Ubuntu certainly is a good choice, thanks to its sheer simplicity and user-friendliness. If you have some networking to put to action (specially wireless), I would recommend BackTrack3. I found a link here on trap, for downloading the ISO. You can either search the Trap or Google Backtrack3 for results. Anyway, my laptop has its native resolution of 1280 X 800 and the live CD iso that I downloaded automatically adjusted it as such, along with the rest of the device drivers. Try BT3 if you like.

Oh and sorry if this counts as spam, but I only just realized that the topic regarded 'explorers' as well. That would be Firefox. Hands down.

For me, I'd say the top three contenders would be : 1) 3Dmax 2) Meebo 3)NotepadOkay. 3Dmax should be pretty much self-explanatory. Meebo is an interesting tool that I happend to come across, a year and a half ago. Its basically a web based messenger (http://www.meebo.com/). They support multiple sessions at the same time, file transfer, webcam, chat-logs and now even chat rooms. The best part is their RSA Encryption and security features. You can read more about that on their blog. The links are specified on the homepage.Finally, notepad is the ultimate, low hassle text editor. Ever. I mean you can save names and numbers and info etc too, but the best part is that it takes next to none memory and you can write anything from Nursery Rhymes to php and java scripts.

This topic is pretty old, perhaps even obsolete.... abut I came across this interesting deal. This shop near the mall in my area is selling phones for unbelievable prices.... I saw a V3 being sold for Rs. 2200. Thats something like $35, US. I dunno what the catch is.... but the phone was alright. I checked it myself. And the guy who was buying it seemed pretty satisfied too. Talk about cheap.

Ah well, I agree that if it really is an advertising scheme by McDonald's, it really is pathetic. Then again, if you're on a permanent low calorie diet for about six months and it suits your metabolism, you're bound to lose some weight. And come to think of it no one ever heard he was working out during that time..... he just might have It doesn't hurt to have a backup plan eh?Anyway, I guess it depends largely on your metabolism and the diet that you're taking. And as far as McDonald's is concerned, I personally don't like the taste. Then again, I don't go for fast food much either.

Okay, so my first contribution to the Life Talk section is finally realized. What am about to say, however, does not concern with just a single 'Real Life Experience', but rather a collage of different occurances and my take on them.Taking things from ground up, I think, will make more sense. I'm a student. My daily life, these days atleast concerns mostly books, classes, friends, and all the other undergraduate you can think of. But fact of the matter is, I live. I breathe, I walk and talk and hence am a part of the society that constitutes the very mass that inhabits this particular piece of land.. and er... water. And thus, whether I want it or not, I see and experience a lot on which I would pass, if given the choice.Living in a country where inflation is rocketing every time you check it, is quite an interesting affair. A place where economic stability is quite akin to a reed bridge in billowing wind. Where a portion of the public is richer than the government. Where influential groups or individuals can get anything done, on maybe just a little more than a whim. There are countless incidents that I can quote, some that I myself have witnessed and quite a lot more that others have, that make you stop and think "If this keeps going on, let the bombs fall.."For instance, I'm not sure if public is like this everywhere, but here at the very least no one really lends a hand to someone in need. This guy was being held up on gunpoint on a main full-of-traffic road, with pedestrians passing by and all. The guy fished him clean; bag, wallet, cellphone and everything else the poor bloke might have, in a little more than 20 seconds and everyone just passed by. No one turned once to help.Now for a little different example. My cousin sat in an examination a week ago, in his university. Well, actually it was sort of a make-up exam as he was improving his overall GPA before graduating. This guy who sat in front of him raised his hand to call the invigilator, and when the pot-bellied, middle-aged Lecturer came to him, the guy muttered something to him and slipped something into his hand. Then the invigilator left. A couple of minutes later, he returned with a stack of Xerox'ed papers; handed one to him and then one each to several other candidates.A few minutes passed in silence, and then the guy turned around and asked my cousin if the paper was too hard. My cousin had prepared well, and so he said no. The guy insisted that he buy the solution to the questions in the exam, that had just come, out of (what he called) good-will and brother-hood. My cousin indignantly refused him again, finished his paper and got out as soon as he could manage it, while the other students (with full consent of the invigilators) copied from their ...er... Good-willed solutions.Moving on... I had a chat with my father last night. We were discussing the increasing trend in the price of land over the last couple of years; and the implications of the political instability on it. He knows quite some people in the governing body, and he told me that there is a very well coordinated mafia within the government as well. For example if you want to sell your house thats in a, say, prime location; you simply cant. Unless you get an approval from... say, someone called Mr. X (Who is ofcourse some high ranking official in the Development Authority Department of the Local Government). How do you get about doing something like that? Well, you have to prepare... how should I put this, an adequate fee (which is obviously paid under the table), for the majestic Mr. X.Things like these happen every day. They're common occurances. So common actually, that people have become somewhat like the virus that gained immunity to the anti-biotic. It doesn't affect them. They're either oblivious to all of it (or atleast some part of it), or they've become so accustomed to it that hey don't even feel anything out of place anymore.Whatever the case may be, God help us.

