Astahost is by far the best community driven webhosting. It is not free actually because you have to write for them in order to earn credits, which can eventually be used to pay for your hosting needs, but for most people it is the way to go. You don't have to pay anything in cash (though you can do this if you want) and that is why often it is called free web hosting. In reality it is a community driven hosting where a whole community participates in creating valuable content. The content is published online and serves ads. The revenues coming from the ads are used for all purposes. You said you are new to Xisto. I must tell you that you are at the right place to start your online business. Their service is extremely good and so is their customer support. It won't take you more that two or three days to get an issue solved and this is a huge bonus to them. What I like about Xisto is that I get credits for what I have to do. I mean look, if you are having trouble with some computer related stuff, you will try to find a solution through search engines. If you are unable to find the solution this way, what options do you have. You have to post your problem on some forum to be answered by other users. It is the only way you can solve intricate problems for free. The Xisto community has some very experiences users like @starscream and @Bennet etc. They are always besides you to help you solve your problems. And in addition to your valuable answers, you get credits for you questions. Yes, you get credits for your questions, in fact anything you post (as far as it is not against the TOS). So I think it is the best way to start your business when every penny counts, and Xisto is the best place for it.You mentioned that you have heard some rumors about deduction of credits every year. I have also heard such rumors, which say that it becomes harder and harder to earn credits as the post count of a user increases. Although there is no official denial or acceptance of this, by my experience I can tell that the difference is very small if any. I still get about the same number of credits for posts that I used to get about a 100 posts ago. Yes I do see some decrease but the point is, when you get used to stuff here, you can write more and more easily. When you become an expert, you will find that you would be able to post solutions, not just questions. And consequently, the number of posts you can write will increase significantly. I would like to hear from Xisto officials on this.

What Cms Are You Using And Why? Looking for the top CMS

From your conversation, you seem to be very enthusiastic towards your website, which is a very good thing. I have created a lot of blogs on a lot of different services. Most of them, I use for marketing of my primary website so that it gains more exposure. There are also a lot of SEO benefits I am recieving. Yes, it is very hard to keep all the blogs updated with new original content but I do get the reward for my hard work. My primary website does rank well for a lot of important keywords because of my efforts with these blogs. You mentioned that your forum is for music lovers. Although I don't have any interest in music or writing about music, I do have an interest in gaining blogs from a number of different domains. As you mentioned that you do allow your blog users to post about anything they would like, I you can allow me to post about anatomy stuff, I would surely like to create a blog on your website. Please give me your response on this. Well, that's really engaging. I am really impressed with your creativity. Especially the prizes that you have decided for the points. I would really like to become a member of your website but again, the porblem is that neither do I like music nor writing about it. The only way I can become a member is that you allow me to create a blog about human anatomy. I would get my benefits as well as the enjoy the prizes you have decided for your users. What do you exactly mean by a VIP section. Do you charge your users to view this section? If yes, then it must satisfy your customers. I don't think Adult links is a good idea on a website for music lovers. Why not consider placing some special music or history of music or other related stuff. I think your website is new, and if I am right, I must tell you that according to my experience, you should start small. Don't just let your efforts spread too dilute. Keep them concentrated on one topic and when you feel you have established yourself as a reliable source in that particular niche, advance to the next. This is the easiest and the best way to become successful online. Wordpress is a great platform for people like you and me who don't have huge money to invest. The best part of it is that it's open source. Which means that we don't have to pay anything to get involved. The other reason, why I like wordpress is that they have a good community. They make developments quickly and new updated versions are published every now and then, Thus the websites which use wordpress are safe from attacks by different types of malware. Lol My website has been live for about one year. It wasn't there when your were in college. -

