  1. I think that FrontPage is more suitable for kiddy kiddies. Microsoft Corp. never ever will learn to respect its costumers. The same things is valid with Windows! Like they all want to code for illiterate people!I prefer DreamWeaver. Great software. It is designed both easy to use and flexible with a lot of help resources installed. Comparing FrontPage with DW is like to compare MS Movie Maker with Liquid Purple!
  2. Thank you for your kind guidelines. Yes, the code with tables looks indeed messy! But as I described in my earlier posts - hiding somewhere in this major trap! - I use Qupis and to install a CMS by hand is a total torture there so I had no chance to test another possibility at all. Besides I am a newbie in web design and I appreciate everybody who teaches something to me!! With that out of the way, finally I could fix the tables using margins and cell paddings, even I could define opacity in my menues in both FF and IE, by manipulating the CSS main files. Thank you all for taking care of my question. Regards, Cyrus
  3. Hi! We have a website for our chess club - V-FEC of FICS - and recently we have decided to add a cookbook to our website! As the webmaster, I am glad to share the latest recipes with you. The following recipe was written by shivaroxxx (Scott) of FICS for our club: Apricot Pineapple Jam Start with 3 cups puree fresh apricot, add 1/2 cup lemon juice, 12 20oz can crushed pineapple and a package of gelatin. Put on the stove on very close to high. Once it is boiling hard add 8 cups sugar and continue to stir. Once a full rolling boil is going again, continue to boil hard for 4 minutes. Let cool slightly and then skim off the foam. At this point, rack into pint jars using the hot jar canning method for 10 minutes under boiling water to insure a good seal on the jar. Cheers!
  4. Hi,I recently added PmWiki to my website. It is a great software, both light-weight and useful with a lot of extensions. But a thorn is still in my side which is the attachments problem. When I upload photos in a page the attachment just shows up like a text link which points to the uploaded image without any image display. So I got stuck where I decided to make some profile pages for my club members.Anybody here knows what to do?I have a little experience with PmWiki but I suggest it to you if you do not want to be over killed by a system like what Wikipedia uses!Your help is appreciated.regards,Cyrus
  5. Hi again!Recently I noticed that IE and FireFox display table layouts in different ways. It is a headache for web designer to add some compatibility for the issue. Currently I have some problems using tables in my website. For example FireFox adds 3-4 pixels to my table width where IE display is clean.I use some CSS mixed with HTML normal tables and want to customize my PmWiki theme to integrate it with the rest of my website.I appreciate any help.Thank you.
  6. Hi,I'm running a website for our chess club. Recently we decided to add a feature for members to simply enter their tourney results there but I do not exactly know how to do it.The first problem is how to create form for people to enter their game results. I just have an idea that working with drop down menus is faster, esaier and more precise than typing the information. The second problem is how to make these results search-able?Let me tell you the final problem which is the worst of all that is I do not know how to build a member area. Because Qupis does not support Fantastico and manual installation of any CMS software is a waste of time I got paralyzed totally. The only feature which is running is a version of WordPress which allows a limited member area to post their blog items nothing more.Is there any simple, light-weight solution for me to have a member area in my site? (I don't like forums there just a simple "Members Area").I have to add that I tried manual installation of some PHP tutorials but they were not what I was looking for. I appreciate any help.Cyrus
  7. Hi,Let me put it this way that the language you choose does not matter at all.Bahaii ( a Persian writer) once wrote 500 years ago:One who does not say a word and applies his will is a real man.One who first speaks about it and then applies his will is a semi-man.Well! Let's prove to those we love, that we love them not by words but by the deeds we do. By our look. By the way we greet them. By the way we kiss them. By the way we share our joy and depression with them. After that I can simply say to my fiance "dooset daram"
  8. Hi, I do not know how long you did wait and did not see your site indexed in Google. But if you have waited 3 to 4 weeks and still nothing happened then you may check this little note out. Do you have any external links to your website - except here I mean ? You can go to your dashboard in Google Webmaster Tools and check if Google has detected any external links to your site and then follow the cause. Websites with more external links are supposed to be indexed faster.
  9. Hi,I think this Cuil.com with that amount of fanfare around is not - at least for now - such a prize. I tried our chess club name in addition to the keywords chess, club, etc and the results were not that good.1- I first tried the club name itself. Unlike Google Cuil did not suggest a spelling correction - because the name is some kind of abbrv. - and showed unrelated results. 2- When I tried the club name + chess the results got funny. Everything was about "chess" and nowhere you could find they keyword "[clubname]"! If you try Google with the same keywords it will not show you a link to a Muddy Waters album ) Totally unrelated! The Cuil engineers say that because of the black background Cuil will nurse your monitor's pixels for free. OK! What is the use of good pixels when you cannot find a relationship between Muddy and a chess club named X after all?I think Cuil is a furs which will turn to tragedy soon.
