Should Religion Be Updated? debate modern religion today (poll)
Joshua replied to Joannespw's topic in General Discussion
As Ravi Zecharias likes to say, God doesn't expect us to commit intellectual suicide. Some people seem to think blind faith is involved for some reason, and while having faith without sight brings a blessing, not all, like Thomas, need believe that way. Examine this verse carefully to see what the Bible says about questioning what the Bible says: Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. -

What do you use to prove it inaccurate? However, scholars have long seen Biblical information proven right time and time again. People believed the Bible was lying about ancient Ninevah being so great a city... until they excavated it. Luke is considered one of the greatest historians in history because of his attention to detail and exact naming of places, times, and people. As Josh McDowell points out in his book "More Then A Carpenter," (great book for historical proofs, I highly recommend it) someone once tried finding a city Luke told of without seeing what he said of it and looked all over the area, unable to find it. Then using his description which included descriptions of terrain and an old well they found the exact location even though they'd been searching around the area unable to find it. In the Old Testament and what is probably the oldest book of the Bible, Job, which is believed to be written around the time of the patriarchs when Abraham lived, it gives multiple animal descriptions and speaks of rain as coming from clouds, elsewhere in the Old Testament it speaks of the "circle of the earth," if people had read the Bible they'd have realized the earth was round. Ultimately if you are unwilling to believe you will not be convinced, it takes a step of faith just like it does to believe in evolution, indeed more faith I believe for evolution and that "in the beginning, dirt" rather then "in the beginning, God." -

Paul debated with the Greeks and their version of piety in Acts, they worshipped "unknown God" and Paul declared to them who it was they ignorantly worshipped. The fact of the matter is that it was right in the middle of Greece that churches were being started and Paul was a frequent visiter to the area. Some Greeks believed, some didn't. So why do you bother surviving then if there's no other point to it? Because your nature drives you to? Why so, if there is no hope? God doesn't condemn us for questioning, He condemns us for sinning and rebelling against Him. I don't think any of us fully realize just how great our sin/rebellion against Him is. Every time you've gotten mad at someone, enough to kill them, you are guilty of murder. Every time you've lusted after someone you're not married to you're guilty of adultery and defiling God's sacred institution of marriage. Every time you'd have stolen from someone if you could have gotten away with it you're guilty of theft. And God didn't build the nature of sin into us, we brought in on ourselves by sinning and rebelling against Him in the beginning and even from our youth take up where our ancestors left off in deliberate sinning and rebellion against Him. God is just and He cannot let sin go unpunished, He cannot allow the disobedient to ruin His new creation as the old was ruined, by our disobedience. He could have simply destroyed us then but chose to die for us and rise again so we could still escape that judgement. -
Yeah, I think you're thinking of cerulean, very bright, vivid blue which I listed as another color I like, though not as much as green. It's kind of the color of the green/blue windows theme but a bit more vivid and sharp. I think green and blue go well together btw

Airports Begin Ban On Cigarette Lighters... This is crazy
Joshua replied to JaVe's topic in General Discussion
It might also be that in an enclosed space like a plane if someone sneaks in a cigarette or something everyone has to breathe the smoke, meaning they're subjected to the risk of lung cancer unwillingly. Personally I like the idea of no lighters on planes, of course I don't like cigarettes either, so... -
Probably milk for me, then any kind of juice, then water, and I might be open to trying something like an energy drink too I suppose. I don't really like pop although Dr. Pepper isn't too bad. Would have one of the 1st 3 mentioned though.

Couldn't the barber be shaved by someone else? And wouldn't this then eliminate the paradox so that the town could exist?

)....Perhaps it's your browser settings? 155036 It says it for all pages, the main one for Xisto as well. Maybe it is my browser, would explain it. Alright, thanks, was just curious, I checked the source for one of the pages and didn't see anything about it for the header files and what not and didn't see anything, so I wasn't sure what was going on with it. 155038 Yep, must've deleted them half a dozen times already this morning. When a page is loading slow (and they have been a lot today) I tend to delete the TIF's in the meantime, sometimes it seems like it makes the page load faster.