The idea behing your website seems to be wonderful. It would be great to have such a website where every one can share their views about music and artists. You said that you want every user of your site to have the capability to blog about their new or existing favourite artists. What do you exactly mean by this. Are you going to let them create blogs (as subdomains of your main domain)? Or you want them to guest post to your main blog. Both of them have thier own pros and cons. The major problem with letting users create their own blogs as subdomains of your main domain is that they will have to spend a lot of time designing their blog, which most likely they won't like and you might loose your users. On the other hand if you allow them to guest post to your main blog, you will find it difficult to arrange things in order once you get a good user base. The idea seems to be wonderful but the bottom line is that you have to really work hard on that. I don't have much knowledge about php fusion. I have never used it. In fact I have never used any other CMS besides Wordpress. You said that the script that php fusion provides is quite buggy. If it is so, I will recommend you to not use it. Bugs will waste a lot of your precious time. The time that you can invest in something more useful and fruitful. So my advice is that you just let go of php fusion and invest your time in something which would provide better results. I have used wordpress as the CMS for my website (Human Anatomy) and it has been very successful for me. Actually, at first I didn't know about the existence of Content Management Systems. I had my website designed in dreamweaver where I have to manually create the layout for every page. It was a terrible job and I had to spend more time designing my website than actually creating content for it. I was heading no where with my website but then a member of this forum (@starscream) suggested me to use a CMS instead of manually creating my website in dreamweaver. I took his advice and made major changes to my website. I shifted to Wordpress. Ever since, I have more time to create actual content and I don't need to design every page of my website. I just designed my website once, and it took about a week to finalize all the design details. After that I make minor changes whenever necessary, and the website is performing well. You talked about buddypress that it made your website problematic. I did and experiment on buddy press to check its functionalities. It was good and I had no problems with it whatsoever. So may be you are not installing it correctly or the plugins you are using have bugs in them. You should use only established plugins that are recognized and recommended by other users. Don't just use every one out there because a lot of them are buggy. Joomla and Drupal have nearly the same functionalities as wordpress. Though I have never used any of them, I did perform a lot of research when I was transfering my website to a CMS. In my research on "The Best Open Source Content Management System", I found that wordpress is by far better than Joomla and Drupal. The major reason for this is that the wordpress interface is so user friendly that even your Grand MA can create a blog with it. On the other hand, Joomla and Drupal are not so easy to learn and that is why most people don't use them. Yes, there might be some specialities of Drupal that wordpress don't have and there might be some feature of Joomla that are exclusive to it, but if you are looking to create an orthodox blog or website, your first choice should be wordpress. Now that's good news. I am glad to hear that you finally sorted it out for yourself. Although I have never heard about ocportal, after reading your post, I can definitely say that it is a good CMS for forum type social websites. As per the list given by you, it has all the features necessary to create such websites. I would like to know more about quality of their scirpt. Does it run well? Does it have any bugs or other issues? As I stated about, I have a short but good history with CMS. It is wordpress that really worked for me. My website is http://www.mananatomy.com/. -
Facebook is a brilliant website and is rightfully famous throughout the world. If you look at its design, its behaviors, its features, its power as a social tool, everything is so wonderful. I know facebook was not the first website on earth that made social activities possible on earth. Before it, a good number of websites did exist such as friendster, myspace etc. But these websites were not very user friendly, they were not full of features, they were not innovative. What facebook did was it took advantage of human's behavior of sharing stories with people. Stories of today's age are in the form of videos, blogs, websites etc and at facebook you can share these with your friends in a very sophisticated way. That's what is so special about facebook.Other social networks, which emerged after seeing the success of facebook and knowing the power and importance of social networking, might be equally as feature full as facebook but they weren't able to set a standard. They are providing a service which is already being provided. Google buzz is one of the services that emerged after facebook. It is also very feature rich and has one huge advantage of being integrated with gmail, but people like to use facebook more than any other social network because all their friends, their relatives, their neighbors, everyone is on facebook. So they can socialize there. However, on sites like Google Buzz, the user base is not as vast as facebook so people can't share with everyone. And one additional thing: people don't like to use dozens of social networks simultaneously. They have more tendency of clinging to one and getting more familiar with it.

