  1. No it does not have that functionality. Even WINXP pro SP2 cd-key won't work with a SP1 pro cd. And of course it doesn't work between home edition and professional, but its kinda cool how Vista does support that.
  2. well, don't know about that.I kinda prefer using a download manager (flashget) for large files, because sometimes my connection breaks and firefox doesn't support resuming files, but that's me because of my slow connection, 1024kbps.Maybe your connection is 100Mbit so you don't have to worry much about that... after spending 10 seconds downloading a linux distro and your connection breaks for a sec... you just say "ohh, ok, im just gonna download it again" hahaha, but maybe that's not your case, you just happen to have a very reliable ISP, mine isn't, so using a download manager is a must!
  3. it's a laptop, so my guess is it would have to be something about the bateries, and/or the bios setup. That's just on top of my head right now, can't think of anything else really...oh wait, how are you shutting down your computer? pressing the power button once while in windows?Maybe windows is configured to "reboot" and not shutdown after you press the power button on your laptop, that could be the case. To check right-click any empty spot in your desktop and click properties, go to "screen saver" and then click on "power".go to the advanced tab and see what it says on the frame below:"when I press the power button on my computer:" -- be sure that it says "shutdown" or at least "ask me what to do"But that only applies if you're shutting down by pushing that button. If you are not, then tell me how
  4. I use the google toolbar (best thing ever imo) so I don't need to set my homepage to google's.But speaking of toolbars, I hate when you install free software and they ask you if you want to install their toolbar, like daemon-tools, windows live, and you see of course the yahoo toolbar ad in a lot of setups.. I don't know why I feel those are like malware or something, why would it be so important if someone uses your toolbar? maybe to get more clicks? anyway, my real question is, should I feel the same about google?I really love google, gmail and the toolbar. Gmail is the best webmail ever, really fast and AJAX it's way better than hotmail. The toolbar gives you a lot of handy functions, like the mail checker (gmail), highlighting of search themes (what I use the most), and the ability to add custom search buttons, so it's a great piece of software, plus sometimes it comes bundled with firefox. But after giving it a second though, I'm not sure if this toolbar is any different from the yahoo, or other toolbars out there, the ones I feel like they're going to install stuff in my pc... hopefully not, though I know google gathers information about the sites you visit and stuff, for the pagerank, which I find useful, and you're prompted to choose if you want pagerank or not, so it's ok i guess. Now for homepage I have my own site. But I'm looking for something like the Opera's homepage, where you see screenshots (in real time) of a lot of sites you add there, so you just click the site you want to visit and that's it. It's like having multiple homepages in just one tab... Not like IE7 multiple homepages in different tabs, lol.Anyway, for those of you who doesn't have google as homepage nor the toolbar, and usually type "https://www.google.de/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=BwkjVKfAD8uH8QfckIGgCQ&gws_rd=ssl; really fast, lol, maybe you should consider using bookmarks, I use them a lot.. its easy just having a button labeled "gmail" than typing "mail.google.com" if you know what I mean. So, anyone knows a homepage that is:- lightweight: very fast load time.- editable, like, you could add your own sites and having them listed there, for quick access.- adfree, because, honestly I hate ads (but then hosting that kind of site would be useless for the creator)i think that's it, I don't want to use opera all the time, I feel good using firefox and don't want to switch just because of the homepage... hehe. Anyway, any info regarding the homepage or the toolbar stuff, please feel free to give your opinion
  5. I use flashget, very easy to use and does the job pretty well.I remember using DAP before, the free version but it was full of ads and stuff, I'm grateful that I found out about flashget because it's just as good and free.
  6. You know, I prefer to download codecs manually, I don't know why I don't trust those packs, maybe in the past I downloaded one and came full of surprises, yeah, like spyware and stuff like that. But I guess that this one doesn't do the same thing, but it isn't to hard either to download codecs for yourself. What I do use is GSpot. When a video doesn't play on my computer, I use that program to check which codecs are required and I download them, but usually you just need like 4 codecs and you're set, like the Xvid, ogg, AC3..
