  1. I keep my Windows XP to a minimum regarding apperaence and effects so I don't see why I would use an operation system that has even more effects and elements that would slow down my workflow, bare in mind that this is just an operation system, it does not suppose to overflow your system and take CPU power away from other processes simply to show some effects.
  2. I don't see why people get so paranoid about an automated script scanning your e-mail and showing you ads, this is not a person doing this it's a computer, nobody is watching your information and nobody is infriging on your privacy, there are so many people not using gmail because of that paranoia and I think it's ridicules.
  3. None of the links work for me, is there a way you could upload them somewhere else? ImageShack for example
  4. Seems like there are a lot of advertisements popping up on me, but I guess that would change one you get hosted on Xisto.Other than that, the website is too textual for my taste, I think I'd like to see some pictures as well, it would be much more visually appealing. Also, you might want to change the green theme, it doesn't look good in my opinion, but that might be just personal taste.Just my two cents.
  5. It would probably be browser independent, I don't really know as I don't know how to do this, but since it would be a taskbar application as opposed to a browser addon it shouldn't matter what browser you use. I understand what you mean about it possibly being counter productive, I was thinking of it simply as a mean for a user to be on top of things and know where his status stands, but if it might cause users to contribute less to the forums than I suppose it's not such a good idea. Just a thought.
  6. Hello. Can you please clarify something for me? The rules state: Staying active means you must contribute to the forum at least once every two weeks, and visit it at least once every week. Failure to doing so will result in your account being suspended or removed. Taken from: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/77393-welcome-to-xisto-open-discussion-free-web-hosting/ Is that how it works or would I get one hosting credit deducted every day? like the system they have at Xisto The reason I ask is that I find different information in different places and I just want to be sure which is the right one so that I can follow the rules once I get hosted. Thanks.
  7. There are many people who live without computers, but I think that for first world countries its getting more and more difficult to get along without them, schools now require that students submit printed works or even submit them by e-mail or to a forum (I know I've had one class that insisted on that), so in effect every kid during his school years is exposed to computers. As for me, I know that when there are electrical power downs I get really frustrated, because if I can't use my computer and I can't watch TV there isn't much else I can do besides go out and ride my bicycle. In the future I think, I hope, that there will be more advancement in the virtual reality field, I'm probably one of the few people who actually bought a home version of a virtual reality helment, which was really bad by the way.
  8. Basically, you get so much space so that you won't need to delete anything, even if you send a large file to somebody or receive a large file, in other e-mail services your first instict will be to delete it to conserve space, in gmail you have to power to keep it so that it become archived and you have access to it even if it gets deleted off of every local device.

  10. Hmmm... you lucky PS2 owners, I'm still waiting patiently for the PC version, coming June 7th, I've marked the date on a yellow sticky note on my desktop
  11. Starcraft is a great game and one of my favourite real time strategy games but I believe the game that every RTS is compared to is actually Dune 2, the game that pretty much started the genre
  12. I'm old enough to have played the first Dune, but I only played it for a little while before getting bored with it, on the other hand, Dune 2, that's a whole different ball game, it is one of my favourite real time strategy games, and I still enjoy playing it even today.
  13. Well since you posted in the game programming section I assume you want to learn a program that will enable you to create games. So my suggestion to you is Game Maker, although it is not a programming language per se, it enables begginers to get into the world of programming with more ease, gain experience, and than either stay with the program and make more advanced stuff or move on to more robust programming languages. You should definately check the Game Maker community at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and get some impressions from the hundereds of available games to download.
  14. I would recommend Microsoft Visual Basic as it is an easy to use development enviornment, and a lot more logical and readable than C\C++, I've been working with it for many years to create all sorts of private solutions for myself, especially when I am required to make reptetitive operations, using VB I can quickly whip out a perfect solution.