Tips To Decrease The Bounce Rate
Ahsaniqbalkmc replied to Ahsaniqbalkmc's topic in Websites and Web Designing
So you mean that in addition to a search engine readable sitemap, I should have a user readable sitemap as well. Although creating such a sitemap shouldn't be much of a problem, but if I apply this to myself, I don't remember going through a website through its sitemap. And because I don't use it myself, I think others won't use it as well. That is the main reason why my site currently has no such sitemap. After reading the above paragraph, I can now conclude that there are some users who do go through a website by sitemaps and I should create one because there is nothing to loose and a lot to gain. But again, I have to do something with the links in my sidebar. In the previous post you mentioned that such sitemaps can be an alternative to CSS menus. I ask how? Even if I create a very sophisticated sitemap, it still can't take the place of my sidebar and I should do something to make my sidebar more user friendly than just being a long list of links. I need your comments on that. That sounds really nice. The image maps would be perfect for my website. I will certainly try to learn more about them and create them wherever I can. So this is one way of making the menus more SEO friendly. What I got from reading the above paragraph is that by creating rel attributes for links, I will simply tell the search engines the class to which the link belongs. The available classes for me are "section", "subsection", "chapter" etc. Let me first tell you a little detail about the pages of my website. If you visit the Skeletal System of my website and see the sidebar there, you will see that it has a lot of links. The links are divided into categories like "Bones of Upper limb", "joints of upper limb", "Bones of Lower limb", "Joints of lower limb" etc. Each of these categories has its own list of links. What I can do with CSS menus is that only the categories "Bones of Upper limb", "joints of upper limb", "Bones of Lower limb", "Joints of lower limb" would be visible in the sidebar in normal state. When the user hovers his mouse over say "Bones of upper limb", the list of links containing clavicle, humerus, radius, ulna etc will drop down and user can navigate to any of them. Now what rel attributes should I use here for the child links of main categories. Should the be "chapter" or "subsection" or "section". So you want to say that I should have a pdf version of my website for sale at scribd.com or other similar services. I seems a good enough idea but the problem is that my website is not complete yet. And in its current state, I don't think I am going to make much sales. Furthermore I have one other question. Users are very smart nowadays. To do research quite a bit before spending their money. So why would a user pay money for a pdf version of my website when it is available for free in the html format. If I were the user, I would never buy such a pdf. -
Tips To Decrease The Bounce Rate
Ahsaniqbalkmc replied to Ahsaniqbalkmc's topic in Websites and Web Designing
In my case, there are lots of links to be contained in the sidebar. Sometimes, the sidebar becomes even longer than the main content of the page itself, really unprofessional. So I have to find some solution for it. In my opinion the CSS dropdown menus are the best solution I can have. By using the drop down menus, the sidebar will become much shorter and in addition to the benefit of getting a professional look to my website, I will have more space for adverts. Links belonging to one category will be placed under one heading and when a user hovers his mouse over the heading, the complete list will drop down and then he can select any of it. It seems a nice idea but the SEO implications might not be very beneficial. I have read a lot of posts saying that because CSS drop down menus have to essentially clutter the links over one another, it gives a false impression of being a link farm to the search bots. I am really afraid of this and its the only thing which is keeping me from creating these menus for my website. I really care about the SEO perspective because about 80% of the traffic to my website is search traffic and this hugely depends upon the SEO factors. I don't get this. You say have a sitemap. I already have one. In fact everyone has a sitemap. How can I use it to simplify the navigation of my website. I think you have mistaken my explanation of the links of my websites too far from one another. When I said that to go to a target page, often three or even four clicks are required, I meant this for the users, not for the search bots. So even if I create a very expanded sitemap, which I already have, this doesn't make any difference in the user experience of my website. It will only facilitate the search bots to index my website more correctly.I am not familiar with image maps. Please explain them to me if you can. Also explain the statement "and use a "rel" tag to tie it to the main page". I don't get this. Well, as I stated above, about 80% of the traffic coming to my website is from search engines, I really care about the SEO perspective. It is crystal clear that search engines don't like framed pages. So there is no way I am going to leave my current navigation and go for framed ones. And even if I go for framed pages, the problem still remains. I still have to do something to shorten the length of the sidebar because of great number of links. So that is not a solution at all. Now this is something I should really care about. I have researched a lot about the impact of links exactly within the content. All the major search engines don't give much weight to recurring link patterns such as the header, sidebars and the footer. On the other hand, they do give a lot of weight to links in conspicuous positions within the content itself. Not only this has a hugely positive impact on the SEO, it also increases the Pageviews per visit of the website, which in turn increases the chances of making good revenues. This is something I should really study about but still, I can't ignore the sidebars. Although search engines don't give much weight to them, users still do. Almost all users are accustomed to navigating through the sidebars. So an effective sidebar could simply mean more pageview per user. Thanks for the appreciating words my friend. I am trying really hard to make my website a masterpiece. I know the content is very technical, but I can't make it private. In such case, I will have to face a lot of competition. People are already paying money to more sophisticated sites for such technical content and it may be harder for me to compete such websites. On the other hand, the websites, which provide free technical content are not of much competence and thus it is easier for me to get famous. Once I am firmly established in the field, I can think of charging people to view the technical content, but for the time being, I am not going to even think about it.However, I would like to know more about Scribd. I have never heard about them before. So if you can, please discuss more about their service and what exactly do they do. That's a bit concerning to me. Not because you are not viewing my ads, but because I don't have any technical information about what you are saying. What exactly did you mean by the statement "with NoScript" running in default-deny mode, I don't see any ads". What is NoScript and what is default deny mode. Please explain these to me because I really want to know about them. -
Are There No Mycents For "how Tos And Tutorials"?
Ahsaniqbalkmc posted a topic in General Discussion
Yesterday I wrote a tutorial "How to hide control panel items". In the tutorial section, it is stated as a guideline that the posts there will only become live after they are approved by the moderators. My tutorial is live and you can see it here, which means the it has been approved by the moderators. Ironically, I am not seeing any increase in mycents. This is leading me to ask the question whether there is any value of these how tos and tutorials as far as mycents are concerned. -
On a number of different occasions, people need to hide the control panel items so that anyone who uses the same computer won't be able to make unnecessary changes. It must however be kept in mind that even if the items are not visible, changes to computer settings can be made through different sources. But still, if the subjects from whom you are hiding the icons are non-professional and don't have much technical information, you can successfully achieve your goals. The ideal scenario would be the case of a father hiding "Add and Remove Programs" icon from the control panel so that his children cannot delete any necessary applications. There are a number of ways in which this effect can be achieved. Let me explain them one by one. 1) By using third party applications The easiest way to hide control panel items is using 3rd party tools like "Tweak UI". All you need to do is download this little tool and install it on your computer. After the installation is complete, run the tool. You will see a window as shown below. On the left hand side, there are different classes of settings and on the right are the values. When you select the "control panel" option in the left, you will see that the right side will show the items of the control panel. Just uncheck the items you want to hide and you are done. 2) By changing the group policy In the start menu, click on run. Type "gpedit.msc" and press enter. You will see a window as shown below. Go to "User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control Panel. You will see a number of different options on the left side. Double click the "Hide Specified Control Panel Applets". A new window will appear where you can edit the options of the command. Enable the command by selecting the "Enabled" radio button. Then click "show" button and add the name of ".cpl" file of the respective control panel item. Click "add" followed by "ok". Apply the settings by clicking "Apply". Confirm by visiting the control panel. 3) By Adding a Registry Value In the run utility of start menu, type "regedit". The Registry Editor will open as shown in the image below. Go to "HKEY_Current_User > Control Panel > Don't load". Right click on the right side of the window and create a new String value. The name of the value must be the same as the ".cpl" file of the respective control panel item. After naming the entry properly, double click on it and enter "No" in the Value Data textfield. Click "OK" and Restart the computer. 4) Through Command Prompt This method is actually a duplicate of adding a registry value but in this case, instead of windows explorer, command prompt is used to create new registry values. Open the command prompt by typing "cmd" or "command" followed by enter in the run utility. After the command prompt opens, enter the following line of code and press enter. reg add "hkcu\control panel\don't load" /v [name of respective .cpl file] /t REG_SZ /d NoThe red add command is used to create a new registry value. The next portion of the command tells the system to create the new value in that specific location. Normally we don't wrap the address in quotation marks but when the address contains spaces, they are used. The /v parameter is for value of the new registry entry. It should be the name of the corresponding ".cpl" file (without square brackets). /t parameter is for type and /d is for data.

