Thinking about the future kind of stresses me out - mainly because I'm not totally sure with what I want to do as my future career. My parents are probably like many other parents, they want me to be the doctor/engineer/lawyer son who is super 'successful'. I'm getting closer to college so I'm at a point in my life where I have to start deciding what I want to do as a career. I think I probably want to do something involving computers but I'm not sure where specifically. I'm kind of going through what you're going through - confusion.I guess the only way to get through it is just get out there and start trying new stuff.Eventually, you'll find something that's right for you.

I don't really get that either. People know the negative effects of drinking and what it does to you but they just do it to be 'cool'. I haven't gotten drunk personally so I can't really make judgements about people who do drink. I do know that some people use drinking as a way to escape reality and feel relaxed or whatever. I do agree with the OP, finding something to occupy your time can get you away from drinking/smoking and stuff like that.

That's pretty cool. I looked at one of the screen shots that someone posted of it and it really does look like Vista. It looks like something I want to try in the future, but I don't want to do it right now because it will probably slow down my computer - with all the visual effects and stuff. I might give it a try sometime.

Are Girls Prettier Without Makeup? Vote & Say You Thoughts
bangms replied to lihuyt's topic in Health & Fitness
As many others have said, it really depends on the girl. Some look amazing without makeup, yet others only look amazing with makeup. On the topic of looks, I think some makeup can make any girl look better, but when it's excessive, then it can turn-off some guys. On the topic of relationship, then it's important that you don't expect your partner to be wearing makeup whenever you go out together or when you're at home. It's more important to get to know someone one on the inside that just relying on their looks. -
Wow, I'm surprised that many people don't like books turned into movies. I, on the other hand, don't get irritated when they get turned into movies. Movies made from books are just interpretations of the book from a directors standpoint. They're just trying to reach people in the same way the book was meant to. Well, money is also a big play in this, but I think it just gives readers a way to visualize what's going on. Even though some movies don't always stick to the book's plot/descriptions, they're just entertaining to watch. I'm not one of those people who sees a movie and starts critiquing how the movie didn't match the book, I just go to be entertained. Of course there are times when the movie is a total slaughter on the book, but generally, movies adapted from books don't bother me.

Someone made a good point up there.I think it was "How would we miss it if we didn't know it exists?"or something like that.Well for me, I personally don't think I'd miss game consoles.I mean they are fun and enjoyable but I think I could find something else to do.I'm not really into game consoles and handhelds right now.I find it more useful to use a computer for gaming, since we already use computers on a daily basis. (at least I do)

It sounds like a hardware issue, but then again, it could be an assortment of other problems. If you feel like you can try to troubleshoot the problem by yourself by opening up the computer, then go ahead and open up the case to check out if anything's wrong. If you're unsure about doing this and messing up your computer even more, then seek help from somewhere else. (You said your uncle worked with computers)You said your computer freezes right? So how far does it go until it freezes?Like what does it show when it freezes? Maybe it might help someone else solve your problem.

Official: Can't Access My Cpanel - Supports From Admins
bangms replied to bishoujo's topic in Web Hosting Support
I've asked this question a couple of times before but never got an answer, so now I'll post it in this thread...What happened to all the Xisto subdomains registered withing a week of the crash? You guys did say that you backed up the database from a week ago, right? So how about the ones that didn't exist at that time? Are we going to get them back anytime soon? I've contacted Xisto - Support but they told me to send an email to Xisto - Support. Now it's been almost 2 days since then and I've only had 1 reply which didn't help with the situation. Don't get me wrong - I know the admins are working their butts off to get this situation sorted out and I don't want to add to the problem by getting mad at anybody. I don't mean to blame the admins for this problem or anything. But I hope they get my site up soon. Notice from BuffaloHELP: Check my post at the end. -
Test Your Browser For Security take the browser security test
bangms replied to AnkitGoswami's topic in The Internet
This was pretty interesting. I tested my browser (Firefox) and it found no vulnerabilities, which is very good to know. Maybe I'll check Internet Explorer sometime later today. And just a question for others running Firefox...did Firefox block any of your popups or completely restart? It was kind of weird that I still saw the popups and the browser didn't restart even though I passed all the tests. -
Official: Can't Access My Cpanel - Supports From Admins
bangms replied to bishoujo's topic in Web Hosting Support
Does contacting Xisto - Support always reset your password without credits? Ugh, why didn't I know that before? I already spent the 10 credits to reset my password just to find out that my cPanel still isn't accessible. So if we want to reset our password, we can just go to Xisto - Support anytime? I never really understood why we have to pay credits to change our password, especially since most people do it because of support reasons. Notice from BuffaloHELP: No. Contacting Xisto - Support does not always reset your password. However, OpaQue is made aware of our situation and has instructed support staffs to assist me during resetting period. -
Current Situation With Trap17 Hosting Help, can not get to anything
bangms replied to NJ_STORM's topic in Web Hosting Support
So does anybody know what's going on with subdomains registered within the last week? I think I was approved for hosting a couple of days before the database crash. If they are gone, I don't mind making a new one - I just want to get my website up already. -
The reason I need the database on my local machine is because I'm running a private game server. The server uses the database stored on my local computer, unless I could direct it to access a database on Xisto - which would slow the server down. I want the user to be able to play the game as soon as they register, but I guess it is not necessary that they play immediately. I'm thinking that directly linking my PHP scripts to my local database would be easiest as Galahad suggested. I already have a static IP and I already have an open port for MySQL. So is directly linking to my database the way to go (and safest)?

