nightfox1405241487 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2007 Ok, I just had to do it. My (quick) review on MySpace. From a technical standpoint:I have never seen a network that is so poorly designed that the "load balancing" doesn't even work. I can't tell you countless number of times where I've been directed to down servers or VERY overloaded servers. Sometimes, I'll get stuck in a loop of overloaded server or down servers. I thought load balancing was supposed to AVOID this? It's also poorly coded. Have you ever watched your system use more CPU power to load a really overloaded profile?? Next is the errors. I don't know the cause for the errors, but it is far fetched. From end user standpoint:The interface is.... not usable. Ever try to log off and notice there is no logout link or the link has moved for the 5th time in that DAY?From a stalker standpoint: Best website ever! I think even PRIVATE profiles can be viewed via Google's Cache. Nice going, Tom... treat a search bot as a "friend".Personally, News Corp. only cares about $$$$ from MySpace... Customer Service doesn't even take notice to anything bad or offensive on public areas. They simply could care less.[N]F
richierich1m 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2007 Obviously myspace has a lot of problems but isn't the myspace was first to provide so many great features and but i agree that they only want to earn quick money and don't care much about user experience and who knows google may expand orkut and make all the features of myspace as well as other innovative feature available at orkut
Saint_Michael 3 Report post Posted January 10, 2007 What shocks me is that myspace is still operating after all those cases of pedophiles and stuff, of course you don't hear to much about the families suing myspace about what's been going on.Then of course the fake profiles, phishing, the spoofing as well. Let not forget the ridiculous load times because people got like 100 video's and songs loading at the same time. Hopefully it is just not me but I have to log in twice, just to check to see if any trap or Xisto members have joined. :)You should see the myspace sucks websites that are out their even funnier then the paypal suck websites . beatgammit 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2007 Yeah, I too hate MySpace. I keep mine around, but only check it when I get a message or a friend request (both of which are usually spam). I have a few friends back home (I am currently at college) who use MySpace and not Facebook. Facebook definitely wins by comparison. Facebook has a lot of stalker prevention built in where profiles cannot be seen except by being a friend (or limited profiles, whatever the user decides). Facebook also does not let the user add content like videos or scripting to their pages, thus reducing the load times and also the risk of "contracting" a virus. My roommate's computer was hosed due to MySpace profiles.MySpace is also poorly run. They try to do too much and don't try to improve their features. PureVolume wins in the music arena and Facebook wins in the networking arena. Facebook is now adding band profiles (I believe), so that may impact MySpace's dominance. MySpace has become a playground for pedophiles and stalkers. I have seen many a child-molestation program on TV where molesters found their victims through "social networking sites", which invariably means MySpace. MySpace had good intentions to start with, but their business practices got way-laid by their greed.True, it's fun to edit and customize your content on your page, but there are so many "better" ways of doing it. Have it be controlled by the "hoster" where backgrounds and css styles can be edited without letting the user add javascript functionality into their webpage. If the user wants extra content, they can add from a list of supported add-ons. This is the way social networking sites should work, and that would NOT reduce the individuality of the page; rather, it would increase security and load times of each individual page. Thus, the juries must agree, MySpace sucks. kgd2006 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2007 Myspace does have it problems but it has already established a foundation for itself and is to this day making for features available for the community. There wasnt a day that I didnt run into the myspace sent error page, but I still use it because its the only networking website that allows me to connect to friends that I have long since talked to. It provides a community and continues to improve over time. It is understandable how they could be recieving so many errors, its because of the mass traffic they recieve each day. That mass amount of traffic will eventually lead to glitches in their system. Not everything is perfect, and we just have to accept that. Myspace has been a reliable source for me thus far as for communicating with old friends and getting myself out on the web. I personally use myspace as a form of marketing for myself, because I noticed that even employers are searching secretly to see what type of person you are. But that feature has recently been closed off to them since users now have the option to put their profile on private. Leaving their curiosity a fray.Hopefully in the near future myspace can finally fix its errors and maybe provide the good service that everyone been waiting for. Everyone should keep in mind that this service is FREE. So Im happy with myspace as is, but also will be happier if they somehow fix the traffic congestion on their servers. Chesso 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2007 I do not favour myspace or the majority of any of it's clone sites.MySpace in particular, most definitely needs an overhaul and needs to take more control over user content (so it doesn't brake everything or blow your bandwidth out on one pageload, and also not blast your ears off with what some people may classify as music rofl!).My misses used to use it but hopefully she's out of it now, all she does is get older men from all over trying to chat her up online (what is wrong with these weirdo's lol). Arbitrary 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2007 I truly do not like Myspace much at all. Its code is probably the only thing that I can actually criticize about the site (it's un standardized and I would've thought such a popular site to have better code, then again, Google has the same problem...). The rest of the its problem probably lies with its userbase. Â I find myself cringing quite often at the two to five YouTube videos that can pop up on a Myspace page. Or perhaps the gaudy music ringing in the background, and some eye-killing color combinations (like bright yellow and dark black) and listening to my computer make screechy scratchy noises as it attempts to handle the gargantuan size of the Myspace page. I sometimes wonder if all Myspace users have super fast computers or something--how can they stand to wait for their profiles (or that of their friends, for that matter) to load while their computers freezes and dies on them while attempting to perform said action? Â And of course, the userbase seems to enjoy screaming and yelling at each other and getting into flame wars every two seconds. I visited their forums once or twice and gods, was there a lot of swearing and mean folk waltzing about. I fail to see how Myspace is an ideal place for social networking--it's more of an ideal place for social antagonism. Â And the place is a mess when it comes down to spam! I have a test account up there and the amount of spam I receive far exceeds that of the amount of "regular" mail I receive. There's a bunch of advertisements for random things going around here and there and inviting me to come (and some of these things really aren't appropriate...so just how the heck is Myspace okay for anyone under eighteen?) I really don't think it'd be that hard for Myspace to start working on a spam filter and perhaps start kicking out some of those fraudsters and bots. Â Another thing that bothers me about Myspace--it apparently censors words out of entries and forum posts. I don't remember the exact words that it censored, but I think it had something to do with a rival company's affiliation. Now I just find that to be rather pathetic. What in the world is wrong with saying a rival company's affiliate's name? Where exactly did free speech and the first amendment run off to? Of all things Myspace can do, this one I find the most annoying.
