  1. It won't earn you much. It will probably never be enough to pay your school fees. These type of stuff are good for a little extra cash. Don't hope on it.Why not just try it and see how it goes? How much money u earn also depends on how much work you do too....You might like it...-Shackman
  2. What are you trying to say? THREAD LOCKED -Shackman
  3. I signed up for Misty and Sams Cash e-mail program awhile ago.... It's a pay to read site. They send you e-mails and you have to click links to advertiser's sites and read them. Well, I don't earn much from it, but I think it's worth for you guys to try it out. The thing I like about this company is that they send you a few e-mails daily. Some pay to read sites only send you e-mails like once a week or something, which makes it really hard to earn anything. 4. Open Office as cool. The best part is that it is free. It is also a very small download as compared to Microsoft's Office suite. But as it goes, Open Office is definitly not as powerful as Microsoft's. Open Office still needs a lot of improvements and new features before it goes main stream.-Shackman
  5. I fully agree that Google should have its own Instant Messenger. I think it would be a very feasible idea. Maybe someone should petition to Google or something?I'll gladly sign it...And true, although Gmail is one of the best webmail clients, it still has room for improvement. Go Google!-Shackman
  6. I would like some nice music at my funeral. Everyone will have to die one day, so why not make your death a joyous one?Probably some cool music, no sad ones. I don't want people crying at my funeral. My death should not hurt anyone... -Shackman
  7. I agree too. Price is the cause of piracy. Another thing I noticed is that is is more convenient to download games than to walk to the comptuer store in a far away town to get a copy. The service from Fileplanet where you can download the files immediately does help. As Opaque said, if they reduced their prices, they will recieve more sales.-Shackman
  8. I would definitely prefer Firefox. I was quite skeptical about Firefox at first. I was quite puzzled and went....what in the world is this thing? Why do people say Firefox is way better than IE?At that time, IE worked fine for me. It had not disappointed me yet but I was also interested to see what Firefox was all about. And I never regretted that decision. Now I mostly use Firefox for surfing. You try it, and you'll know what I mean...But the only downside of Firefox is that some pages don't display properly in it. So I have to open these pages in IE. But these pages are like....7% of all the pages I surf so it ain't a rtelaly big issue. Anyway, the webdesigners should have taken the responsibility of making sure that the website displays properly in different browsers. That's the only issue. If not, Firefox is the perfect browser for me!-Shackman
  9. Pay as you go plans are the best. They are very concenient if you don't use ure phone much. It saves you from paying for stuff you don't need.-Shackman
  10. I hate pop ups and pop unders. I hate pop unders the most. Image and text links are fine, as long as they don't clutter the webpage. The webmaster's gotta get some money somehow right.....?
  11. The company DOES monitor the amout of clicks on an ad. The company pays you by the number of clicks the ads recieve(rates vary from company to compnay). For the amount of time it is on the site, I am not too sure. I don't think they monitor that. I also don't think you are allowed to create a page specially for ads. Not any of the PPc networks I know of allows this. There may be companies out there that do...I'm not too sure...but none that I know of. -Shackman
  12. A small article for poeple interested in placing PPc ads on their site. (it's rather basic, so seasoned webmasters can skip this) Traffic I own a website for a Half-life 2 mod named Desolate. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Although the mod is not fully complete yet, I still somehow managed to draw some regular visitors. These regular visitors are known as 'traffic' to your website. The more traffic you recieve, the more advantage you will have in PPC(and even other types of ad). This is simply because the more visitors you have, the more people will see the advertiser's ads. A traffic of like 10 unique visitors a day should be enough for you to earn a few cents. As we know by now, the more the better. Ad Networks Now, the problem of 'Who?' as in which ad network you should approach to place ads on your site comes in. I would recommend Ad Brite. http://www.sitescout.com/adbrite/?utm_source=adbrite It was also the first ad network I used. Note: Companies that provide ads for you to place on your website are known as ad netwroks. AdBrite, although is not the best ad network, nor does it pay you gold for clicks, it is a good start for beginners. The interface is quite initutive and you should be able to place ads on your website without much hassle. You also do not need to go through a review/approval process or let an crawler crawl your website. This lets you place ads on your site and earn money immediately. This is very important for beginners because usually if you have to wait for a few days, you would get very bored and in the end, decide not to put ads on your web. Also, you can also get to see the ads immediatly so it gives you a quick first time experience on how ads are like on your website. If you don't like AdBrite's ads on your website, you can forget about using other ad networks. Ad Brite's are similar to most of the ad networks' ads out there. Get a feel of it. If you hate it, stop it. Adhearus and Google should be your next stop if you feel comfortable with having ads on your web. However, for these networks, you need to go through an approval process which can take anywhere between 6 hours to a week. Adhearus http://adhearus.com/process/route/2431795019.html?refresh=noscript Google https://www.google.com/adsense/start/?gsessionid=SgYiEY_aF0aSlcIi2QsPEA Note:Google's very strict with fraud clicks to make sure not to try anything funny with them. You'll only lose out in the end. Another important factor is how fast the ad networks are. Some ad network's ads are very very slow. These can be detrimental to your website's overall performance. Where? Ads should be placed in a comfortable position to both the webmaster and the visitors. It should be non-obtrusive and should not disturb the experience of visiting your website. More than often, people put many many ads on their website, hoping for more revenue. But in the end, it drives away their visitors. A good place should be probably at the left or right hand sides of your page. Try not to put them at the top or at the bottom. At the top, it ruins the visitor's impression of your page. At the bottom, it will probably never be seen, unless you have interesting content at the bottom. How much is enough? I would recommend a maximum of 2 ad netwroks placing their ads consecutevely on your website. As I mentioned earlier, if you have too many ads on your website, it will only drive away your visitors. This is because, the ads will be menace, rather than a help to your wallet. And if one ad network goes down temporarily, your visitors will still have another network to click on. 1 ad network is fine, but most web pages have enough space for comfortably placing ads for 2 networks. Ever heard "2's a company, 3's a crowd"? Images or Text Link ads? You should always keep in mind that images always load slower than text. Although mroe than often, the difference is negligible, always keep this fact in mind. Especially when there is high internet traffic in the area of your web host, this difference can be very noticeble, or to 56kers. But images can make your site looks more vibrant and interesting. Some image ads are quite comical too. It can be quite interesting to have funny ads on your site. I would recommend having 1 image banner ad and 1 text link ads. This would provide a good balance. Last words Ads are not for everyone and not everyone likes ads on their websites. If you like ads and an extra source of revenue, go for it. If you hate ads on your web, don't force it. This is more of a personal choice than of anything. Don't let the money force you to put nasty ads on your website. This is just a small contribution from my about my knowledge and advice on PPC advertising. Hope this helps..... Feedback welcomed......... -Shackman
  13. Google is quite sensitive to fraudal clicking. I guess it can be very stressfully for the webmasters too.....especially if you have to tell people not to visit your website, or don't even tell people you have a website..........Although Google has a reputation too keep, which can be understood, their system should not be so sensitive as to banning an account from honest clicking, such as an incident in one of the previous posts. He had an increasing number of visitors, so by logic of course his clicks will increase.....!I don't know what to say about Google......good or bad, you decide....-Shackman
  14. I'm using Misty and Sams Cash. If anyone wants to sign up, please use my referal ID. I can also be found at my signature. http://www.mistyandsamscash.com/pages/index.php?refid=yuka My username is yuka. You don't stand to lose anything, so please help me out! Thanks a lot guys. -Shackman
