  1. Hmmm....I think you are asking for too much thepiratedock. a free me@mydomain.com email? WooW I have never come across that either.
  2. Are you looking at only the booting time or also at the final performance of the laptop? Vista might be the fastest booting OS but definitely not the fastest when you are talking about overall performance on a entry level computer (not a high end one). I wouldnt advice him to make any attempt to install Vista in there regarding the fact that this is an office computer. First, check if your laptop is configured to boot from a network server and then you also check to know whether there is even a hard disc in your laptop that would make your admin configure it to boot from the network. if it does have, I would suggest you install WIndows XP into your local hard drive. That would ensure that your computer would be able to access the local files much faster than the network ones. if there is not Hard disk in there, request for one or u have to get used to the slow booting from the network server.
  3. I am having exactly the same problems right now. I have Windows XP Professional in my first primary partition and Windows Vista Ultimate in the 2nd primary partition and then a third logical partition I use as backup partition. I created out about 6.5GB of space which was split between the Linux root (/) and the Linux swap partition from the three partitions that was there before. There was no problems and the Ubuntu installation went very smoothly. Now, I cant boot into any of my Windows partitions for some reason which I am yet to figure out. I have tried repairing the Vista boot loader but it tells me dat it cant find any problems in there and that I should contact my system administrator. Well, I am gonna try a 2nd option. Repair the Windows XP boot manager with the fixmbr command in the Windows XP repair console and that will leave me with WinXP as the only bootable OS and then get Vista working again by repairing Vista's boot manager. Then, I am gonna edit the BCD with a free software called EasyBCD. I hope it is gonna work 'cos I really wanna use the Ubuntu n at the same time, I dont wanna loose my Windows OSes either.
  4. I will agree to the fact that frontpage is a terrible program fro web designins not to think of gfx designing. I remember an instace where I created a pagein frontpage and only IE could display the web pages correctly whereas Opera and the Mozilla browsers where all distorting the tables and cells in the pages.Since then, I have switched from FrontPage to Dreamweaver CS3 and my pages now look much better then before. One more thing I would wanna add to your GFX question is this: Consider using the Lasso tool in Adobe Photoshop to remove specific backgrounds that you dont want. Simply crop out the background and press delete on your keyboard to remove it and leave the image of parts of the image background as transparent.
  5. Despite the fact that I have been using Windows Vista Ultimate and still is using it, I am noticing a lota instability issues with it. Vista is great in its own ways with the integration of DX10 and Aero and some other stuufs in there. I have personaly encountered some troubling instability issues with Vista one of which was that I lost virtually every installed program in my laptop after running disk cleanup. And with windows telling me that I have over 120GB of per user queued error messages inside a less than 50GB Partition is quite outrageous and when I went ahead to delete them, after wondering what the error was all about, I was stupefied when after the disk clean up finished and I found out that every installed program in the program files folder has gone. It has happened to me 2wise and that aint funny. I had gone to complain to MS but surprisingly, there was no where for me to contact them, meaning I cant even find there contact page or an email to vent my anger to. Well, thats that about my case. These days, I am taking it real easy with the OS and running periodic backups when I am damn sure that everything is working fine incase something happens, I can restore my backup and continue.
  6. I have had this kinda experience in the past in which case my computer will never boot into windows desktop after I installed my 128MB GeForce FX5200 Ultra. This is generally the case when I am using a motherboard with an integrated Intel GMA.Well, this is what you are gonna do to get this to start working again.Boot up your PC into Safe mode by pressing thr F8 key immediately after POST (Power On Self Test) and before boot screen comes up. Goto Device manager and disable the integrated video device by right clicking on it and selecting disable. Confirm that you wanna disable it and then restart. That would stop your integrated video from conflicting with your PCI GFX card and everything should work well from there.
  7. You are right. I always see people replying to a post without even taking their time to read through what the post was all about. WHy would you go replying to something someone said if you dont even know what he was talking about. I dont know if there is any way to address this, but I would suggest that it should be looked into.
  8. Like saint said, I would suggest that you buy 'em both. One thing u didnt mention was the kinda CPU, Mobo and RAM you are using. I would suggest again that you should consider using a dual core CPU (Recommended: Core Duo n above) with a combination of Dual Channel DDR2. that might entail changing some major hardwares on your computer like your mobo, cpu n ram. This will surelly change the whole performance configuration of your computer and should be able to work very properly with the SLI graphics cards. And another thing is your PSU. MAke sure that your PSU has enough power to undertake the power demand of your hardwares as this can significantly reduce performance.
  9. Apart from defragmenting, you should also do the following:Run an antivirus software to remove any viruses/adwares and spywares as these only help in slowing down your computer. You should also run Disk CleanUp in order to make sure that your hard disk/partitions are devoid of junks which some softwares leave in there after installations. These junks, mostly found inside the temp folder, with time, tend to start slowing down your PC if not taken care of.
  10. I used to have a great lag while playing games with my wireless keyboard. This made my purchase a wired keyboard for my gaming while I use the wireless for any other thing I have to do with the PC.
