When is NumLock-caps lock- Scroll lock on?

For this hold down Num Lock for five minutes, then Windows give you a message, click ok.

After this, when you hit NumLock-Caps Lock, you can hear Beeb from your system

I am just wondering what this would accomplish. What would this do once they are on, or what extra functions would be available to the user if any?

What soleimanian is talking about is something known as ToggleKeys in the Accessibility section of your control panel. You can turn this on or off as you please, although it's not five minutes, that's just insane but it's actually five seconds. There's a lot more functions you can check out in the Accessibility section of you control panel that can help you navigate your computer.

 

You may not be bugged by this option if you've told Windows to not do this when a similar type message popped up. I can only confirm that this works with XP and not any other version of Windows.

This shortcut has been in Windows 98 or maybe even before that, I'm not sure as I have not used any version of Windows before that. It still exists in Windows 7, and I suppose it is useful if you don't have indicator lights to see if your caps/num/scroll lock button is turned on (for instance, my laptop only has an indicator light on the caps lock button itself to indicate that status of the button).Usually though, you'd notice if caps lock was on or not, as for num lock just start typing in numbers in the num pad in any text box to determine the status of that. As for scroll lock, I believe the only common program to support that is Microsoft Office Excel. I just noticed that I don't even have a scroll lock key on my laptop.

i always think having an indicator LED for caps and num locks is essential... although some would disagree... on my laptop there's none for either (maybe in Netbooks its fair to say not having them is part of it's portability design)although on my Laptop Windows XP has a pop-up warning saying CAPS ON/OFF and NUMLOCK ON/OFF but most of the time i never notice it

Because it vanishes rather fast. I have it on some apps, but not in firefox.And of course you really need it while typing passwords.

exactly... that's probably one of the most annoyance i come across... typing in passwords not realizing i mistakenly hit Caps instead of **** grrrr lol

On my keyboard I have a little led lamp, which is green when num lock is on, another led lamp for caps lock, which is also green if it's turned on and the same for scroll lock, so it's quite easy to notice when it's on or off.The same is with my laptop, it has a rather cool led lamps which indicates if those buttons are turned on. Moreover, I have logitech keyboard and mouse suite installed and I always get a notice on the screen whenever I turn them on or off, but personally I disabled the caps lock as it's usually just a pain for me.In addition about disabled buttons, I also have disabled insert button, as it's also a pain whenever you accidentally push it

how do you disable insert?? i usually remove the key off the PC keyboard lol that's one annoying button which i can't recall if i have ever put it to use at all

Yes, logitech keyboard and mouse suite lets you disable required keys (caps lock, num lock, insert, windows left and right keys and etc.)

But usually, on windows it can be done through registry, I found a topic about it:

With it you can map any key like you want and change your keyboard layout

I don't understand why anyone would disable Insert, it doesn't do anything except in Microsoft Office Word and OpenOffice.org, but it's not like you're going to type anything more than a few words at most without noticing. I am unsure of every keyboard layout from every manufacturer, but I can't press it accidentally easily from any keyboard I've ever used.Also, I miss my context menu key! There is none on this laptop

Shift-insert is also needed.You copy some text from a Crosoft Word text, and you Shift-insert in order to paste it inside a "putty" ssh remote terminal window. Right-click does the same thing, but it's not easy to righ-click in the precise place, without left-clicking in the wrong place first, which re-selects and makes you place garbage. Unless you never work with a multi-windows/multi-machine environment, copying from somewhere and pasting somewhere else?

I personally never use shift->insertBut insert button works everywhere, in IRC, Skype, this forum and in an IDE, not only Word?I use delete button a lot and sometimes you just push the insert button instead, so if I never use it, why would I need it. It just makes problems for me, but I didn't even know you can shift->insert something. What's the difference between ctrl->v?As I understand shift insert, ctrl insert are old stuff and later it was replaced with ctrl v and ctrl c?