  15. I've got:Grand Theft Auto 3Grand Theft Auto Vice CityGrand Theft Auto San Andreas (just kidding, waiting patiently for it )Call of DutyMedal of Honor Allied AssaultCultures - 8th wonder of the worldDiablo 2IL2 SturmovikKnights and MerchantsLocomotionRoller Coaster Tycoon 2Roller Coaster Tycoon 3Settlers 2Settlers - Heritage of KingsStarcraftTransport Tycoon DeluxeIn the Playstation Department I only have Castlevania - Symphony of the NightAnd in the GBA division:Castlevania - Circle of the MoonCastlevania - Harmony of DissonanceCastlevania - Aria of SorrowThe Lost VikingsGolden Sun 1 and 2
  16. Even though it is not in your list, I would have to say my favourite squad based game is the game Call of Duty, it is a world war 2 based shooter which puts you in the boots of american, british and russian soldiers.I recently finished it, My favourite part of it was the fight over Stalingrad, which was really realistic and really threw me into the heart of the battlefield.
  17. I would highly recommend the 3D software I am currently using which is 3D Studio MAX by Autodesk\Discreet.It is a leader in the modeling and animation market, and it is a one stop application for most if not all of the operations you'll need to do.The recent update, version 7.5, added Joe's Haircut and a Shave hair system as well as an improved version of Mental Rays, a previous update also added an enhanced cloth simulation addon. Please be aware that 3D Studio MAX is a professional software, and you can not expect to simply jump into the world of 3D right after launching it, it takes a long time to learn how to create in a three dimensional world and gain enough experience before moving on to large scale projects. You can check out my portfolio (in my signature) for some work done with MAX, bare in mind that it is not complete yet, at the moment I have just one animation and one model there as I did not have enough free time to add everything yet.
  18. I think that Messenger 7 in conjunction with Messenger Plus is a great setup, gives you lots of features such as the ability to set custom statuses, auto-accept file transfers (excellent when you are away from the computer and want someone to send you a file), custom names for people in your contact list and many others.I'm also using a program called Toaster which changes my comment field to whatever song I am listening to in Winamp, as well as an application I built myself which changes my personal picture to the album cover of the song I am listening to.
  19. I'm using Gmail exclusively now, I've abandoned all my other mailboxes as Gmail is simply great.- I never need to delete anything- I can always search for mails, all the way to the first mail I sent\receied- Uses a DHTML scheme that works very quickly
  20. My favourite is Super Mario World 3, I have a video of a guy who finishes the game without dieing once and with 99 lives.I don't think platformers are dead, they just moved from the commercial scene to the amature scene, check the Game Maker community for some platformers of varying qualities. Some, Like your truely, are even selling their platformers, my game is called Captain Genia and is close to being published in europe.
  21. Heard of it? I only played through the entire series about 5 times It is a most recommended series for everyone even remotely interested in adventure games. If you enjoy Monkey Island, you should also look at: Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max hit the road, Grim Fandango, The Leisure suit Larry series, and the Simon the Sorcerer series. all of which are excellent adventure games.
  22. Hi Everyone.I have a suggestion which quite possibly have been suggested before. My suggestion is to have an e-mail reminder sent out to users who's hosting credits are below, lets say, 4 points. that way, users who can not return to the forums frequently could still be aware of their credit status and avoid account suspension, it will also help bring back members to the forums to post.Another option, which sounds best to me but might be harder to acheive, is to create a small application that sits in your task bar and displays your current hosting credits, each user would only need to enter his forum username and password in the configuration panel of the software.Let me know what you think and if this can be done.
  23. I would have to say Starcraft, not so much playing as watching replays of other people play, it's a lot of fun to see what kind of strategy each army is taking and how it all plays out in the end.
  24. Are you refering to the expansion pack for Call of Duty or is that a whole new game in development? I've recently completed the original Call of Duty and it was such a great game, I loved the missions where you fight in Stalingrad, especially the first one which really puts you in the battlefield.
