Can You Suggest A Good Video Tutorial To Study Php And Mysql
Staldon replied to tinoymalayil's topic in Programming
If you want video tutorials, the best place is youtube. It is the one stop shop for finding and viewing all types of video tutorials, be it PHP/mysql/photoshop. Most of the authors post their videos on youtube, as it is a free video hosting site and thereby they also save on the bandwidth of their website. They also get free publicity. So all these things make youtube the best place for finding all types of video tutorials apart from the usual things there. For learning coding such as PHP, written tutorials are best and for something which deals with designing, videos are best. -
How Do I Change The Icon For A Website?
Staldon replied to Alex Cicala's topic in Websites and Web Designing
It is called Favicon (Favorite Icon). You can check this post. You need to add this code inside the head tags. <link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/; If the icon is uploaded to webroot, then you need not add the code, just make sure that it is named "favicon.ico". Usually you need to delete the cache to see the changes. Check that post for more info. -
I am planning to create and develop a community website soon. I want your views and opinions on, which CMS is best for a community website? I have two choices, either Drupal or Joomla!. Both have thier positive and negative points. The community will be having articles both by admins and users. As for the forums, I don't want full fledged systems like PHPBB or VBulletin, so built-in forums would do fine. I basically want total control on the customisability of the CMS. I would be adding some PHP scripts, so I want to know which one of these CMS blends with the custom codes easily. And at the same time the user interface and post controls should be user friendly as the main users would be newbies.Even though I have checked out these CMS's, I want someone who has used it on thier site to tell about this. Also I saw someone telling about a hacked site on Joomla! So I would also like to know, which one of them is more secure.

HTTP Servers Whats your favorite?
Staldon replied to spacewaste1405241471's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I have only worked with Apache. Its the best product in the web servers category. Everyone knows it. I tried IIS once when I was a beginner. I didn't use it, because I code in PHP, and Apache is the best one for this. About other ones, even though they are not used by many, but there are some companies who have adopted those servers and may be for that reason they are still in development and used. As this thread "HTTP Servers" lists many of the servers, may be an update about thier usage would be nice, so here it is: Apache as of April 2009 has a market share of 45.95% website, that is 106,368,727 sites running Apache. This graph highlights the details: Source: Netcraft The latest entrant into this market is Google Web Server (GWS) which is being used in all of its websites and services like blogger, google groups etc. Its the modified version of Apache. Note that GWS has not been released to public. There are two other servers which have popped out recently, one is QZHTTP (running millions of chinese websites under qzone.qq.com) and the other one nginx (from russia). Edit: Some facts about QZHTTP: It is a proprietary web server developed by Tencent. QZHTTP is not QHTTPD. It entered into the market with a bang shaking the regular monthly survey results of netcraft. Its a chinese only technology with no downloads as such in English, probably it will never be so. In the month of February, when this was released, there were only three domains running those millions of subdomains under it. A Slashdot discussion about this: The Chinese (Web Servers) are Coming. Run A Webserver From Usb-stick On Windows Guide
Staldon replied to bakr_2k5's topic in Computer Networks
For setting up a portable server I would recommend Server2Go. It has been specially made for setting up quick portable server. You can show your web applications directly from the CD or if you have it on USB you can work on it right away without installing or setting up anything. It does include the basic necessities like Apache, PHP, MySQL, Mod Rewrite, GDLib and other extensions for PHP. -
uni.cc domain service has been down for many months. Only recently the reason they give seems to be more attractive and interesting. This means the services are in thier final launching stage. May be we would soon see it offering the wonderful service again. Before that they used to tell that they would launch the service once again in some X month. And after the month would have passed they would change that to some future month. Anyway what they offer is free service with no ads. I think they would have done extensive improvements in thier service by now and also are well funded (I don't know whether they went short of money). Yes the already existing domains are working. I think thats the way to keep the users trust. Wishing them good luck. Edit: Their subdomains which they offer to users aren't frozen. May be the site you checked has some problems.

I too had this problem with my old Pentium 3. But the problem was much more severe. Firstly there was no proper earthing in the electric socket where the PC was connected. So, I would get electric shock if I touched any part of the metal CPU casing or monitor. I used that PC in that condition for two days and it just gave up. The I immediately got the earthing repaired. But still the PC didn't boot up. The same thing as yours no beeps, no BIOS. I tried reassembling and it worked but when I fit everything and cover the case the PC won't boot. Then I was told that there might be some loose connections in motherboard circuitry. So I carefully reassembled every part making sure every part was in its place and properly seated. During this I observed that the RAM sockets were a bit unresponding at times. May be thats where the problem is, which I don't know for sure till this day. Anyway it just works although I rarely use that, may be occassionally when I try some freakin stuff. Coming to your problem: Are the RAM modules are of same speed? Did you try them inserting one by one, if any of them worked? There would be still more things which would make into troubleshooting checklist. May be somebody else may post them. Good luck. Edit: You can try this google search.

Mirror's Edge is a unique game ever released. Unlike other games this game offers high degree of freedom of movement of hands, legs, etc. Although it is an FPS game, it would be better called as action-adventure game. Generally games of this type like Prince of persia, Tomb Raider are third person shooter but in this game you get to play in first person mode with hands and legs visible in front. This adds to the feeling of realism. When you jump across the buildings you actually feel it, unlike in third person mode. The game is a bit short but its so much fun to play. That was a nice review Herbert. It would be nice if you would give the rating in the scale of 1-10, so that readers may know your overall liking and review of this game.