  10. Hi,I tried to install Google Chrome web browser on my Windows XP computer and faced the following error each time:"Access to this application is restricted."Well! I do not exactly know where this comes from but I guess that it is one of Google's racist issues. As I tried from my home country Iran, some Google services like Google Code are not available due to bans that the company has put on particular advanced services.Because the installer first comes from the sub-domain code.google.com I think that the same cause also applies here. The question is if it is the case why they accept Iranian companies' ads on their website and make money? Why they allow their advertisement services to be used by Iranian companies? Why Fire Fox, Safari, and IE 8 do not have any restrictions for Iranians and Chrome does?I hate to be paranoid but sometimes I feel that people at Google want to try our patience.
  11. Hi,I'm wrestling with the same issue for some time. We want to import our XLS files if possible to a MYSQL database and make them search-able. By the way I had another question that someone here may know the answer and that is how to invert this XLS file into TXT format to import it to MYSQL anyway?Thank you for your help.
  12. Hi,It was too technical for my little head but I tried to figure a way to create good passwords and remember them easily...Consider a verse of a song that you love, that you chant easily...Who can hold a fire in his hand and think to the frost Caucasus?OK!Now look at this: W!c@H#a$F%i^h&H*a(T)t!T@f#CPretty complex huh? You can memorize it by a simple pattern and there are many nice verses that you know that you can use.Just a little experience! Good luck with your password,CyrusX
  13. Hi, Firstly you have to go to https://wordpress.org/ and download the latest stable version of wordpress available and then unzip the folder on your local disk and then upload the files to the server by some FTP client. (if you have Fantastico or other installer on your server just click on the wordpress and it will install the blog system for you.) In both cases you have to decide whether you want to install your blog at the root of your website or not. It means that do you want wordpress to be the main content provider of your website or not? If yes, then when anybody enters your site URL into his browser the first page he will see will be your wordpress blog front-page. After you uploaded the files and read the readme.txt file inside the zip folder then follow the instructions. If you used Fantastico or other installer then simply go to your administrator dashboard and begin writing new posts. If you do not use a Content Management System (CMS) like Joomla! the only problem with any blogging software out there is that the look and feel of the blog will be different from the main theme of the website anf you are not familiar with PHP and HTML then you have learn some or leave it on its own. If you are using a CMS then many extensions are available for you to integrate your blog with the rest of your site. An example would be MojoBlog, a blog component that integrates with your general theme and will be naturally a part of your website. I hope this little note will help you a bit. Regards, CyrusX
  14. Hi,I think the first thing that you should be familiar with is the algorithm. What is an algorithm? How to write one? And more important: How to write a good one? There are many good books out there to help you develop your skills in writing good algorithms. Secondly, if you want to program in C++ and create some games with it I think that's the wrong way to begin. To write a simple 1982 game with C++ text code you have to write hundreds of lines of code and finally you have something that was of course an attractive game two decades ago!So, I suggest you to focus on algorithms instead of coding by now. You can study how to code in C or C++ smoothly beside that and you even can use some gaming software -many of them available in free trial mode - to visualize a copy of what you imagine for your games. This way you will be familiar with the grammar of C++, its philosophy, different platforms, gaming software and at the top you will become familiar with the core of every attractive game - and program - that is: algorithm. If I get you correctly that you want to create games then you must develop your creativity too by writing short action stories or at least some story lines. Be your own scriptwriter dear friend. At the end I have to mention that you must be familiar with essential basics of computer graphics too.And do not forget that most of the time programming in languages like C++, needs a team. You can split the code into smaller entities and then share them with your interested friends and proceed.Good luck!CyrusX
  15. Hi shadowx, That's true my friend. Here on my browser it subtracts 19 minutes from my clock! And it is not only the shout box clock but the site clock at the right corner of footer is also showing the wrong time.
  16. Thank you dear shadowx. But in that forum it was said that it is under "control" and never mentioned that all posts need an admin approval. Anyway thanks for help again my friend. I suggest just like the hosting application forms something like a brief message can appear in front of the post, saying that it's there for sure and admins will take care of it. People love these stuff. Also more detailed error descriptions makes it a better user-friendly system I think. Take care. Bye.