  7. Yup I use Filezilla too, both client and server. Excellent ftp software plus is open source. So far no complaints

  9. Hey there, I'm from Venezuela!I also like to learn languages, right now I'm learning French, and I'm about to get the TOEFL (test of english as a foreign language) to further my studies in the US sometime in the future
  10. Ok so for a long time I had my dual boot working great, windows and ubuntu. But 2 days ago my windows required a wipe and clean install because of some issues, like it usually happens after 8 months. So I reinstalled windows, well, first deleted the windows partition using the windows XP install CD. Then assigned a partition for windows (same size) and left the ubuntu and swap partition intact. But of course, windows deletes GRUB and replace it with their boot info, so now I can't boot ubuntu (I can't choose). How can I reinstall GRUB without having to reinstall ubuntu, so I don't lose all my files and settings?
  11. ok this thread is like 1 year or maybe 2 years old :)anywaycareful, if you put foam between the motherboard and the metal case, the foam will most likely hold motherboard-generated heat, so you might get some errors/crashes due to overheating. If installed correctly, the motherboard should never have to touch the metal case, so you don't need to put anything between them.
  12. I read something on shoutwire about a guy who created a lamp powered by gravity, and nothing else... gravity is something that we get for free and if we can turn that into electricity or energy then... well, here's the link http://www.shoutwire.com/
  13. you mean you changed the realmlist file in your WoW folder to connecto to the private server? if you want to change that just edit that file again, but change the values to this: set realmlist us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com remember to open the game using the launcher, as you will be prompted to download a patch in case there's a new version out there. If you can't play even after changing the realmlist, then run the repair.exe in your wow folder, that should work, but it takes several minutes to repair your installation and rolls your installation back to 2.0, so you will need to download patches again.
  14. I think it's safe to leave it like that, the overclocking software is assuming you have stock cooling, or if not then it attempted to change the clock rates and found that setup to be OK (stable)I'm guessing that software also lets you input your own rates if you wanted to, that's when you need to replace your cooling fans. Now, at most you could get artifacts while playing a game, then you'll know your settings are a little bit too high, but IMO that shouldn't happen because it wasn't a radical change of clock rates.good luck though!
  15. I used to love monkey island too. And I love the star wars franchise, though not all of them, but the RPG ones (like kotor 2!) Now I'm just waiting for them to release the new star wars game... omg it looks mind blowing.. you can use the force to do incredible things, and.. well just look for yourself! http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  16. Well, I used to play world of warcraft nonstop the the first year I got it. Nowadays I'm just a casual player. But to be honest, the first few months I was all day playing that game, I even skipped college sometimes just to have more time to play WoW. It can get very addicting, but I remember before I started playing on the official US realms (july 1st, 2005) I read about people dying while playing.. so me and my friends were joking about that, jokes like "dude we're going to die this year then!" lol.I remember playing a lot but I do remember that I was hungry sometimes, so I stopped playing for a little bit, and without disconnecting I used to go downstairs and eat something, and in less than 10 minutes I was playing again. I think it was mostly because I'm too competitive, and we were 3 friends who were like "competing" to see who was able to reach 60 first, of course I won the competition but I didn't die. I still had time in the day to eat, goto the bathroom and some other stuff that doesn't take too much time lol.The bad thing was that after reaching 60 I realized how much time I wasted playing, and I failed every single one of my classes at college... that was 3 years ago and thank god I don't play like that anymore. I'm doing really good at college but I do miss playing wow nonstop a little.I should be thankful I didn't die I guess... hahaha
  17. ADSL1024 kbps download512 kbps uploadaround ~40$ a month..yeah, internet in venezuela is expensive.
  18. press CTRL+C to cancel whatever task is running on msdos, and then type "exit" without the quotes
  19. it doesn't work on any of my PCs... same thing happens, it says that windows can't recognize the attached usb device... and the activity led on the flash disk doesn't light up... so yeah it's dead
  20. So my uncle asks me to format his computer and install windows and stuff. So I did like I do with my PC every six months. No problems at all, everything was working. So I proceeded to install drivers, which I had already on my flash drive, a 2GB PNY flash drive. But, for some reason, the usb drive was not recognized by windows XP on my uncle's PC, and I tried again on another port. No luck. I was thinking maybe all the usb ports were broken or something... but then I went to my desktop and proceeded to connect my usb drive to burn the drivers on to a CD.And what's my surprise?? again, my windows doesn't recognize the USB drive connected.... I think my uncle's PC burnt or damaged somehow my USB flash drive.. I had so many sensitive files in there... and it was like 3 months old!!! it wasn't that expensive but I'm not from the US so buying it here (in venezuela) can cost even 3 times its normal price..When you connect it, not even the "activity" led lights up... is it gone? forever? or is there some way to fix it?thanks.
