  1. As an agnostic with absolutely no ties to the catholic church I offer my best wishes and hope he recovers. Just because I am agnostic and don't really have alot of trust for any organized religion doesn't mean that I cannot see the pope for what he is, and what he means to catholics. I hope he has a speedy recovery.
  2. Linux is way better, and yes XP is M$'s best OS, not that that is saying much. As for Aaron's comment that it is more prone to viruses, I think that depends on what your are comparing it to. A M$ OS is naturally more prone to viruses since it is by far the most used operating system, so naturally more coders are trying to break it. Dispite this XP would rank fairly high in the pecking order though, because it has a number of security flaws, but again I say what are you comparing it to, to other OS manufacturers products, yes, to other M$ products, no. The whole windows family (including the server editions) has been riddled with security flaws wich made it easy to exploit, the longer a product is on the market the more patches they can release and the more holes they can patch, so thus right now it looks like XP has more problems than say 98 but compare it to 98 fist edition and I think you would have a different story. But dispite this there are still many problems that were in 98 that they were supposed to have fixed in xp, so perhaps the trade off is worth while?
  3. Worse than Yahoo??? My god what are you talking about. Google is one of the best search engines out there, if not THE best. Yahoo stopped being useful as a search engine years ago. Besides that is like comparing apples and oranges, sure thier both fruit, but they are completely different. Yahoo is a directory system with search capabilities, but Google is a true search engine. Sure you get alot more crappy useless sites at google then you do with yahoo, but you get a truer picture of what is out there.
  4. Favourite meal is a tough one, I am a big fan of food. Lets see I really like pasta, and my fav pasta is Fetucini (sp?) carbonara (sp?), I enjoy a good steak with a baked potato and corn on the cob, I love chili but it can be so hard to find really good chili. I can't really say that I have one favourite meal, and the choice as it was worded would be a tough one to come up with an answer too it would probably be:beverage: Dry Red Wineappetizer: Procsciutto stuffed mushroomssalad: Ceasar Salad (homeade dressing without anchove paste)main: Fetucini CarbonaraDesert: Teramassu (sp?) and brandy ice wine to drink with desert. Now if you altered the question to ask what I would eat for my last meal period ie on death row or knowing that I had a incurable terminal illness that gave me only x days to live the answer would be considerably different:Drink: Bloody mary (that's the one with Clamato isn't it?)Apetizer: Some sort of ShrimpSalad: Ceasar (put those bloody anchovies back in)Main: Seafood platter (the more kinds of seafood the better)Desert: (some of you may have noticed a heavy seafood theme, I think it would have to stop here) Tough decision that, black forest cake maybe, or lemon marange (sp?) pie.The reason the seafood deal would be only if I was about to die is because I have a severe seafood alergy and I have never had 99% of all seafood and I would like to try it at least once.

LOL A P1 166 is slow... I'm a PC tech for a school board and I still end up working on the occasional P1. Annoying as heck trying to tell the teacher that the reason they can't install FlashMX is because the PC they are trying to load it on is 10 years out of date.
  6. Common usage is one of the way language evolves. I would like to know how you came to the conclusion that this is not so. Just stating that you believe the oposite does not make it true. If this were not so you you would have to concede that awful ment only "deserving of awe" and not "bad or unpleasant", or silly means happy or blessed, but not foolish, or how about mouse, the definition of mouse should be furry little rodent, but what about the device used on computers to move the cursor around the screen, is that not a mouse. I could list thousands of words whos meanings have changed over time due to common use, and as these changes have become more widely used they eventurally became part of the english language. Now I will agree that lately people have been a little too free with this, willing to accept slang and bad grammer as common use. I would also agree that dictionary.com is not the best source for definative definitions, Merriam-Webster is a much better source, but I don't agree that it should be discounted all together.

