  1. That doesn't explain Internet Explorer though. Microsoft thought they could invent their own web standards with IE and didn't even bother to work around the standards properly until IE6, and even then the outcome was poor. Its only in IE8 that the designer doesnt have to worry about hacks. In fact, I had to modify a stylesheet to get a site to render correctly in Firefox3 when IE8 rendered it properly (older versions would have crumbled though). Its quite shocking when it takes the worlds leading software provider two full versions of IE to start behaving properly.
  2. I personally think .com is the best however Godaddy has done its best to market as many TLD's in a particular fashion to increase their profits i.e. .TV for television when really its for the island Tuvalu.
  3. I learned HTML back in '98 as a way of putting my flash movies online. As I created more flash cartoons I learned a little more about HTML and kept the ball rolling. In around 2002-2003 I began to rewrite my knowledge of HTML according to that of web standards and have used standards based design ever since.I initially learned HTML from Dreamweaver, using the WYSIWYG aspect and switching to code view to see what had happened. I am entirely self-taught.
  4. You seem to be confused. First of all web design is not web development, therefore a designer wont ever need to worry about coding javascript. Also, the 'next big thing' will more than likely be discovered by someone who would hire you, a web designer is a go between but the project manager is the guy who has the ideas and makes things happen. Personally I wouldn't focus your education on web design, especially as a major because as soon as you leave college how will you compete with guys from India charging $20 for a design? As for the topic at hand, I believe the future of web design is not a good one. It has been run into the ground by the sheer number of people able to design and build what is called 'web 2.0' designs. There has been a large lack of creativity from the web design community as a whole as everyone focuses on using muted colours and crisp lines - how many web designers can create something truly spectacular? I can't remember the last time I saw a design that drew me away from the content, which would be self-defeating but also goes to show how mundane everything currently looks online. That said, I agree entirely with what networker said too.
  5. SEO URLs don't affect SE results directly but they help a user who is performing the search as they can read how relevant that page is prior to clicking the link. Also, there is no proof whatsoever that a valid (x)html design will outperform an invalid one. That's an absurd statement, especially as you gave no backup.
  6. I disagree. In my own experience whenever I don't smoke marijuana I suffer from sleep deprivation for two nights and only after those two nights are over can I sleep a third night. I believe it is mentally addictive, it is not that easy to give up. Moodswings are commonplace when not smoking. But as i've said, the threshold for me personally is around two days and then i'm fine. Also, the whole 'it can make you schizophrenic' argument is flawed as it only speeds up susceptibility to schizophrenia, it doesn't cause it which is a common misconception. I disagree with the legalisation arguments entirely too. Sure I want it legal, but the arguments used to get it legalised I will never agree with. I don't want it legal for medicinal use only and I don't want it to be taxxed to the high heavens - just that the idea of making nature against the law is entirely flawed and its on those grounds alone why I personally want it legalised.
  7. Rappelz is an awesome free MMORPG, the pet system rules!! Link: http://en.rappelz.webzen.com/intro7/
  8. I personally find that Wordpress and Joomla (with SEO URLs) have the fastest index rate out there. I've made sites with static html, simple php, non-seo scripts and nothing has been indexed as fast as those two systems. As long as you submit a sitemap using google Webmaster tools your content will start getting indexed within hours.
