  1. Even though there are more web pages than humans, there are still folks out there that don;t know how to make a site. In my opinion the easiest way to get a site up and to then manage it is Frontpage. Even if you hate Microslop it is easy to use to get started. If you can run a wordprocessor you can make a site. What comes next is the problem. It uses 100 little files to format a page. BUT you never get to know how it does it, where the references are, in order to make small changes.I would like to know what the next baby step is to add online decisions. And run a database.
  2. CAN ASTAHOSTS HOST the new .US, OR .INFO DOMAIN?The intro mentions .com explicitly and I have grown to distrust anything touched by a computer.
  3. ANTI MATTER AND GOEDELS THEOREMYes Dorothy you can kiss Santa and any other aliens you encounter. The universe has almost no anti-matter. Why that is has had physicist scratching their heads for years. If there were equal parts of matter and anti matter then it would be a lot less hospitable to life. Maybe it has something to do with dark matter and dark energy.Someone else earlier in this thread pointed out that some things are unknowable. You will be happy to know that this was proven quite generally by Goedel in the 1930's. It actually is quite profound. It is related to recursiveness, things referring to themselves. In a nutshell it says that any sufficiently complex system can generate theories that cant be proven or disproven. For example, the idea of knowing yourself can't happen because that self that knows you is no longer you. Think about it, the words are hard.
  4. I was upset to see someone write that they couldn't believe in the big bang because they were christians. Spiritual beliefs have their place in the spiritual realm, not accessible to reason and observation. Science and technology does great in the latter. To be conistent, a noon-believer in the big bang or evolution, would have to not believe in his car, computer, and electricity.
  5. BIG BANGLots of good stuff in this thread. And some information that's out of date. The Big bang is now part of well established theory like relativity and nuclear physics. What's going on now in physics is fleshing out the consequences of the big bang. One is that if we look far enough with our telescopes, we should see it! (The farther you look, the further into the past you're seeing.) And we can see it. It's not a big yellow flash. Because of expansion of the universe, the blast is so far red shifted that it is in the microwave/radio part of the spectrum. In 1950's a couple of guys working at Bell Labs were trying to determine the source of radio noise. It turned out that 10% was from out there, from the big bang. And it comes from every direction.Looking closer, the radiation is not quite uniform. There are hot spots a - few teths of a percent. That was a relief to physicists because our universe right now is non-uniform, which can't follow from a uniform bang. Calculations show that the non-uniformity is just right to explain the large scale structure of the universe, glaxies, clusters of glaxies, and the Great Wall of clusters.
