  1. Height is all based on your genetics. There isn't any conventional method of growing taller. All you can do is try to preserve your height. Drinking lots of milk and getting calcium from dairy products is a great way of making your bones stronger, ultimately giving them more stability when you reach your old age. So if you do this, you may not be tall now, but you'll be concidered tall when you become an oldtimer. I'm not sure how, but if you ever get an X-ray, doctors can tell about how tall you'll be. I think it has something to do with the space between your bones around your knee and the amout of cartilage. According to the doctor, I won't be getting much taller. I'm 16 and somewhere between 5'9 and 5'10. That's good enough for me.
  2. Over population is a really important issue human beings face today, especially in countries such as China and India. One potential solution is limiting the number of children a family can have which I believe they are currently doing in China. While most people don't like to think about it, the earth is constantly trying to keep an equilibrium between all of its components. It can only sustain so much life without collapsing. If we let it, the environment will fix the over population problem, though not in a way we like. Like it or not, poverty and famines are ways nature is attempting to fix the problem. It's removing a portion of the population from its surface in an effort to replenish its resources. The problem is, we as the human race, are not allowing nature to do its job. As moral human beings, we're trying to prevent poverty and famines, but this isn't necessarily the correct thing to do. If we keep saving lives, the earth will go haywire because it won't be able to fix itself naturally. Another potential solution, though not one I nor most people want to turn to, is genocide and war. This kills off a large portion of the population, and it does work. War is horrible, but it helps the over population problem. Imagine if the Holocaust, WWI, WWII, the Vietnam War, etc had not occurred. The population would be so much larger today, and the over population problem would be a whole heck of a lot worse. So, there are solutions to the problem. The real question is, when will we become so plagued with disaster from over population that we'll have no choice but to use these solutions.
  3. It all comes down to what you're looking for. Looking to burn calories and get stronger/bigger too Using weights is a great way to burn calories, but it only works if you challenge yourself. Keep increasing the poundage for each machine or exercise. Once one poundage becomes to easy, increase the weight another increment. This exerts a lot of energy, burning calories. An added bonus is muscles burn more calories than fat, so you'll burn calories while exercising an more than you used to when you're just sitting around on the sofa. The only problem with this method is your body weight does increase. Looking to burn calories and lose weight too For this preferance, your best bet is to do lots of walking. Get your heartrate up to your target heartrate zone, and try to keep it up there for at least 30 minutes. This will build up your cardio as well as burn calories. While running burns lots of calories, it is not as effective in losing weight. Looking to burn calories but don't care whether you become stronger/heavy or lighter Your best bet is to do some intense cardio. Do lots of running and vary your mileage. Run a longer distance one day at a moderate speed, and then switch to a lower mileage the next but be sure to increase your speed. As an above poster mentioned, jumping rope is great and just playing basketball, soccer, etc is effective (plus you're having some fun). Most importantly, if one method doesn't seem to be giving you the results you're striving for, try another method. Don't give up and stop. Everyone's bodies are different. You WILL find a method that works for you!
  4. My favorite car is without a doubt the Chrysler Sebring Convertible. I don't like the models pre 2001, but I love the 2001-2004 model. The design is extremely impressive. I absolutely love the curves in the exterior design. The interior, however, needs some work. It doesn't look very classy. The new 2008 model fixes the problem, making it look like a high quality car with some wood paneling, navigation screen, and plenty of cool tools. I'm not as fond of the exterior of the new model as I am of the old model, but it's starting to grow on me. To tell you the truth, I actually prefer the cloth top over the hard top.
  5. Well, Hillary won in Indianna, but it was way to close for my liking. I'm feeling a win in West Virginia and Kentucky, but I think Obama will win Oregon.I hate how everyone thinks Obama should be the candidate just because he has more delegates. You have to think of the big picture -- who will do better against McCain, and according to the AP poll, Hillary is by far the best choice. I also find it irresponsible for the super delegates switching from Hillary to Obama because they think that will finally end the race. That's bad. You should be supporting the candidate you feel would make a better president not who will end the race sooner.
  6. How good are you with HTML, PHP, etc? How big is your website going to be (how much bandwith will it use, how much space will it take up, etc)? Depending upon this, you might want to start off small, going to a free web server with built in sitebuilding tools so you won't have to use much HTML code. I suggest using a site similar to freewebs.com. This is a good place to start off if you're still in the early learning stages because you are able to practice some of the different techniques. Also, you can use a pre-made design which helps a lot for newbies. After a few months or so when you become more comfortable with coding, you can branch out and find a host with more webspace, bandwith, etc and give your site a more complex design. Don't worry ... it takes practice, but you WILL get the hang out it eventually. Never give up!
  7. Now that the servers are down, are our credits still being subtracted each day?
  8. Well, I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one having issues. At first, I thought my account had been deleted for an unknown reason. I hope everything gets moved without any major problems and that the servers are back online soon. My readers count on me having daily updates.
  9. Obama cannot debate well at all, hence why he should not become president. It is not like he can decline a meeting with the President of Russia because he feels the Russian President might have the upper hand coming out of the discussion. That's not how the real world works. If he wants to be a good president, he needs to debate with Hillary. That way, people will see who they are actually voting for. Obama is declining opportunities to debate with Hillary because he believes they'll give her an advantage. Hillary, unlike Obama, takes risks. Obama is not good at debates and has made many mistakes in his speaches. If he wants to win, he needs to watch what he says carefully to avoid offending anyone. He promises things to the people, but can he really change anything. I believe Hillary is more electable and can make a difference!
