  1. Hi there!Do you know a good software I can use to rip a video DVD and edit the contents to make smaller videos? I received a video in DVD and I need to divide it into smaller videos and publish them on the internet. The original video is about 45 minutes long. I tried Total Video Converter but it freezes and nothing happens. Also, do you know if it's true that you can upload videos only as long as 10 minutes to YouTube? Thanks in advance for your help!
  2. I started a post like this some moths ago. In fact I thought you were replying to my post  Anyway, now I've been using Photoshop and Illustrator for some time and definitely they're way better. If you're a beginner, you'll find Corel easier, but for power users, professional users, the clear choice is Adobe's suite. The bad thing about it is the price tag but if you or your company can affort it, don't bother wasting time comparing. For some reason Adobe is what most pros use (more powerful and less buggy). Oh, yes! and the other bad thing is that they're not as friendly as Corel, but you can get a lot of tutorials from the web nowadays. Best regards!
  3. Thanks for your suggestion! I think that Microangelo is in fact the one I used years ago! I'll look for IcoFX.
  4. Hi there!Anybody knows a good software for designing icons and cursors for Windows Vista?I downloaded a trial of PC Icon Editor, but the developers have still a lot to learn about how to make a program friendly and intuitive. It has practically no online help and I don't even see any tutorials on the web. I can't figure it out! =( I used to have a powerful freeware program for icons and cursors, but I lost it in my old PC and don't remember the name. Thanks in advance for your advice!
  5. Thanks for your comments! I'm using AI and PS CS2 too indeed. And the web was made with Frontpage 2000. No big deal. Only basic html's. It was meant to be very simple (almost minimalistic ) so that it didn't take me a lot of time to put it online and was able to load fast although it was very "graphic". And the best suggestion I can give you is to use the internet a lot to find the leaders in what you want to do -in this case, logos-, and then try to imitate them. It's great practice to clone something you like. Now, if you can get the original files it's much better because you can see how they managed to get some special effects. For example, if you go to micro stock sites like http://www.istockphoto.com/ca/landing/unsupported you can purchase very professional vector files, which you can open and analyze. That way you learn a lot from the best. The second step is to practice a lot and if you can't do something use the internet again and try to find a tutorial or make a post looking for help... which reminds me I have to post something like that here in Xisto And keep your mind open. Sometimes we think a logo must be very simple in terms of color and shapes but today people use them a lot on the net and print full color stuff for little money, so you may use special effects like shadows and make your designs look better (if the style suits the company, of course). Again, take a look at what others are doing well! All the best,
  6. Thanks for your comments! In fact, I'm freelancing in a website, so I only give the URL to the people who have an interesting project I can work in. Also, I wouldn't like all the competitors to check my designs. And most important, if I give any contact information before I get a project I'll be penalized in the site. Your observations about the lining are correct. I'll try to fix it. Thanks again!
  7. Hi guys! It's been a long time since I don't post in Xisto, I know, but this crisis has had me working my *** out Anyway, I'm back and I'd like you to please review my site (proudly hosted at Xisto, of course). As you'll see, it's become an online portfolio since I'm freelancing my graphic design services (the crisis again!). You won't find any contact information there, which was made on purpose, but you'll find a lot of logos and mascots and other weird things. Please don't pay so much attention to the quality of the draws, but to the design of the whole site (should look modern and professional). Any suggestions (not too techy) will be welcome. If you wish, you can take a look at the logos and let me know your opinion about them too. B)Thanks in advance!
  8. I don't know. The original one had it, so I just left it there, where it was. I thought you had some sort of advertising agreement
  9. I had a wireless pocket pc that couldn't connect to my Wireless LAN at home unless I didn't use any security So I just "hid" the network by disabling the SSID broadcast ("Enables the wireless network name to be broadcast publicly to any wireless users within wireless range of your network. Disabling the SSID broadcast makes the network name private and provides enhanced security by requiring wireless users to enter the network name manually when creating a wireless network profile on their computer.") and didn't use any security. It was like that for a long time and I never had any security problems.
  10. Yes, the best is to put a semi-transparent layer with your name or logo on top of your original art to protect it. If you use a presentation like Buffalo said, or a java script disabling download of your images, people can still use ctrl+print screen and then paste in Photoshop an image of your web, then crop it to fit your art, and voil? !On the other hand, there's some kind of digital watermark too that puts the information of the owner of the image in a single pixel of the file and then it restricts its use somehow, but I think that's too sophisticated and won't be useful for most of us
  11. Well, I'm afraid you weren't close (fortunately for me!), I'm younger and married and my kids are much younger too . However your comment is useful because you're the 2nd person who thinks my nick is about a Digital Dad. You're not seeing that little "i", it's Digitalidad. It's some kind of new word in Spanish which would mean "Digitality" in English I think that brand is not as good for a site in English . If I translate it I'd rather use another word in English! When I first saw your sig I thought you were a guy in his 20's who had a website about jokes or gossips and either liked to draw or didn't want to take any copyright risks with his graphics and decided to draw his own portrait.
