New PC, if you have not installed much stuff I would start from scratch, save your files, and reinstall Windows XP Pro. If you are unable to reinstall, suggest running your Virus and Spyware tools. one of my posts which talks about spyware tools: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/84093-topic/?findpost= If you have recently added new hardware or installed software I would suggest looking for the newest drivers from the manufactures site or uninstalling the software to see if the issues go away.

How Can I Lock My Winxp By Using Ctrl+alt+del
Klass replied to jedipi's topic in Websites and Web Designing
The initial post was windows 2000, but when mentioned of Windows XP no one bothered to ask if it was Professional or Home.Windows 2000 ProWindows 2000 ServerWindows 2000 Advanced ServerWindows XP ProfessionalWindows 2003 ServersAll use Windows Key + L to lock the computer.Windows XP Home uses Fast User Switch, Logoff, etc. when using the Windows Key + L.When I read that Windows +L is just a shortcut key for fast user switch and will not work if u have it disabled from User Accounts. I was a little lost as it works on my XP Professional Machines.Hope no one was consfused with this, and I wanted to clarify that it does work in Windows XP Professional. -
Your first post contradicts your second post. You say you need 2.5 but the toshiba's you posted are less than 1.8. Like dungsport says do not go with celeron (it is the cheaper more afordable) processor. You should check out Dell XPS These are for gamers but if your going to be doing video editing, or playing pipeorgan then it will work as well, if not better. Hope this Helps

Quick suggestion, check your bios and make sure that it is set to boot from the Hard Drive. Sounds like you only have boot from CD rom enabled, and have Hard Drive disabled.

Quick Suggestion,Rick Click My Computer select Properties, look for the Hardware Tab, then click Device ManagerMake sure you have no conflicts, and all your drivers are installed correctly.was Windows XP ever on this machine before the reinstall? If so did it work perfect with out he issues your talking about?Did you browse the internet before upgrading to SP2 or installing any spyware removal tools?Possibly a Hard Drive issue, would get a diagnostic of your specific drive and test it out.

Windows Look-alike On Linux Are there such distributions?
Klass replied to Inspiron's topic in Operating Systems
If VMWare is not required "yet" try just installing Linspire on the computer itself. If the issues still arises you could have a bad copy of linspire or some of your hardware is not compatible with linspire.I would try installing linspire directly to the computer and see what issues arise, if everything is ok then your issues is with VMWare.Hope this Helps.Klass -
If the way I provided didn't work the next option is what vizskywalker posted.

Right click on My Computer and select ManageClick on Disk Managment, Then look for the Mac drive you installed. (it will not have a drive letter) You should be able to right click on the drive and create a partition or format.Once formatted with the correct win type will it show under My Computer with a drive letter.Hope this helps.

Looks like the site has been turned off. I get: Seemed like a good thing uploading files and downloading from any computer or possibly sharing the account with friends or family to download and upload. We will see what happens with the site.

Those interfaces would be me going through them correct? i.e.. wall with metal studs, wall made of cinder block, etc.In my original post I am in the same room with nothing obstructing my view of the WAP or Laptop with a distance of 30 feet or less.I lose connection to the WAP which in turn disconnects me from the internet and LAN from my laptop, If I go to my Desktop I am able to access the WAP with no issues (i.e.. the web interface not wireless as my desktop is wired, laptop is wireless)

I posted this in another thread realating to the Computer just randomly restarting: 1. Check that your Virus Program is Updated and do a Full System Scan. 2. Download some free Spyware/Adware removal tools: a. Ad-Aware SE Personal b. CWShredder c. HijackThis d. Microsoft AntiSpyware e. Spybot - Search & Destroy f. SpywareBlaster 3. Not free but very good: a. NoAdware b. XoftSpy 4. Make sure Windows is Up to date: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx Also want to check this Registry location as well as the ones listed in the 1st post above: HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-3465555210-2527735589-1010642068-1458\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run S-1-5-21-3465555210-2527735589-1010642068-1458 will be different on all computers as well as for all users of the computer when you go to HKEY_USERS make sure you check each of these "not" the ones with _classes after them. Some/Most spyware hides here as well. Also check: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run- This must be done with the current user logged in.

