  1. In our state, there is a saying..."If you want to kill a goat, first tell others first that it is a dog, not a goat. Then, when this idea is widespread, tell others that it is not just a dog, but a mad dog and can infect people and kill them. Then the people will kill the 'mad dog' and your job of killing the goat is done".Many governments are using this trick to ban people's rights to decide what to think, speak or write. Unfortunately, China is always in the wrong side of the news... What is freedom, if we can't think on our own !
  2. I would suggest SUPER ? Simplified Universal Player Encoder & Renderer that can convert almost "anything to anything", including the MP3 to WAV conversion. It is a freeware and can be found at http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html and download from http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  3. Probably tomorrow there will be such a technology that would allow us to format or defrag our brains. If this is offered as a commercial service, that would create some fun !We do a backup of our files before we do a format of hard disks. When it comes to brain formatting, they will do a backup and after formating, will restore the data back in to our brain. What if the backup fails? What if they intentionally refuses to restore, who will ask to whom? What if the backup mixed up with other customers? Mr. X, who is a doctor would get a restored version of Mr. Y who is an engineer !!!Defrag is a serious process even though we do it often on our personal computers. I think those working with data storage at mission critical or corporate enviornments would not do this, unless they have a few full back up. What if you missed the fragment that stores your identity as a so and so person? What if you lost the fragment that stores the information that you are undergoing a brain defrag?Am I talking about human beings or some machines?? I doubt...
  4. Yes, it depends on how we define the word "Random". I am thinking about the abstract meaning of randomness. For everyday practical applications, there are many random generators.A coin toss is a good random in conventional standards but when we analyze it in depth, we have to travel back in time, to the point of the origin of the universe from the Big Bang, as it is understood at the moment. It would be hard for me to believe that "something comes out of nothing"...Big Bang is a good candidate for the concept of "Absolute Random" due to the non-existence of other factors to decide its fate. Agreed, even though I am neither a fan of the Big Bang theory nor do I expect a "Creator God" beyond the universe. Everyone doubting the Big Bang theory are not expecting a "Creator God", they may be thinking about other possible options. In fact, we are not much familiar with the concept of "Creator God" in India as the religion here does not endorse such a concept with the exception of inferior literature on personal God etc. As any attempt of "study" presupposes ignorance and I am aware that CERN is working to resolve the exciting Physics of cosmic origin with the LHC, I must wait for some new, hopefully raw, data from it. Can I come to a conclusion from it? I don't know...Random generated using unicellular organisms also qualify for a good, practical random but every life form including the unicellular organisms are controlled by their genetic makeup and this determines their life, including movement. In case of a unicellular organism, they are in fact not free to float, but move towards chemical or physical gradients, where chances of survival are more. But still, it creates a good random...https://www.random.org/ creates random numbers using the physical variable of atmospheric noise that can be picked up from a normal radio or perhaps with any good quality microphone. If we use this as a seed and do hashing on it, we will get a relatively higher degree of randomness.
  5. "What you think, you become" If you relate astrology with psychology or psychoanalysis, you may predict personality predictions with relatively higher accuracy. But, I think, if you don't mix astrology with psychology, you can make these predictions even better. I am not against any field of human endeavor but only holds that they should be used for the benefit of the society at large, either physically or psychologically.
  6. I would like to be a human being... He is much better than other animals.. GRRR....
  7. Well Mahesh, when I said we need men to work, I am not excluding myself. I am also a part of an organization working for the poor and needy. At present, I am providing financial support for them and by the end of next year, I am joining them for full time philanthropic work. I know, I cannot make a difference in the society at large but that doesn't mean that I have no role here. I am doing my part, and trying to extend this part all the time so that I can be of some use for my country...
