It's quite easy to install, setup, and get started. For a beginner, like I was, I got it up in 3 hours. But I was just trying to figure it out. I actually had some problems and learned it so well I am now able to get it up within 1 hour and a full functioning site in about 3 hours.Check out this tutorial I wrote so anyone new wanting to learn and get started do not have to spend hours making mistakes and re-uploading or redoing things.I actually have tried to write this tutorial based on mistakes that I've made and helping you not to make them. You can view it at the other forum here: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/98059-php-fusion-how-to-install-php-fusion/ The latest PHP Fusion version is 7.02.You can download it here: https://www.php-fusion.co.uk/downloads.php?cat_id=23

Best way to make money. Interesting system. You'd think that you could make more money by competition. But in actuality, you'd make even more money by cooperating with each other, sending each others' customers, advertising for each other, and helping each other out. It's like Coke and Pepsi -- which never merged. Then again, probably a bad example, as these are two different companies and two different tastes with many different products. But if the owners got together and partnered and acted like there was competition, both are still gonna make money.Same way I'd think.Google cannot dominate Facebook's social network.Facebook cannot dominate Google's search system. So what do you do? Join forces and make money with each other.I guess Yahoo figures into the system too.But these are the dominant players and they aren't dying -- though Yahoo laid off thousands of workers, so I guess someone is technically losing somewhere.

Is The Forum Loads Slow For Everyone!? [resolved]
Xarex replied to web_designer's topic in General Discussion
The forums are always slow for some reason. Good thing I got hosting with them and the hosting doesn't reflect the forums. So that's a good thing :)But it's just annoying when you're trying to make your posts, interact with others, connect, and you can't load 'em up. I noticed it's the same thing at the Xisto forums. Very very slow.Guess you just have to have patience. HUGE Database it's working with. They ought to condense it or optimise it.. something! -
Make Your Computer Talk. This trick work in all the version of window.
Xarex replied to Omniscient's topic in Software
WIth Mac it's much easier.. just open System Prefs, Speech, choose a Voice, set a key (Alt + S recommended), and select some text, and your computer will talk to you. I use it to read. I think it's an amazing feature, for both the handicap or people whose eyes (like mine) just can't stare at a computer screen for a long time. So I have the computer read books to me. Sure, you have to put up with a somewhat monotone voice, but it's not so bad, and at night, you'll be asleep in a couple of pages -
I love Easter Eggs too. Although I'm not too familiar with the Windows or even Mac ones, Google certainly has some of the best. If you type in what is the answer to life, the universe, and everything.. you get 42. Just many different things to explore. Maybe I should put some on my website!

I definitely don't miss the days when a 256 MB stick of RAM cost almost $50. Now you can purchase a 2 GB stick of RAM for nearly the same amount, maybe around $60 these days.I also don't miss the days of dial-up, where you were in the middle of a download and someone would pick up the phone, and you'd lose it all and have to start over. Those days sucked. You can definitely look at the past and see how far we've come. It's really amazing and sad: Sad because you wonder how you ever made it through those times when you thought you were using the most advanced technology in the world, yet it always got better.I guess it's good, but when you buy a computer or laptop, it's already outdated.I do miss the old days, like Echo_of_thunder said, when I could go into a chatroom and speak to real people, make real friends who actually wanted to talk about where they lived and their lives. And a girl who said she was a girl was actually a girl :PI remember when, although the hard drive was small, max size was like 10 GB or so, and you didn't even think about filling it up. Today, I've got a 1 TB hard drive and a 160 GB HD which are both damn nearly full. But I guess that comes with the download speed technology that we have today. When you can download a movie in 10 minutes, or music in 2 minutes, than I guess you are more prone to doing something like that.Today, we are so impatient about things that we had to wait for back then. I remember when even trying to look at an image of a naked girl.. I had to actually wait for the whole picture to download and the pixels to actually become seen.. ugh, wow. Life has changed. Haha.Good times but just shows you our age, that we know this, and our children will wonder what we are talking about.

Hello,I am definitely a loyal fan and want to remain here and promote this great service, from what i can tell so far from the responses of others. But I've yet to be able to even get started. I've registered my domain name and everything and it's been 24 hours. How long does it take to get set up with everything? I noticed that the server or database can take several hours and sometimes even days to update. But if I'm paying for a year of service and several days are cut off because the server is still in "pending", than what can be done about this? And also, how can I get it finally approved? Thanks.

