Xbox 360 Vs Ps3 What do you think is the best

Recommended Posts

On this corner we have the Microsoft's Xbox 360 and.............. on this corner we have the Sony Playstation 3. These 2 will be fighting head to head today right here. Let the fight begin! Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 are two of the leading gaming platforms out there. The gaming power of these are quite alike even though Xbox 360 was made around 2005 while the ps3 was made around 2006. Lets see what is really better out of these 2.Specifications of the Xbox 360.1. Custom IBM PowerPC-based CPU - Three symmetrical cores running at 3.2 GHz each, two hardware threads per core, that is six hardware threads total. 1 MB L2 cache.2. CPU Game Math Performance - 9.6 billion dot product operations per second. 10 MB of embedded DRAM..3. Custom ATI Graphics Processor - 512 MB of 700 MHz GDDR3 RAM. 48 billion shader operations per second.4. Memory Bandwidth - 22.4 GB/s memory interface bus bandwidth, 256 GB/s memory bandwidth to EDRAM, 21.6 GB/s front-side bus.5. All games supported at 16:9, 720p, 1080i and 1080p, with anti-aliasing.Now lets see PS3 Specs.1. PowerPC-base Core - 3.2GHz, 512KB L2 cache .2. GPU - RSX 550MHz.3. Memory - 256MB XDR Main RAM 3.2GHz, 256MB GDDR3 VRAM 700MHz.4. System bandwidth - Main RAM 25.6GB/s, VRAM 22.4GB/s, RSX 20GB/s (write) + 15GB/s (read), SB 2.5GB/s (write) + 2.5GB/s (read).5. Screen size - 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p When it comes to processing power PS3 has the edge over the Xbox since PS3 has a 51 billion dot product operations per second, while the Xbox only has 33.6. billion. PS3 supports Blue Ray and a typical Blue Ray disc can hold 55GB while the Xbox dual layer dvds can only hold about 9GB.When it comes to graphics many believe that the Xbox has better graphics but according to gamespot we can see that in the PS3 texture resolutions are higher than the Xbox. Nut when it comes to lighting Xbox seems much better. But some say that for the Xbox games cannot be any better than now, and that it has shown it's full power in today's games. But the PS3 needs better games to display it's full power and for now only 40% (not sure) is shown. They say that the PS3 can handle much more than the Xbox.Well this is what I can dig up on this discussion. What console do you guys think is going to win this fight? :XD:

Following John Carmack's opinions given at QuakeCon events and various online interviews provides good insight about PS3 vs Xbox 360. Developers have to work twice as hard on the PS3 to produce a game that performs the same as the Xbox 360. Games developed for PS3 can potentially be superior to the Xbox 360, but (from a developers standpoint) you would have to go out of your way to do so. Apparently ID software's new "Rage" is reduced graphically due to the compression required to fit the game on a DVD rather than Blu-Ray disc. It seems to come down to this - when the same game is developed on a 360 and a PS3, usually the result is the 360 game looks graphically superior due to not being a hassle for developers. Saying that, the PS3 has much more potential and Blu-Ray is a definant strong point.

How is it way better than xbox 360s? Every single xbox 360 game has achievements..including arcade games. Guitar hero for the ps3 doesn't even have trophy system, so you guys aren't really challenged when it comes to guitar hero, and I'm 100% sure it isn't just that game. Tell me how that is better..Maybe the ps3 has some eye candy for the trophy system, but I don't care about graphics on that part, as long as it challenges me to do things I wouldn't normally do, which gives me more value out of every game.Until recently the ps3 hasn't had any good ps3 exclusives. No titles, at least the xbox had halo, which was a great series in the beginning, and there are so many more things than just that on the ps3. None of fps were any good on the ps2 (at least for online/multiplayer) until cod4 came out, in which the xbox's version still rocked the ps3 version. More people use xbox live, therefore more games can make it have online. Ps3 online may be free, but still, xbox's live is good enough for me. I'll pay that $50 a year. Its basically a $50 insurance on every game I buy saying I'll probably end up playing it 10x longer then I would have without it. Plus that $50 goes straight to microsoft who will then hopefully use it to upgrade. Which is where the ps3 failed, all the money they make is off the consoles, and the games and the online marketplace, which I'm sure is hardly anything that their making.I agree that the ps3 has amazing graphics, but that is nothing that I care about, I'm good with the graphics in cod4, or gears of war, heck I'm good with the graphics in crackdown, as long as the game is amazing, it doesn't bother me any. Blu-ray is amazing though so I can't really say anything about that truly. For all you saying playstation's specs are way better than xbox 360, I agree, but how many games have that kind of power to push playstation's specs to the max and truly be that good. When people say xbox's graphics are better, it is because they are basing it off of the games already out for the xbox, and playstation, and not what they can handle.