I took the liberty of going through most of the above posts, exhibiting the posters' opinions.I'll start by saying that I for one am not much (er.... at all) experienced at asking girls out, let alone dating. But that surely does not mean that I don't know the subject in question. My take on it basically revolves around the feelings involved.I'll give you a very literal example. I'm just about to graduate and get a Bachelors degree. A couple of weeks ago, I ran into this girl that seemed familiar. It turned out that she was an old classmate from school, who I hadn't seen for like six years. Right, so we hung out a little and I found her to be an amazing person. I mean, the time that we sat and chatted together, I felt that I could relate to her; and I reckon it was the same the other way around. I made her laugh and she made me feel exalted. I was wonderful.My exams were coming up and I knew that I wouldn't be able to see her, as much as I had wanted to. So I asked her if I could taker her out sometime, say, the dawn of July? And she said yes. That was it.Now if you could stop here for a moment and analyze this. See, I asked her to go out with me. I did not say as a friend or more. Thats exactly the point. I liked her the moment I spoke to her. Not because of her looks, or her social stature, but because of who she is. Because of the things that she said and did. And I asked her out so as to get to know her better. Back in school, when no one had much of what life had to offer, conversations are in very discreet packets that carry little meaning to them. But when you have seen life your way, and another has see it their way, you're bound to have a fusion or conflict of ideas. Thats what makes things interesting.Summing up, if you like someone, just because of their looks or something of the sort, try to probe further. Get to know the person, and use this to ask them to go out with you. Something like, "I like you and I'd really like to get to know you better. Will you go out with me". Be honest, be yourself. Don't pose. That way, you know you've done nothing wrong, and you'll be comfortable with whatever you say.And then, when you have made that special bond; value it, care about it, do not let it fall apart.Let Luck befall those who need it.

Do E-sports count? If so, you can count me in for a map of Warfraft III: The Frozen Throne called Defence of the Ancients (More commonly referred to as DotA). I've played the Local Leagues here in my city, and also participated in th ESWC (E-sports World Cup) this year. Just might try the WCG too (World Cyber Games). Lets see what happens.Now, if you count the physical sports, I'm in to Football (Or soccer, as people in the US call it), Table Tennis and a fair bit of Cricket. Swimming just for recreation.

The Lord of the Ring saga is, in my opinion, one of the best tales weaved through time. I started off with The Hobbit and read the series all the way through to Return of the King. I am a great fan of the fiction genre, but what sets this particular series apart is the sheer amount of detail that is incorporated in the storytelling. Tolkien sure was one heck of a writer.Take Rowling's Harry Potter series for instance. I mean, I am a fan, and the books are a very important part of my life, but if you look at things at a rather grander scale, you'll see that LotR saga transcends generations. No, let me correct that. Eons. You'll see hordes of different races and each one distinct, thanks to the detail in which they are explained. And then there's the manner in which the story unfolds, the dialog and the ambient settings. Harry Potter is a book for everybody, not just kids. LotR on the other hand, well, let me just say that the more you've experienced life, the more you can relate to these books.And as the market trend goes these days, any well selling book or movie is transformed into a game, and Lord of the Rings is not an exception. I played two games of the franchise, one action/adventure and the other an rpg, and both were satisfying. At least on the movie front.Once again, hats off to the master; Tolkien.

It is very important to understand the subject matter and realize all the variables and possibilites, when voicing your opinion about a given topic. I, for one, dont have the exact or precise technical know-how about cloning (complex organisms, that is) but to some extent I know it is very benificial to mankind. There are various types of cloning, cloning of plants, cloning of animals and even cloning of human organs.In my opinion cloning of animal and plants is of great importance as it provides with the best traits of these organisms and in this fast moving era we cannot risk unproductivity. But i am not at all willing to accept the cloning of humans! No one would want another of themself walking arond, living the person's life. And what if the clone is stronger than the human and decides to overtake him, live his life, then what will be the use of such clones?!