  15. They are doing a service to the public. Nothing wrong with that. Xisto too. They mostly exists not for the money, but more for the warm feeling the heart after helping someone else.Correct me if I am wrong...But it's nothing wrong earning revenue at the same time......... Any comments?-Shackman
  16. I design my site for a 1024x768 resolution. This is far by the most common resolution people use. Furthermore, a 800x600 resolution will look better as opposed to a 800x600 resolution looking at a 1024x768 resolution page.I try to make sure that my page looks okay on IE 6.0 and Mozilla. My 2 cents....-Shackman
  17. Yes. Using a better scanner help. But if really don't have access to a scanner, you can try using (in Adobe Photoshop) a filter effect. Although this may change your picture quite a little, it is better than nothing. At least it adds an artistic sense to your picture. If you like, you can post the picture up and I'll see if I can help you with it. Regards,Shackman
  18. It is basically a system where advertisers pay you to put their ads on your site. The only condition is, your visitors must <- snipped -> for you to get the money.That's about it. Regards,Shackman}

    Phpbb

I use phpBB2 too. phpbb2 is more simple and easy to use as compared to the other forum software. However, IPB is more advanced and as mentioned earlier, easier to organize on a large scale as compared to phpBB. IPB is more for the advanced users who can fully utilize the full potential. phpBB2 is for people like me, non-coders.One example would by the control panel. IPB's one is way more advanced than phpbb's. IPB would be good for a computer forum(or something related to computer) and phpBB would be good for the lesser computer inclined community.-Shackman
  20. Firefox is cool. I am using it. I love firefox. However, the only downside is that not all sites are displayed correctly in Firefox. I guess the sites were not made with Firefox with mind.Firefox is free and in my opinion, more secure. As many of you guys, IE lets in a lot of cookies and Active X controls. Java applets too.I mainly use Firefox but when I find a webpage distorted, I open it in IE. The bottomline is, use Firefox but don't dump IE.-Shackman
  21. Yeah.......I am very sad too. Suprnova was a great site. It always had about 75% of what I was looking for. I am still missing it. But I guess for the internet and commercial IT world to move on, the shutting down of Suprnova was necessary. Thanks to the people behind Suprnova. You sacrificed yourselves for the rest of the world. Very noble indeed.-Shackman
  22. Having your own ads on your site is allowed in Xisto. I think the best way to earn money on the next is through advertising. I am trying to look for a reliable CPM advertising network. Any recommendations? I am trying AdBrite at the moment. It seems quite good. I'll let you guys know how it is as time passes.-Shackman
  23. I think Google is fine as it is. It really created a big hoo haa with its Gmail. Now I keep a close eye on Google. I can start to find common ground with dark. I was searching for the term 'yamato' recently. IJN Yamato is a Japanese Battleship. Anyway, the search results did point to something about Yamato, but most of them were commerical sites. Some examples are sites selling 'Yamato Modelling Kits' and other merchandise related to the ship. My point is, if I'm going to buy these stuff, I would have searched something like 'Yamato modeling kit' or 'Yamato merchandise'. All I wanted was to find out more aobut that warship but was given a slew of commerical sites instead...-Shackman
  24. I play Diablo 2 too. I love the game. However, I still feel that Diablo was somehow better...Anyway, the Amazon and the Druid are my favourite characters. The Amazon uses range attacks. This way, you do not need to go near the enemy. My favourite part is that you can fire an ice arrow at the boss and use a few high damage fire arrows to finish him off. Simple and easy. The Druid too. You do not need to get your hands dirty that often. Most of the time, you can get your minions to do the work. I equip the Druid with a bow so he does not need to do hand to hand combat.Overall, Diablo 2 is a good game. Can't wait for Diablo 3....-Shackman
  25. It would be cool if Google could provide something a little better than Geocities. That would be the ultimate. Google will become very popular because of that. I think Google has a future in web hosting. The only issue is keeping Google alive. With 1 GB e-mail, a serch engine and many other features, will Google colapse out of over-service?Just my 2 cents. -ShackmanPS: Xisto is still the best web host.