Small Love Poem Does it suck or does it not?
Xarex replied to harrison858's topic in Art & Creativity
Very beautifully written poem you have there. I hope it's worked out since then! :)I've only been inspired to write a few poems... and if the love isn't reciprocated, it's like the poem is meaningless to everyone else, but only carries meaning towards that one person you wrote it for. You can't really give it to another person because those words don't belong to that other person. So the person you wrote the poem for should appreciate it. I wish the girl I wrote all my poems for.. had appreciated it, but they are just words now. Still with meaning, but not to her. -
My favorite subject was philosophy. I even thought about majoring in it at one time. But what could you do with it? Honestly, you could do a lot with it. I'm sure jobs would definitely hire you, but a minor or double major would be best with this degree. In taking quite a few philosophy courses, I was taught to analyze and think critically, have a debate to the truth, not to win, understand logic, and just basically make friends, but especially friends with men who have been dead for centuries and yet their discussions continue on and on.Although very challenging at times, my favorites were Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Kant, Descartes, Hume, Nietzsche, among many many others. There is just something about questioning life and the universe and everything within. The problem with it though is.. what does it matter? I suppose it matters a great deal. Nietzsche and even Freud discussed what would be an ideal society to live in, and German society was even somewhat an attempt to model some of their works. Even if misinterpreted.I just loved the classes and remember the classes that made me truly think about myself, my life, and my purpose. Those were my favorites.I took a class called Theology and Psychology of Vocation which was very personal, getting me to expose my thoughts, my dreams, my hopes, my everything, and getting me to evaluate my own decisions and needs. I had to give a speech in this class and I did such an amazing job, people for semesters, were still telling me they remembered it. So I guess I want to change the lives of others, and this is the class that was a huge start for me to do it -- my own life and the lives of others.

I went into college as being a Psychology major, changed my major several times throughout my college years, and then just made the decision that I loved psychology. That's what I graduated with from Loyola University Chicago. No regrets. Loved my college years. I think college is an amazing experience. It is expensive, but there are cheap ways around it -- start out at a community college, make the best grades you can, and then transfer to a university and get some grants & scholarships. I got to meet some amazing people, spent some time with beautiful girls (LUC = 70% female). As much as I had a love-hate relationship with college, I think those stressors really build the relationship and make you love the college. Now I'm out of college and I do miss it. I probably wouldn't go back and do it all over again -- as I see some people actually do -- going back for a second Bachelor's degree -- wtf? Why not just go for a Masters? There is a lot of hype and college is definitely a business and a money maker, and will surely put you in debt, but consider it an investment in yourself, as education is the key to the future.

99 Facts About Guys! Believe It Or Not...
Xarex replied to wizardmasteralucard's topic in Dating And Relationships
88. If a guy lets you go, he really loves you.I like that one a lot.I can't say all of them are true. Or at least a lot are just out of balance. But this one... I had been in love, with a girl for a while.. and things didn't work out as I'd hoped. However, my heart always remained with her. And I told her this. I had hoped she would eventually come around, but I could only wait for so long. And I eventually just let her go, which is best. I still love her, but ... if you love something, set it free, if it comes back, it was meant to be. -
It still exists! Still going strong! Haha. Wow, why is it so long? How can it be? Who would've thought? Surely not me! I didn't know it existed, I didn't know how long it could be, but surely, surely, it eventually reached me! I wonder if they were able to make the Guinness World Book Records. Interesting reading of the context because it's not just gibberish. It dos have meaning.

Microsoft Security Essentials Free Is Out Now
Xarex replied to takerraj's topic in Websites and Web Designing
At least Microsoft has finally come out with something to protect their own system with. I wonder if they purposely did not create an antivirus scanner in order to not feel like they were monopolizing their entire operating system, and giving others a chance. They've since come out with antispyware and now antivirus software. It's good. I liked Microsoft Windows programs though they are probably just as effective as the next brand. Don't think they work any better or less than others. -
Top 10 Ways To Break Your Laptop
Xarex replied to FirefoxRocks's topic in Websites and Web Designing
You could definitely punch the screen like below. Leave it out in the sun for too long, or in the freezing cold weather. Perhaps forget it in the rain! Or leave it in a field! Muhahaha! Never happened to me! But I'm sure someone's done something similar. My sister went through the classic.. spilled orange juice all over it and killed it immediately. Asked me why it wouldn't turn on anymore.. or if she could just wait a week until it dried out. Yeah.. might work for a cellphone, but definitely not a laptop, hehe Worst thing I've done is dropped a laptop, but it was my Mac laptop and it survived somehow without any damage at all, not even a sign of any physical damage. I got lucky there! -
It must be awesome to be the team that works on coming up with Google logos and games to put on the front home page. There is always something going on and they have done something every year, and hardly ever, I don't think ever -- is it the same thing. There is always a new logo or always something new that they are doing. So the team that does that must be doing some intense research, brainstorming & creativity, coding, and design. It's always forced me to click if the Google logo has changed and to see what is going on. So I remember the Pacman Google game and that was really awesome. You can actually see how Google has changed their logo throughout the years. Than again, when your a billion dollar company, you better be damn creative! http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

.com domains are the dominant. If you consider starting up a business to profit and you want to get your "name" into people's heads.. you own a .com. You can get away with a .net address though even that is not as effective as a .com name. People will take you seriously and are more likely to visit if they see that .com on the top address. There is just something about it that feels authentic.. probably because it was the very first suffix to be used on the Internet. And going over 20 years strong, it is here to stay! After you've gotten your .com domain, if you want to begin to add these little extra domains (and you should never pay for them, honestly) to your pool ... to increase Google's index of finding your site, or whatever the case may be, than I don't think it could ever hinder your standing. But if you start out with anything other than a domain, it will likely hurt your image or be hard to accumulate any hardcore big fan base of visitors.
