Hurricane Rita Help Me? need site timer to stop
sandbox replied to baphometslayer's topic in Web Hosting Support
Thanks for all the positive thoughts. Fortunately for Houston and me the latest track has Rita moving more towards the east, and keeps us on the western edge of the storm: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Unfortunately this puts other folks more in danger. It's incredible how quickly my anxiety level changes as the projected track shifts just a few 10s of miles. I should be fine with my credits now. The admins would probably be understanding anyway so that's good to know. -
Hurricane Rita Help Me? need site timer to stop
sandbox replied to baphometslayer's topic in Web Hosting Support
baphometslayer, thanks for the idea. I'm in Houston, and my credits are way low because I just upgraded my account. Plus, with the downtime recently I haven't been as good about posting. It's not clear how long the power is going to be off either, so I don't know how many I should save up. If you don't believe me, check out my (very much unfinished) blog PM me if you can help out, thank you. Good luck to everybody in Rita's path! -
Plus, that price is a little misleading because you haven't included a monitor. Granted, most folks getting a new computer will already have a monitor to use, but most dell packages come with a new monitor too, perhaps even a beautiful flatpanel (hands off, it's mine!)

I've been wondering if one couldn't use AJAX to build an online WYSIWYG php editor... http://htmledit.squarefree.com/ was my inspiration, but I haven't pursued it. Does anyone understand AJAX well enough to say one way or the other?

Failed Upgrade Attempt B/c Insufficient Credits? Ive got ~35.5

Wow, I didn't know my posts were that bad... there's not much there yet, but I've started my site at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/, and it is working. I can log into cpanel and administer everything just fine. When I go to the front page of the t17 forums it currently (1:16 am -5 GMT) reports that I have 37 credits, which is consistent with what I would expect. I haven't seen anything unusual with respect to my credits as reported by the forum calculations. Thx. -
Hi xado, welcome! Go here. Click the button to proceed. Fill out the form (it opens in a new window, so look for it under other windows if you don't see it right away). Submit. The script spits out a pre-formatted forum post. Copy it and paste it into a new topic in the hosting forum. Make sure you copy the title, description, and body into the topic submission form. Submit your topic, and then an admin will be notified, and just wait a little bit for it to be processed. The pages I linked to have links you should check out if you have more questions. See ya.

Hey everybody, I just got approved for my account upgrade. Schweet. When I went to submit my upgrade request to https://support.xisto.com/ it said: It's okay to delete everything in my account and simply restore a package 2 image to replace it. That might be the simplest thing. There might be a problem with my install because when I run https://support.xisto.com/ I get: I submitted this error through the suggested channel (support@xisto.com) about 5 days ago, but did not receive a response. Suggestions? Notice from BuffaloHELP: Edited as reported.

Hey snlildude, I tried the links so I could post this review: <snip> t17 rocks. I had trouble with a few services before finding t17, and I haven't even thought about leaving since. I can repeat the praises for their forums. The moderators keep it clean, spam-free, and on-topic, and there's always something worthwhile going on. There's also an rpg built into the forums that is such a bonus on top of everything else. Downtime is handled swiftly. What else could you want? Give Xisto a try, and I bet you will be satisfied. </snip> But they don't work. The first link brings you to a page where there are lots of great t17 reviews (120 reviews, avg score=8.92), but when I tried to add mine there was some sort of form error: So, I guess it sort of works. The second link is simply a dead-end, and I couldn't find a listing for Xisto when searching with their form. Just thought I would let you guys know. Let me know if I can help further.

It would be good to have some official confirmation, but my databases have been restored. I'm noticing in the shoutbox that everybody else is experiencing the same thing. t17 continues to impress! Downtime is a part of any host, especially for one that gives its users so much freedom. I just hope somebody doesn't abuse the freedom and screw it up for the rest of us.

Another option to consider in addition to everyone else's excellent suggestions is that an antivirus scanner is running. If this is the case, then your hard drive behavior is expected. You can schedule the scans so they run at night or something. Otherwise I would recommend taking a look at the msconfig startup tab (start->run-> then type "msconfig" without quotes, then go to the startup tab). Take a look at the paths to all the processes that are checked in the list to see if any of them look like they don't belong. If nothing pops out at you in msconfig you might want to boot in safe mode. Go start->run-> msconfig -> I think the place to select safe mode is in a "boot" tab, but I'm not sure. One of the tabs will have a checkbox where you can select to boot into safe mode. If the problem doesn't occur in safe mode then you can rule out a hardware issue at least. Good luck! back up your data...