Well that what we call exaggeration. I don't agree with this bit, though the remaining post was good. I would like to prove my point by illustrating the example of Google.Lot of people think that Google made the internet a better place. I don't have similar feelings for Google. In my opinion, it was internet that made Google what it is today. If there had been no google, someone else (most probably bing) would have been the prime search engine. And any company generating as much revenues as Google can develop very very quickly. So in my opinion, the world would have been the same but instead of Google, someone else would be knows as The Internet Giant. If you compare the two most popular search engines (Google and Bing), you won't find much difference between their results. Both perform nearly the same. Google is used more by the users because it has a reputation behind it. What made Google a giant are the steps taken correctly at correct time. The major development made in search industry by Google was the introduction of an algorithm that gives more weight to off page factors than on page factors. In this way they were able to manipulate websites in a more accurate way, which cannot be easily tricked. The end result was great user experience that was much ahead of its competitors. The reputation made at that time brought huge revenues to the company and consequently it expanded tremendously. Like a vicious circle, more development brought even greater amount of revenues, which were invested properly and now Google is a big giant that is very difficult to defeat. On the other hand, competitors of Google like yahoo and microsoft search, which weren't smart enough to introduce a good algorithm lost their share of search market continuously. Yahoo, which was almost entirely based on its search marketing had to shrink only to US. Eventually it was taken by microsoft. Microsoft, in contrast to yahoo, was not dependent on search marketing for its revenues. The major part of them came from their software. Microsoft invested the revenues generated through other sources into the search market and the end product we see is Bing. Though bing is very smart, may be even smarter than google, it doesn't receive much share of the search market because of Google's reputation and a countless list of promotional products. Though the search market share for bing is increasing regularly (a worry for google), it may take many years for bing to surpass Google. Had it been the scenario where Yahoo created the algorithm, which was actually created by Google, the Giant of search market today would have been yahoo. If Google wouldn't create the algo then, someone else would have done it, may one or two years later. So the bottom line is that because Google is smart and it has a huge reputation behind its name, it doesn't mean that the internet would be a less beneficial place without it.