Just tell her you're not really a fan. If she is really your friend this shouldn't offend her. There is no law that states you must like ALL the same things as your friends.
  8. Anyone still have Gmail Invites available? I am hoping to get one.
  9. What can possibly be added to microscopic^earthling's answer to your question. Not much other than my agreement with everything he said. In short a hub (capable of 100Mbps) should give you more than speed for a lan party, unless your talking about 50-100 computers using a high bandwidth program, then you may want to go to a switch. I've set up networks of over 100 PC's with only hubs and had no serious problems with speed, of course they were only using business apps that weren't very bandwidth intense, but it worked. Naturally when I convinced the company to spend the money to upgrade to managed switches instead of hubs they found the speed bonus surprising, but it still worked fine with hubs only.
  10. Well as it was stated that only one* of the codes are for mods and admins only, and what's the need of the note one unless you are an admin or mod anyways? *see I just used the highlight and I'm not in trouble (I hope ). microscopic^earthling: Nice job, I like those BBCodes, very usefull and tres cool.
  11. I am scared of heights. I tend to freeze up when confronted with hights I can sometimes force myself to go ahead and move, but occasionally I need someone else to help me down. That can be truely embarassing.
  12. That does suck, they need to start doing that Pronto
  13. The emmissions from a cell phone are well below what would be considered safe, there are more emmissions from your computer monitor than your cell. I have seen some medical reports suggesting that EM Radiation from cell phones can affect your ability to concentrate, but I am skeptical to say the least. I am willing to believe that the EM Radiation is more harmful to young children than adults, this only makes sense since thier skulls are still developing and the EM fields can reach more areas of the brain at once since a childs head is smaller. This makes sense. The only problem with the theory that these EM Fields are dangerous is there has been no substantial linkage, and there are sources of EM Radiation all around you all day, the cell is just one source. The only thing dangerous about cell phones is the way people use them. I see so many people driving on the freeways while talking on the phone... come on people have you never heard of handsfree set? I have even seen people so wrapped up in there phone conversation that they cross a busy intersection without looking for traffic, saw that cause a pretty bad fender bender once. The only other danger I have ever heard of that is reported to have substantial evidence to support it is that a cell can cause explosions while at a gas station filling up. The theory is that if you are filling up and your phone rings a small spark from the light that lights up when phones ring can cause the gas fumes to ignite. However any fans of mythbusters know this isn't true Click me for details.
  14. I seriously doubt it would need to preload 20GB in advance to be effective, I think you could have it less than 1GB and still be more than enough of a preload to solve any delay that could arise from the switch between layers.
  15. Ok well 42 was one answer I read this topic, but come on are there no Monty Python fans in the house. I can tell you the meaning of life, it is really simple "people aren't wearing enough hats."PS> I ment to add this to the previous post I made, but I hit send too soon doh!!
  16. ROTFLMAO... I only went into this post to see exactly how long it would take someone to come up with that answer.... I must say I was amused to see that it was the first reply.
  17. I found it quite easy to earn enough credits. I don't think it would be any different for you, even if you don't speak english very well. The more you participate around here the better off you are. I personally enjoy the posts on this board so posting enough to earn the credits is a no brainer. Find a topic you like and start reading through and reply, just keep the posts relevant and you'll do just fine.
  18. I've used adsense before and the program is good. It is a true PPC so you really just need to put up the code and generate enough traffic that they get clicked on. As a previous poster stated the ads are mostly targeted and you do have the option of filtering out ads that you don't want shown. It is true that they will refuse you money if you are caught cheating, but it is not the visitors to your site reporting the cheating, but rather the filter system that records clicks, if you are caught clicking on your ads, or if there is alot of suspect activity (ie. 20 clicks from one IP in the space of an hour) they will not pay you and you will probably get your account canceled. Yes you do have to give your Tax info, but so, you should have to give your tax info any time you are making money. The ads that Google adsense generates can be custom altered to fit in with the theme of your site and are auto generated. They look nice and slick and they are quickly becoming an internet standard for ads. They don't intrude, no anoying pop ups, and they are 99% relevant to the particular page they are on. For example a google adsense ad on an article about computer tech will provide links to computer sites. I personally didn't make alot of money off them, but I did make a little, and my site was fairly low volume. Once I get my site up and running it will contain google adsense ads again.
  19. Needs alot of work. The background is WAY too distracting and the navigation leaves alot to be desired. I voted that it sucked... but that was before I saw that you were a beginner, and that you had already planned on changing the overall theme. If I were a little more awake this morning I may have given you a higher score, or abstained from voting and just putting my comments in a post such as this rather than putting a negative vote. Keep working on it, I am sure you will improve.
  20. I remember reading an article similar to this a long time ago, although I don't think it was a terrabyte they were thinking it would be possible to run, though I would imagine it could certainly happen. It would be very cool (sad when your DVD has so much more storage than your HD ).

    First Pc

Lets see the first PC my family owned was a 286, can't remember the processor speed but it had an entire 4 megs of ram an a huge hard drive at 40 Megs. What a joke eh!The first one I personally owned was a 486/66 with 32 Megs ram and a 120 Meg Hard Drive. I had that computer up until about three years ago (though I upgraded it so much it was barely recognizable only the case remained the same.)
  22. Get rid of all links that go to a page that says "Coming soon". It is better to have no links at all then to link to a page that is incomplete. Other than that the site is fairly slick.
  23. Touchy subject. Almost everyone has a very strong opinion on this. Athiests say is no god I know I am right, Monothiests say there is one true god and my god is that god I know I am right, polythiests say there are many gods I know I am right, Panthiests say that the Universe IS god I know I am right. Agnostics are the fence sitters of religeon. They say the existance of (a) god(s) is unknown, or more to the point it is unknowable.I am an agnostic with a leaning towards Panthiesm, or more accurataly Panentheism. Panentheism is the belief that God is a part of everything, or to put it another way everything in the universe is a part of god. The primary difference between Pantheism and Panentheism is that Pantheism believes that the universe is GOD where as Panentheism belives that the universe is a PART of god. Panentheism allows for god to have a will and morality of its own beyond that of the universe. I say I am an agnostic because I acknoledge that there is no way for me to know if this is true or false. I believe that humanity is not ment to know absolute truth, that the existance of god is ment to remain a mystery and we can never know for certain.I do not believe in heven and hell per se, but I do believe that something happens upon our death, I am not quite willing to believe that life just ends, I think there is some sort of after life, but I am alot more willing to believe in multiple lives than I am in a heaven/hell set up.
  24. There are numerous flash tutorials out there, and included with the program itself is some as well. I suggest searching out some of them and seeing if that helps you out.
  25. Fairly clear this is incomplete. Here are some comments none the less:Not bad general design. I am not a fan of that handwritten look font, but it is not too distracting, there are far worse fonts you could have used. Since this is a personal site I would give you far more latitude with things such as fonts, so I think your site works good in its current form.Hard to comment on navigation when there is no where to navigate too, but assuming you have that top tool bar, you are on the right track. What are the two dates at the bottom? It is unclear, and the second date is hard on the eyes, the grey and highlighter yellow (or is it neon yellow/green) is anoying.Nice start though.
