Are Dolls Affecting The Minds Of Young Children? (Warning: Content may offend ladies)

Recommended Posts

Not reading to closely, the just I get is it is better for parents to brainwash their kids then some commercial entity. To this I agree. As for dolls effecting kids minds ask why don?t kids grow up to be barney? I think it is important to be able to teach the kid to think beyond mimicking some behavior. As much as people would like to raise kids to have their identical values, I think it is more important to raise them to make informed choices. A smarter kid may not care to blab on the phone about there so called drama.

These dolls scare me. I think that they should all be burned in my opinion. Seriously have you seen some of them. Take toy soldiers for instance. Or better yet chucky. Need I say more.

On an interesting tangent, if Barbie were scaled to full size, her measurements would be: a bust of 36 inches, a waist of 18 inches, and hips of 38 inches. I personally think that the dolls are demeaning to women and provide an unrealistic standard of beauty. (Even the cliche, chauvinistic 36-24-36 is less extreme than the dolls' figures.) Do you have any thoughts on G.I. Joe-type ("ultra-masculine") dolls and their effects on little guys?

GI Joe the musclehead can't be good for little boys. They'll end up drinking raw eggs, working out 24-7 and only eating energy bars/red meat. It's negative.Another thing I heard about Barbie is that, if she were real, her waist would snap in half from the wright of her boobs. Has anyone else ever heard this?

whoa.. that didn't need to be said 0-o. anyways... when barbie was first created, it was made for older girls who didn't want to play with baby dolls. they just want someone to dress up, but back then, no one expected it to effect 6 or 7 year old behavior. seriously. they just want money. instead of money, they should get... i don't know... a life?

You know what guys? I'm a girl and I agree! What ever happened to those baby dolls? At least those are nice for creativity! They make the child know how it's like to be caring and loving. (OK, most of the time)But those teen dolls. Those are just trends. They do nothing useful but make the girls more vain. Plus, they're giving the wrong impression. What matters is not the outside appearance, but the inside! Yeah, you may look pretty, but you're a brat, a mean girl. No one likes mean people that are vain. Some people may like people like that, but they just use them to their advantage, it doesn't exactly mean they like them for who they are. They just like them to take advantage of them. The dolls these days make the children fantasize about becoming an adult. What about having fun as they are? Children!(OK, I'm 14, but I understand what's happening. Just because I'm a girl, doesn't mean I accept every "girl stuff" as right!) -_-

And I can't believe Hillary Duff supports Barbie Dolls! Damn her! Is she trying to make children look like... (WARNING: This word may offend some viewers) SLUTS? My cousin's daughter is only 5, SHE HAS HER OWN PURSE, LIP GLOSS, FACIAL AND HAIR KITS AND EVERYTHING THAT TEENS HAVE, but in mini version. Pfft. Damn the doll companies! Lol, Kelly Potty Training, I saw this BOY buy one. Must be desperate to find out how a girl pees.

I agree with the fact that dolls give an enormous impression on little toddlers, with their big busts and flashy clothing, but it's kind of 'tradition' if not 'normal' to have a doll. I mean nearly all little girls have had one and the not all of them have turned into 'sluts' as they've grown older. It's kind of a phase.. Everyone gets over dolls some time in their life, whether they are really young or really old.

It's funny though how all these little 5 year olds dress up and think they are really mature and act as if they are older than they are. I had loads of barbie dolls and 'Kens'. And well I have to admit.. I had a bit of a dirty mind, LMAO. -_-

Anyways barbies are just TOYS ... yeh.. just TOYS. I mean no one complains that ACTION MEN influence little boys to play with guns and kill bad people. There's always something to nag about... I mean next you'll know.. we'd be saying teddy bears are dangerous because the stuffing' could suffocate babies.

I may not be a girl, but dolls are a little weird. I mean, I know this from when my sis had some, but they had no underwear, not even painted on. Ken had no *bleep* and there were too many clothes. I usually found a barbie shooe at least once a week lying around on a floor, before my sis just put them all in the attic (and the people rejoice). so dolls were actually used by indian children to simulate grown up life and trained them for when they were adults. Dolls are weird, but at http://www.strangedolls.net/ they have a whole bunch of messed up dolls that you can buy. Those are the only dolls I like a little bit, though.

Besides most dolls being used for sending a bad example for a future generation of kids, they are also annoying. Every time I see a doll commercial [ whether it be Barbie or Strawberry Shortcake or whatever ], I just change the channel or shake my head in some sort of disgust. The worst doll commercials must be the BRATZ dolls. Now those are just whack. These are probably the big contenders when it comes to "infiltrating the minds of young children with teenage angst". The same goes for GI Joes and boy "dolls" as well [ if you know what I mean by boy "dolls" ]. They send a message that they should be carrying around weapons, that they should get beefed up, and other trivial little messages. I'll admit that I had a GI Joe, but once I was old enough to realize that it was notonly boring, but also useless, I threw it away. Not all kids will get effected by the dolls and "GI Joe" figures, but I think many willbe exposed to some of the messages they send.

Well, I think that anything in moderation can be a good thing if used correctly. Little baby dolls for kids is a good thing, because it helps to nurture the mothering instinct of little girls. However, I do not believe that children under the age of 7 or so should be allowed to play with ANY kind of makeup (kiddie or regular) without constant supervision. Otherwise, you end up with kiddie nail polish all over the family cat! lol Anything of a normally neutral nature (i.e. dolls) may be used to affect a mind for good or bad, all depending on outside influence (i.e. parents, tv ads, etc). Personally, I don't think that young children should be deprived of little baby dolls to play with. I do believe, however, that these little Bratz dolls, and their ilk, are nothing more that commercialism propaganda to buy more stuff to go with the dolls you've bought. Not cool. Now, some may say that Barbies fall in the same category, but I still play with my Mom's Barbie with my little cousins and stuff. Barbies, I think, are the quintessencial doll for anyone. I personally still collect some of the ethnic varieties and the like for display purposes. So, basically, what I'm trying to say is that dolls can be helpful or they can be hurtful, depending on how the little child is taught what they are for.

I played with dolls as a child. None of them really looked like me. Im so glad there are dolls there are more representive of little girls around the world. It upsets me that dolls are still way too skinny, it doesnt help with girls self image. Of course it takes more than a doll to destroy a childs self esteem but it doesn help when they look anorexic and dress like tramps so they can get the guy.

whatever happened to cute little dolls and you just carry them. Where you see a little dangling her barbie or ragedy ann on her tiny fingers.... lol. I think those barbie dolls represent the innocence of a little girl. Now until they came up with Bratz some kind of trashy doll making girls jump to "puberty" faster. lol. They're trying to make little girls grow up to be "Mean girls" like from the movies and stuff. That's no way to be teacher our younger generation. Its those parents that don't care and buy their daughters these things. We need more responsible parents. Like the ones that block bad rating tv shows and the one that install kidpatrol on the computer to protect them from porn or whatnot. Of course they're annoying but the dolls need to go away especially the Bratz one.

Dolls were around back then. From simple baby dolls, to the extravagant hourglassy-figured dolls of today. Dolls are to help stimulate the imagination. Back then, it was to help children develop a sense of caring, now, the popular dolls stimulate the children to imagine being a teen, having a boyfriend (Ken), and being a snob.It just evolved the wrong way. *sigh*
