Desktop Vs Laptop the ultimate debates

Desktop PC's are the way to go if your looking for a system at home. They don't break eaisly. They have better performance and space issues. You can install 2 250s in a desktop and get 1/2 terabyte. Now if you were using a laptop the idea would be compact, small, affordable, and light. Anything else would become a desktop. Though hard drives dont get that big with notebooks. All in all, I believe that DESKTOP COMPUTERS win.

Definitely a laptop if you're a power user. If I were a moderate user, I'd do the laptop because I like to be unchained. For $850, I got a desktop that is E6550, 2GB ram, 320 GB HD, 8800 GTS 320MB, DL CD burner. That is much better than I'd get for $850 on a laptop.

Just to let you know I am a 12yr old boy. Seeing as I own both a laptop and a desktop to myself I have highly used them both to have enough info to tell you guys that the Laptop is portable but it doesn't give you the comforting feeling a desktop gives. I think that the highest ram of a laptop is 4GB while the desktop can be upgraded to 6GB I think. And another thing is that if you buy a new video card or sound card then you will not be able to fit it into your laptop as it has no more space and on the other hand a desktop has plenty of room which allows you to have multiple hard disks, video cards, sound cards and other peripherals. A laptop can get easily stolen if the burglars come at night as it is very light and easily movable but God knows how a burglar would take a desktop or even touch one. And last but not least a laptop is much more vulnerable to cracks breakages and scratches while the desktop is stuck at one place so it cannot be harmed. Talking about the price everyone knows that desktops are much more cheaper. So all in all I strongly believe that Desktops rule the world and years to come.

I like desktop but go for laptop if you have to be mobile all the time

I like using desktop...Because they are more sturdy..You can be quiet harsh with them and you know nothing will happen...You can sit quiet far frm screen and still enjoy the movie laying on your couch...You can see a movie with so many people because screens are bigger and no side view problem...Thirdly offcourse they are least vulnerable to be stolen or to be lost..

 

But go for a laptop if you are always mobile, I live in my hostel room and don't travel much so its cool for me...Frm my lab I use remote desktop hence again no problem..

You're cute kid. I was wondering what to buy my 13 year old son. Eveything you said was the reason I wanted a desktop. They have more memory, he won't drop it and it won't get stolen if he dared to take it to school.

Sorry to dig up an old post but I think this is a valid debate. Me personally, I prefer to use an HP laptop with a docking station at home. That way you can get the best of both worlds. It is a quick disconnect form the docking station when I need to run out the door and when I am at home I can have my large monitor hooked up for gaming. I have a nvidia nforce chipset. It is an HP pavilion 6000 series which is pretty much a great all around laptop for everything.

Depends on what i'm using it forA laptop is good for portability, but doesn't always have great performance. And lets not forget how much more you are gonna pay for a good laptop compared to an equally good desktop.The desktop isn't portable, yet you are gonna get way more for your money. Also its way more customizeable, if you want to add a new graphics card or other pci card for instance, you aren't gonna be able to do that easily on the laptop. but the desktop--just unplug, open, replace.

Well, I think a desktop will be a better option as it can give a better performance, its got a good life comparatively, playing heavy games are possible on a desktop, and in less money one can get a better destop.Moreover , it is more customisable I.E. A graphics card or a pci card can be changed easily in it.So I would pefer a desktop...

Well, both laptops and desktops have their pros and cons and usually that determines which way you go. Of course, it is not uncommon to have both especially if you have a job that requires you to be on the movie and yet still do work at home when given the chance. As f or the biggest pro for each is that laptop has superior mobility and desktops have superior customization and of course if you reverse those two pros they become cons as laptops are not really customizable while desktops are not really mobile.

I used to use Desktop computers and never thought of Laptop several years ago, but for some time now, when Laptops got much cheaper and much more reliable and powerful, I think most of users are choosing to get a Laptop, especially if they are not hardcore gamers, due to even though a laptop might be powerful, it is saving energy with all those speed stuff, that you usually get more speed on a Desktop..I bought a Laptop some years ago and I'm really happy, when I go somewhere I just take it and have a small cordless laser mouse, which is very convenient lets say at work and university.. But at home 15.4 screen is to small for me, thats why I connect it to external big LCD monitor and have external keyboard and a bigger mouse, so it seems that I'm on a "Desktop" computer, even though it is portable Because my laptop only has Stereo output, I bought external sound card, my sound system is 7.1 so it's quite stupid to use only two speakers, so I really think that if it's possible, it's better to use Laptop and if it is to small for you, just buy external LCD monitor and etc. :excl:Of course, when having a real Desktop, you can add more HDD and customize it, but it's hard to move it, as been said and having a Laptop and a Desktop, well you'll need to use two Operating Systems, so double work for you, double updates, double scanning and etc. :angel:

Hi!I'd definitely get a notebook PC instead of a desktop. Sure, desktops are more powerful can be upgraded more easily and you can hook up a really mean video card in it, but the ease with which you can pick up your notebook PC and walk into any room or go out to the coffee shop wins me over. That, and I can take my notebook with me to class so I don't need to buy another one just to take to class.When the workplace offers me a notebook PC, I take it around to the conference room, to a co-worker's desk for discussions and stuff. They'd be spending more in lost productivity if they gave me a desktop PC. The notebook can still run CounterStrike Source at full detail though :-PRegards,Nitin Reddy
