i guess there are many other softwares other than sony vegas...Corel VideoStudio,Adobe Premiere Elements are well known for their video editing. But Adobe is quite costly compared with others, there is yet another one by name Pinnacle ..this Pinnacle too is bit costly .. your requirement is user friendly , as far as i know the Adobe Premiere is really user friendly. You may go for that. More over the capture and the playback options in adobe is really cool, you wont have any delay or anything like that , its smooth. The tabs in Adobe Premiere are really user friendly , where everything is possible. If you are much concerened about cost, i would suggest you to go for Nero, Nero too have their editing software, its quite cheap compared with others. But its not that popular like Adobe Premiere and others.

I use Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects. They both are better than most other PROFESSIONAL video editing software. I started buying Adobe back when it was CS2, it used to be different, neither of these programs were included, so I would edit each frame in Photoshop, it took HOURS to do, but had spectacular effects when it was compiled. In CS3 it was introduced and I found it VERY useful, I really was amazed with the results.

When I saw Adobe After Effects, I knew that is will be great. But as I don't have much free time to adapt to the program, I can't go anywhere far. Nevertheless, it is highly recommended.Windows movie maker is a simple and easy to use software. But due to the lack of effects, which I like, I would use it to manage simple clips and send it to another software to edit the effects.Pinnacle Studio is great. It has some preset effects which is available to make good movies.I know some others which are, of course, quite good. But I just got used to certain ones and don't know much about the others.