Free Google Page Rank Check. A tool to check PR without visiting site
sandbox replied to sunny's topic in Search Engines
Wow, are you sure? I mean, google has their own firefox extension that shows pagerank. It is still in beta, so maybe they will withdraw it eventually. For convenience, do you have a link to the TOS that you're referring to? -
Hey Dooga, I understand you just fine. I give you a 95%. Tell your teacher they wouldn't know effective communication if it hit them in the face. Or...Seriously, though, you're teacher might have a grudge against you or something.Otherwise...For tests where you have to write correctly the first time through, the best thing you can do is make an outline of your essay on scratch paper before you start on the full text. For essays where you have time to work on it on a computer, try writing in stages. The first time through an essay write your thoughts down as they come into your head. Don't worry about how it sounds. Don't try to make it coherent, just write/type as fast as your fingers can keep up with your thoughts. If you get stuck and you can't think of anything, sit there quietly for 2 minutes, and if nothing comes to mind just get up and walk away. Come back to it later that day or the next day.Repeat as necessary to get all your ideas saved. Save your work, and then go do something else for a while. Then read what you wrote and try to group ideas together (cut and paste and/or copy and paste). Often times you will clearly see where things need to be added or removed at this stage. If you have to add anything, continue writing in free style. Repeat as necessary to group and compile the main points of your essay. Don't worry about the flow of information yet. Just try to get a coherent description of your thoughts on each sub-topic. You can worry about connecting the ideas together later. Do something else for a while. Then, come back to your essay with a clear mind. Try to connect the sub-topics together in a way that is interesting to you. This is one of the hardest parts for me.At this point you have a good first draft of your essay. Do something else for a while.Next, come back to your essay, but try to imagine that you were raised by wolves, and you don't know anything about anything (but somehow you can understand English ). The goal is to try and express your ideas as clearly as you possibly can. Many times it is difficult to communicate because we hold assumptions that our readers do not share. Some assumptions are safe to make, but it is a good practice to keep track of them, so that you can be specific about your meaning when you feel it is necessary. This will take practice. If all else fails, there are lots of papers you can download off the net...j/k.

Free Google Page Rank Check. A tool to check PR without visiting site
sandbox replied to sunny's topic in Search Engines
There's also an unobtrusive firefox extension. You have to actually be visiting the site for which you want the pagerank, so it's not exactly what these sites do. It just sits in the status bar and graphically represents the page rank as you browse the net. Also, if you're worried about google keeping stats on the pages that you visit you should only turn on the feature for the pages that you want to check. It's really easy to turn on and off though, you just click on it in the status bar, and it's a tiny icon so it doesn't take up much of your firefox real estate. -- T17 rules! -
What Is Neuro Linguistic Programming Ill tell you...
sandbox replied to Pdrive's topic in General Discussion
Hmm, interesting topic. I get creeped out when I hear hypnosis and body language as a means to influence people. Maybe if you have their permission, but otherwise I don't that kind of power. I know I wouldn't want to be under any one else's mind control unless I agreed to it for some reason. The description you gave of NLP suggested it would help you aquire any skill. Do you have any examples of skill aquisition for things like helicopter-flying or karate chopping or how to sing like frank sinatra? I guess from your description it sounded like that tech they have on Morpheus's ship in the Matrix movie. -
This Is Question About The Site ??????
sandbox replied to shadowdemon's topic in Web Hosting Support
woah, you might want to slow down a bit. mySQL is a database, not a scripting language.PHP is a scripting language. Typically you write PHP code to store and retrieve information from the mySQL database. You don't put scripts in a database. The scripts are stored just like any other file within your website directories. PHP script files are named *.phpI agree with ciroxyz that you should install one of the pre-packaged php/mysql applications to get yourself started. You can use those tables and scripts to jumpstart your website. To install these packages you should probably use "Fantastico" in your cpanel. I hope this helps. -
It was an AMD K6-2 400, I think. If it was a p4 I might have given it back to the guy! Can you imagine? Um, excuse me sir. I believe this is your computer. Are you sure I can have it? Okay, so I'd probably keep it, finders keepers and all.

Disctionary Site my native language(Myanmar) driven
sandbox replied to badinfluence's topic in Programming
Hi, this sounds like a cool project. It's ambitious though. The dictionaries that you have--are they electronic? Are they in some format that you can parse? I imagine that you might need permission from the publisher to do that, but I don't know. They might be interested in having an online version of their dictionary, so they might work with you. Once you get the entries in a database and you have permission to host it you can look at making an interface to it.The database schema would be very simple if you just wanted to query with a word of one language and retrieve a list of words in the other language that match. I'm used to coding in ASP, but there are a lot of PHP folks here that could help you out. Full dictionary entries for each word could also be done. I don't have experience with handling the different character sets, but maybe that's not too hard???Full translations would be tricky, as was mentioned, but in my experience most of the automated translation services are awful anyway, so maybe you wouldn't have to do too much extra to get that working too. -
Further down the article it says the top speed is 200 km/hr. ...yup, not enough toes for that one either. Google has lots of toes, must be the o's... https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=conveG=Google+Search ~134 mi/hr Maybe it makes a great whooshing sound too.

It sounds like your code has absolute links to Xisto, so have you tried doing a sitewide search and replace (Xisto -> Xisto) to change all those liniks to Xisto? It sounds like you've already migrated the actual database, but maybe not. I've never tried this tool before, but it looks like it might help you. It synchronizes two remote mySQL databases: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ There's also an article describing it here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

okay. Again, right on! I'm so glad you're neighbor was looking out for you, but it sounds like you handled him showing up at your door perfectly. The restraining order is a good thing to have, even though I know you don't want to have to use it. It's clear from his behavior that you may need it. You might want to switch your cell phone number too, but depending on the situation that might not help.

Have You Ever Been To The Rocky Mountains? Have you?
sandbox replied to wild20's topic in General Discussion
I've heard that the appelachians are also very beautiful (Rockies are more west coast). They're an older mountain range, so they're easier to navigate through. Notice from BuffaloHELP: Edited as per request