  10. Here in MA, the age for getting a permit is 16, and the age for getting a driver's license is 16 1/2. A lot of states seem to allow their residents to apply for a permit at 15 1/2 and test for a driver's license at 16. I think this would be a better change. Many kids are mature enough at 15 1/2 to start driving; the problem is, however, some kids this age don't take this responsibility seriously and tarnish the name of young drivers, forcing states to bump up the driving age. By reforming the drivers test to test teenagers on the rules of the road (rather than how many days suspension you get for committing certain felonies) and their maturity levels, I think this change could easily become effective.
  11. @Bluedragon: My camera is a Canon PowerShot A80. It's at least three years old now. It seems to me that cameras are phased in and out so quickly. This camera that I have was one of the best on the market when it was unveiled, but after less than six months, it soon fell below par. More and more advancements continue to be made, and prices continue to rise. It seems awfully difficult to keep up with it all.
  12. This probably goes more towards having visitors visit your site numerous times rather than just once, but I suppose it could apply to registering as well. Firstly, you want to make your website eye-catching. It has to look like a friendly atmosphere for visitors to become a part of. This can be done by creating your own graphics that are integrated into the site design. For a site design, you want to use bright, vibrant colors (sometimes contrasting ones to make them stand out more). Propaganda works well, too. It might be a good idea to advertise your website in your signature on forums relating to the same subject matter of your website and asking other websites with the same subject matter to link to you. In your site description, try to make visiting your website sound like a one-of-a-kind experience. Use descriptions like "best", "number one", "critically acclaimed", etc. These are great ways to start and can easily be expanded upon!
  13. Is training a new puppy tough to do? It must become quite frustrating after a while. Is there a key trick to teaching new puppies good behavior without seeming too harsh. Obviously you can scold a puppy when it does something you do not appreciate, but I don't want the puppy to become afraid of me.
  14. Read more... Notice from electriic_ink: Condensed, quoted and linked to article.
  15. XP is really reliable, and I think the only reason they are taking it off the shelves is to force consumers to purchase Vista. People are happy with XP and don't need to upgrade to Vista, resulting in poor Vista sales. Microsoft, being a business, wants money, and this is there way of making sure the money keeps rolling in. It wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft releases an enhanced version of Vista within the next coming years.
  16. I love taking pictures, but I often have the problem of not being able to get good action shots because my camera has such a long delay. Is it like this for all digital cameras, do you have to buy really expensive ones to solve the problem, or is there an easy way to get rid or lessen the length of the delay?
  17. A girl in my class is from Morocco. Apparently the food there is really good, but according to her, it's hard to recreate the same tastes and flavors here in America. I'm not sure if this is because of American conditions (climate, environment, etc) or if the agricultural products grown in America have different qualities to them than the ones grown in Morocco. If you're trying to determine whether or not you like Moroccan food, I wouldn't base your judgement off of instant mixes purchased at Walmart.
  18. How muscular are you? A lot of times people who are out to lose weight sometimes end up gaining more weight because they end up building muscle. Muscle weighs a lot more than fat. Weight isn't always the issue. If you aren't huge (big belly, sagging skin, etc), then your weight probably isn't an issue. Just stay active!
  19. I actually need a new pair of headphones as well. The tops of my Apple headphones popped off, and now they don't produce sound. I just bought of Philips In-Ear headphones, but they were too big to fit in my ears, and I hated the assymetrical design. I didn't like the fact that the cord for one earpiece was much longer than the other. Apparently it is designed this way so you can put the cord around you head to prevent tangling, but it isn't the design for me. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd like earbuds rather than the big over-the-ear ones.
  20. Just by sitting upon the horse as it walks, handicapped riders experience an enormous benefit. Because of the horse's up and down motion, riders get an extreme workout. Most often, you'll hurt in places where you never knew you had muscles. Horseback riding allows the physically disabled, who cannot build up muscle strength easily, the opportunity to get at least some exercise. I haven't yet seen it, but I've heard from some of the lesson instructors that horseback riding also helps with speech therapy. I'm not quite sure how that works, but I guess it does. The problem is, horses are expensive to purchase and maintain with all of the food they require to eat, horse shoes, and medical bills. A lot of places no longer offer therapeutic riding. My town's state hospital still provides this service but only because it does not have to pay for staff. Everything is strictly run by volunteers.
  21. I'm not sure if this would work for me or not. My skin is strange. It is extremely dry, to the point were it gets all flaky. But by the end of the day, my face is flooded with oil. Why? It seems so strange to have such diverse skin. Is there any way around this problem?
  22. I trick I use to get around this problem is requesting CDs and music albums from my local library. Just take the CD/music album, upload the songs onto your computer, and then you're all set to go. I'm pretty sure this is legal because the CD/music album has already been purchased; and therefore, the artist has already been paid royalties. A quick question: Is it illegal to download leaked songs before they are released?
  23. I think I remember hearing the title Stranger in a Strange Land. Could you give me a brief description of the book as well as what you liked and didn't like about it so I'll know whether or not it is worth my while to read it?
  24. Are college sports run just like high school sports? Are they set up into divisions based on skill level with semi-finals/finals/championships at the end of each season? Another question: In high school, we can only play one sport each season. Is this true in college as well. I understand that there would probably be some conflict with practice playing two sports at once, but it is unfair to deny a person the right to play two sports that they absolutely love.
  25. Volunteering at the farm is extremely rewarding. It's a great time just being around the animals. I love seeing the enjoyment on the faces of the little kids getting to ride their favorite horse. The kids usually make horse noises when they're riding, and it is really cute. This past week, we got another horse whose name is Chester. I have yet to meet him, so I'll post the details when I see him tomorrow. If people want, I can post pictures of some of the horses for you if you're interested.