  17. Hi,Recently I encounter a problem with the forum. Topic titles and topic descriptions are not accessible to be modified by the writer. I think it is a good idea to add this feature to the forum or in case it exists please give me an advice how to do that?Thank you.Regards,CyrusX
  18. To whom it may concern, Dear sir, Strange things happen after the rollback thunder and it still makes things disappear. No logic at all. Today I posted a topic about Safari we browser. The link is there on the forum list but I just cannot open my own post. Elf? UFO? Rollback? Whatever it is, it gave me the following error: Board Message Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information. The error returned was:Sorry, some required files are missing, if you intended to view a topic, it's possible that it's been moved or deleted. Please go back and try again. I got crazy my friends! Thanks for my credits back and my hosting approved but, the child inside wants to see his scratches on the wall, doesn't he? Yours sincerely, CyrusX
  19. Not quite a "safari" tool - safari comes from the Persian word "safari" means "something suitable to use for a traveler" - with its size three times more than the last version of Mozilla FireFox, it promises a "clean look" and also "no more concentration on the browser but on the web itself"!The look and feel of Safari web browser is not what you expect from Apple but it has a taste of Apple's previous hits like Quick Time with clean outlines and easy-to-use look. The progress bar is integrated at the top with the address bar, a bit confusing and new, but still evey thing new cannot be called an innovation indeed. There are no tools at the first run to import your favorites from IE or Mozilla to Safari which does not approve it that much for a traveler. Also you have to check out every single top menu to find where the "Options" category is listed. i think it is more dumb-ready rather than to be easy-to-use to put a category in some menu that other browsers' users cannot easily find it.Safari claims that it is much faster than IE and faster than Mozilla FireFox. Firstly I myself do not count IE as a web browser anymore, and secondly I checked it against Mozilla FireFox and no visible difference in page load speed appeared. When you load web pages in in Safari web browser the fonts look bolder and the colors are more vivid than IE and Mozilla FireFox. Safari is designed not for the customers over-seas, by it I mean those who use any alphabet rather than the Latin alphabet.I tested Safari for some right-to-left scripts like Persian and the result was horrible in the text boxes. Letters that should be written right together fell apart but when I posted the thing it looked fine in the result page. Although the result was fine but the user cannot easily preview what he has written before he could post it. That is a minus for Safari. With all said above Safari still stands three steps higher than IE which needs two patches a week to be secure and is pretty much faster than it in loading the web page.Do you love Safari? Share your interests with me and help me re-install the software again!
  20. Hi, Excuse me if I let myself judging you or anybody else feelings who has experienced the same problems as our friends here described. May be I know some code but for sure I'm not the one - the pure one - to give somebody I do not know an advice. May be I need it more myself. I just want to quote a poem by Moalana (Rumi) my beloved poet of Persia (Iran). (The translation from Persian into English is mine and of course not that good, I just hope that you can find this helpful and feel that we have shared some feelings before even if we never knew it). He says: I am not feeling well now. May be tomorrow I come back and write a few lines more. Sincerely, CyrusX
  21. Hi, Using third-part software to provide file and folder-level security..Mmm.. It's not the solution I usually recommend to users. What I actually recommend is what I described in nearly full details in this same topic. But to offer you some solution I will try to open a path to your lost files if you are using Microsoft Windows 9.x, Me, 2000, NT 4.0, XP (all four editions), Windows 2000 Server, or Windows Server 2003. (I know how it feels because I lost my files once dude.) To begin, please go to Start>Run and then type "cmd". The Windows command prompt appears. Then change the directory with "cd" command and enter the exact path to your desired destination when you think you lost your files and press Enter.(If your files were/are in a different volume rather than the default root then first change the hard drive and then proceed with the instructions.) At the prompt type dir /a first and press Enter(or Return key) to list the main directories along with the hidden files in your folder. If it scrolled up use a pipe like dir /a | more to see the directories page by page. If you cannot see your files go to the next step. Type cls and press Enter to clear the screen output and then type attrib -h /S /D without braces and press Enter. The attribution of all hidden files in the directory will be set to visible. Try again using "dir" from the command prompt or simply close it and browse with Windows Explorer to see if your files are there again. (more help on command "attrib" is available by typing help attrib in the command prompt.) If you are still unable to see your files then open command prompt again. Change the directory to the desired destination and then use attrib -s /S /D to make all super-hidden system files visible. (This action is not recommended for Windows beginners.) If it does not solve your problem again you might be infected by a virus. The settings are still available from the Windows Registry but it does not recommended if you are not an advanced user of Windows.Let's help each other. Chekhov once said: "Happiness does not and should not exist. If life has some meaning it is not to reach happiness. But it is to do good things for people as much as you can...". May God bless your soul. Regards, CyrusX