  11. You are right. bitdefender is a very good antivirus software. I am using the BitDefender Total Security suite though and it blocks any external attack into my computer. It even has a registry monitoring tool to effectively monitor your system registry. Inbuilt disc defragmenter makes it very good to plus a lot more other nice features.Best of all, it never stresses your computer resources at all. It is just there in the background doing its work. I recommend this antivirus as it rates a 10/10 as the best antivirus.
  12. If you have been using Microsoft Windows Vista for quite some time, you would have noticed that installing a number of programs/softwares into your computer considerably slows down the response time of your start menu program folder, sometimes up to one second or more before the programs listed in a particular start menu folder is displayed. Worst of all, if you are trying to launch a program from you start menu which is within another start menu prrograms folder. Well, I have found a way to bypass this very annoying thing in Windows Vista. I have about 98 start menu entries (including the default start menu entries by Windows Vista) in my laptop and yet, there is no lagging whenever I click on any start menu folder before it will be displayed. This is what I did: Right click on the start menu (the windows logo on the left hand side of your task bar) and click on prooperties. Then click on Customize. This will present you with yet another Window where you can select the start menu items you would want to display an a link/menu/not at all. Find the option Highlight newly installed programs and disable it. After this, log off/restart your windows. Go back again and check the response time of your start menu and you will find out that it has increased considerably. Before I found this out, I have been wondering the reason why my laptop (Compaq nx6310 - Specs: Intel Core2Duo T5500 @ 1.66GHz, 1.0GB DDR2 667, 120GB SATA-150 HDD) would always seem to be non-responsive for a bried moment after I have instaled a number of programs in there. Because of this, I had to partition and install Windows XP Professional w/SP2 in a second partition to know if splitting the softwares between the 2 OSes would solve that problem, yet the same thing kept happening. Right now, I am running more than twice the number of softwares I generally instal on my Windows Vista Ultimate and yet, there is no lagging whatsoever in the start menu Programs folder. Note: This is only applicable to people using Windows Vista on their computers as this very option of disabling Highlight newly installed programs is not available in Windows XP and the previous Windows Operating systems. I have not tried this proceedure in the other Windows Vista Editions as I have always used the Ultimate Edition, but I believe that it will work in there as it worked in Ultimate which happens to be the heaviest of the Vista Operating Systems.
  13. Thanks so much velma. I have paid a visit to Xisto - Domains.com and had a look at the hosting and reseller packages. I wanna understand one thing though. After the domain transfer, how much will I be paying for the web hosting of the transfered domain? And I also paid a visit to Xisto - Web Hosting.com and saw some of the Hosting packages in there. Does these also include domain registration and hosting in one? I need all the answers. And please also explain to me about this Freedom package too as I didnt see the info over there at Xisto - Domains. Thanks.
  14. I wanna know how much it would cost to transfer an existing Domain (HELP) from Goodoldomains to Xisto - Web Hosting. As it is, I have already sent a PM to OpaQue concerning this issue and that was over two weeks now but I havent gotten any reply from him yet. I dont know whether you (OpaQue) want me to goto another web host. I really like Xisto and Xisto - Web Hosting and thats the more reason why I am trying to stick with them on this web hosting. I have already chosen a domain registration/web hosting package from the Xisto - Web Hosting options. Please send me a reply or post it in here. Thank you.
  15. I just activated the tweak in my computer. Now let me see whether I am gonna get a boost in Bandwidth or not. I honestly hope this doesnt have any side effect to my networking and Windows in general.
  16. I would wonder why someone would go hacking into another person's site? Just for the fun of it? You just wake up one morning and instead of thinking to do one good thiing for that day, all you could think of was to go destroy something someone else has taken his time, ideas, knowledge and zeal to build. That aint good at all and people should stop it.
  17. Ok Saint. I am going to remove some things in there to see whether the computer would run smoothly. Like I said, I would prefer it if I can get a very good PSU to power the computer. Unfortunately I aint able to get one. Let me see what happens after removing some of the hardware like you recommended. Heading to my workroom. I know Newegg will solve my problem but I am considering the cost of having a PSU shipped all the way from the USA to Nigeria. It would cost me quite some amount. Apart from that, I aint planning on installing the Quad Core on the same Computer. The Quad is coming in another PC with everything different from the one I currently have.
  18. I tried to access my web/ftp stats page and the error below was what I got. Error: Couldn't open config file "awstats.microncyber.uni.cc.conf" nor "awstats.conf" after searching in path ".,/home/odomike/tmp/awstats/,/etc/opt/awstats,/etc/awstats,/etc,/usr/local/etc/awstats": No such file or directory - Did you use the correct URL ? Example: LOCALHOST/awstats/awstats.pl?config=mysite Example: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ - Did you create your config file 'awstats.microncyber.uni.cc.conf' ? If not, you can run "awstats_configure.pl" from command line, or create it manually. Check config file, permissions and AWStats documentation (in 'docs' directory). What can I do to corect this? or is this some problem with the MYSQL database in T17 server? I need help please.
