Masturbation - A Psychological Addiction

Recommended Posts

Well, dude, simply not wanting to do it anymore is not likely to work. You see, you are hard-wired to do it. It's a natural form of your sexual development. Now I'm not saying that you will be unsuccessful, but it will be extremely difficult, if not next to impossible.Shot of physically injuring yourself, as to make it uncomfortable, it will mainly be a "mind over matter" thing. You'll just have to use every once of your willpower. Good luck.Though it doesn't seem that you are at all addicted to masturbation, the best way to stop is to slowly and gradually wean yourself from it. Reduce the amount of times you masturbate per day/week. As you stop doing it, the urge will seem strong, but you'll be able to overcome it. Once you do, your body will eventually adjust. Be aware that during the time you quit masturbating, you may experience Nocturnal Emissions (Wet Dreams), but they may reduce as your body adjusts to your not masturbating. Hope this helps. You may try writing yourself notes, and leaving them everywhere. Write them in code, so only you know what the meaning is. And put them EVERYWHERE.You'll have to set your mind to it if you really want to stop, or cut back. Whatever your usual routine is, change it. Don't give yourself so much extra alone time and when you start to get excited think of something gross. But I'd say it's pretty healthy to masturbate a few times a week. Best of luck! Its not necessarily "best" to stop. There are a lot worse things you could be doing. If you really want to stop then get rid of your porn and things that make you think of sex and find a hobby that distracts you. Who said it's best to stop? It's natural that's why we do it, and it isn't good to stop, it makes no difference apart from keeping up the fresh sperm which in nature is a good thing. Start having sex everyday then you might stop, or take medication like anti depressants or prostate pills which can lower libido. Why the hell do you want to stopIF YOUR IN YOUR TEENAGE YEARS, ITS NORMAL. YOU JUST FIGURED OUT HOW TO MASTURBATE, AND IT FEELS SO GD. AFTER A WHILE, AND AFTER GETTING A G.F, YOU'LL GET TIRED OF IT. OR YOU'LL JUST LITE'IN UP ON IT.who told u not to masturbate. masturbate all u want. it will help you last longer in sex. swear on my balls. if you wanna stop masturbating have someone else do it for you. or cut a whole in a grapefruit and put ur peepee in itI think I've heard this question here before... but anyway, I think it's possible to get addicted to anything. In my personal dictionary, 'addiction' is when you're having just too much of something that it's no longer good for you. So in your case, if masturbation is being done to the point that it's already affecting you adversely [i.e. can't go to sleep unless you do it] then it may be called an addiction.

Masturbation is perfectly healthy. I recommend it highly. Otherwise, you'll just be sexually frustrated, which makes it difficult to concentrate on work/school. Young people are especially sexually obsessive. Mother Nature's way of compelling young people to reproduce and propagate the species. Some people can suppress their urges. The boring people. Most people can't. Masturbation is preferable to unwanted teenage pregnancies.

Wow.........Is it really healthy? I find it quite addicting.....Naaaaw...I don't masurbate. I am thirteen and I try to stay away from porn as it would probably make me constantly look at boobs and asses.... (thinking about last year....)

it's perfectly normal and healthy. and most teenagers do it. its not an addiction its just a part of life. there is absolutely nothing at all wrong with it and it makes people less fustrated.

I don't think masturbation is good. When I was growing up most of my friends were doing it but whenever I tried it it hurt so bad and I wouldn't come. All I would get was a swollen thingie and worries. Just a couple of weeks ago after watching a porn movie I tried it and for the first time I came. From that day I've had this urge to do it again but I'll try to resist it because I can see that this'll easily turn into an addiction. This may also affect my sex life when I get married.

I try to stay away from it myself, because I know that I have an addictive personality...aka if I start something slightly addictive I will tend to overdo it (from sodas). I can say that the best way to stop would be get a girlfriend (and if she is the right one marry her) then when you have married her enjoy the benefits of the marriage. Although I have no actual experience in this, most of the married couples will tell you there is nothing better, and that being true the problem will disapear. Hope you overcome this and I hope I never have this problem.

addiction to masturbation is something that is both disgusting and private. Of course, some guys get disgusted with themselves after they do it. But some use it to get their heat out without resorting to sex. Cure? Find something else you are equally interested in and fun to do. Something that doesn't have to do with sex and its counter parts. [after all, it is quite tiring if you keep doing it............ aside from the fact that you might get frowned upon when somebody accidentally opens the door..........]

I masturbate regularly, I am 16 years old and it's really really not that bad, it didn't made me a sexual freak, it didn't made me want to rape little children or my female friends, it's not that bad really! I don't know why you guys have anything against it.Yeah, you can become a freak if you do it constantly, but tell me what doesn't get bad if you do it all the time?Sorry that I can't make add anything more to the subject.

pippin is right. there is absoulutely nothing wrong with masturbation. and it is true that there are people who think masturbation can cause some serious deseases but its not true. medical specialists in the area have said that it is perfectly health which it is.

but this topic is not about whether masturbation is healthy or not its about being addicted to it. being addicted to anything whether its a good thing or bad thing is generally not good. like being addicted to chocolate is not good. being addicted to losing weight on the other hand can lead to anorexia. so even being addicted to a good thing is bad.

whether masturbation is a good thing is up to the person. it is proven to be healthy but whether it is "right" that is up to the person.

but being addicted to masturbation is a bad thing.

Too much of everything is bad, masturbation might be good for mental health till an extent but beyond that it starts making your concentration loose, and you mentally sick. Psychologically you will not be able to think of anything else but inducing feelings related to sex in your mind. The best way to counter this addiction is to involve yourself in some other recreative stuff, such as pursuing your hobbies, developing new hobbies or any other work which will engage you in some or the other way. Meditation is one good remedy I will suggest, because besides keeping you healthy it will help you make your mind and will power stronger.

You guys bring up being "addicted" to masturbation. I just don't see how you can classify what is "addicted" and what isn't, regarding that. It's like those who are "addicted" to sex. Who is to say that someone who does it once a week is addicted whereas someone who does it once a month isn't?Everyone is different. And being that it's human nature to want gratification of some type(even animals do it), there really is no "addiction" to it.If that is considered addiction, then you're also bad because you're addicted to eating and drinking liquids. You're also addicted to sleep.

I'm no psychology expert here, but with the way it's being used, I think "addiction" would be better classified as obsession in this sense, especially with the way rpgsearcherz broke it down.To use his example, let's say if this person who had sex once a month is more "addicted" to it than the person who had sex once a week. If sex is the one thought that overwhelms this guys mind more than anything else, then it can be said that he's addicted to it. But of course, the better term really is obsession here, since being addicted to sex is not really a compulsory thing. It's important to recognize the distinction and to know how it incorporates into your own life... whether it be polishing the pope or otherwise. For your well-being and self-control and whatnot.