sparkx 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2007 Myspace? Now why in the world would you "want" to post your personal details on the web? I won't even tell yahoo the town I live in. I think myspace is just a fad and eventually will just die out and people will think "I can't believe I ever did that" and there kids will say "Man you were stupid". I don't even know what people like about it? Probably made for people too nerdy to get freinds regularly but then everyone wanted to use it for some odd reason. I can't get my freind off of it and I don't know whats so great about it. I have tried everthing, but I'm not to worried about him, if a stalker ever comes to his house the stalker would probably leave in a cop car or worst. Luckly for the stalkers 80% or more (I don't know for sure) of the kids will add anyone because they want the most "freinds" on there list. So in the end I think nightfox says it all, myspace is a stalkers best freind: From a stalker standpoint: Best website ever! I think even PRIVATE profiles can be viewed via Google's Cache. Nice going, Tom... treat a search bot as a "friend".If you would ask me, NEVER get anything like myspace. It doesn't matter if it was made by a 20 some year old kid (Tom) or a microsoft engineer. Personal space is not a way to make freinds. If you wan't to make a blog about yourself, don't use your real name (rather a nickname that your freinds know you by) don't put your real age (add 1 or 2 years, don't set it all high or people will think you really are a stalker) and last DON'T post a picture of yourself, house or school on the web! Thanks for reading and sorry about spelling (opera spell check has and "error"),Sparkx
sujith 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2007 Another MySpace hater here: -The site is poorly designed - As the network is big, they don't care about it anymore - Very Very Inefficient serversBut as they are pioneers in this they will survive ($$$and cash $$$$$)I am on Orkut user and I love it eventhough it has less features than Myspace
xboxrulz1405241485 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2007 I do not like MySpace due to its inefficiency too, there's just too many ads in the website. As people already compared it to Facebook, Facebook doesn't have huge ad banners, and it doesn't try to be the next Google for social networking sites.Facebook, HI5, Facebox and even Orkut is better designed than MySpace. These social networking sites aren't just a fad, it is here to stay actually, as a teenager myself, these websites are actually fun, you can keep up with what's your friends are up to, these sites also allow you to create plans together, get to share things, write whatever you want (like a blog), message others, leave comments, join groups which you are interested in and etc. These sites have their purposes, but people exploit them though.xboxrulz
t3jem1405241533 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2007 Myspace is not that great, but that is the only site my friends use so thats the only reason i keep it. There are many "fake" people on there and that's why i only add people i know in person. I can see how easy it would be for someone to get personal information on someone though because most teens these days don't see how important it is to keep private information private. It is also hard to customize your profile, you have to have some knowledge of web programming to make it look good even with the generators.
Chesso 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2007 I don't see a problem for myspace as a way of staying in contact with friends online that you actually know, but it's the worst place to meet new people (or one of the worst).
deadhead44444 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2007 Myspace... The downfall of websites for teens to go on. Schools now block it everywhere, people stalk eachother through Google's cache, and spammers have taken control and cracked the code. What once used to be a friendly website for comments and custom web pages, have now turned into a disgusting and vulgar webpage for stalking, soft porn, and sex offenders. The alternative Facebook is much more friend oriented, and is friendly overall. No stalkers, because only people from networks you belong to can view your page. Purely genious the way facebook is set up. Myspace has dominated the web in the past few years, but you can expect the tides to turn slowly towards facebook. MYSPACE............ BOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Chesso 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2007 That facebook sounds allright, but when you get dumb kiddies allowing even dumber (in there own way) people to take a looky...... thats when it all happens, .... ahh well.