  21. I personally don't believe in God, but I think it's a good thing that many people believe in something. I do believe that thinking positively will get your positive things for your life. Same goes for negative thoughts. So that's what I see good about religion, you're thinking good positive stuff, which in the end will bring you good things to your life. Plus, you believe in a God that is somehow protecting you and that you can pray for stuff you want. If you have a sick child or relative, you pray to God and have faith that your loved one will get better. While there might not be a "God" taking care of your loved one, I'm certain that your prayers to "God" will translate into positive thoughts and therefore good things, like your loved one getting better, and when a lot of people do the same, that's a lot of positive thinking. Why don't I believe in God? maybe because I need to see things before I believe it, I'm a man of facts, I don't believe the earth was created in seven days, I believe in evolution, that makes the most sense, again, for me, a man of facts. How would religion explain the bad things happening to the world if God only wants good things to us? Oh yeah, that's why they invented the devil too. It's all a well-made story put together in ancient times. But don't get me wrong, if you believe in God (and you should) then it's ok. For you, God exists and you're happy. For me, God doesn't exists and I'm happy too.
  22. Hello again, I was trying to create an addon domain but it doesn't let me. The Nameservers are currently pointing the Xisto - Web Hosting ones, and even cpanel recognizes it but it still doesn't create the addon domain. The error I get is the following: Error from wrapper: Using nameservers with the following IPs: 67.19.253.52, 64.69.35.177 Sorry, the domain is already pointed to an IP address that does not appear to use DNS servers associiated with this server. Please transfer the domain to this servers nameservers or have your administrator add one of its nameservers to /etc/ip.remotedns and make the proper A entries on that remote nameserver. The IPs shown there are the ones for NS.COMPUTINGHOST.COM and NS2.COMPUTINGHOST.COM but I still can't set up the addon domain. There's something I noticed though. When I enter the Addon domain setup page, I get this message: Note: This feature must be enabled for your account before you can use it. Does that mean that I need an admin to activate that option for me before I can use it? thanks in advance. PS: the new domain name is mikeflash.com and the registrar is melbourneit.com.au
  23. maybe this doesn't help at all, or maybe you already tried this, but always make sure your vista installation is up-to-date, same goes for your video card drivers and your game. Try looking for the game's manual or readme file, look in the troubleshooting part for any issues related to windows vista. There should be something that might help you out.And the best thing you could do, use google to find out if anyone else have the same problem you have. That's most likely to happen, and probable someone already solved their problem so you might get lucky and solve yours as well.Hope it helps.

    Ports

First you have to make sure your ISP doesn't block those ports, for example, port 80 for your webserver. Mine does, because they run a firewall to block some ports for more security, but using a web interface from my ISP, i could manually turn it off. Now, you must figure out your IP address (LAN IP) that your router gives you. It should be 192.168.1.X or 192.168.0.X (where X is any number from 2 to 255) or could be something like 10.10.10.X. Now that you have your local IP address, just open your favorite web browser (i.e mozilla) and put this on the address bar: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ (or whatever your local IP address is, making sure it finish with a 1, which is your router's IP) Now hopefully you'll be on your router web interface for setting up your configuration manually. I don't know which router you own, but they are all pretty much the same. Just look for Port Forwarding. Before I forget, you might need to enter your router's password. If you never changed it, try using admin as username and "password" as the password, without the quotes. If that doesn't work, then just enter admin and leave the password blank. If that doesn't work either, then refer to your router's manual for your default password. If you changed it before, then enter yours, obviously. Now you should see your port forwarding page, where you need to input the target port and target IP address. For example, for a webserver you put port 80 and redirect it to your IP address (192.168.1.X) and press the "APPLY" button to apply your changes. Do that with every port you need forwarded to your server. For games, it's the same, like for example "counter-strike" uses ports from 27000 to 27030, you could forward all those ports to your IP address and then you're good to go. Same applies for all games, and it's kinda the same setup. Mess with your router, don't be affraid to cause some damage or something. If you ever experience issues with your router after you changed something, you can always look at the back of the router for the reset button. It's usually hidden and very small and hard to reach, you might need something like a small stick to press it. After that, your router comes back to initial configuration. Hope it helps ya, let me know if you didn't understand something or if you need further assistance.