Lately, I was reading an article in which the three giants, Microsoft, Apple and Google were compared with each other. There were some interesting facts stated on that article. One of them that elaborates the brilliance of Google was that Google is the youngest of the three giants. It means that Google has earned a reputation in about 10 years, for which the other took about the double. The author presented a beautiful distinction between the three companies. According to him, the three might look similar but their foundations are entirely different from one another. Apple is more of a hardware manufacturer that tightly controls the software to be used on their hardware. Microsoft on the other hand is more of a software manufacturer that doesn't care about the hardware as far as the users run software manufactured by them. Different from both apple and microsoft, Google is an advertising company, which gets most of its revenue through search advertisement. To increase their advertisement revenues, they develop lot of different software and hardware but the primary goal is not to become number one software manufacturer or number one hardware manufacturer, it is to increase the advertisement revenues. Each of these has some products that Glorify their name. For example Apple has iphone and ipads. Microsoft has windows and Google has their wonderful search engine.

My website "MANanatomy.com" is about the anatomy of human body. Anatomy is a basic medical science that deals with the study of structure of human body. Thus my website explains the structure of human body in a technical way. It is very helpful for medical students and professionals who need quick information on anything related to Human Body Anatomy. Anatomy has three major subdivisions: Gross Anatomy, Histology and Basic Anatomy. Correspondingly, my website is divided into three sections. The Gross anatomy is addressed in the section named "Body Systems". Here the gross anatomy of all systems of human body are explained. The Histology is addressed in the section "Histology". Histology is actually the study of microscopic structure of parts of human body and that is what the corresponding section of my website explains. The third section is "Basic Anatomy", which explains all the basic concepts required to understand Gross anatomy and Histology. It introduces newbies to the terminology of anatomy and teaches them how to learn it. All the content placed on my website is very technical. It is written for professionals, however, anyone needing any type of knowledge about human structure can benefit from it. There is another section that I added recently to my website. It is the Q&A facility known as "MANanatomy Answers". Here the users who need to know anything related to human anatomy can post their questions and get them answered by the administrators and their fellow users.