Current Situation With Trap17 Hosting Help, can not get to anything
bangms replied to NJ_STORM's topic in Web Hosting Support
So does this mean that all Xisto sub-domains registered within a week are gone? I registered my Xisto sub-domain within a week. Do I have to reapply to get my sub-domain back or what? -
So I should upload my database and just direct all my php scripts to the database on Xisto? But then do I have to make my own script to back up the files on my computer? The Xisto database and my local database have to be in immediate sync - meaning they have to be updated right away - not manually. Would I have to script that myself or could I find one somewhere else?

I agree about the 'maturity' factor - if you believe they are able to handle the responsibilities of taking care of a phone without abusing their privileges. Generally, a kid should get a cellphone probably sometime while they are in middle school. Elementary school would probably be too early and getting one during high school is fine too but it would probably be better to get one before. I never had a cell phone until my freshmen year of high school and I really wished I had one at least a year before. You'll find it very useful to give your child a cell phone during certain situations. Of course there might be certain planning situations where you might have to give your child a cell phone at an early age because of dropping/picking them up.

I agree with what sonesay said about every school should have at least one campus security guard at all times including elementary and middle schools. Not like some cheesy volunteer security guard, but a legit security guard in case of emergencies like this. I think metal detectors are pretty extreme but a campus security isn't that extreme. And the whole deal about kids bringing fake weapons to school, that is so stupid of them. They need to be informed of the danger and money it causes the entire school which in turn affects the whole district and stretches out to students' families.

To be honest, I don't really read books. I used to read books all the time a couple years back but now, I find it hard to pick up a book and start reading it. To answer your question about what I read, I read internet blogs/articles/forums and that's probably most of the reading I do outside of school. I definitely think it is a good idea to read a more diverse array of books just to be more well rounded in your understanding of different things. If I were to choose a book to read, I would probably read some kind of informational book or maybe fiction once in a while. There's just something about picking up a book and reading that makes me uninterested. I guess different people have their own way of reading.

Wow. I didn't know that there were so many people like me too. My parents are like the original poster's, they think that I spend too much time on the computer and that I am only using for 'fun' and 'games' and stuff. Actually, I do spend a lot of time and do have fun on the computer but it is not only that. The computer is how I get my source of news everyday and how I connect with others outside of school. To answer the original poster's question about living without a computer today, I think that is nearly impossible. There are computers in many things today that we don't even think about - such as appliances and devices and phones. I probably spend about 5 hours a day on a normal school day and since it's summer right now, I definitely spend a couple more hours than that. But the time I spend is not just 'fun' and things like that. I treat the internet as an opportunity to learn and soak up as much information that I can.

Hm. I never thought about what's best about my school because generally, I don't like school that much. I think the best thing about my school is the opportunities I get everyday. There are many classes including AP courses that count as college credits (I go to high school) and many clubs to join ranging from National Honors Society to Crunk Village. Also, the people that go here are pretty cool and fun to be around and school is a great way to make connections with different people.

Hey,I used to play Maplestory a while back, but then I got into private servers. I heard that Maplestory just recently got a new update, right? Like some new features and stuff added. The biggest change to the game for me is the windowed mode. People used to use DxWnd to put Maplestory in windowed mode but they don't have to anymore. Have fun playing Maplestory! And btw, what job/class are you?
-
Hm. That sounds like a good idea but it sounds like a lot of advanced scripting. Do you think it would just be easier to directly connect to my local database by the way you suggested - using 'my_ip:port'? It wouldn't be too hard to change the scripts I already have and that way, I wouldn't have to keep two databases in sync. Would that be an option?
-
OK, I did some looking up about remote accessing and I found out I could use SSH/Shell . . . something like that. If I'm not mistaken, the admins disabled this feature on free accounts due to hacking attempts, right? So what are my alternatives to accessing my local database from my site?

I was with you, I wanted the Lakers to win the championships but oh well. The series was kind of boring, but there were some good moments too. Like Game 5 of the playoffs, the series was Boston up 3-1. Probably every Celtics fan thought Boston was going to win the championships that game but the Lakers came strong against Celtics and took the game making the series 3-2. But I guess the Celtics deserve the championship, they were a solid team with amazing defense and that's what led them to the title. And just to add to that news, Paul Pierce was awarded the NBA Finals MVP.

Is it possible to directly access my local database from my website? For example, if somebody submits info on my website, the info they submitted would be transferred to my local database directly. Is that possible? And if so, how do I set that up?The reason I don't want to upload my database to my subdomain is because it would be difficult to keep the website database and my local database in sync . . . or is there a way to do that? Thanks for any replies.

How Do I Get Rid Of The Placeholder Page? [resolved]
bangms replied to bangms's topic in Web Hosting Support
OK thanks galexcd. I got it fixed. I had to change my subdomain.
