  1. I love Super Smash Brothers: Melee; even after playing on and off for four years I still love it. I generally use Marth because he's been proven to be one of the best. It's obvious when the best player in the world uses him. After finally mastering wave-dashing I can pwn so many newbs. I think it's crazy that Fox can accept input faster than it's physically possible for any human to move his fingers. It's always fun to use Mewto and DK after I learned how to effectively run in and out of the battle charging B until fully charged and then getting a free 30 percent up. Other favorites are Yoshi with his fast dodge and gigantic head/eggs, Link with his B and up, and Ness with his yoyo and pike fire. Bowsers just impossible to use; he is huge, light, and super slow. Luigis just fun because his wavedash is super ridiculous. Jigglypuff is awesome too because you just have to jump and side a over and over to play good, if you can sleep them off. Still need to learn to use Falco's gun with short-hopping though, I never learned to short hop well because I use X to jump.
  2. I've been running alot lately just because of Track season starting soon and trying to get in shape again. During the summer I have to bang out like five miles a day and sometimes an eight . I immediately notice not being in sdape too; waking up in the morning is even harder. I hate the way I feel about myself and just get super emotional. Anyway, I everytime I start running I remember running in high school. Anyway here's an excerpt from one of my old journals I found: My high school experiences changed the way I think about athletics and here's why. My coaches get really angry with me all the time because I'm a super sensitive runner, sensitive being physically. I have to warm up longer and take special precautions to not get hurt. I'm hurt a large fraction of each running season. Each year it's been a different one. My first year I had knee issues, and I was out for the entire year. My second year I was having calf and shin problems, then the following year, first week before our races for the season began, I hurt my ankle. What a bust! It was my best season ahead of me! I was planning on making the top 15 of the team. Each year the team takes a trip, usually up to San Francisco for the Golden Gate invintational, although every so often they go to New York for the Manahatten Invintational. I'm so pissed I missed that this year!!! And it doesn't help at all in running that I have the madest allergies in the world. Every year during the fall I get all these crazy-*bottom* *BLEEP*ing allergies. It ruins my entire season every year. All summer long I train so hard and get really good, and then fall comes: BAM! My seasons over. The pollen just takes over my system and I get dominated. I fall behind no the runs, I can't run as hard, I lose all my energy, and not to mention it's just impossible to breath! How am I supposed to conduct a cardiovascular activity with all these mad allergies going on in my body!?!? It just pisses me off that my body is holding me back from my true potential in running. Don't get me started on the coaches. They just don't care. After your freshmen year and they see how well you run and that's your reputation for the rest of your career. They get a fresh set of people every year. I don't matter. In retrospect I'm thankful for the experience but at the same time remember why I felt like this. My cousin was going to go to Columbia on a football scholarship but destroyed his shoulders on a bench press. The coaches kept encouraging him to move up in weight and my cousin who was constantly searching for their approval bought into it. I think about it, and High School coaches, unless they are actually good people, do not care about the individuals on their team. It doesn't matter what happens, they will let you destroy your body because by the time you've done it, you're gone. Anyway, just my two cents.
  3. I don't see any kind of logic in the presentation of your ideas. What about astrology makes it scientific? Just like ESP and other Psychic claims have been proven false, it is extremely obvious that there is no logical connection here. The basis of astrology is simply fairy tales, and due to this astrology is entirely fabricated. Sure it is based on something scientific which I think is the argument your making, but that doesn't meant that it is true. My birthday has nothing to do with the arrangement of planets...Sorry.
  4. Yeah, call me old fashioned, but I prefer Windows simply because of compatibility and accessibility. I consider myself moderately knowledgeable on the subject of computers, so I was impressed with how little I knew when I tried to set up a LAMP server for my spare computer. I ended up doing it through windows 2k, which works great, but I've heard so many good things about Linux I wanted to give it a try. Maybe in the future I'll try again when I have someone extremely familiar with the ways of Linux helping me install and prepare.
  5. They actually do help better myself; I mostly play video games to relax and enjoy myself, but many studies have concluded that video games help with problem solving among many other things. If I have had a hard day there is nothing more comforting than 5-starring cliffs of dover on expert or ranking up on halo 3. I can't understand someone who would call enjoyment a waste of time. What do you do to enjoy yourself? Watch TV? Play sports? These can be argued as a "waste of time". I run 5-8 miles a day for cross country, so my health isn't an issue here. I enjoy video games.