A few days back, I was searching for facebook alternatives that are open sources. I website mentioned a few good one including elgg and buddypress. I chose buddypress because of its association with Wordpress. I understand Wordpress core enough to perform the necessary changes so I thought it is better to go for something which I already know about. I installed buddypress core and I was quite happy about it however I had to abandon the installation because I couldn't find a way to add facebook style video sharing feature to buddypress. After that I installed elgg but I had the same problem with it. The video sharing feature was so important for my project that I abandoned the complete project.

Hello!I am using Xisto's Logic plan, which by default offers 10GB of bandwidth. On the page where I ordered the plan, It was stated the the bandwidth limit can be upgraded to as big as 1024 GB. My website is currently performing very well. It has used up 50% of the allocated 10GB bandwidth in 10 days so I need to buy more bandwidth. I submitted a support ticket on this issue but instead of upgrading my bandwidth, they misunderstood me and gave me additional mysql databases and parked and addon domains.I need just to upgrade the bandwidth limit and nothing else. I have updated to support ticked but i got no reply from them. I don't have much time before my website will consume all the allocated bandwidth. As it is stated in the plan that the bandwidth is upgradeable up to 1024 GB, there must be some procedure of doing it.Please explain the procedure so that I can upgrade the bandwidth limit to something like 50GB or 100GB.

For me, Google's official forum is a great source of knowledge. This is possibly because I am not an expert yet and consequently I don't understand the tone of replies made by people there. But a man with such vast experience as you can not be wrong. However, I would still say that as far as I get something to learn from them, they are good for me. Your discussions tell of your experience in online business. I have had a lot to learn from you and still I am learning a lot. I think I should be more careful about discussions related to adsense. As you stated, for someone whose sole earning is adsense, getting kicked out is the worst nightmare. I logged into my Google Webmaster Tools account and found that I have no crawler errors, however I was stunned to see something else. You would remember the time when I was asking about the best software to design websites and you suggested me to go to a CMS instead of designing a website myself. At that time when I made all the changes and went to wordpress (a very fruitful decision indeed (thanks to you)), I made a few redirects. I copied the content from the old pages of my frontpage designed website and pasted them on my new wordpress based site and created corresponding redirects in the .htaccess file.Today when I logged in to my Google Webmaster Tools account, I am seeing some of those redirected pages shown to me as "404 Not Found". I don't understand what happened.