  8. So my doubt "has something in it", shadowx.... CERN is among the two organizations I follow on my Twitter. It is not the time to decide whether everything said in the field of fundamental physics was correct or everything was wrong. Let particle physics work at the LHC and find answers... (Although we are free to make our own philosophies ) From your answer, I assume that a computer starts creating a random number from a variable and this variable can be as complex as the number of protons present in the United States + Mars + an ice cream ! We can increase the degree of randomness by including complex variables, but true at the moment of determination, in to our RAND function like CMBR. Looks good... And my mind may have an inclination towards a particular number from which it generates a highly random number, thanks to the high-speed neuron circuits of my brain. But I must confess, I was unable to successfully decode how my brain came to this final random. Reverse engineering skills of my brain may not be that effective. But still, this raises another question... Is my brain much, much sharper than I think of it at the moment? A new field of study for me indeed... So the conclusion is, according to our present physics, mathematics and neuroscience, an absolutely random number does not exist.. Isn't it?
  9. In India, astrology means "predicting the future and if anything adverse is noticed, suggest ways to resolve it so that everything stays good and progress towards the positive side".I personally feels that this is a baseless concept. Astrology was originally Astronomy in ancient India. People knew that the position of stars are of vital importance in predicting, or more precisely calculating, the rainy season and this adjust their agriculture accordingly. As the financial future of a man and his family depends on the yields of his farms, there is an indirect relationship between Astrology and personal future. Other than that, it might be of importance in navigation and studies related to the astral bodies like earth, sun etc.Much later, this became a blind belief here. Now Astrologers in different names and forms, are everywhere in the country and they are making a good fortune out of this business. Of course, many of them are knowledgeable about the books that deals with the subject but what is the use of a book that deals with baseless principles? In my opinion, astrology is a joke, comparable to a funny television show.
  10. Mahesh, if you got a solution, please post it here. . By default, WordPress is installed with write permissions for wp-content directory as I tested this with two other servers earlier. I have noticed three instances of theme and plug-in installations. 1. Everything works fine, when we click on install new theme or plugin, it gets downloaded automatically and we just have to activate it by a click. 2. When we try to install a theme or plug-in, WordPress will ask for FTP information. If we supply correct FTP credentials, everything will work fine as in case 1. 3. WordPress will ask for FTP information but even giving the correct FTP details will not download or install the theme/plug-in. This is slightly documented at WordPress support site as an issue related to ownership of the folder. Hosting companies says that it is a bug with WordPress but I think it happens with free hosting reseller firms like gofreeserve.com. Hope we do not face such issues here at Xisto as we seems to have our own web servers.
  11. Today a friends asked me to say a number over the phone. I asked him why but he insisted me just say a number, that's all. I told him one 5 digit number and he disconnected the phone. Till now, I am not sure why he asked for this number and what was the number I have given to him... but this raised another question in my mind.Is there any relation between a random number generated by a human brain and a computer? Which one is actually random, one I told him without any thought or a number generated by a computer program? When I was in college, I learned about programming functions like x=rand() where a compute generates a random number using a built-in random function and assigns this random value to the variable "x". But internally this random functions must work of certain variables so that a computer can create a random number, I think. It can be anything - time, date or any available parameter - twisted and coded in such a way that it becomes a good random. But it always requires an absolute value, at a particular moment, to generate a random. In short, eventhough we may find a compute generated random is absolutely random, it is not so internally. But what about we human beings? When someone asks you to say a number, we probably link this to our date of birth, today's date or present time and create a random out of it. We may also modify a number displayed nearby, like a car number plate, make a quick alteration and tell that number as random. But what it we do not depend on any of these tricks and produce an absolutely random number out of our mind? Can't we do that?Which one these numbers, machine generated or human generated, is more random? Is this one of the areas in artificial intelligence where human brain outperforms super computers?(I will call my friend later and tell you why did he asked for that random number, the "Newton's Apple" )
  12. There are so many free hosting review sites. http://www.freehostsfinder.com/ also offers a service up-time chart which is quite useful. They seems more updated and offers a detailed review of every website along with screenshots. But Xisto site listed at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ says that this service is no more active, no more updated or hidden from search results.
