How To Change Windows Xp Language ?

Replying to wischi

Sadly just setting your language to the preferred one in <control panel> <regional and language settings> will not do. All this does is lets you see JUST the date in your language and maybe show currencies and time related info as per the language you choose. I havn't found it to do anything else.

After going through numerous forums, I've seen that there's perhaps no way around this problem other than re-installing your system with the preferred language version of windows, which means you have to shell out more money.

Thank you Bill!

To change the whole system language you should install newer service pack with different language.

For axample if you have XP SP2 in ENG and want to have it in Italian, you will have to download SP3 in Italian, change some registry keys (go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMControlSet001ControlNlsLanguage registry key, and then change the value date for ?Default? and ?InstallLanguage? registry value from 0409 to 0410) and you'll be able to install it in Italian.

If no problems occur, you will have the whole system language changed. Here is the list of numbers that represents each language in registry:

Ok...... Find an English computer...... go to a torrent site......download an english version of windows in an iso file..........burn it to a CD with ImgBurn........Put it in CD-Drive......turn off laptop....turn it back on.....it should boot from CD.....install windows english.... If it's not booting from the CD, try changing the BIOS settings. Also, try the Regional > Language thing.

I can confirm that this does work.  I was tasked with troubleshooting a mahcine for work tat came from a client office in Guatamala.  I applied SP3, changed the registry keys as stated to 0409 = "en-us;English (United States)" and everything is working fine in English.

I did this but got this error ::::

Service Pack 3 Setup Error

Setup cannot update your Windows XP

files because the language installed on your system is different from the update language.

and I got this extra bit of information about the control pannel from this site

Mydigitallife.Info/2007/12/14/trick-to-install-windows-xp-sp3-rc-in-non-english-language-editions/

To change the system installed locale language, run Registry Editor, and then navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMControlSet001ControlNlsLanguage registry key, and then change the value date for ?Default? and ?InstallLanguage? registry value to ?0409?, which represent US English.

Then, open Control Panel, and open Regional and Language Options. In Regional Options and Advanced tabs, set the language to English (US) as default format and language for non-Unicode programs. Click on ?OK? when done, and then reboot the system.

Try to install the downloaded XP SP1 setup package. It should beAble to install without any error now. If you still get theIncompatible language prompt, try to restart computer into Safe Mode and try to install SP3 in Safe Mode.

havnt tried it yet but it makes sense coz I screwed around to muchWith the regional settings b4 I found out about changing the regeditAnd had the problem error when installing the xp sp3

I should be able to fix the reginal settings now and it should work
