  1. When did I say it was a free Market. By the prices involved, transfer windows, imperfect knowledge of the player's abilities.Football is far from a Perfect Market.
  2. As I understand it, playing a song backwards and a subliminal message are actually two different things. In my opinion though: Led Zep was a fluke, I can hear something theree but really it isn't coherent enough. Pink Floyd n the other hand have done some pretty weird stuff as well as the (obviously intetional) hidden mesage in the wall to the Dark Side of the Moon/Wizard of Oz theory....
  3. I try not to think about the insane amount that sports stars 'earn' at the best of times, but it's a common gripe to society it seems and I guess that's what has made me comment. I prefer to use the example of 'soccer' referred to as Football from here on in.Could you do what David Beckham does. Could you personally play football as well as he does. No? Didn't think so. Truth of the matter is nobody can be David Beckham exactly to the letter, he is unique. This means that there is only one of him, a finite product. So because of this he can effectively charge what he likes. It's the same with singers, there is only one of them, so they can afford to get huge sums of money. At least that's the economic viewpoint.
  4. Yes yes yes, we could all spend all day on wikipedia looking up warp drives and watching star trek btu i don't think that it would really help the situation. I think, and I may as well declare it now, that in the current setup that we have as in the known universe, that it is currently, and always will be impossible for any particle to move faster than the speed of light. I would not rule out other forms of high speed 'travel' though. I think teleportation is a possibility, albeit several hundred years off. In Geneva they have managed to teleport an atom across a lab. That will be the building blocks of it. Doing it with a live person however I'm not sure. There may also be access to another dimension in which we can 'short circuit' our dimension to 'bend the rules' that we know in order to travel faster than light. I don't think it will be possible through a warp drive mind.
  5. Yup I roll with 'whipping the llama's *bottom*' with Winamp. Have been using it for several years now and have never looked back. Have a lovely equilizer program for it also.
  6. That's not a plan for fixing the economy as a whole. That's a plan for fixing the American economy. Still, an interesting post and one I'll pass opinion on. I can't comment on the housing issue with the US, as ours is different, and you may just have the right idea on that one. However, setting a tariff on all foriegn goods is blatant protectionism. Why? you said it yourself, you are 'levelling the playing field'. In other words protecting your countries' workers from other, cheaper sources of labour. Maybe the workers in your contry should accept lower wages due to the recession which will in turn 'level the playing field', just in the opposite direction. Yes, the LEDC countries have cheaper labour costs, accept it. They have a comparative advantage over you in labour. I'm sure the US has a comparative advantage of china in some things, it's just the way it works; we are not all the same. Also as the prices of goods around the world increase - they will due to the high tariff implaced by yourselves and the theory that they will 'pay their workers more' Then the global economy would begin to break down with next to no trade. Other countries would impose tariffs on the US so instead of selling to a global market, US producers will only be selling to a domestic market. This will continue around the globe. How far will it go? Will China get annoyed at this, your damn right it will, in 10 years time will China begin building up military forces unless the situation is averted. Most likely. World War III anyone? As for your take on the 'War on Terror' Pulling soldiers out is a good idea. That war should never have been fought in the first place and I have always maintained that. from an economic point of view, unless the US is getting substantially reduced oil rates - a possibilty- the the war is completely not viable. You are spending billions on something that you are getting no economic gain from at all. Not one cent. The next issue is what to do with your troops when they come back. As you have said if they were left unemployed then it would not be a good thing, they would probably end up sponging off the state or whatever. The only solution to that I could think of is another Kaynesian approach (John Maynard Kaynes was a key advisor to Roosevelt) which is to greatly increase public spending on projects such as schools, dams, and other labour intensive heavy engineering. The only problem with this is funding the projects. Where does the money usually come from? Government Bonds and loans. Then the banks get involved again. That could be damned messy.
  7. Yeah he's most definately got a point there. I don't think it works like that, you cant buy your way into heaven, you have to be a certain kind of person, and heck, if you _can_ buy your way into heaven then for what it's meant to be it would probably cost more than a quarter of a mil.
  8. I normally don't smoke. I gave up a few years ago. I still normally have 1 or two *BLEEP* a month though, they are always at the end of days. Just gives me a little closure and time to reflect on what happened. As I say though, I don't smoke tobacco nearly as much as I used to, I just don't see the point of it so much anymore.