Well, I reserved comment on this until after E3 was over and I had all the information in.My XBOX360 vs. PS3 Hardware analysis:If you want to skip all the technical crap, I'll summarize it for you in one line. The two look like they will have similar performance in games, but I would give the edge to XBOX360. The difference at best will likely be like the difference between XBOX and Gamecube this generation.Reasons why:specs boiled downCPUXBOX360: Three fully functional CPU cores with 2 threads each (IBM)PS3: One fully functional CPU core with 7 helper units/mini cores. (IBM)GPUXBOX360: ATI R500 (WGF2.0/Unified Shaders)PS3: Nvidia G70 90nm (SM3.0)Looking at CPU specs first, I would say that both used at their full potential for games would give similar performance. However, the complexity of programming the PS3's CPU will be much greater than that of the complexity of programming for XBOX360's CPU. Therefore, I believe like PS2's "emotion engine," it will take programmers a long time to get the full potential out of PS3 hardware, and due to this XBOX360 will look superior for the first 1-2 years of PS3's release. After that, I think they will come close to one another for the most complex games, with XBOX360 having a significant edge for less complex games due to its simpler yet just as powerful design. On the GPU side, XBOX360 most definitely has the more advanced graphics chipset. While PS3 uses this year's SM3.0 PC technology, XBOX360 uses shader technology that likely won't debut on the PC until 2007 (unified shaders). While the XBOX360 GPU doesn't have the brute force of the PS3 GPU, it is much more efficient for the task at hand, and therefore should produce superior performance and graphics quality. So, in the end, despite PS3 arriving 6 months after XBOX360, I predict XBOX360 will look significantly better than PS3 for the first 1-2 years of PS3's release. After that, I believe they will look the same, though I still would guess most titles will have an edge on the XBOX360 due to its much simpler programming.Revolution I can't comment on, but Nintendo seems to have already said they are going to be less powerful than MS/Sony in their interviews.

XBOX 360 is terribleXbox 360 Vs Ps3

Studies show that 60% of manufactured xbox's eventually get the red ring of death. This means that you will most likely have to ship it back to Microsoft and wait for another one to be mailed back. If you've had the xbox 360 for 3 years then you get rrod, then you have been robbed of your money. The extra $100 is pointless for wireless capabilities. Playstation 3 has great titles such as Resistance 2 and Uncharted 2. Playstation 3 never overheats unlike the box 360. The materials used to manufacture the PS3 are much higher quality than the Xbox 360. The newest PS3 has a 250 gb which can be filled with music and videos and games. I can surf the web with my ps3 and watch youtube videos. I can also connect my ps3 to my computer wirelessly and watch movies on my tv when the files are on my pc. PS3 has a motion sensor in the controller and are lighter. Xbox only supports 4 cotrollers whereas PS3 supports 7. PS3 has Bluetooth, Xbox has crap. The power brick for the Xbox is clearly dumb because they just wanted to make the system smaller whereas the PS3 doesn't have a huge external power brick. PS3 has slot loading BLU-RAY drive and Xbox has a tray loading dvd drive. PS3 can continuously upgrade the software/firmware easily and periodically to enhance the experience whereas XBox can't (or at least it's a bigger hassle). I'm sure there are many more reasons why Playstation 3 is much better than Xbox 360. The PS3 slim is lighter and smaller too!