  6. Right now I sit and watch tapes of couples arguing and rate their relationship out of a 100. It's part of a research project at my school, and I'm making 12 an hour for it so really I can't complain. I can, however, complain about when I used to work at Ralph's. This was absolutely the worst job ever. It was ridiculously boring, nobody that worked there was even remotely interesting to talk to. I was basically the manager's slave and she'd make me do some of the most retarded stuff imaginable. Bagging groceries is god awful, especially when you get the *BLEEP* customer that tells you to rearrange by size or alphabetical order (It DOES happen!). All in all, from that experience I will never ever work in a grocery store again.
  7. Mass Effect makes games like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire look like warm up rounds. This game has expanded its own genre in so many ways it's simply amazing. The only thing holding it back is that many will agree the camera and battle system is a little flawed; it's a damn shame they didn't iron out more bugs before sending this puppy off. You will often be dead without a reason only to find something that you couldn't see attacking you, either that or you will get annoyed and bored with the mechanics of battling. Yet, it's amazing to see the facial expressions on someone reveal sarcasm or indifference, something I've never seen in a game before. The world is massive and every bit as ambitious as everyone thought it would be; The story line is a perfect blend of all of the aforementioned qualities. I personally think this is the best 360 game yet, my advice to you is this: play it.
  8. I also hate Runescape. The game was extremely popular due to it being one of the first mainstream MMOs but is simply insignificant and inferior to all other MMOs. World of Warcraft was the first MMORPG to become worldwide and spread across the US. The majority of western gamers had little to no knowledge of the genre so it was new and extremely refreshing, thus fueling the massive amount of success it has experienced in the last four years. But anyway, Runescape is a dumbed down version of every MMORPG you have ever played. Amen.
  9. Very interesting. Another similar question is what if everything you know is programmed memory? In that I mean, you never actually experienced any of the things you remember, it was simply placed in your head. This day could very well be the first you ever lived! I think I would tire of living through this scenario just because relationships and human contact is what I think people need to survive. I simply can't imagine being without any of my friends; all of the friendships I have created in the last 10 years would be a waste of time. Deep
  10. America, simply put, is not ready for a woman president. Women make decisions based more on emotions than logic, and due to this men simply are better rulers. Of all women in history who have ruled, the only successful ones that come to mind are Elizabeth I, Isabella, and Catherine the Great of Russia. These women were successful due to traits Hillary Clinton does not have. Ever notice how Hillary Clinton changes her views in order to deceive her audience in her favor? Search the internet for "Hillary Clinton contradict herself" and you will soon realize just as I did, this woman is much too dynamic to run a country. Aside from that, I do not support her simply because I disagree with her views constantly. I consider myself a liberal, but I often find myself thinking, is that really what's best for the United States right now? Sorry if I was getting to specific/political, but there's my two cents.

    Crysis

Crysis is awesome because it is a fusion of Battlefield 2 and Counterstrike. The large majority of computers will struggle with the massive system requirements; however, it is well worth it. I cannot put this game down, even though I need to play it on the lowest settings due to my computer being two years old. The mesh of different gameplay elements is easily appreciated. The multiplayer is a unique and enjoyable experience everytime you play; easily one of the best FPSs I've played in recent memory.
  12. Sorry for reviving a dead topic, but I thought I'd post my thoughts here rather than start a new post. The right to bear arms was introduced in order to overthrow tyranny in the 18th century and has no relevance to our modern world. We don't need guns to stop our country from becoming uncontrollable; we have many other ways to do that. To see events like the Columbine and Virgina Tech massacre happen due to lack of gun control is simply disgusting. Do all proponents of gun control think that these events are worth their rights? The loss of human life in order to maintain the right to protect oneself is a paradox. What's the necessity of protection if the attacker lacks a firearm?
  13. Just beat Cliffs of Dover; this game is amazing. You will notice immediately that it is much easier to hit notes than it was in Guitar Hero 2. However, you will also notice immediately that this game is much harder than Guitar Hero 2. The songs are intensely difficult by the 4th tier, and it simply gets more and more intense from there. The most apparent change is the addition of boss battles. These seem like a revolutionary addition that will change the mechanics of the game forever but you soon realize that it is a much better in concept than in execution. The boss battles will be decided quickly through luck with a negligible amount of skill. The soundtrack is the best its ever been, and it has stayed fresh for the last month and a half I've been playing. It never gets old to play through classics such as "One" or "Paint it Black" and it's even more satisfying to actually beat these on the highest difficulty. There are even new fresh bonus songs such as "Impulse", which is reminiscent of the late 80s early 90s video game revolution; I'm sure many of you on Xisto can relate to that time period The controllers that come with the game are much better than any other guitar controller yet. The buttons feel perfect and its detachable neck makes it easy to take over to your friend's house for that Rock Band jam session. Yes, that's right, if you buy this game with the guitar, you will have all of the instruments you need for rock band. So in my opinion, yes, dish out the 100$. You won't regret this insane amount of fun unless you downright hate guitar hero (Which is impossible )
  14. The woman has a right to choose, her body her right. It isn't killing if the baby isn't self aware, and in order to be murder it first has to be alive. As long as it is within the first trimester I have no moral objections, but otherwise is kind of horrific. Third trimester abortions are simply wrong, but I respect a woman's right to choose. There should be some sort of responsibility to it though, I mean getting pregnant six times by the time your twenty, all with different husbands, is also wrong. I mean these types of girls/women are the type that usually feed our system with orphans, and they are all addicted to meth. Wow, a lot of ideas thrown out there, but all in all, women should have the right to choose if they are making a mistake and learning from it.
