The Big Bang Theory

Recommended Posts

I was upset to see someone write that they couldn't believe in the big bang because they were christians. Spiritual beliefs have their place in the spiritual realm, not accessible to reason and observation. Science and technology does great in the latter. To be conistent, a noon-believer in the big bang or evolution, would have to not believe in his car, computer, and electricity.

ANTI MATTER AND GOEDELS THEOREMYes Dorothy you can kiss Santa and any other aliens you encounter. The universe has almost no anti-matter. Why that is has had physicist scratching their heads for years. If there were equal parts of matter and anti matter then it would be a lot less hospitable to life. Maybe it has something to do with dark matter and dark energy.Someone else earlier in this thread pointed out that some things are unknowable. You will be happy to know that this was proven quite generally by Goedel in the 1930's. It actually is quite profound. It is related to recursiveness, things referring to themselves. In a nutshell it says that any sufficiently complex system can generate theories that cant be proven or disproven. For example, the idea of knowing yourself can't happen because that self that knows you is no longer you. Think about it, the words are hard.

But can't you bend things without actually ripping them? and even if you do manage to figure out how to rip something, can't it be possible to close (or patch) back up? Man! would I love to go back to the turn of the 20th century! I love that era. Silent movies... gentlemen and ladies... ahh, the good old days...

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

But to go through something, you would have to rip it. Like, if you wanted to go through wall, you would have to break it. You gettin' this? Anyway, I don't think that you can "patch up" space-time. What would you patch it up with? And, after the universe got turned inside-out a few times, everything would be destroyed. You wouldn't have time to "patch it up". So there.

hm, i don't think we 'll ever be able to look at the past. that would imply that we build an incredible good telescope on a planet far far away, we travel there faster than light and then we take a look at the earth with it. the light takes a while to arrive there, let's say 50 years. i don't think it's possible.the ones that saw paycheck... well i think that has more chances in succeeding, even though they mix it up. they say you'd be able to see the future, but instead, you'de be able to see the pastif you bend your view around the curve of the world, you'll see yourself. but the light takes, let's say 1 minute to travel that far, so you'd see yourself one minute before you were looking. let's say you bend the light one million times around the globe, than you'de be able to see one million minutes in the past. a strong telescope would be needed indeed, and something that bends light.timetravelling... i don't think so. you'de have to reform the universe and stuff...

This a very interesting thread indeed, i am still at a cross roads on what tio believe, i have my own sorta version of what has happened and that is a really big theory and a lot of paradox ideas (non-ending). I believe that some sort of big bang happened and that there was something maybe not a god but something that triggered it but then also how do you know this isnt the matrix or some game that is always on? Have a think about that.

i believe in a combination of physical powers and a lot of coïncidence rather than in a god or a power that controls it all.things that i wonder about: how far does the universe reach. and what's outside of the universe? is the universe like a globe on the night closet of some giant creature? hehe. we think we're rather big, but that's because we compare it with other creatures in this universe. i guess we'll never know. oh well, it's cool to think about it

I find it really hard to imagine an end or beggining, is it round, square or what the hell is it, sometimes i have even fell asleep trying to imagine, its like trying to think of nothing, just try to do it.

The universe is like the internet... It really doesn't have a beginning or an end. And it has a lot of stuff in it. Maybe the universe is a "higher being's" internet, and earth is just a porn site :)

Hmm, now that I think about it...

There are rules in the universe about things like matter, energy, etc... Just as there are rules on how the internet works. The universe is not only expanding, it is expanding at an accellerated rate.. The internet started off with several computers networked, and by the 1990's, when the average home user got in on it, the internet started expanding rapidly...

Hmm... Posted Image

hmmm quite alot of intresting points here...but you have too note that all these scintist the morevthey search them ore things they find they cant explain its endless i know that no matter how many years or scientist we have/use we will not have all the answers its like staring at untuned television channel if you stare at it long enough you begin to see things that arent really there im not saying that its all bull but not everyone sees the same thing i can see black you can see red we both looking at the samething tho so in a way yuo should not question everything because if you do that you will questiong yr existence (which is happening already) and then from there its endless...the universe and its creation is very simple but if we had it all alyed out for us we would not be able to understand it so once humans can understand something we know what it is and thas the way it goes and always will go

Thank you for the compliment :) I should have that officially copyrighted before Stephen Hawking writes a book on it or something...

i'm a buddhist... i am not a very devoted one... quite ashame of it... i believe in god.. i believe in science... and i believe that science can't explain everything... becuz of these believe, i believe in psychic... anyway... i just read half way thru the thread and have so much in mind so i just skip thru and came to here... first of all... human have once tot the world is flat... the sun go round the earth... but it turn out all wrong... so don't lock your mind when it comes to all these stuff... :) human are not stupid... they are the smartest being ever known existed... right now the very computer u are using is one of human greatest invention... i must say one would never know everything abt this universe... but one must never get so locked in its own believe... after all... believe have been proven wrong so many times... and we are like a frog in a well (a chinese idiom... have the meaning of we haven seen everything but den we come out with something abt it... just like this frog who only see thru the hole from the bottom of the well and wanna say/believe the sky is small... something like tat) we only see so little of the enormous universe... we haven even figure wad exactly time is... and how these all started... sometimes... believe are used to filled up these doubts... just to have an answer abt it... and satisfied our curiosity... unless i got a true evidence of everything... i won't say anything is wrong... or anything is right... i just believe tat there is a possibility in them... :) but i definitely will support more of the logical theory or believe...

Oh, I agree. There is much out there that will remain unknown to mankind for eternity. The best we can hope to do is to guess, estimate, and predict based on the knowledge we've collected so far. If there is a "higher power" (gods, God, etc.) I believe that the rules set up by that entity can be "reverse engineered," so to speak. Science is the way to understanding how (insert your religious deity here) constructed the universe(s) (pluralize if there are multiple universes, as some theories suggest), and the rules governing the whole thing. This is the most logical thing I can come up with to support both religions and sciences.