Stupid Science Teachers discuss stupid science teachers
Joshua replied to WeLoveFord's topic in The Vent
Sorry, may be a tad off-topic, but I can't resist the urge to get into the Bible Sometimes the Word needs to be told, not read to break through to peopleL Romans 10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! Of course, reading and searching the Bible while questioning it to see if such things are so, if done with an open mind, is also good, if one can do it, and the doers are called "noble" Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. -
The Bible specifically states in Galatians 3:28 that neither race or background or gender make you different, we are all one in Christ Jesus once we are born again. In 1 Samuel 16:7 it says that man looks on the outward appearance but God looks on the heart. If people like you would follow His will there would be no prostitution and putting others down like that for your own self-interest, it's because people rebel against God and live immorally that He did give the Old Testament Law. It's because this world is so evil that God has appointed a day in which to judge it in which all not born of faith who have been changed so they have the love of God in their hearts will be cast out so they cannot ruin the new creation He will make. If you would read the Bible you would learn of those specifically appointed by God to be even judges like Deborah and who even saved the nation of Israel like Esther. One who was quite active with Paul in his missionary journeys was Priscilla. So often I hear people attacking the Bible without the slightest clue of what it says. If you did indeed read Genesis as you say you would notice God punished both Adam and Eve, he didn't single out either one but considered both responsible for their sin. Society is like it is because of rebellion against God by people like you, and yes, like me, we are all guilty of death, the difference you do not realize with that last post of yours where you say Christianity is about missionaries trying to convert people so they won't go to Hell, is that going to Hell is not dependent on what you can do. We are all going to Hell regardless unless we trust in Christ alone for our righteousness, if we are trusting in what we can do, good works, we will never find eternal life. God loves His children (born again believers) and expects them to serve Him out of love, not fear. Through Christ the punishment for sin was laid on Him, if we accept Him as Lord and Saviour, else we are still the enemies of God because of our rebellion against Him, and His wrath abides upon us.

Stupid Science Teachers discuss stupid science teachers
Joshua replied to WeLoveFord's topic in The Vent
I've had only 2 actual science classes before in my life, one in 8th grade and the other in 9th I believe it was. I did also have an astronomy class and a meteorology class though. Never had anything to do with chemistry, so I'm not particularly science-oriented. -
Thanks, 3 days now and this is my first official welcome. It's appreciated I read the forum rules pretty thoroughly and have liked what I saw, more strict about enforcing no-profanity and no-spamming rules which is no problem for me since my posts often tend to look like small novels I haven't had a chance to see the web hosting but am sure it will be great, just looking at sites listing the different web hosts I've had a chance to see what else is out there and I have no problem believing this may well be the best that is out there.

When you say women's rights, what precisely do you mean? Some people use that term and mean things on opposite ends of the spectrum. So could you further elaborate on which rights are "just not fair"? These "rights" wouldn't happen to interfere with the rights of anyone else, like children, now would they?

Ah well, there goes the neighborhood There really ought to be more green-lovers here I read in a magazine about how someone was handed a crumpled paper and asked by this guy wearing mystic's clothing to name her favorite color and to pick a number from 2-4. She picked blue and 3 and when told to open the paper found blue and 3 written inside! As the columnist mentioned, the favorite color of most people is blue and 3 is the most popular number for people, or more so than 2 or 4. Seeing the results so far brought that to mind once again. Just an interesting factoid for you all.

It does seem eerily topic-less... Maybe the theme of it is decoded and hidden within the subject body, needing only an expert at deciphering to unlock its mysteries?

I love the game of baseball and hate to see this hypocrisy hanging over it, if they're going to keep Shoeless Joe and Pete out not just of the HOF but of baseball itself the least they should do is ban Barry and his merry band of juicers. At the least, stop the hypocrisy. People talk about Pete Rose as an ex-con (tax evasion I believe) but I believe he genuinely loved the game more then just about anybody, even if he did make some bad choices. He played harder then maybe anyone, and his nickname "Charlie Hustle" was well-earned. The guy would sprint from the dugout to the field every time in practices! What's sad is he's still around and wants to be involved in the game he loves if only as a coach but still can't. Meanwhile Barry is insulting reporters as being mad at his steroid-using self because they don't want to see a black man have the Home Run record. So what is Hank Aaron then? Lol.
-
What do you consider a "real" sport? Do you consider things like chess, golf, and figure skating sports even if they might be called such or be in the Olympics? Why or why not?
-
Am I the only one who finds it hypocritical that guys like Bonds, Giambi, and McGuire are now known to have used steroids and if punished at all have gotten only a slap on the wrist? They are not banned. Pete Rose on the other hand is out for betting on his own team to win, and can't even manage a baseball team? Shoeless Joe is out because he supposedly threw the World Series despite hitting almost .400 in it?

Why does it say "Replying in What Sort of Music Do You Listen To?" at the top of all Trap 17 pages?