  15. Definitely one of the best action games ever created, albeit the hardest. I played through it on my original Xbox but on my 360 I am stuck in chapter 8 mostly because I haven't been playing much. I respect anyone who has finished that game, and to even mention "Master Ninja" is just plain messed up. In my newest GameInformer I was reading about Ninja Gaiden 2, and it looks like it's going to be amazing. There is a claw attachment that goes onto Ryu's hands and heels, tell me that is not the tightest thing ever. Now, to anyone who has played both, what is better Ninja Gaiden or God of War? I liked God of War, but I think Ninja Gaiden takes the win on that one.
  16. Yes, I've read them all and The Fall of Reach remains my favorite. It had a storyline yet to be covered by the games and was much more character driven than the rest. I think that the others are good books but not written as well. At certain times during the other books I thought to myself, I'd rather be playing through this scenario rather than reading it. But all in all, they are good novels that accurately depict the Halo universe that even made it accessible to my mom.
  17. Hey guys, glad I started a good discussion. Anyway I'm not going to bother with quotes just because there were too many responses. The majority of the proponent of Capital Punishment are saying that it is moral to kill if it is in the name of administering justice. This where we disagree and there is simply no point in discussing it after this disagreement because neither of us are going to change our opinions. In my mind life imprisonment is just as much of a consequence as death. Solitary confinement is the most terrifying thing in my mind, I simply cannot fathom lack of any human interaction. I was recently talking to my brother about capital punishment, and he explained his opinion to me in a way that made a large amount of sense. After he read my essay he said, "Yeah Capital Punishment has a lot of flaws, the biggest being it is expensive and you might kill an innocent person; however, there is certain things people do where jail is simply not enough of a consequence. If I was killed wouldn't you want the person who did it killed?" I started thinking, since this situation has never been applied to me I'm not going to base my opinion on it. But, as a result, I can now see the side many of you arguing from. In certain cases it simply isn't enough to imprison someone for life. I think that it is a very complex situation, but there is definitely situation where I believe capital punishment is wrong; however, I think in many years from now I'll be able to see the opposite of opinion.
  18. It definitely depends on the girl. The majority of women however, are better looking with it.
  19. Interesting, isn't this the basis of certain Pagan religions? I went to church for a large portion of my life as it was the only thing I knew. However, I became an explicit Atheist soon after my childhood when I "began to think for myself". My aforementioned reasons for choosing not to believe in God caused me to question religion in many ways. I mean, there have been thousands of religions in the world since the evolution of man. However, what assures you your religion is the right one? Why is your religion the one you believe in? Often times people respond "My parents...", and I think that this is an interesting concept. Firm believers in their respective religions often times were led to their churches by other people, they didn't choose to believe in whatever it is they are firm believers of.
  20. So your counter argument is that God cannot be created because he is the creator? Why though? Why is he the creator and not you or me? He just is? Then why can't the Big Bang just be? Because it obeys the laws of thermodynamics? Why can't those just be? What is the need for a creator for everything to make sense?