PS3 Wins.Xbox 360 Vs Ps3

Killzone 2. Hands down, the best multiplayer ever even in comparison with COD Modern Warfare 2. You would have to be super talented to camp like a little #%$&^ in Killzone. MAG is coming out. 256 player online. Some of you retards will say 'that's going to lag like a roflcopter.' Well if it was just a game full of lag, I don't think they would release it now would they? Heavy Rain is coming. I don't even know what it is about, but it looks amazing and I want it. inFAMOUS is probably the coolest thing I have seen in a long time. GTA with super powers. I have played GTA IV and it is terrible. Graphics **** for sure and the gameplay is bad. Just the demo for inFAMOUS could beat Halo 3 with it's hands tied behind its back. I know 3 people with 360's. All 3 got RROD. I know 7 people with PS3. None failed. One of the 360 guys (biggest fanboy ever) switched to PS3 and is now in love with it. The PSN is constantly getting better and I have noticed it first hand because I have been on PS3 for two years now. Motorstorm (yes the original) is the best racing game I have ever played, and I am a shoot em up kind of guy. There is so much creativity in that game. God of War III is also coming and that's all I'm going to say, because I'm getting a rather large erection. Uncharted 2, MGS4 --lots of cut scenes, but the gameplay and graphics are so good you have to remind yourself to push the buttons, because you're out of the cutscene. Resistance Fall of Man holds a special place in my heart, because it was the first PS3 game I saw played. My brother had it and it was amazing. When he was done, I wandered back to my room to play Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow. No comparison there. Resistance 2. Great blood and guts for those of you who love goregasms. 60 player online. No lag that I have ever experienced. Amazing single player. Alternate fire on all weapons. What could be better than slowing down time and sniping and alien's face off?

If none of these reasons change your mind, I will give you one more: Porn. (with no threat of viruses) Thank you web browser.

This is my first post so here goes. Overall I give props to both consoles. There are some games that I feel deserve to be on a particular console ie MGS4, Uncharted on Ps3 and Halo, gears on xbox. In terms of gaming fun, I think the 360 beats the ps3 hands down just because games are more fun to play on the 360 :P . But also certain ps3 games just have to be played on a ps3 like MGS ( amazing game) , killzone2(good game) and Uncharted2. I definitely understand the whole complexity about programming PS3 games. A game like MGS looks like it must've taken ages and the visuals of the cut scenes were so amazing. Really cant imagine seeing that on the 360.I own a 360 but also play the ps3. Both are good but I would choose the 360 any day, The ps3 is overpriced and is not being used to its full potential and might never will. If all PS3 games looked as good as MGS4 I might change my opinion. I am however looking forward to Heaven Rain though :P (PS3 exclusive)To summarize, 360=more games, more fun, value for money PS3= FERRARI with a blown engine lol

I personally think that PS3 is better than xbox 360 , as i own one and its got better graphics , it looks better and i dont play online = )

Round 1 ? Design

Here, the PS3 takes it, even though CNet thinks it looks like a George Foreman Grill, which I suppose it does from a certain angle. I can?t believe the Xbox 360?s controller is given top marks though because personally I find it a little too childish and gimmicky for my liking.

Round 2 ? Features

PS3 = Blu-ray, WiFi, and Bluetooth. Xbox 360 = none of the above. A perfect score for the PS3, and rightly so, seeing as its feature set is probably the most rounded and fulfilling of that seen on any home console ever.

Round 3 ? Online

The Xbox 360 takes this round comfortably thanks to the ease of using Xbox Live, and the new Netflix compatibility. However, I can?t understand the scoring really when PSN is free and isn?t as bad as CNet makes out. The judges clearly aren?t fans of Home but I?d personally rather have it than not have it.

Round 4 ? Graphics

This round is a joke and for me, calls out the three judges as Xbox fanboys. On multi-platform games, the Xbox 360 apparently shades it ? maybe, maybe not, but I think it?s too close to call either way. But platform exclusives? I?m sorry but the PS3 takes this crown by a mile. As stated, there is nothing that compares to Metal Gear Solid 4 or Killzone 2, so why the draw?

Round 5 ? Games

Xbox 360 ? Gears of War and Halo. PS3 ? Metal Gear Solid 4 and LittleBigPlanet. Woah, hang on a moment, why those two games? Why not Killzone 2 or God of War 3? Or Heavy Rain and Uncharted 2? Talk about picking your games to suit your own needs, which in this case is clearly an Xbox 360 win. I concede the backwards compatibility point though ? it sucks.

