mahesh2k 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2010 Now for the love of old Xisto, can you add history of Xisto in the Xisto's naviagation links ? By the way opaque, hold logo contest for Xisto. this one in the top left corner of forums look very odd...Now coming back to your question, add everything that answers newbie questions like mycent FAQ/Hosting FAQ (either links or FAQ in flash page itself). More information you give to newbies in frontpage less they'll ask over and over again at forums.
anwiii 17 Report post Posted March 31, 2010 (edited) i think a new theme is in order. no half *a*s*s one either. this has been a topic that has surfaced for a while and now i think it's very appropriate to change the theme.i also agree that we need a better logo. one to match the new name and new theme(if you are even considering a new theme)this guide to host on the main page has to go. let it be a seperate entity. it's on a different domain and it will confuse new users right from the start and i for one am getting tired of new users getting confused.create a STEP BY STEP, easy to follow and do guide for new users. so there is no confusion how mycents works and how they are able to get a free domain and free hosting for post to host websites. put THAT on your front page in the forum part of the site.also, for every new user who signs up, i would like a responder set up so an email gets sent to them directly to their email with a link to the new guide and the rules etc....so all we have to do to help a new user is to refer them back to the email that was sent them rather than explain in the shoutbox and hear the confusion in the forums. sure, there will probably be confusion for those who haven't read their email, but at least we can refer them back to their email and reduce the unnecessary topics.i have a lot of suggestions, but these are my suggestions for now for an eye catching forum and to help the new users more so they are less confused which would hopefully make new users more active. i think the ones i have suggested are the most important in my opinion....while just waking up, mind ya....so i may have left out one or two important ones that need attention right away...p.s. - i would have waited to put up your main site when all the links were pointing to relevant stuff. right now, there are links pointing to nothing. so since you couldn't wait to put up your main pages, i would fix the irrelevant pages asap because that may turn off new users who don't know that trap is going through a transition phase. Running With Scissors 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2010 No offence But thats kinda saying"This is my site.. i do whatever i want.. i dont care what my members think... they dont know anything" This is his site though haha. And obviously he does care or he wouldn't have asked what we thought before he changed it. I think the new site looks really cool. The old landing page look boring and unprofessional to me. This one is way more up-to-date. Congrats on a good job.

nirvaman 1 Report post Posted March 31, 2010 Yep , congratulation for the new website and domain. The new landing page is very good coded , with flah.....etc , but it takes a long time to load , about 2 minutes for me , so if you can think about making it lighter then that. But in general way , it's a good new website , i saw the members websites section with my website thumb but with no link , you can't click on my website thumb , but it's ok
truefusion 3 Report post Posted March 31, 2010 So what will be done about the words "Open Discussion Forums"? Sure, it was "Open Discussion Forums" even with "Xisto," but it is still a bit inconsistent. Likewise "Xisto Shoutbox." What is a major inconvenience is that we require flash to even get to the forum link. Lucky for me I correctly guessed and added \forum to the end of the url otherwise i would have not have made it back.I just use Opera's Speed Dial feature, having one of the numbers point to the forums, avoiding the front page entirely. But having a non-flash footer may help those without flash access the forums quicker.
Soviet Rathe 1 Report post Posted March 31, 2010 Why even start a poll if you're going to go ahead with it anyway? so weak...goodbye Xisto... I'll miss you :'(ok putting the grieving aside. if you're interested in a new theme.. I have made a few templates that I have also made for IPB you can check them out here http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Â If you want to use one of these tell me and I'll customize it to work well with these forums... of course those previews are for a main page but like I said, I have made them into IPB skins aswell. anwiii 17 Report post Posted March 31, 2010 evidently, nobody even fully read opaque's first post. he had already intended on changing the name. from what i got out of it, he was changing it no matter if people liked it or not. he created the poll just to get an idea of the reaction to expect from the new name change, this was never about a poll to decide whether he should change the name or not or if people like the name or not. it wasn't about advice or opinions. the name was going to be changed no matter what the poll looked like.so when i keep hearing how he changed the name despite how many people disliked a name change and how he didn't listen to the members is just RIDICULOUS thinking. i voted "bad" only because i thought there were better names out there but i still like the name as long as a theme and other changes can incorporate within the new name change and be more relevant than how it's set up right now.i do agree with the user who didn't like the comment "this is my site". that phrase defeats the purpose of even asking for suggestions or opinions or putting up a poll.....in general. i was a bit taken back since the members and non members of this site make up this site.....not the owner or any one person. this is what i like about the site....it is a somewhat community based forum. so yea, it may be one person's site, but it's ultimately more than one person who makes or breaks it and keeps it alive. DodgyPhil 1 Report post Posted March 31, 2010 I personally like the name change, even though some have pointed out that the 'sutra' suffix is eerily close to 'kamasutra'..It certainly does sound more professionally, and you can't really argue that it doesn't sound like a 'hosting website' name, as neither did "Xisto". The knowledge part of the new name will hopefully entice new members: with the impression that the staff know what they're doing. Also, slightly offtopic: but I really love the potential flash site! A showcase of members' sites would certainly set Xisto (I mean Xisto) apart from a lot of the other hosting sites!Anyway, this isn't just a *bottom*-kissing post, I sincerely support Opaque's decision. (Maybe some more bandwidth my way should be in order, as a reward)
gisellebebegirl 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2010 Well other than the fact that i had a panick attack when http://forums.xisto.com/ kept going to http://forums.xisto.com/ because i thought Xisto.com was eithera) Over or hacked by some sex website and after being 6 minutes in, the flash application is at 65% flashing circles at me..i think Xisto, did need a name change,i do not know why though, but the new name kinda sort of reminds me of a sex/porn/sextoy store name, i think its coolexcept maybe you could add a html/flash option on the new homepage.. because i am sure i have a super fast internet connection, and the circle, circle, 10, 11, 12 thing is driving me insane
Soviet Rathe 1 Report post Posted April 1, 2010 The main page was loading, OK. but after it reached 61% it starting loading ubber slow... like 1% every 30 seconds.. I didn't even take the time to let it fully load....Making a website entirely with flash isn't a good idea... lots of people might not be able to load it or have problems with it, or they might mistake it for an attack site which... frankly if I didn't already know what this site was I wouldn't trust it.... furthermore people using a plugin such as noscript won't be able to see the page at all....