Tips To Decrease The Bounce Rate
Ahsaniqbalkmc replied to Ahsaniqbalkmc's topic in Websites and Web Designing
So if Google or any other search engine starts taking bounce rate into account, then according to our discussion, my site will be in a more positive position than current. Do you want to say this? If so, it is very good news for me. However, since you have been helping me from the very starts, I would like to take your suggestions on decreasing the bounce rate. You mentioned that the navigation is clean enough to not cause any bounces but what about some drop down menus. I read a lot of articles quoting drop down menus as a "no no" stuff. It was mentioned at a lot of places that search engines don't like pages having links cluttered at one place (a necessary effect created when CSS is used to manufacture drop down menus). What are your thoughts about it. Do you feel the same or you have to say something else. I think that with the addition of drop down menus, the users will have more choices to make and thus potentially it can decrease the bounce rate. I would quote an illustration here. The page "body-systems" of my website has 12 children including "skeletal-system", "muscular-system", "nervous-system" etc. Each of these pages has numerous other children. For example the skeletal system has children: arm bone, leg bone, hand bones etc and muscular system has children biceps, triceps quadriceps etc. Now if you are on the page "leg-bone" which is a child of "skeletal-system" and you want to study the "quadriceps" muscle, you will have to click at least three times that is you will have to go through at least three intermediate pages. This is a major problem in my site design. The only I idea I can think of to reduce the number of clicks required to go to target pages is CSS drop down menus. However, I am reluctant to implement them into my website because I have heard alot about them being NOT very SEO friendly. The javascript menus are also stated as not SEO friendly by many bloggers. So what do you think I should do. -
Tips To Decrease The Bounce Rate
Ahsaniqbalkmc replied to Ahsaniqbalkmc's topic in Websites and Web Designing
That sounds really nice. However, I will try this only as the last option because currently I am in some sort of financial crisis and don't want to loose even a single penny. Once I make all other things clear that can possibly cause a high bounce rate, I will try removing the ads for a few days only if I haven't achieved my goals. In my opinion, most of the people try to gain knowledge. They are even willing to work hard for it if it is not easily available. If you need to learn something that can benefit you, there is no reason you won't spend a good amount of time looking for it. I am sharing my personal experience with you. Sometimes when I really need to know something and especially when that something is not very popular, I spend huge amount of time looking for it in the websites. In the process I visit websites that are not designed to be very user friendly, but I spend a good 4-5 minutes on it to look what I am looking for.The main power behind users looking for content is their own need. No matter how luxurious your website is or how easy you make for users to move through your website, if they don't need to look for something, they simply won't visit the website. For the same reason, websites, which target very specific content on every page tend to get a higher bounce rate. The reason is that all other content presented in well designed navigational menus is not what the user is looking for and he simply would go back after getting what he came for. -
So this means that I don't need to worry about the crawler errors. I have posted many times of Google's official forum about this issue but they didn't reply. All of the other issues that I posted on Google's official forum got good responses. I read a lot of blog posts, forum entries, and comments etc about the harshness of google. I think it is a matter of past now. Google is much more softer nowadays. One reason of it can be the growing competition with bing but the fact is that Google is not as harsh with adsense publishers nowadays as it used to be. I think if I had made the mistake of publishing my adsense values publically two years ago, I would have been banned.

Tips To Decrease The Bounce Rate
Ahsaniqbalkmc replied to Ahsaniqbalkmc's topic in Websites and Web Designing
The actual bounce rate of my website in the previous month was 76%. According to your discussion, this must be a good number, however, when I search on the internet for looking about average bounce rates of normal website, i find that 76% is a very high value. It should be about 65% at most. That is why I have a little concern about it. I am displaying a number of adsense units. This might be one cause of high CTR values and most likely if I remove the ads altogether, I might be able to get a bounce rate of around 60%. But the main goal of my website is to earn revenue from google adsense. Therefore I have to find a way to make the bounce rate as low as possible with my site displaying adsense ads. You mentioned that boring navigational menus can be a cause of it. I don't understand what is a boring navigational menu. Every navigational menu must contain lots of links. It can't contain videos or images to make it entertaining. So what actually do you mean by a boring nav menu. -
Tips To Decrease The Bounce Rate
Ahsaniqbalkmc replied to Ahsaniqbalkmc's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Well, I am using wordpress and as you know, it is a very popular CMS which keeps the style and content separate from one another. The navigational links, are a part of the style of the page and are repeated on every page. Thus I can rightfully say that I am not having a high bounce rate because the navigational menus are not present or are not visible. In my opinion, there are two possible causes of this high bounce rate. One, that I am using a good number of ads so people who find it annoying, bounce back to search engine results. The other is that because the information is very very specific, there are very little chances that a person looking for a specific bit of knowledge is going to click any other link in the navigational menu. May be making the navigational menu more prominent helps a bit but I don't think it will drop the bounce rate by more than 3-4%. I need to know the root cause. -
Lately, I was reading a newsletter about potential use of bounce rate values by Google to reorder the SERPs. A very beautiful illustration was quoted in the newsletter, in which the author asked to imagine the readers to be in a position where they are given the job to rank pages for a search query. He said, if you find two websites getting the same number of clicks in the search results, but users tend to return from siteA back to search results, however, they don't return from siteB to search results, which one should be ranked higher?. Obviously site B should be ranked higher than site A. Although google has a huge asset in the form of Google analytics, to see these values for almost all website, Matt Cutts has clearly said that currently Google is not taking this into account. However, Google's panda update suggests that it would not be long before bounce rate values will be taken into account for calculating the SERP.The bounce rate of pages of my website is on a higher side. I know that the main reason for high bounce rate is the niche to which my website belongs. In such niches, people tend to look only for certain type of knowledge and don't view related pages. But I still want to know the tips or minor adjustments that I can make to my pages to decrease the bounce rate.