Round 6 ? Value For Money

Apparently, being the best Blu-ray player on the market and having an astounding range of exclusive games either out or coming out soon doesn?t warrant an extra $100. Sure, the PS3 could do with a price cut but I?d still say it?s very good value for money even at its current price.

The Result

It?s official. According to CNet, the Xbox 360 is better than the Playstation 3. Don?t worry that the presenter and main judge is a douchebag, or that we never actually get to see the other two judges give their opinions (if they even exist). CNet has spoken, and the Xbox 360 rules over the PS3. There is clearly no argument to be had.

*beats horse... again*

*and again*

*and again*

I used to think that the utility of a BluRay player bundled into the PS3 would make it a superior entertainment console as far as the home theater goes, but now I'm not so sure. Right now, I've got my Xbox 360 hooked up to an external hard drive with all of my movies loaded onto it, so I basically turned my Xbox 360 into a sort of home theater PC that's capable of gaming, watching movies and shows, listening to music, and watching slideshows of family pictures, etc. It's a crazy powerhouse when you think about it that way... and it has high definition video and digital audio to boot (with HDMI on the newer models or component and digital TOSLINK audio on the older variant - the one I have). Throw in Xbox Live, Netflix streaming, some online social networking (which I'm sure is more of a gimmick than anything else), and I believe you have an all-in-one box, provided that you rip your HD movies to the hard drive so there's no worries with scratched BR discs or whatnot. My current beef with my 360, however, is the file format support. The best quality that I can pull off of that hard drive is limited to 1080p 10Mbps H.264-encoded video with 2-channel STEREO sound. I'm not sure if you can do better with the PS3, however:

The Microsoft Xbox 360 will receive stand-alone H.264 decoding in the Spring Dashboard Update to be released on May 7th.[15] The Xbox 360 will play H.264 video files up to 10 Mbit/s peak in 1080p (H.264 Level 4.1) high profile and audio up to 2 channel AAC LC. [16]

The Sony Playstation 3, which can work as a Blu-ray movie player, is able to play Blu-ray movies encoded with the standard H.264 codec. It can also play H.264 MP4 files up to 1080p (Level 4.1) main profile, as well as AVC-HD format DVD (An implementation of H.264 for Sony/Panasonic/JVC DVD camcoder).

Source

It almost seems like the PS3 and Xbox 360 have similar hurdles when it comes to video and audio codec support, and neither play the superior MKV container, instead only allowing MP4 and AVI. It's a pain in the neck to try to convert 1.5GB to 8GB video files, knowing that you're opting for 2-channel sound over the original 6, which kind of kills the reason why you bought that $500+ surround sound system. :P

I've never owned a PS3, so I can't thoroughly and truthfully comment with experience. All I can say is that it's now at a competitive price point with the new Slim model, but with the price drops of the Xbox 360 and the Wii, it's still going to have a rough time making sales numbers in comparison.

There are a decent number of PS3-exclusive titles that I wouldn't mind owning a PS3 to play, but at the moment, it doesn't seem worth it to me to go out and purchase one since I would be limited to such a small library of good [subjectively-speaking, of course] games. Off the top of my head, I would play Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance I and II, Gran Turismo, God of War III, Haze, Lair, The Last Guardian, maybe LittleBigPlanet, MAG, and Uncharted I and II [12]. In comparison, the Xbox 360 has these going for me: Alan Wake, America's Army, Dead or Alive 4, Dead Rising, Fable II and III, FarCry Instincts, Forza Motorsport, Gears of War II, the Halo games (ODST, Reach, Halo Wars, and Halo 3), Infinite Undiscovery, Kameo, maybe Kingdom Under Fire, maybe Lost Odyssey, maybe The Outfit, Perfect Dark Zero, Project Gotham Racing, and Too Human [21]. Mind you, these are exclusive to each console.

Put it like this, Playstation will always win because of the fact they are a more well established brand and because Microsoft's Xbox screwed us gamers over when it comes to multi-platform games, because everyone starts with them first and then us, Thus the reason we Playstation gamers get screwed over with the bad version because they have to dumb it down in order for the games to work.