It was quite a disappointing point when I saw no one gave a favourite to God of War and MSG3. But then Solidcinu pops in and does it all. Thanks mate! I'm not a console nazi, I think that its the games that make the consoles sell. But as far as the question of favourite PS2 game goes, I'd like to point to a few of those.... * Metal Gear Solid (2 and 3) * God of War (1 and 2) * Shadow of the Colossus (and its sequel Ico) * Devil May Cry 3 * Black * Final Fantasy (X, X-2, and XII) Black was the best looking FPS on PS2 in my opinon. The level of destruction and geometry mapping was amazing. I mean, its mind boggling to think how the developers suck that much power out of Sony's black little box. Same is the case with God of War 2 and Devil May Cry 3. They incorporate some of the best 3D sprites on PS2, and considering that a lot is going on in the games at any given time, the games run at and unwavering 60fps. Shadow of the Colossus, is a Colossus in itself. Leagues and leagues of open grassy plains. Mountains and hills, beautifully rendered. Its a sight to behold. The AI is superb, storyline amazing and is just...... It has that "Oomph" factor to it. I recommend you play Ico before this. As for MGS 2 and 3, I've always been a great fan of Kojima and Shinkawa's work together. Thats the main reason I gave Zone of the Enders a shot, and I was hooked. Same happend when I played the Second installment of the ZOE franchise. Amazing pieces of art. The first Final Fantasy game that I played was FF VIII, and that still is one of my all time favourites. If this topic was about favourites, regardless of platform, I'd definitely mention FF VIII. FFX and X2 were a nice experience, but FF XII took the thing to a whole new level. It re-defined the Turn-based mechanics of the FF series so far. Also, the graphics, AI, gameplay, and the gameplay LENGTH are the contributing factors to its success. I think it has a gameplay time of 120+ hours. I've never been much of a GTA person, but that doesnt mean that the game wasnt good. Scoring 9+ out of 10 means serious business. Cheers!

Compliments to CrazyShooter for that enlightening tutorial.Its a very important factor in teamplaying games, to understand the versatility of the players and their preferred equipment. People normally think that an sp (thats what they call a Sniper, where I live) is a sitting duck without Assaulter cover. This type of thinking leads them to lose the round/map. I'm an Assaulter in my team... And I know my Sniper very well. I know that when he's stuck in a very compromising position and we cant get to him in time, he thinks rationally, and takes steps accordingly. Sometimes its important to feel, rather than brood on mechanics. He basically prefers a Deagle or a USP as a sidearm. Deagle more, because of its Muzzle Velocity and its ability to shoot through walls and such.I'd like to agree with most of the comments here that say its good to switch to your sidearm or knife after a shot, as it decreases the time you need to reload. Also, it's advisable to double duck while moving as it takes you faster and doesnt make noise. Though, when about to take a shot, walk, stop, shoot, and scram- technique works well :DQuick-scoping (I guess thats what you guys call it), is called "Flicker" here. Pressing both buttons at the same time, so that you see the scope for a fraction of a second and you shoot the same time. It is also a very useful method.But as a strategist, I'd like to point one thing out. Even if you are a Sniper, you should have command of the assaulting weapons as well, because if you dont then in the worst case senario, you'll end up saving the whole match and not get an AWP or even a Scout, that you can keep for long.Hope that helped!

I've been playing WoW for a while now, and my Paladin's grown to 70 lvl. Apart from that, I'm playing Metin-2 these days. Its a pretty good MMO, considering that its not mainstream, but actually going on Oriental themes. Now as for Conquer, I've heard quite a bit about it on the Trap, and so far all I could find are great comments. I'll probably give it a shot after I'm done with my Exams.

