master_nero 0 Report post Posted March 23, 2007 Back in Windows XP if you were not on a domain CTRL + ALT +DEL would open up Task Manager. In Windows Vista that key combination opens the secure desktop that allows you to do many more thing. To directly to Task Manager, hit CTRL + ALT + ESC. wutske 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2007 Doesn't work here, it only switches focus between several windows, probably because I'm not using the taskmanger but ProcessExplorerNT. It's provides a lot more information + it resides in the system tray, so I can have at a single click .

iGuest 3 Report post Posted March 19, 2010 the good stuffKeyboard Shortcut To Open Task Manager Directlyyou could always just play with the key registry a little bit. Just as you can disable the pesky windows keys for FPS, you should also be able to create custom key combinations to open up whatever you want. -reply by yjuiro
magiccode91405241511 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2010 It is an addition to what the all pros above already said. When the welcome screen of a Windows XP was disabled.Pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del would no longer show up the task manager, but instead it show up the Windows Security Dialog Box.Just as windows 2000 do.The Welcome screen will disable also when computer was joined to a domain.Eric
yordan 10 Report post Posted April 20, 2010 and I would also mention that the Ctrl-Shift-Escape does absolutely nothing on my Vista system, and it definitively not opens the task manager.

yordan 10 Report post Posted August 2, 2011 OK, so...This topic is not concerning a new tip for Vista, it's a standard Windows feature also present in XP.Not only the starter topic gave a false keystoke combinationbut also it was something classic I did not know.(sigh)

yordan 10 Report post Posted August 3, 2011 hehe i've always used it for killing freezing processes, quite handy reallyReally nice.I used to press Alt-Ctrl-Del on frozen computers, which is quite dangerous because it sometimes reboots instead of showing the menu "Start Task Manager"Thanks for that advice, I will try it next time my game freezes my mouse.