  12. Well, after all these years I've learned that drawing is all about proportions and most important, about practice. Practice makes perfect, so keep on practicing, look for inspirational works (you can do it at Deviantart.com), try to learn from what you see other people do right and that's it! I'm sure that if you like it, you'll progress very quickly at your drawing. By the way, please check my gallery here and let me know if you like something and maybe I can tell you a couple of tips too Thanks for your comments!
  13. No! The end of the world as we know it will be in year 2000! Wait... That's already passed! Just like many other dates that were supposed to be catastrophic. Mayans were a very advanced civilization. They had great astronomical knowledge and they used the zero before many other cultures did, for example. The thing is that I don't think anybody could predict the end of the world or a catastrophe so precisely. I like to think they were thinking about a change in consciousness of the human race... however... that was supposed to happen in 2000 too, I think. They called it the start of the Age of Aquarius I think. Also, how do we know if people are interpreting their message right? I mean, talking about Nostradamus, we don't really know what he meant in a lot of cases because he wrote in a mixture of French, Latin and other languages, I heard. And nothing was clear and precise. You have to figure it all out. So... for example, after WW2 people said: "Oh! He was talking about Hitler and WW2! Look! It's so clear!" But we could know only after it all passed! Maybe we just tend to put things together so that they sound logical or even magical. Well... we're only humans after all
  14. Hi, guys! I'd like to include in my website a space for readers to give their opinion to each of the comics published. I've seen many sites using this kind of "blog" lately. Here's an example: Example At the bottom of the news, you'll see a section called "Comenta esta nota" (comment this news) where you can post your opinion. How does that work? Do I need to hire the service from another company or can I implement it in my site which is hosted with the basic plan at Xisto? Is it difficult to do it? Can I get the code from a php programmers website or somewhere else? Thanks in advance for your kind help!
  15. That's great because I want to enter the tournament too, but I was too busy. I hope I'll have the time to make something good soon. By the way. Did you draw the Skyline in your sig? I didn't think you were so experimented at 3D design! In fact, I've been wanting to make a 3D car since a long time ago, but I don't think I'll have enough time for this tournament, so I'll have to submit one of the hand drawn cars I've made or maybe a vector car I hope I'll have a chance against you two. Saludos!
  16. Well. This kind of e-mails are very common nowadays, however they're very easy to spot indeed. Just look at the link they ask you to click on and hover your mouse pointer over it, your mail client will show you the URL it's pointing you to. If the URL is not in the presumed sender's domain (https://www.paypal.com/de/webapps/mpp/home or something very similar in this case), most probably it's a trap.I receive tons of e-mails like that everyday from Paypal, Spanish banks I don't even know, eBay, etc., etc. Sometimes just for fun I follow the links and go to the forms they ask you to fill with your user and password and instead of that I just write some dirty words they deserve However, it's better not to click on the links at all.
  17. It would be great to have the following powers:Being invisible at will (just for fun) and immortal in order to learn soooooo many interesting things like in the Highlander series. Now, it would be nice to have super richness too (like Bill Gates) in order to help poor people and invest in getting the panacea. Am I exaggerating???
  18. My first computer had Windows 95 but I had some vintage games I liked a lot. For example Maniac Mansion and Outrun. Do you remember them? The first one really rocked though I played it more in my brother's NES than in my PC.
  19. I've been using Chrome for the last months because it's the only browser that seems to be stable in Vista - at least in my laptop. But SM is right, it's just too light. I miss a good amount of customization options. However, in the end of the day I think it's not so bad. Only... after browsing thru several sites, after some hours it seems to get blocked as if you had no internet connection and I have to close it and re-open it. I wonder if that happens to anybody else.
  20. Well. You're right. Earth changes by itself with no need for us, destructive humans. It's natural. Remember that the only thing that is constant is change And yes, change is happening. A swiss guy I know told me that when he was a child he used to see the Swiss Alps with snow at the top most of the time and now they hardly ever have snow. On the other hand, they talk about global warming one day and next day they tell you it's the coldest day in the last 50 years! Weather is crazy!
  21. Thanks, guys! Yes I actually draw the comic. I'd like to get a Wacom, as some of you know, but for the comic I used only an isograph and recycled some sheets of paper, then scanned the artwork and edited contrast levels and clipped in Photoshop.
  22. ... In fact, they're not a dad and his kids. They're 3 grown up guys and that's the style of the comic, but thanks for the comment! BTW, beautiful new sig that of yours!
  23. Hi, pals! Finally my website, Digitalidad.com -proudly hosted at Xisto.com- seems to be taking shape, so I changed my sig accordingly. Please let me know your comments about it. It's not dark like most of the sigs I've seen here, but that's just the style of the website and everything needs to be alike in order to be professional. (Too bad the site is in Spanish only by now).Regards!Voil?, the new sig:
  24. Here's a little gift for my dear friend Echo of Thunder. I hope you like it -and use it-, Echo. Also, critics are welcome. All the best!