What Do You Use For Web Programming? Frontpage, Notepad, etc.
Klass replied to Airlub's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I use notepad the most.Frontpage, Dreamweaver, Homesite are installed for my lazy days when I just want to click and add what I want and not actually type the code out.I have heard that frontpage is the lazy persons way to creating websites. I agree it is a little bit of a cheat, same with dreamweaver and homesite. They change the color of the code if it doesn't match or if the code is broken they have debuggers built in so you can debug your work before publishing it, but I love notepad clean and simple, no fancy gadgets or cool spiffy buttons to push nothing cluttered around my workspace.Just my 2 cents -
I learned HTML back in 1997 - 1998 with a Sony WebTV, and a HTML for Dummies Book. I am older and wiser now so I use Frontpage, Dreamweaver, Homesite, and my fav. Notepad. <html> <title>Klass's HTML Page for Vujsa</title> <body> <center>Hello World!</center> Welcome to Klass's HTML Page for Vujsa. Have fun!!! <img src="some image link here"> <a href="some URL here">some clickable link here</a> </body> </html> I miss my WebTV only bad thing it used Dialup, and now MSN has taken it over so I not like it too much.

I have installed the proper software for my Intel Card, from DELL which is Internal.I have installed the Linksys CD for my PCMCIA Card before inserting it. (Followed the Instruction sheet from the Box)The Linksys card is not a feasible option as it is PCMCIA and I need/want Internal.I have tried Channels 1, 6, 7, 11 on the WAP. I have also unplugged my phone from the power outlet, but the issue still persists.Once a week (so it is not always on) I get a rouge Wireless listed in my available wireless networks but I am always connected to mine to notice any issues.I also have the WAP in clear view of my Laptop with 30 Feet or less distance.I do not smell anything from the WAP and like I said I have swapped WAP's (I have tried 3 different WAP54G's from 3 different stores around my county, with and without the new firmware).Your last paragraph is good, but I have already tried 8 different Wireless Cards, whether internal or PCMCIA, 2 Mother Boards, and reinstalled Windows XP Pro.I am able to use my WAP at work which is a WAP54G with no issues with all 8 of my Wireless Cards I have tried. (Also took it home to test and received the same dropped connections).I think it is one of my neighbor’s Portable Phone causing interference. I am home around 4pm Eastern Time, and all day on weekends and that is usually when I notice the issues. Mostly after 8pm during the week.I will try switching my WAP Channels 1-11 and see if I can find one that works better than others.

I have a WAP54G Linksys Wireless Access Point running in G mode with the Latest firmware, with my only Laptop also using Intel ® Pro/Wireless 2100 LAN miniPCI Adapter G Mode Card built-in. I also have a PCMCIA WPC54G Linksys Card G Mode capable. It is running at 2.4 Ghz Frequency.I had a Dell Wireless 1350(b/g)WLAN miniPCI Card (Built-in) but recently had an Intel ® Pro/Wireless 2100 LAN miniPCI Adapter installed. The issue is:My wireless connection drops at odd times of the day and does not locate the Access Point for about 5 minutes, I contact Dell my OEM and swapped the Dell Wireless 1350(b/g)WLAN miniPCI Card 6 times, also changed the mother board 2 times, even went as far as reinstalling Windows XP Pro. Swapped Access Points also. Still same problem wireless connection drops.Contacted Dell again and they sent me Intel ® Pro/Wireless 2100 LAN miniPCI Adapter which has been working great except it to drops the wireless connection. The Access Point is located 20 feet from where I have the laptop, so distance and/or walls are not a problem as it is in the same room. I have narrowed a majority of the dropped connections to my 2.4 Ghz portable phone in my house, when it rings or I am on it I lose wireless connection. Funny thing now is I have disconnected my Portable Phone but yet I still encounter intermittent Wireless connection drops. The question is:What could be causing the continued connection drops? How do I locate if my neighbors are using 2.4 Ghz Portable phones? How do I block the portable phone frequency from interfering with my Wireless Network? How do I change the frequency my wireless Access Point uses?

Hardware Trouble Shooting A question on how to proceed...
Klass replied to m3ch4's topic in Hardware Workshop
Does the Computer power on? are there any audible beeps? (Does the Power Supply Fan turn on, does the light on the MoBo turn on "aka" flea light)If Yes, are there any audible beeps?Does the Processor Fan spin, do the drives spin up?If No,Replace Power Supply, and/or MoBo (Whichever is Cheaper to start with)If power on (processor Fan spins) but no Video try reseating the video card (unless of course it is onboard then replace mobo). If after reseating and still no video, try another video card.If still no video replace mobo.If no beeps, and video works, check Bios for HDD being found correctly, also Memory being found correctly.Hope this helps, sounds like a Power Supply if it is not turning on, but then again it could be the Mother BoardIf it is the power supply take it out of the case and use the part numbers on it to order a new one.If it is the Mother Board, make sure you order one that will work with the memory already in it, and the power supply. -
If event viewer does not show any errors, then it could be spyware/adware, or even a virus that is causing it to restart. 1. NoAdware b. XoftSpy 4. Make sure Windows is Up to date: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx Search the web and you will find the Microsoft AntiSpyware on Microsoft's site, the link is not allowing me to make it clickable.