Heh. Well, I agree that this has been one of the more morbid topics that I've seen on the Trap, and I could just go ahead and say what kind of death would I prefer. However, I'd like to stop for a moment and share something with all of you. There are a lot of people who fear death. Take pain for example. It is an unpleasnat feeling, and many dont particularly enjoy it. Its the same with death, as I see it. Its the fear of the unknown. Its the fear of losing everything that we know and care about. So basically, if you accept that there is a time for everything to go and realize that nothing is everlasting, and you make most of your life as long as you breathe, I don't suppose dying will be much of a hassle. I'd just prefer a quiet, peaceful death (Sound familiar?). And "after all, to the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure" (Albus Dumbledore)

Its good to see conversations like these being struck up. Atleast a part of certain misunderstandings are being resolved. I agree with most of the above said comments, and I'd like to point out some things as well. Humans will always be humans (unless we evolve to another species :/), and thus the difference in ideologies will be prevailent. This however, is no excuse to disregard the basic foundations of humanity. There will always be extremes, and therefore extremists. People will try to mutate and violate the laws and codes of religion to their own selfish desires, ofcourse which is not acceptable, not just in Islam, but in other religions as well. I am a Muslim, and a part of the non-extreme. The way I see things, these terrorist bombings and such are not Jihad (Holy war). Islam does not tell a Muslim to kill innocent civilians. Still, the pages of history are splattered with the blood of countless, nameless innocent souls caught in the mid-riff of extremes. This has to stop. And unless we start to understand the reasons and means of peaceful existence, its going to be very hard indeed. I just hope that the higher ups realize it before its too late and we have another major world war. With the current economic and political situation worldwide today, we sure are walking on pretty thin ice. My apologies if this post is a bit off-topic, but I saw a need to address these issues in conjunction with the said topic.

You can check out Conquer and Metin-2 (Google for links? Though I think its http://en.metin2.gameforge.com/ for Metin-2). Both are free as far as I know and I've played Metin for some time now, and I think its not half bad. Servers are good, hardly any latency and there's quite some depth to boot, so its a good deal I guess. Nothing on WOW I guess, but as a free MMO, I think its good enough. By the way, THQ's working on an MMO for Warhammer 40000, so look out for it.

I have been playing RTS games for quite a while now, and its just as Goosestaf said, there are MANY of them out there. Well, getting straight to the point then. All the games mentioned in the above posts will surely show you a good time, as a few of them are among my all-time RTS favorites. I would however like to add a couple to this queue. Quite a while back I played this game called Dune (yes the RTS, not the RPG). It is a bit old, but for its time, the graphics and gameplay was pretty neat. As for the other one, its a game by THQ, called Warhammer 40000. Its basically a series; search wiki for it and you'll find loads on it. The part that you should play first is Warhammer 40000: Dark Crusade. A recent release is an addition to the series called Warhammer 40000: Soulstorm. I've just started playing it, and I think its a welcome addition to the franchise. Top notch graphics, awesome depth and gameplay and a great AI, its a must play. Oh and they're working on a sequel and an MMORpg. Check it out.

I really do love the books too. I dunno if its hard to believe, but I've read, and re-read each one of them over 20 times (each). Dont get me wrong though, its just that every time I re-read them, I can see the story unfold anew. Its an extrodinary experience, honestly. I was however, a bit disappointed by the movies. I mean, yeah its a bit hard to fit something this big in a little over an hour and a half, but still... Couldnt they have started a series or something? Just to have each and every detail as it was in the books. Though it is true that the movies were based on the books, meaning that they didn't necessarily have all the exact details and everything, but ultimately followed the outcome of the actual story. Its just a bit put off-ing. I'm not complaining, by any means. It sure is a treat to see the characters that you know so well and have grown to love and hate, respectively, unfold the story in full motion video Long live JK Rowling. P.S: I'd sure love an Anime adaptation of the Harry Potter saga

Considering the hype that Vista had before and at the time of it's release, its actual working version was a major let down. Not just for me, but I thousands others. On a personal note, I have an Acer Aspire 5570z (1.73 Dore Duo, 1 GB DDR2, 120GB HDD), and it came with a licensed Vista Home Premium. Yes, its definite Eye-candy, but soon enough I saw through it. My much needed apps were hardly compatible with it, it used around 675MBs of my RAM just running the Acer utilities in the background (No active apps.) and got sluggish.You see, we've seen good looks with the Mac OS, and it brought what Vista brought now, years ago. I for one, was looking forward to some great functionality and compatibility. And It turned out that those were the areas that I was most disappointed in. In matters of security, yes, Vista is much more secure.... but its like an over protective Mommy who doesn't let you do anything on your own (No offence though.)Well, after a lot of painstaking effort and luck, I was able to find the required XP drivers for my Laptop, and its safe to say that I'm quite happy with the way things worked out. Win Xp is running as smoothly as ever and with the new SP3, much better performance.I just hope that the upcoming Windows 7 wont be as much of a let down as Vista was.