  22. Hi, If you are using a shared computer and do not want to allow other users to access your files, and you have Windows XP Professional or Windows NT 4.0 installed on your computer then the following procedure may help you: (The procedure for Windows XP 2000 Server or Windows XP Server 2003 is different.) Requirements: (You have to log on as an administrator or as a member of the administrator group to perform the following operations.) You must have NTFS file system on the target hard drive which your folder(s) are stored in. If you are not sure which file system you have on that hard drive then right click the drive from My Computer and then click Properties from the menu (see Figure. 1) and proceed. If not you can easily convert your desired FAT or FAT32 drive to NTFS using the "convert" command from the command prompt. (More help on this command is included in your Windows OS Help and Support Center.) Figure. 1 Right-click the folder you want to set as private and then click Properties from the menu. Click the Advanced button and then check the box which says: "Encrypt contents to secure data" (see Figure. 2) and then press OK. Press OK again. Figure. 2 If you have followed up the procedure correctly the target folder will show up in green and you are done. Now your folder will not be accessible for other accounts on the same computer such as guest accounts or other administrator accounts. Nobody except you will be able to decrypt, copy, modify, open, or execute them. At the end I want to share a common problem with you that I faced it once and I lost all my own encrypted short stories, articles, and poems. Do not forget to decrypt your files or save a backup to a FAT or FAT32 hard drive, or write them to a portable media, before you decide to install a fresh copy of Windows. I wish you a great time. Regards, CyrusX (The original material and photos offered here do not provide any guarantee for the user. It is a little note just to help others. Any possible damage caused by this procedure will be the user's own responsibility.)
  23. Hi, The procedure recommended by the respectful "electriic ink" is helpful but in case it did not solve your problem you may try these steps as well: Try to close programs running in silent mode, or close the Tray applications and try again. Go to Start> Run and type "msconfig" then navigate to Startup tab and remove check boxes for those programs which are not vital or necessary for your computer to boot or run properly. Then restart your computer and try again. Also you can stop some rare used services in msconfig by going to the Services tab and repeat the same procedure for those services which may not help but consume some memory to start and run. It could be the first step but it is not that late to check the minimum requirements to run the software from a readme.txt file or another resource on the web. Your system may need higher resources to run the software properly. I hope this little note could help you a bit. Regards, CyrusX
  24. Hi, As Saint Michael explained to you in the shout box - I will not copy/paste his words here because I'm sure he can explain in the best way he can for you - there could be some problems with special characters in passwords. What I personally saw and experienced was that like in Qupis the username and password for the Billing Account are differ than the ones you use to log into the CPanel. I was confused a bit and after a while it was just a help from above that I could remember the CPanel password. The best way to protect yourself against such loss is to save your account information in your well-known mail box - with some hosts you will have a lot of them to memorize like the billing (managing) account, MYSQL databases' usernames and passwords, CPanel password, FTP accounts, etc - so, as I said it will be very easy for you to recover your lost password if you do not want to spend - as dear Saint Michael said - 15 credits to reset your CPanel password. (Some free hosting providers use the same username and password for all the items counted above, but even in that case it is a good idea to save your information integrated in a PDF file for later recovery.) Also some hosts do not allow more than 8 characters for CPanel passwords and it was possible for you to use some known password which was longer than the limit and after the error, you had to cut it off to fit in 8 characters and now you cannot remember the right one to log in to the CPanel. I hope this little note from a personal experience may help you a bit my friend. Regards, CyrusX
  25. Hi, You can try the following procedure to see if the target host is down or it is available on the web: 1- If you use Windows XP Professional or Windows NT 4.0 go to Start > Run and then type cmd to open the command prompt. 2- Type ping [servername]. Type the command without braces. 3- Firstly if you saw this:Ping request could not find host http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. Please check the name and try again. then try the same command for some known on-line server like for https://www.google.de/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=BwkjVKfAD8uH8QfckIGgCQ&gws_rd=ssl, if you saw a different message containing information about the host then the first server is down: Example for a running website using the ping command: C:\Documents and Settings\CyrusX>ping https://www.google.de/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=BwkjVKfAD8uH8QfckIGgCQ&gws_rd=sslPinging https://www.google.de/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=Hx04VLLFBsPB8gfFqoE4&gws_rd=ssl [209.85.135.104] with 32 bytes of data:Reply from 209.85.135.104: bytes=32 time=226ms TTL=238Reply from 209.85.135.104: bytes=32 time=224ms TTL=238Reply from 209.85.135.104: bytes=32 time=224ms TTL=238Reply from 209.85.135.104: bytes=32 time=219ms TTL=238Ping statistics for 209.85.135.104: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 219ms, Maximum = 226ms, Average = 223ms So there should be nothing wrong with your connection. Secondly, nobody will blame you for a broken link! You can also try nslookup [servername] command to see if the server is up and running.