  19. I want the type of CMS that can allow me to build my own template from the scratch. I dont like using templates which someone else made. I would rather code my own template from the scratch and then incorporate it into the CMS. I would go check out this cutenews of your. Time to do some googling.
  20. LMFAO .... how the hell did you know that there are aliens on the moon? thats very funny man. ANyways, it would be fun to have a look at the outer space for those of us that never had to see it except for the movies. Having to wonder about in your own space fantasy would be really gr8.
  21. I am quite good with HTML and some of the other Web programming languages, but I am having some difficulty in getting a web portal done. I have thought of using a content management system (CMS) to get the job done. But, one thing I dont like is the themes or do you call that templates, which come installed in them CMS softwares.I wanna know whether I can possibly design my own custom template/theme and then incorporate it into the CMS program...say Mamboo...so that instead of it displaying the default template which was preinstalled, it will now be displaying my own template and it would look more like I designed/developed the whole portal myself.I am meant to develop a web portal for a company and I am having a hell of a trouble with the damn thing.I need help here instanta...
  22. I wouldnt say video games are a complete waste of time. Come to think of it...you are on your PC and you've been typing codes upon codes of HTML or you are doing this 3D animation design and all of a sudden, you feel as if nothing is going in or coming out of your brain any more. Then you dont wanna leave your PC for tha fact that you wanna continue with your job.So, what do you do? You launch one game and start playing to free your mind and brain. By the time you've played this game for...say...30mins and then go back to your work, everything will be fine from then and your assimilation is back to normal. This is the way it works for me. I dont know about others though but I strongly believe taht Video Games are cool.
  23. anish2000......I would wanna understand wat your post is all about. Ok, Windows Vista rocks. But what really makes it rock? What are the features you find sooo rocking in Windows Vista? All these you would have to explain to us in here and not just telling us that Windows Vista rocks just like that. And judging from your post count, I understand that you are still a newbie. You have to try to make very meaningful post man and not just short phrases. Your post should contain some meaning and sense of direction in it.
  24. First of all, I dont support cheating in any way at all. Why go into a relationship with someone if you have it in mind to cheat on her? I know that girls themselves arent to be trusted but you as the guy, should try to keeo yourself clean in order not to be blamed for the break up (so I think though.)One thing I have learnt about girls is that once you try to be faithful to 'em, they tend to start thinking that they are the best thing that ever happeed to you and once they start getting that sick idea in their head, you are in for a boot.God help us men.
  25. I just got this desktop computer from my uncle (will still go ahead to buy the Quad Core computer still) and I have been having this problem with.It came with this fake 400W PSU (I call it fake because it aint supplying the manufacturer's stated power output) manufactured by Maxtron. It could not power most of the devices on my PC. After some time, I started noticing some lag in the system performance. Later on, this PSU got burnt (probably because higher power demand by the hardwares than it could supply). I decided to make sure I get an original and genuine PSU this time to ensure that everything in there gets the required power. Unfortunately, I was not able to get a PSU that can supply up to 500W or more. the best I could get for the genuine ones (not the type I was using before was 300W) and I had to buy that one baceause it was better off than the 400W fake one. Unfortunately the same thing was still happening. After a while, I noticed that my CD/DVD drives would not burn more than 1CD at once while as I have up to 4 CD/DVD drives. Meaning that the drives cannot burn CDs simultaneously. I knew that this was a power problem because everything would be fine once you try to burn with only one CD/DVD drive at a time. Apart from that, My hardDrives also started misbehaving too. They would be making this tiny disturbing noise/sound within the HDD. I just do not fancy this at all. I have been wonderin what to do to make things right in there. Ok, I do know that it is lower power supply thtat is causing the whole problems in there but unfortunately, I cannot get a better PSU than the one I am currently using around me. I have even travelled all the way to a neighbouring state and even to the western part of my country, all in the name of getting a good PSU, but all to know avail. I dont want to reduce the hardwares I have in there cause I do utilize all of 'em at one time or the other.Irrespective of not wanting to remove some of my hardware, I decided to reduce the number of hardwares I have in there, disconnecting 2 CD/DVD drives and 1 HDD, but the same thing continued. I don't know what else to do cause I cant even get a genuine PSU to power my hardwares. Please help.Below is my Hardware spec.Motherboard CPU Type Intel Pentium EE, 3800 MHz (19 x 200)Motherboard Name ASRock 775i65GVMotherboard Chipset Intel Morgan Hill i865GVSystem Memory 1024 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM) Display Video Adapter GeForce FX 5200 (128 MB)Video Adapter GeForce FX 5200 (128 MB)3D Accelerator Intel Extreme Graphics 23D Accelerator nVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Multimedia Audio Adapter C-Media CMI9739A/9761 @ Intel 82801EB ICH5 - AC'97 Audio Controller [A-2/A-3]Audio Adapter SigmaTel STAC9721/23 @ Creative SB Live!
