Microsoft Offers Free Domains!

Recommended Posts

So I was just surfing websites and I found this!

*btw, I found this by google searching "saturday 22nd april 2006, google looks very pretty today", and clicking "I'm feeling lucky".*

Simply click here;

http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

And fill out the information.

The only downside is that you need to give them ALL your info, name, number, address, credit card, everything, for a free domain. They're offering .com, .org, and .net domain names.

The offer will extend from the begining and after the beta testing of Microsoft office live. I'm not sure what other strings are attached, because I'm unable to do this!

Also, you must be using a recent version of IE inorder to register, since that's the only browser Live works with, another downside.

If you do this, please let me know how it turns out!

An excellent find KuBi.I like what I read until I saw the "Common Questions" If a user wants to use his/her own files, with the beta basic service a user cannot upload the file. So essentially, one has to use online page maker tools. Only the advanced package can upload user defined files (html, php and all your other scripts) using Frontpage 2003 as a website editor.I think it's good for those who are looking for quick, professional look, easy hosting solution. But if you want to customize and add nice scripts that Xisto has been featuring, I think you are better off hosting on your own. And I also don't like the fact that I have zero control over my own files. Microsoft's Office Live Basics does not offer FTP, cPanel or addon forum scripts. Plus, it has ad banner so you will not have the total control over you entire site. Besides the free domain name, it's worse than Xisto dot NET.However, from the marketing point of view, this is some brilliant tactic from Microsoft. Because if you look at it, once you're hooked on free service you need to purchase Frontpage to upload (money goes to MS for making you buy their product) and other features you want to add, it goes to MS.

I knew it was to good to be true! Plus the idea of Microsoft the largest and smartest software company, the giant of giants, will give something for free mmmmmm. dont think so, i guess they make the thing look great and free but then there is something that for sure if you want the service to work well, youll have to buy it. lol

But i do finded this live ideas https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/18614/windows-essentials where microsoft introduces you to their beta versions of some very cool ideas.

The mail live looks pretty amazing, you can sign up to be a beta tester.

Hm, that's not just free. Free during beta version and after is only 30MB storage capacity. I wonder if this works properly for a long run. And it's only for US netizens. In fact for US big companies know well how important it is to catch all the net users. They woo them with all sorts of offers. And 30MB is not a big deal, it is to attract them to a bigger business opportunities for those companies. If one wants to upgrade the next webhosting cost is $29 something per month which is quite a lot. And if one somehow manages to sign up free account he is bound to upgrade soon because 30MB is hardly anything. So, this offer is very much tempting but can totally make us crazy if we realized about the future expansion of our businesses and websites.

I couldn't sign up for a few reasons. THe Internet Explorer version which I have is able to sign up for the service. However, I don't have a credit card and I'm not living in USA. That's the bad thing. These 2 restrictions simply blocks off most non-businessmen.Anyway, why would Microsoft start giving out such services? Free domain, free web hosting, free this and free that? Isn't that weird? That's Microsoft eh?

I have tried this before. This is absolutely a trick from that stupid company. They insist that you give them their credit card number so that they can charge you an exorbitant fee after the so-called beta testing phase ends. If you ever have a domain name, you will know how difficult it is to change over to another name server because you have a lot of people on your site only knowing your URL name. That?s very very bad indeed for such a big company to come up with such a dirty trick. Plus, there is absolutely no mention of when the beta phase would end and how much they are going to charge after the beta phase. They just want your credit card number and your authorization. This is as bad as those fraud and phishing websites. My comment is, don?t use that. It is a trick.

I guess this way Microsoft can hook you up at least for a year, because the domain will be registered for a year. You'll need to use the Microsoft service for a year, and seeing the service includes little to nothing except a page designing tool it sounds like a very bad idea to me, so no thanks microsoft better luck with other crappy products in the future <_<

well i own 3 doamins already. i dont think i'm ready for another just yet haha.. domains dont cost all that much anyway. if your that much of a fan then spend a good $15 and buy a domain. its not that much and its pretty much worth every dollar.

Looks pretty good but since it's only open to US residents it is worthless to me. Also making us give them our credit card numbers for a free website is kinda pointless.

Till where i remember its now open to the international public. But if not you could always trick Microsoft as it is Microsoft - The easiest to fool.I am not giving any tuts on hacking it !!!One thing i noticed in this thread was that everyone was talking as it being a trapped.I though dont feel quite the same you see.If you remember Google also started Google Pages .The rivalry has lead to this. This is what i feel.
