Sea Mac 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2009 Welcome! And Santa scares me. He's an old man with a beard... Who likes little boys to sit on his lap. After they tell him their deepest secrets (what they want for Christmas) he gives them candy. Â Wonder what the REAL story is behind it... I hope you're not a pogonophobe! Ho-ho-ho! Â I've heard 3 versions. The first is about a Norseman who feeds Spotted "Magic" mushrooms (Fly Agaric) to his reindeer - and has a few himself. Then they all pass out in a heap and hallucinate that they are flying around the world. (If any of these jokers are pedophiles I'm placing my money on this one.) Â Then there is a tale about a generous, sainted man named Nicholas who was Kindly towards the poor and downtrodden. I'm 90% this Santa. My Site has no advertising and is well stocked with links to Free (Mostly Open Source) Software and resources. When one of you asks for Software I'll dig down into my 'bag of holding' and pull good stuff up to share! Look at the other 2 topics I posted in already today - very good suggestions all. Â The last is really an observation by a smart guy named Chris Holt that "Santa Claus is the most successful open source project in history" His blog post is worth reading: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and starts off It dawned on me the other day, as I was shopping for the dozens of gifts it seems I have to buy every December, that Santa Claus is the most successful open source project in history. Santa Claus is essentially a marketing development that is embodied by everyone who stuffs a sock, gives a gift, hosts a dinner or wishes Merry Christmas over the holiday season. After all, we all embody Santa Claus, assume that spirit, especially when we're writing "from Santa" on the gift tags attached to our children's gifts. The source code for this program is the Christmas Spirit and it supports a huge volunteer effort to continue the Santa Claus gift giving tradition. How could we not be giving gifts at Christmas? (Homelessness, poverty and other religions notwithstanding.) Probably close to a billion people are involved in the development of the Santa Claus free software project. Â I'm either 10% or 100% this type of Santa - I'm sure 10% because my "Gift Giving" has absolutely NO Commercial interest in it for me at All! I'm not making a penny on Software Santa: that's the way it SHOULD Be! (I'm impoverished myself and this started off 3 years ago as my way of "Giving Presents" to all my friends because I had nothing with which to buy them the nice things I wanted to get them.) I think it would be so tacky for Santa to come down your chimney with his hand out for Donations, or tattooed all over with Ads by Google. My Idea is to faithfully execute my vision of "If Santa Claus had a web site: what would it be like?" for the benefit of the English speaking world. Â Namaste Sea Mac - welcome to the Xisto forums! So you have three domains already?! Looks like you've come here with the intention of becoming a member of our community- that's awesome! Â I hope you'll find your time here enjoyable and am sure you'll fit right in. Have a good time! Thank you! Â You are correct: I'm here to share nice things with you all. I'm not here for Free hosting - if it looks viable I might post it as a "Present" someday - but I'm here to BE a very good member. Â I'm doing a little 'cross mining': I find nice 'presents' here and credit the original posters for the tip off (like this: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ or this http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ ) or you all ask for things like a free AutoDesk CAD system or a decent Multi-Track Music Recorder and I already know where these things are and toss them on our growing heap of goodies. Share and Share alike! Â Nice to be here!

Sea Mac 0 Report post Posted November 26, 2009 (edited) Hey Sea Mac, welcome to Xisto. I took a quick look at SoftwareSanta and it was nice. Interesting theme! I plan to become a member and check it out more thoroughly later. See you around! Thank you for the Warm welcome. Â If you looked at my site then you saw I permit no advertising or spam on it. Just free things - about 2,300 things so far in nearly 3 years of working on it. It's my hobby and it's not a commercial site (IE I'm not making money on it). Â My site also has a small (cheesy?) arcade built in to it. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Everyone can play but you need to Register if you want to save your scores. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Â If you DO register I'll be able to personally take requests for Software .... I'll dig around through my "Mega Sites" (Like over 300,000 cool FREE Open Source programs to be found over at Source Forge http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ ) and suggest programs for you. I know of millions of free programs and certainly haven't had time to post more than a fraction of them! Â That's why I'm here - to look through all of your suggestions and to share my own too. Â Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving! Edited November 26, 2009 by Sea Mac (see edit history)

rob86 2 Report post Posted December 16, 2009 I guess the Software Santa abandoned us this Christmas, what terrible news. I was looking forward to the jolly soul spreading the Christmas joy this holiday season. We must have a lot of people on the naughty list. I bet it's because of all of you no-quoters! You know who you are!