  21. Perfect circles are impossible to create, so technically they don't exist because they can't be created. For Pi, the best we can ever come up with is an approximation. As a calculus student, I have run into the .999... = 1 argument multiple times with multiple people. I always try to explain to them that it is not debatable, but accepted definition by mathematicians for the last 400 years. I will be more than happy to help you explain why. There have already been some proofs thrown around here varying from simple to somewhat more algebraic. Allow me to sum these up: 1/9=.111... 2/9=.222... 3/9=.333... 4/9=.444... 5/9=.555... 6/9=.666... 7/9=.777... 8/9=.888... 9/9=.999... Since this is inductive in theory it's not a proof. So, let's use algebra to deductively prove this. This was done beautifully by alex7h3pr0gr4m3r: 1. x=.9... (Set x to .9...) 2. 10x=9.9... (Multiply both sides by 10) 3. 10x-x=9.9... - x (Subtract X) 4. 9x=9.9... - .9... (X is equal to .9 repeating, we stated that in step one, so this is legal) 5. x=1 (Divide by nine) 6. .9...=1 (Substitute) Most people refute step 2 and 4, saying it does not correctly respect the concept of .9... however if one took the time to look in any algebra book this is taught and used by 8th graders everywhere to convert repeating decimals to fractions. Still don't buy it? Ok then, let's assume .9... and 1 are different numbers. This means they have to have a difference. 1 - .9 = .1 .1 - .09 = .01 .01 - .009 = .001 On and on and on... So in order for them to be different there must be 1 at the end of a set of infinite zeros. Yet this is logically impossible. For anyone who has an elementary understanding of calculus, what is the value of (1/2)^x as x approaches infinity? Yes, it is indeed zero. The difference here is that .9... isn't approaching anything. It is simply itself, 1. Finally, head over to Wikipedia and type in .999: But Wikipedia is inaccurate right? People are changing it all the time, so there's no way .9... equals 1! Right
  22. Everyday, horrible things happen in the world. Consequences for the worst crimes imaginable are numerous, yet no matter what wrong doings have occurred, the death penalty should not be one of them. Before you can present any kind of counter argument to my philosophy you must first tell me that the killing of another human being can be humane. So let me ask you, do you believe that murder can be rationalized? Regardless of what someone has done they too are human, and if we kill them as a response to their actions, are we not criminals ourselves? As I speak to you today, people are sitting on death row waiting to receive the same fate they gave others; it seems barbaric that the only way to deal with these people is to do to them exactly what they did to others. If they deserve consequences because killing is wrong, then why it it okay to kill them? Secondly, I would like to bring to your attention that live imprisonment as an alternative to capital punishment is economically beneficial. It costs less to imprison someone for life than it does to kill them. Due to appeals and things of that nature, the average bill of execution is two million dollars, while life imprisonment typically ends up at a mere twenty five thousand dollars per a year. Next, the government should not have the right to take something away that they are incapable of giving back. There have been a hundred twenty two inmates that been exonerated after spending an average of nine years on death row. With that statistic, the probability that an innocent person has been executed in the United States is remarkable. Finally, I will address deterrence. Does someone who knows the death penalty could be applied to them for their crimes decide not to commit them? No. Our state of California has had wavering laws on the death penalty for the last fifty years. During the years of capital punishment murder rates were twice as high. Not only does this disprove the deterrent argument, but it also suggests that killers are perhaps motivated by the consequence of death. Through the aforementioned arguments I think it is prudent that you realize the injustice taking place in this country. Realize what is truly happening here, and think, do I really want to support the killing of others?Tell me what you think Let's argue!
  23. I really like that argument. It's exactly true, and it's difficult to think of it like that but it makes perfect sense. I don't believe in life after death just because there is no evidence to suggest it's true. I'm typically a logical person, and something must be spelled out logically for me to believe it, and to say that there is an afterlife just because not existing is unfathomable, that is simply illogical. Just because we fear not existing, it is impossible for us not to? again good one Liam, I really like that.
  24. My favorite TV show used to be Family Guy, but the more I watch it the less funny it becomes simply because the formula is always the same. The randomness of the flashbacks/mid-show skits is always appreciated, except that sometimes it feels too familiar. I have seen very little of the new episodes, but from what I have seen I have noticed this. That is not to say they are still extremely enjoyable to watch, but it is obvious that they haven't revised it much since 1999, but I guess if it isn't broken don't fix it.My next favorite is Scrubs just because of how character driven the comedy is, and it relies very little on gimmicks and is for the most part very original. I laugh at the same episodes over and over again, and it never ceases to amaze me that there is so much time put into the writing of the show.South Park is another personal favorite, just because it is always extremely funny, and there is always such incredible social commentary it can be appreciated without the humor even though it is always driven by it. The day South Park ends will be a very sad day indeed. Finally, Seinfeld is probably my favorite TV show ever created. It has everything from Scrubs, most notably the powerfully character driven humor. I respect that there is no dramatic aspect to Seinfeld, unlike Scrubs. This is extremely hard to do simply because it drama can be used as filler or simply character development. Yet in Seinfeld, all of this is done with more complex humor, making it a very likable series with memorable characters and scenarios.
  25. I use 1024x768 on this 2002 Compaq . I'll be upgrading my computer soon, and that will be 1600x1200.