I have some pages on my website (Human Anatomy) where there is a long list of links in the sidebar. I will give the example of the page "Basic Anatomy"(along with all its children) where you can see a huge list of links in the sidebar. Sometimes the content of the page is small and the sidebar is too long that it even roots below the main content, giving a very un-pleasent and non-professional look. I want to make the sidebar a little smaller in size, although I cannot reduce the number of links. The best idea i can think of is a CSS drop down menu. In my case the menu will be "Side pop" instead of a typical drop down so that a group of links belonging to one category will pop at the side when user hovers the mouse over the category name. It sounds very nice and my website will get a good professional look with it however, there is a serious problem. I was searching for the seo impacts of drop down menus, and unfortunately, I didn't get very positive results. Every website, every article I read, stated in one way or the other that drop down menus harm your SERP. The reasons given there included 1)links cluttered together in a short space might give the appearance of link farms to search engines. 2) Increased number of links per page would dilute the distribution of PR through the site. 3) Search engines don't like these menus Now I have decided to wait a bit and research further on the implications of these menus, If they cannot bring me enough value, I am going to stick with the non-professional long list of links in the sidebar. However, if I can find a solution that neither affects my SEO nor gives a non-professional look, I will be the happiest man on earth. Please share your ideas with me.

Thank you for your advice. I was thinking the displaying only click rate publicly can cause problems. I was not aware of the fact the effective cost should also not be disclosed. Here I find it relevant to ask whether the use of terms like average, above average, very low etc is ok or not. I don't think there is any problem in saying that the click rate on my website is low or is good etc. I don't get these errors regularly. I check on them every day and find that they keep on increasing and decreasing. Since the robots.txt is fine and the relevancy of ads is normal now, I don't think I should do something. I am afraid I would do some harm to my website as I did when there was an intrusion to my website through some script.

I have noticed this problem with adsense ads many times. I researched on it a lot and found that the reason I am not getting very relevant ads is that there are not enough ads in the adsense inventory related to human anatomy. I checked the number one website for the search term "human anatomy" in both google and bing and found that they are getting ads similar to what I am getting. I have also checked a number of other website and found the same results. So this definitely means that there are not enough ads in the inventory to be displayed. Moreover, a part of the adsense ads depend upon what you have been searching lately. If you are searching for ice cream machines, you are likely to recieve an ad related to ice cream machines even on a website which has nothing to do with it.

Google adsesn is performing quite well on my website. Most of the time my ecpm is above $5, and I guess it is a good value. Although the niche I am working on doesn't have very relevant ads, but the ones displayed on my website perform average and thus have an average CTR. Recently I am having a little problem with adsense. Though the performance hasn't dropped nor has the relevancy, I am seeing a lot of crawler errors in my adsense account. The worrying part of it is that these errors keep on increasing with every passing day. They are currently about 101. The reason for these errors is stated to be ROBOTS.TXT file however, my ROBOTS file is configured to allow all sorts of bots to the website.I need to know some things about these crawler errors.Number 1: Obviously the first thing I need to know is that why I am getting these errors. There is nothing wrong with my robots.txt file and I am sure about it. I have posted on the official google forum but they didn't reply so I thought the next best place to get my answers is Xisto.Number 2: How can these errors affect the adsense performance on my website. As these errors are keeping on rising, I am worried about the performance of my adsense ads.Number 3: What are the possible options with me to get these errors solved. Thanks in advance to all those who spend their time to read this post and answer it. Check for my website in the signature.