I do not own a 360 for the fact being it lacks versatility. The Wii is able to download channels that one prefers and use it, being that one is connected to the internet. I enjoy the ps3 because it can read many of the burned copied files that one might have .AVI .MP4 etc etc. As well able to set up another partition (spelling) on it as well. I have yet to install one but the i understand that Red Dog Linux is able to run the ps3 smoothly. However the Xbox 360 has had decent titles exclusively thats almost tempted me to join the darkside I.E. Ninja Gaiden 2, Gears of War 2. Halo was interesting up until the 2nd one then it blew out of proportiton. Main reasons mulitplatform games are better on 360 because they need to nerf down the programming in-order for it to look decent on the 360. 360 does not have a operating system, even Wii can handle internet capabilities. Yes, although we wish to play ps2 games on your ps3 and it cannot happen unless u have the rare 60 GB, you can still backtrack to the ps1 era and either download or just pop in the ps3. With the 360 you cannot play certian xbox games, which if you enjoyed halo you cant really play it because it might not work. My old roommate used to love his 360 slowly but surely it failed on him, his disk drive broke, then the following; Laser cracked, Failure to Power up, and ultimately death. Not only that, you gotta buy insurance on your 360 games in praise that your 360 will not burn a hole in your disk. Ive had my ps3 for about a good year, and ive never had problems with it, nor with the company brand SONY. As for additional hardware such as headsets, wireless adapters, Sony has been good about that being able to connect any blu-tooth and not require any wireless adapters, The 360 is the only console I know that requires the adapter which will set you back a $100 plus buying online cards for 12 months will cost for 50 dollars. plus buying points. PS3 connect to your router, go online and have fun on PSN. Although you need to pay for it all in the end, at least PSN doesnt trick your with stupid points systems like Microsoft. Another thing thats somewhat annoying, for you to buy a headset it must be either some outragesous microsoft thing or a 2.5 mm headset, which can be a hassle if you dont know what your looking for. Overall Ps3 is your best friend.

Wait, what? You might have to explain your point a bit...

How is PlayStation a more established brand? Everyone knows both systems and the common associations with each. The PS3 Slim should garner more of an audience now that it's at a realistic price point for most consumers, but PS3 is associated with the utility of a Blu-Ray Player and its relatively-high cost. The 360 is plagued by its Red-Ring-of-Death history, but the newer hardware should keep new consumers interested (i.e. the Elite variants, the new motherboards, the new heat sinks, etc.).

As far as multi-platform games goes, Microsoft wins over Sony in terms of ease of development. That's why Playstation 3 owners will be screwed over... because Sony screwed YOU over by making the PS3 advanced enough to thwart developers from creating a PS3 version of their games. It's more advanced hardware-wise, but it doesn't yield a heck of a lot of difference with visual and audio quality. Look at some comparison screenshots and tell me if there's a dramatic difference or not.

In my opinion, it's not worth getting either system over the other based on audio or video quality... or even performance. The only arguable features to compare would include what YOU want to do with your console.

@Mead: Versatility is your argument? The only features I can think off the top of my head that differentiate the two systems is that you have to pay for Xbox Live vs. free Internet play on the PS3, the built-in Blu-Ray with the PS3 and the dead HD-DVD attachment for the 360, and whatever both offer for things for online content which really is moot since a software update can keep both consoles on each other's toes. If you want a gaming console, the only difference to factor is whether you want to pay for XBL or play online for free. (If you want to throw in the SIXAXIS motion control as a factor, go for it.)

Codec support, I found out, is actually rather similar. The Xbox 360 does support AVI and MP4 containers... the problem lies with the codecs. My huge beef now that I have a 5.1 surround sound system is that the 360 does NOT support 5.1 audio codecs... it has to be converted to 2-channel stereo or else it won't play. I'm reading that the PS3 doesn't support any 5.1 audio codecs either. (For those reading, please note that this is only for streamed video or video played off of a USB device... both consoles support 5.1 audio from a DVD. Obviously, it doesn't through a composite connection... it would have to be an optical/HDMI output.)

Im sorry for wanting hardware that does just more than play games, to me it makes sense if your gonna invest in something, better make sure its worth it. Doesnt that make sense ? why pay the 300 for an object that only plays games, when u can spend the same and do much more with it like surf the net true there are limitations, but after all its a console, not a pc. I just think that Microsoft should just do one thing....make OS other than that much of their products kinda fail, other than the 360.