  13. Every country has their own special methods of greeting people. It is an intelligent idea to learn how to greet people of a particular country, if you are planning to go there on a trip as this builds better relations when you are there. Most of us love to see persons from other countries speaking to us in our language and following our customs when they are with us.Obama's act is to be taken as a noble gesture of respect to the Emperor of another country. By offering his salutations according to the custom of Japan, he actually upheld international brotherhood by promoting mutual love and respect. I think most of the people of America would be proud about this.It is human, everything raises praise and criticism. When it comes to higher meanings of international relations and human friendship, we have to listen to the positive aspects in them and appreciate them, whenever we can.In India, our scriptures say "Athithi Devo Bhava", means "A guest is to be treated as God". Thus, being an Indian, I have to support Mr. Obama for his humble salutations, even though it is a minor act of respect.
  14. I came across a website siteshots.org which takes a snapshot of a website using different browsers, versions, screen resolution, script functions etc. But it only gives an image of the index page and just says "how it looks", not "how it works". I am thinking about a developers only broswer that can simulate all popular browsers, different versions, screen sizes, OSs, mobile view etc.I know, with a collection of different tools, I can do it. But I need all, at least most, of these features in a single software. Any suggestion?
  15. One of the most important factor is widespread corruption and inadequate planning. Politicians always need some parts of the country or a community to stay as poor all the time. It is all about vote bank politics. Corruption adds more problems in a country like India where critical decisions are always of pure political nature. If a Govt. allocated Rs. 100.00 for a rural development project, only Rs. 20.00 will reach the final beneficiary, even though all the funds of the nation are subject to strict audit by Controller and Auditor General. The funds, when they are transferred through various agencies like state governments, district authorities, panchayath system and local working group gets highly diluted, or often washed off completely, before it reaches the needy.Development is often concentrated in metro cities where people are more knowledgeable about their rights. India spends most of the money in development to build infrastructure for the middle class, upper middle class and the rich living in urban or semi-urban areas and the poor, that represents a major part of the country's population is conveniently ignored. We need real men and women, selfless to the core, filled with love for the country to work out the solution for the downtrodden. Swami Vivekananda once said; "We must have brave men with a heart that could feel the pain of others, brains that finds out solutions for the suffering and hands that works out the solutions". Now, as Mahesh said, we are having a huge number of charitable organizations trying to religiously convert people so that God will help them...
  16. Jesus Christ when he returns...
  17. Water is water everywhere but it is know by different names at different parts of the world. But that makes no change to the object, here water...Religion is, when simplified, the path to God. Here God is a destination. Compare it with water. Those who have seen and felt water personally has no doubts about what it is like... but those who just heard of it could argue over its properties, size, shape, color and everything. When Jesus met with God, he called him as Father. When Mohammed met with God, he called him as Allah. When Rishis of India met with God, they called it as Brahman...Waves are there in the shore, not in the deep sea... What the so called religious people should try to do is to "See God", or "Be God" and thus join the lines of those who are beyond the stage of confusion... In India, Swami Vivekananda once said.. All prophets were great and their messages were also great but they are gone... Now they are not here to guide you. So you be a prophet, be as pure as Jesus or be a Rishi... See what is and what is not by yourself. This is the key to the heart of religion.
  18. Google April fool jokes are great... When they published Google Paper, I really tried to locate the "Print" button to get a physical copy of my message delivered by Google from USA... all when I can simply press Ctrl + P to get it printed on my personal printer.
  19. If it is an analytics service, let it be Google but if you are looking for a free detailed website statistics service, I would recommend http://statcounter.com/. Google analytics is mainly for commercial websites, even though everyone can use it.
  20. For rural India, BSNL in the only option. I used Tata DSL but the prices were not good and service was a mess...
  21. Gofreeserve.com does not offer Fantastico for free users. They offers a program called "iVista" which they claims to be like Fantastico. Eventhough the installation was easy, I doubt it is perfect. I would suggest you to do a manual installation of WordPress using FTP and configure your MySQL databases manually. This takes some time but could solve the issue...When I tried to install a theme to gofreeserve.com, I got the same error "Unable to locate WordPress Content directory (wp-content)."
  22. From some news websites, I learned that corporates are reluctant to adopt cloud computing as their messages and files will be stored in a cloud owned and operated by someone else.