  9. Quick question: How many of you guys actually drive? It's all well and good saying that you'd like a Lamborghini, heck I would too, but it isn't really going to get you anywhere. (pun)It's prefectly possible for you to have a great time driving a car without spending millions. What's the real difference between a Ferrari and a Mazda apart from the inherent snob value that is associated with the prancing horse. Yeah Ferrari's are much faster, in a straight line, but what skill does it take to plant your foot to the floor, for me driving is about different pleasures. On todays roads you can't really drive at speeds that make a Ferrari necessary, Christiano Ronaldo tried, and failed. I drive a 2001 Mazda MX-5, or Miata for you guys based in the US. It has a few performance upgrades that I might go into a little later if it's relevant, it's not slow but it's not going to take down Ferraris or anything like that. It's just a great little car that is really fun to drive. It's simple, lightweight and rear wheel drive, it's got enough power to kick the back end out when I want it to, but not so much power I live in fear that if I make a mistake I'm going to end up in a hedge. Unlike most of the world it seems I still enjoy driving, the manual experience, the art of getting the perfect line through a corner, the perfect upshift, the feeling of being in complete control of your machine. Just seems like it's lost on a lot of people these days.Edit: Good point about old people driving young peoples cars though, it is all down to money, people just don't have the cash to insure and run a Ferrari, let alone buy one in the first place
  10. I feel like a dark person for saying this, but the money is going straight into my pocket. I'm not splitting it up or giving it to anyone but myself. I'd probably end up investing it mind, in some grand scheme where my million could make tens of millions, money is good.Put simply 1mil isn't nearly enough to make a difference on a global scale, to anybody, even if you donated all of it to charity, you'd help some but not all. Not really fair.
  11. Don't try to run before you can walk man. Fundamentally it's all the same stuff, your probably not going to be able to dive in and play Metallica to any level of proficiency for at least a few months, maybe even years. Get a book, stick with it and maybe invest in some guitar lessons. I don't mean to dampen your enthusiam or anything man, but you gotta respect these difficult songs else there would be no skill in playing them. For me it made it all the more sweeter when I could play along to Fade to Black. Took me a few years to get there mind.
  12. Not really an easy one for a guy to answer on a forum to be honest. Just pay attention to her in as much detail as you can when she's around. Listen to her, if she sounds genuine, she probably is, not all women are nasty, promise. The fact that she is paying attention to you is a damned good thing, and if anything you have your foot in the door because of that. She's clearly paying attention to you if she notes what you are wearing, just be careful tho, she might only be after the candy! :PBut the way I see it, you have a chance now, talk to her more, sit next to her and just be yourself.
  13. Hmm, You seem to have a problem there bud, the only palatable advice I can offer is to have a think about anything that may trigger these dreams - I mean, the obvious answer is her in general, but think deeper than that. Maybe in your dream there is some point of focus that may not be clear, like... If you find her old hairbrush in your room it might start something in your head. Medatating is actually quite a difficult thing to do properly, so if you're up for that it maybe worth researching it a little, but it may help. But keeping busy is definately the way forward, maybe get a job, take up another hobby, spend more time with your friends, pretty much anything that isn't connected to her.
  14. Well, things have taken a turn for the worse/better depending on your viewpoint. She dumped me a few days ago, and, I'm not feeling all that great about it. You can think you have feelings for someone which are completely different to the ones you actually have. I think the only way of finding out these 'true' feelings is when the *BLEEP* hits the fan.I don't know, maybe I didn't want to like her because I was upset in myself at her going away, maybe there was something more there than I anticipated. This maybe better in the long term, again maybe someone else knows more than me. I've blocked her on facebook (even though every 5 minutes, I keep wondering what she's up to an wanting to check it) deleted her number frm my phone and pretty much isolated her as much as I can. It's not really helping, but I don't know how much worse I would be if I did have some contact with her. A lot I reckon.I have to say I really miss being in a relationship, but I'm really picky with girls. It seems most of my friends seem to grab any girl and 'shape' them into something they're not. I'm not down with that, I want a girl that I like the way she is. Who am I to change anyone's life? But yeah, I was fine when it happened but I guess now I start to miss all the things that were there. Obviously the 'rose-tinted goggles' come into it, but I can't really help that.I'm not sure if I can 'appreciate' - if that's the right word, being single right now. All I can think about it girls, but I just don't know anyone else that I like - which annoys me further and makes me feel like there is no way out in the near future.
  15. No need to apologize websey, this is all relatively new to me so anyhelp is appreciated.I guess I wasn't really expecting the reactions I got though, kinda makes me consider somethings. I guess after being together for so long I never really contremplated splitting up, maybe that was my own folly. But yeah, you guys are probably right looking at it, she just kinda rolled over mine one day and said she would be off for about a year, maybe less maybe more. Kinda blew me out, but her parents live in another country so she does go away for a month maybe two a year, but 10 months is quite something else. I'd think about splitting up with her now, but quite honestly I don't want to do it from such a distance. Maybe there's other reasons too. Maybe in some circumstances she will just cut off communications completely, hence doing my job for me.Yeah, going out with other girls is gonna be a bit of a challenge I think, I've been out of the game for a while, forgotten techniques etc....Kinda ironic actually, I was meant to go into town with this girl I was speaking about I work with, but she bailed and isn't replying to my texts either... Oh the fun doesn't stop.
