Bypassing Filtered Sites Getting around your admin

Recommended Posts

I decided today that i was sick of my filter at school.

Usually i would abide the rules but today the fillter whent too far, looking for people who cheated in the

Olympic games and it wouldn't even let me search the topic.

Bypassing was the only way.

it just pisses me off that the tool that they have given us is so restricted that it is usless.

So im sending a big F you :) to the people who made Bess.

If you have a good unblocked proxy list it here.

Does your school block google? for example, try to use use google translate as a proxy? Just translate a page to English and it will be something like a proxy? :)

A good way to get around filters is to use a proxy server. The problem is that many free public proxy IPs are filtered also. One way of getting around this is to setup your own proxy server on your home machine. There are several open source projects on the web that will allow you to do this. Install the proxy on your home machine and then add the proxy settings to your school browser. I will be just like surfing at your home computer. An added benefit is that you can password protect your proxy so no one else could use it. I would highly doubt that your school would filter private ISP address. The down side to this is there is quite a bit of setup and configuration to do on the home machine, I would only recommend this to experienced users. Also you may have problems with a dynamic IP on your home computer, especially if you have DSL. There are also site on the web that will help you get around this. The upshot is it will work every time, from everywhere, is cheep, good bandwidth, and you are not at the mercy of public proxies.

There are certain proxys that can be accesed like w00tage but anything that transtlates pages is blocked. The other one i found was a leet translator for pages but reading leet for ages gives me a headache :P the main thing is that the word dosn't spread that this can bypass filters. Because if the n00bs that look up porn will get it blocked because they dont errase history. tansqrx i think its a really good idear but i cant do it.

There are a number of ways, you could do a google search for free proxies or you can set one up yourself with a hosting account. You can find all you need to on google.
Another way is to use the ip addresses, ping the domain name and it should come out with the ip, then put the ip in the address bar (for example: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/). I would go with setting up your own private proxy because you are pretty much sure that it wont be blocked.

A good proxy site is apoxy.tv But I'm not sure if that would work for your school. Try easy-prxy which is pretty good. A response to Hellfire: How do i ping the domain name of the website to get the IP Address? Also, is there an open-source script that I could use so I could host it on my website?

Bess blocks IP and name values.

99.9% of all proxy sites are BLOCKED by Bess. I have a proxy for those special times but it's password protected and I give my friends accounts so they can use it.

Quatrux, Bess also blocks translators due to this reason.

**HINT!!** Bess will allow you to view SOME sites cached by Google!! This works well with free host blocks and generally anything else.

If all else fails, find your school's service provider or main server room and beat the Bess server with a sledge hammer. Bess is the only dog I wouldn't mind getting run over on a highway.... :P

Anyway, noddy, Bess will also find keywords in searches as well. "cheaters" or "cheat" is probably a keyword in your school's keyword block list.

So I got this proxy site up on my website. Even though it got me to myspace.com, I wasn't able to login. Is there a good open-source file that allows this to happen? Maybe a site that allows people to login. I know there are a few but they've all been blocked.

This will never end.I've had it at my school for years, and as time goes on, they keep adding more and more to the block list. Recently we got a new service- I'm not sure if it's still N2H2 or not, but it's called Smartfilter. It's even worse...In the past, I found some gems for bypassing the filter, but word eventually got around (and as you probably know, the more people using something, the faster it is detected.) It's really a pain. I don't believe in censorship this radical.Example: I tried to go to the PETA (animal rights group) website, where you can learn about the torture of animals by food corporations. This is education. It's the truth. Unfortunately, it was blocked by the pigheads at N2H2.All we can do is whine about this. There's no help if you can't arrange one of those proxies through a private computer.Oh well... misery loves company.

Well, since you're not exactly doing some illegal, couldn't you just ask the system admin? Of course you could spend some time looking for unblocked proxies, but if all else fails and you're not doing something furtive...go bother them. And in the mean time, I suppose you can also tell them to look through their list of blocked sites and see how many of them are silly or pathetic. In reality...I don't use my school's library computers that much; mostly just to print out assignments that I forgot or don't want to print at home. But my school has a second computer lab for those taking programming classes...and by gods are those annoying. We can't check our email; we can't view tutorials (school related) other than the ones hosted locally. I keep on thinking about using proxies...but then they're all blocked, and getting caught means getting a horrible grade in the class.

I agree, the fact that tax dollars invested in education are being wasted on school internet. we onky get a half service and some of the sites that really matter are blocked. :P today we went back to school in south austalia and not to my surprise my favorite proxy(dead) is filtered. This is a harsh move because only three people were using it and we were using it for good.
